  • Hardened cement pastes of OPC which contains 10 wt% CSA type expansive additives were immersed in aqueous solution of 10 wt% MgS $O_4$.7$H_2O$ and then investigated by compressive strength, XRD. SEM and DSC etc.. According to the results including the hydration products and the microstructure of the hardened paste, the case of CSA type expansive additives[No. 6(C/(equation omitted) : 2.29, A/(equation omitted) : 0.16)] prepared from raw materials increased the resistance to $Mg^{2+}$, S $O_4$$^{2-}$ ion diffusion than that of OPC paste due to the densification by the formation of fine ettringite in the first stage and the hydrates according to $\beta$-C$_2$S hydration in the late period.

  • The purpose of this study is to design and to apply the self-compaction concrete mixture to field, having not only high strength but also compensation for shrinkage without thermal crack under 4 sides outer restraint of the member. In the experimental mix, replacement ratio of limestone Powder, CSA expansive additives, and unit water were selected as parameters, using portland blast-furnace slag cement. And, bleeding test, expansibility test, hydration heat analysis were performed. As a results, when Cement is replaced with 35% limestone Powder, 6% CSA expansive additives at unit water 175kg/$m^3$, demanded performances of fresh and hardened self-compaction concrete are accomplished in the field application.

  • Calcium sulfoalumiante(CSA) was prepared for using natural calcite($CaCO_3$) and industrial by-products and wastes, such as $Al(OH)_3,\;CaSO_4{\cdot}2H_2O$. The mixture of raw materials was fired at 20, 400, 600, $1200^{\circ}C$ for 1h and cooled rapidly in air. The cement replaced by 10 wt% $C_4A_3S$ expansive additives was investigated by the measurement of the hydration products and compressive strength, setting time, expansion at wet curing condition. $C_4A_3S$ was found in x-ray diffraction pattern over the temperature $1200^{\circ}C$. The setting time or the cement pastes added clinkers fired at different temperature was shorter than ordinary portland cement. The compressive strength was higher than the ordinary portland cement about 20~30%. The mainly hydration products were ettringite, and $Ca(OH)_2$. The expansion due to the formation of ettringite during hydration decreased the drying shrinkage of hardened cement rather than the ordinary portland cement.

  • Usually, the expansive additives is used to prevent the occurrence of drying shrinkage in concrete. However it may sometimes be over-added in field due to the insufficient cognition of constructor's, which may cause the serious problems in concrete structures. In this study the experiments are performed to present the expansion properties of concrete by varying the water to binder ratios, unit contents of expansive additives and curing conditions. By the results, the strength showed an increase with the addition of expansion additives from 30kg/㎥ up to 50kg/㎥, and a great decrease by contraries if the larger amount are added. Also the more the expansion additives were used, the more length change occurred in concrete. In view of the curing conditions, the concrete by air cured appeared a little expansion even the unit expansion additives increased, which showed an opposite inclination of that with standard curing. This could be explained by the less occurrence of hydration in air condition which also lead to the little expansion of concrete. Hence the expansion concrete to be cured in water or moisture condition became an especial important thing. concrete using expansive additives showed that high expansion was taken place with the rise of temperature.

  • For the raw materials of 3CaO$\cdot$3Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ $\cdot$CaSO$_{4}$(CSA) clinker manufacturing, the applications of industrial wastes such as waste shell, spent oil-refining catalyst and desulfurized gypsum were examined. The c1inkerbility of the raw mix and the behaviour of formation of clinker minerals were studied and then some hydraulic properties of cements containing the clinker were also investigated. By virtue of the high reactivity of thermally decomposed raw materials, CSA clinkers were obtained at relatively low temperature of 1250$^{\circ}C$ and thus oil-refining catalysts were more desirable than aluminium hydroxide as an aluminous raw material. The expansive cement samples showed somewhat lower flow value than that of OPC, but their compressive strengths were developed earlier and higher than that of OPC due to formation of ettringite in the early hydration time, which indicated the possibility of practical use of low-cost CSA clinker using industrial wastes only.

  • Herein, the properties and self-healing performance of cement mortar incorporating calcium sulfoaluminate(CSA), crystalline admixture(CA), and magnesium oxide(MgO) were investigated. Mortar strength test and water permeability experiments were conducted to analyze self-healing performance of the mortar. Also, variation in crack width were measured via digital optical microscope observation. The hydration products formed in the crack via self-healing were analyzed using x-ray diffraction(XRD), thermogravimetry(TG), and digital optical microscope. The analysis revealed that compressive strength and tensile strength increased as CA substitutional ratio increased. However, in the case of MgO replacement, the compressive strength and tensile strength decreased as the CA substitution ratio increased. The products in the recovered cracks are found to be mostly Ca(OH)2, MgCO3, and CaCO3. CaCO3 was shown to be the main healing product and had a higher portion than Ca(OH)2 and MgCO3 in the recovery products. Moreover, the optimal mix derived via water permeability and crack width results was 8% CSA + 1% CA + 2.5% MgO.
