  • New approach for the determination of Ag(I) ion was performed by using a carbon paste electrode (CPE) containing N,N'-Diphenyl oxamide (DPO) with anodic stripping voltammetry. The CMEs have been prepared by making carbon paste mixtures containing an appropriate amount of DPO salt coated onto graphite particles to analyze trace metal ions via complexation followed by stripping voltammetry. Various experimental parameters affecting the response, such as pH, deposition time, temperature, and electrode composition, were carefully optimized. Using differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry, the logarithmic linear response range for the Ag(I) ion was 1.0 × $10^{-7}$ - 5.0 × $10^{-9}$ M at the deposition time of 10 min, with the detection limit was 7.0 × $10^{-10}$ M. The detection limit adopted from anodic stripping differential pulse voltammetry was 7.0 × $10^{-10}$ M for silver and the relative standard deviation was ± 3.2% at a 5.0 × $10^{-8}$ M of Ag(I) ion (n = 7). The proposed electrode shows a very good selectivity for Ag(I) in a standard solution containing several metals at optimized conditions.

  • A gold nanoparticles modified carbon paste electrode (GN-CPE) has been used for the determination of atenolol (ATN) in drug formulations by cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and chronocoulometric methods. The results revealed that the modified electrode shows an electrocatalytic activity toward the anodic oxidation of atenolol by a marked enhancement in the current response in buffered solution at pH 10.0. The anodic peak potential shifts by -80.0 mV when compared with the potential using bare carbon paste electrde. A linear analytical curve was observed in the range of $1.96\;{\times}\;10^{-6}$ to $9.09\;{\times}\;10^{-4}\;mol\;L^{-1}$. The detection limit for this method is $7.3\;{\times}\;10^{-8}\;mol\;L^{-1}$. The method was then successfully applied to the determination of atenolol in tablets and human urine. The percent recoveries in urine ranged from 92.0 to 110.0%.

  • Capacitance measurements of the polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) with conjugated polyelectrolyte (CPE) electron transporting layers (ETLs) provide important information of device physics for understanding the function of CPEs as ETLs, together with current density-voltage-luminescence measurements. We investigated the counterion-dependent capacitance behaviors that present a highly negative or positive capacitance at the low frequency, and suggested different carrier injection mechanisms. Capacitance model study reveals that the electron injection mechanism can be described either by the dipole alignment scheme or by electronic charge carrier accumulation at the cathode/ETL/emission layer interfaces.

  • Online simulations are utilized to reduce time and cost in the development and performance optimization of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and electric vehicles (EV) systems. One of the most important factors in an online simulation is the accuracy of the model. In particular, a model of a battery should accurately reflect the properties of an actual battery. However, precise dynamic modeling of high-capacity battery systems, which significantly affects the performance of a PHEV, is difficult because of its nonlinear electrochemical characteristics. In this study, a dynamic model of a high-capacity battery cell for a PHEV is developed through the extraction of the equivalent impedance parameters using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Based on the extracted parameters, a battery cell model is implemented using MATLAB/Simulink, and charging/discharging profiles are executed for comparative verification. Based on the obtained results, the model is optimized for a high-capacity battery cell for a PHEV. The simulation results show good agreement with the experimental results, thereby validating the developed model and verifying its accuracy.

  • Clostridium perfringens causes diarrhea and other diseases in humans and animals. We investigated the prevalence, toxin gene profiles, and antimicrobial resistance of C. perfringens isolated from commercial jeotgal sample. C. perfringens was isolated from 11 of 22 commercial jeotgals. All C. perfringens strains were positive for the alpha toxin gene, but not for the beta, epsilon, iota, CPE or NetB toxin genes; therefore, all strains were identified as type A C. perfringens. However, the beta2 toxin gene was identified in 54.5% of isolates. Disk diffusion susceptibility tests showed that most isolates were resistant to kanamycin (90.9%), nalidixic acid (72.7%), oxacillin (54.5%), erythromycin (27.3%), ciprofloxacin (9.1%) and clindamycin (9.1%). However, all strains were susceptible to 14 other antimicrobial including amoxicillin, ampicillin, and chloramphenicol. The average minimum inhibitory concentrations against C. perfringens of clindamycin, kanamycin, and nalidixic acid were 128.0, 128.0, and 54.0 ㎍/mL, respectively. These results provide new insight into the necessity for sanitation of commercial jeotgal, and provide evidence to help reduce the risk of contamination with antimicrobial-resistant bacteria.

  • Attackers tend to use similar vulnerabilities when finding their next target IT assets. They also continuously search for new attack targets. Therefore, it is essential to find the potential targets of attackers in advance. Our method proposes a novel approach for efficient vulnerable asset management and zero-day response. In this paper, we propose the ability to detect the IT assets that are potentially infected by the recently discovered vulnerability based on clustering and similarity results. As the experiment results, 86% of all collected assets are clustered within the same clustering. In addition, as a result of conducting a similarity calculation experiment by randomly selecting vulnerable assets, assets using the same OS and service were listed.

  • Isolation of PRRSV was attempted from 646 swine sera collected from swine farms. The MARC-145 cell, which is highly permissive to PRRSV, was used for virus isolation, propagation, IFA test, and VN test. Total 36 cytopathic viruses to MARC-145 cells were isolated. The virus isolates were identified as a PRRSV by the IFA test and VN test using the reference sera prepared by experimental infection of reference PRRSV CNV-1 into 30 day-old pig. In addition to serological conformation, ORF5 of genomic RNA of 6 selected cytopathic viruses were amplified by the RT-PCR. The resulting PCR products were examined by electrophoresis in 1.2% agarose gel. An appropriate bands of about 680bp including the flanking sequence of total 80bp were seen on agarose gel.

  • Fecal samples of calf diarrhea were taken on farms in Jeju island, rotavirus was isolated and cytopathic effect (CPE) was determined after infection to MA104 cell. Morphological evaluation on electron microscopy proved it as rotavirus. Also, its infection to MA104 cell was reidentified using a fluorescence antibody method. Genotype of Jeju island bovine rotavirus (JBR) analyzed through PAGE was 4: 2: 3: 2 pattern, which was unique in bovine and that analyzed through general PAGE was somewhat different from NCDV, UK, KK3, A5-3A, 61A, B223 and similar to N stool-5, N culture-5 and Kawatabi (Japan). By titration after plaquing, the level was $1-3\;{\times}\;10^6\;PFU/ml$, which was lower than those of NCDV and UK. Electrophoresis analysis of RNA-RNA hybridization, ELISA, and first and second PCR products of VP7 and VP4 in 1% agarose ($TAE+1{\mu}l$ EtBr) revealed that the rotavirus was a serotype of G6P11.
