VALENCE BAND PHOTOEMISSION STUDY OF Fe OVERLAYERS ON Cr

  • Electronic structures of Fe overlayers on Cr(Fe/Cr) films, with an Fe coverage of $1-20{\AA}$, have been investigated by using photoemission spectroscopy. Experimental results are compared with supercell band structure calculations for a system with monolayer (ML) Fe on each side of five layer Cr, Fe(1ML)/Cr(5ML)/Fe(1ML). The extracted Fe 3d partial spectral weight in Fe/Cr exhibits very interesting features for very thin Fe overlayers. First, a sharp emissionnear the Fermi energy is observed, which is expected to originate primarily from hybridization between Fe and Cr 3d electrons at the Fe/Cr interface, and partially from the Fe 3d surface states in the Fe overlayer. Second, other structures are observed at higher binding energies which resemble the Cr 3d valence bands, also suggesting large hybridization between Fe and Cr 3d states at the Fe/Cr interface. These conjectures are confirmed by band structure calculations for Fe(1ML)/Cr(5ML)/Fe(1ML).

Assessment of Malignancy in Brain Tumors by 3T MR Spectroscopy

  • Purpose: To assess clinical proton MR spectroscopy (MRS) as a noninvasive method for evaluating tumor malignancy at 3T high field system. Methods: Using 3T MRI/MRS system, localized water-suppressed single-voxel technique in patients with brain tumors was employed to evaluate spectra with peaks of N-acetyl aspartate (NAA), choline-containing compounds (Cho), creatine/phosphocreatine (Cr) and lactate. On the basis of Cr, these peak areas were quantificated as a relative ratio. Results: The variation of metabolites measurements of the designated region in 10 normal volunteers was less than 10%. Normal ranges of NAA/Cr and Cho/Cr ratios were 1.67$\pm$018 and 1.16:1:0.15, respectively. NAA/Cr ratio of all tumor tissues was significantly lower than that of the normal tissues (P=0.005). Cho/Cr ratio of high-grade gliomas was significantly higher than that of low-grade gliomas (P= 0.001), Except 4 menigiomas, lactate signal was observed in all tumor cases. Conclusions: The present study demonstrated that the neuronal degradation or loss was observed in all tumor tissues. Higher grade of brain tumors was correlated with higher Cho/Cr ratio, indicating a significant dependence of Cho levels on malignancy of gliomas. This results suggest that clinical proton MR spectroscopy could be useful to predict tumor malignancy.   • CR-39 고체비적검출기를 교정하기 위하여 밀봉 순환 방식의 고체비적검출기 교정 장치와 밀리포어필터가 부착된 라돈컵을 제작한 후 기지의 라돈농도에 대한 비적 수를 측정하였다. 그 결과 CR-39 고체비적검출기의 단위 면적당 생성된 비적 수에 대한 시간 적분 라돈 농도는 $0.24{\pm}0.09(pCi/l){\cdot}day/(Tr/cm^2)$ 였다.

표면개질 담체를 이용한 충전탑 반응기에서 유기물 제거 및 미생물 부착 특성 (Characteristics of Organic Compounds Removal and Microbe Attachment in Packed Bed Column Reactor Using Surface-modified Media)

  • This study was accomplished using packed bed column reactors that contain nonsurface-modified polypropylene media and surface-modified media from hydrophobic surface property into hydrophilic property by ion beam irradiation. The objectives of this research was investigated the characteristics of organic compounds removal and microbe attachment from sewage of school cafeteria in these reactors. In 736.8 mg/L of the average inflow $COD_{Cr}$ concentration the reactors with and without surface modification showed 81.8% and 70.3% of average $COD_{Cr}$ removal efficiencies, respectively, which proves the $COD_{Cr}$ removal efficiency of surface-modified media reactor is higher than that of nonsurface-modified media reactor. After 90 days, there were maximum differences between modified system and non-modified system. In that time the maximum removal efficiency of $COD_{Cr}$ was 96.5% in modified system and was 85.2% in non-modified system that showed removal efficiency of surface-modified media system is 11.3% higher than that of nonsurface-modified media system. The average removal efficiency of SS was 80.4% for the surface modified system and 61.6% for the non-modified system under same condition. Also, the reactor of surface-modified media has advantage on microbe attachment and biofilm formation.

  • Cr2O3 doped Pb(Zr0.525 Ti0.475)O3 piezoelectric ceramics were prepared from reagent grade oxide mixture, PbO, ZrO2, TiO2 and Cr2O3. Piezoelectric and aging properties of specimens were measured for various additions of Cr2O3. Generally, it has been known that aging rate decreased with Cr2O3 addition by stabilizing the domain wall. But hysteresis loops showed that the domain destabilization was occurred at high electric field (larger than 10KV/cm). In smaller additions of Cr2O3 (0-0.2mol%), aging rate increased and microcracks were created with increasing poling filed due to increasing internal stress. In larger additions of Cr2O3(0.4∼0.6mol%), aging rate decreased with increasing poling field.

  • 다양한 산업활동에 의하여 발생하는 6가 크롬 (Cr(Ⅵ))은 대표적인 토양 및 지하수 오염물질이다. Cr(Ⅵ)은 3가크롬(Cr(III))로의 환원에 의한 침전반응으로 이동성이 저하된다고 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 고형화/안정화 공정에 환원.분해 반응을 추가한 2가철 기반 분해성 고형화/안정화(Degradative Solidification/Stabilization)공정에 의한 Cr(Ⅵ) 처리 특성을 고찰하였다. 회분식 실험결과 cemen/Fe(II) system내에 Cr(Ⅵ)은 환원반응 뿐만 아니라 cement에 의한 침전에 의해서도 제거됨이 밝혀졌다. Cr(Ⅵ)의 제거속도는 Fe(II)의 반응당량에 비례하는 것으로 보여진 반면, cement/solution ratio에 따른 Cr(Ⅵ) 제거동역학의 차이는 그다지 크지 않았다

Fe-Scale과의 반응에 의한 $Cr_3C_2$계 복합체의 산화손상 (Oxidation of $Cr_3C_2$ Composites with Fe-Scale)

  • In a salb-preheating furnace of steel-making industry, the oxidation/degradation behavior of Cr3C2 ceramic composited dkid button reaction with scale in Fe-oxide system occurs and was thermodynamically examined. The reaction of scale with Cr3C2 skid button produces Cr3C2(s) and C(s), and Co gas is then evolved from the reaction of C(s) with Fe-scale. Cr3C2(s) from oxidation of Cr3C2(s) reacted with Fe-oxide(s) becomes high-melting chromite. The chromite acts as protection layer against further oxidation and improves resistance of the reaction of Cr3C2 skid button with Fe-scale.

  • 아크이온플래이팅 기술과 스퍼터링 기술이 결합된 하이브리드 코팅 시스템을 이용하여 STS 304와 Si 기판에 4성분계 Cr-Al-Mo-N 코팅을 증착하였다. $N_2$/Ar 혼합가스 분위기하에 아크 타겟은 Cr을 사용하였고 스퍼터링 타겟은 Al과 Mo를 사용하였으며 합성된 Cr-Al-Mo-N 코팅은 주로 치환고용된 (Cr, Al, Mo)N으로 구성되었다. 최고 경도값은 Mo 함량이 24.2 at.%일 때 35 GPa을 나타냈으며 마찰계수는 Mo의 함량이 0에서 33.2 at.%로 증가함에 따라 0.9에서 0.48로 감소하였다. 이는 $MoO_3$가 코팅면과 스틸볼 계면에서 고체 윤활제로 작용한 것으로 사료된다. 그러나 Cr-Al-Mo-N 코팅은 MoN의 낮은 내산화온도로 인하여 Cr-Al-N에 비하여 더 낮은 온도에서 산화되었다.

  • The Co-Cr-Ta films are one of the most suitable candidates for perpendicular magnetic recording media. The facing targets sputtering(FTS) system has a advantage of preparing films over a wide range of working gas pressure on plasma-free substrates. In this study, we investigated the effect underlayers on the growths layers of Co-Cr-Ta recording layers. The Co-Cr-Ta/Ti(CoCr) double layers were deposited with sputter gas pressure$(P_N, 0.3-1mTorr)$ by using FTS apparatus at temperature of$40^{\circ}C~-300^{\circ}C$, respectively. Crystallographic and magnetic characteristics were evaluated by x-ray diffractometry(XRD) and vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM), respectively.

  • In order to develop an ultra-thin CoCr perpendicular magnetic recording layer, we prepared CoCrTa/Ti double layer for perpendicular magnetic recording media by new facing targets sputtering system, Crystallgraphics and magnetic characteristics of CoCrTa on underlayer substrate temperature have been investigated. Crystallgraphic and magnetic characteristic of thin films were evaluated by X-ray diffractometry(XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM) and atomic force microscopy(AFM). The coercivity and anisotropy field was increased by increasing under layer substrate temperature, c-axis orientation of CoCrTa magnetic recording layer was improved 8$^{\circ}$ to 5.6$^{\circ}$when under layer substrate temperature was 250[$^{\circ}C$]. Also, through annealing effect for CoCrTa/Ti double layer, it was certain that crystallgraphics and magnetic characteristics was improved.
