1. Author has surveyed the frequency, geographic variation and micro-geographic variation of the elytral pattern types and the elytral edge of the population of lady-beetle, Harmonia axyridis Pallace which was collected in Seoul and the other 6 localities in Korea. 2. The number of specimen collected were 3.051 in which succinea occupied 88.32 % : Axyridis, 1.00% : spectabilis, 6.145 : and Conspicua , 4.545. 3. Of all 84.80% were found to have elytral edge. 4. There was a little difference in compositional proportation of the above four types to population and in the frequency of elytral edge between the population of west seaside and that of inland of Korea. 5. An interesting micro-geographic variation was observed in Dae-Chun, a beach located on west seaside of south Korea. In this locality , the Succinea occupied 45.23% and 27.805 were found to be provided with elytral edge in the specimen collected in pine trees ( Pinus thunbergii Parlatore), while in the specimen collected in burley field, oak, willow etc. 92.00% were Succinea and 90.93% were found to have elytral edge.

Before the construction of Hantangang dam, we surveyed vertebrate fauna along the Hantangang River and collected samples. We collected 248 specimens (1,394 individuals) of 41 fish species from 10 families in four orders, including 17 endemic species and 5 endangered species. In our herpetofauna survey, we collected 47 amphibian samples of 10 species from 5 families in 2 orders, and 19 reptile samples of 5 species from 2 families in 1 order. We observed 25 species of bird (6 orders, 14 families) inclulding collection of 51 bird specimens (10 species from 5 families in 1 order). We collected 91 mammals of 6 species, and identified 7 species from field sign and direct observation from a total of 10 families in 5 orders. This collection and list comprise the final vertebrate faunal survey of the Hantangang region, and will provide basic scientific information for future research on conservation and restoration of the region.
Total suspended particulate matters (TSP) were collected based on a size segregation method by a cascade impactor for 6 consecutive years (form Dec. 1989 to sep. 1994) in the Kyung Hee University-Suwon Campus, and 6 trace metals (Ca, Si, Fe, Pb, Cu, Zn) were determined by an x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy. Total number of samples collected during the study are 118 sets and each set of sample comsists of 9 filters. The levels of TSP and 6 trace metals were then used to examine seasonal and annual variations with respects to their size distributions. For statistical analyses, raw data were initially transformed by both logarithmic and root transformating to approximately normalize them, and then size distribution functions for each trace element were separately developed season-to-season by a regression analysis in order to obtain maximum amount of physical information, Subsequently, each developed model was verified by comparing with supervised data collected on 1994. The result showed that each prediction model was in good agreement except the fall, partly due to lack of the data collected on fall, 1994.
The orchid symbiotic fungi were isolated from the roots of Korean native orchid (Cymbidium goeringii) collected and Chinese orchid (C. sinense) obtained from greenhouses. They were identified as a species of Rhizoctonia, based on the sequences of 18r rDNA, the microscopic observations of mycelia, and the symbiotic relationships with commercial orchids. The isolate collected from Chinese orchids was revealed to be a species of Ceratobasidium endophytica, and to be different from the other isolates at the thickness of the mycelia stained in the root cells of Korean native orchids. The other isolates collected from the Korean native orchids were considered to be a species of Tulsanella repens (anamorphic: Epulorhiza repens) or its related one. The physiologic or microscopic variations were oftenly observed among them, but the tendency of grouping these in the 18s rDNA sequences were observed to be consistent with those of the localities collected. The further taxonomical segregating for Korean symbiotic fungi was not made because the information concerned were limited in this moment, but was recognized as based on the sequences of 18s DNA.
To get abundant germplasm for developing new waxy corn varieties, pericarp thickness was measured and other factors were evaluated with a total of 142 Korean local waxy corn lines collected from various parts of Busan City and Gyungnam Province. The average pericarp thickness of Korean local waxy corn lines collected was $40.61{\mu}m$ and the rate of thin pericarp under $50{\mu}m$ was 70.4%. The pericarp thickness compared by the regions collected showed non significant difference, but which compared by the ear row number per ear showed significant difference $(MS=597.52^*)$. Correlation between pericarp thickness and row numbers per ear was low (-0.93).
This study was conducted to determine feasibility of production system of Perilla frutescens leaf-stem by fertilizing of Sta-Green in pots. Germination rate of Perilla frutescens seeds collected in 2002 was $7\%$, also germination rate of seeds collected in 2003 was $62\%$, while germination rate of seeds collected in 2004 was above $93\%$. Seed germination rate of Perilla frutescens collected in 2004 were higher than seed gathering in 2002. Especially, plant growth and yield of Perilla frutescens grown in pot(The pots was filled with soil mixtures of Sta-Green and Peat Moss mixed with 40:60 ratio.) was the highest. These results indicate that leaf and stem production of Perilla frutescens can be improved by fertilizing of Sta-Green in pots.
Taxonomic studies on two bat species, Nyctalus furvus Imaizumi and Yoshiyuki 1968 belonging to the Vespertilionidae, and Tadarida teniotis (Rafinesque) 1814 belonging to the Molossidae collected at Busan, Korea were carried out. The former, which has been known as an endemic species in Japan, is newly recorded in the Korean fauna and the latter is a very rare species which has not been collected since 1928 (Ognev, 1928) until two females were collected at Busan in this study, although Kishida and Mori (1931) reported the occurrence of the latter with no collecting record. Due to the addition of the former to the South Korean bat fauna, the bat fauna is composed of a total of twenty one species and one subspecies belonging to three families.
Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the differences in airborne TDI concentrations based on the filter collection method and liquid collection method and to compare airborne TDIs concentrations by sampling method change when using the filter collection method in the spray-painting process. Methods: For the sample measurement, the filter collection method(OSHA#42) and liquid collection method(NIOSH#5522) were used; for the sampling method, the full-period single sampling and full-period consecutive sampling methods were used. The samples were collected in spray-painting and drying process locations. Results: In all samples collected from the spray-painting and drying process locations through the filter collection and liquid collection methods, greater amounts of 2,6-TDI than 2,4-TDI were detected. When the TDI collection concentrations based on the sampling methods were compared, the concentrations of 2,4-TDI and 2,6-TDI collected by the consecutive sampling method were higher than the concentrations of 2,4-TDI and 2,6-TDI collected by the single sampling method for both the filter collection method and liquid collection method used in the spray-painting process. These differences were statistically significant. Conclusions: When TDI collection concentrations based on the sample measurement methods were compared, the concentration of 2,4-TDI and 2,6-TDI collected through the liquid collection method were higher than the concentrations of 2,4-TDI and 2,6-TDI collected by the filter collection method, and the differences were statistically significant. In the drying process, no difference was shown in the collection concentrations of 2,4-TDI and 2,6-TDI with the two measurement methods.

A survey to determine the geographical distribution and relative abundance of potential vectors of scrub typhus was conducted from October to November 2006 at 13 localities throughout the Republic of Korea. Apodemus agrarius accounted for 97.6% (80/82) of all rodents, while only 2 Myodes regulus (2/82) were collected. A total of 10,860 chiggers were collected from A. agrarius belonging to 4 genera and 8 species, while only Walehia fragilis (40) was collected from Myodes regulus. Leptotrombidium pallidum (8,137; 74.9%), a vector of scrub typhus, was the predominant species collected from A. agrarius followed by Leptotrombidium scutellare (2,057, 18.9%), Leptotrombidium palpale (279; 2.7%), Leptotrombidium orientale (232; 2.1%), and Leptotrombidium zetum (79; 0.7%), Neotrombicula tamiyai (58; 0.5%), Euschoengastica koreaensis (16; 0.1%), and Cheladonta ikaoensis (2; < 0.1 %). L. pallidum was the predominant chigger collected at collection sites in Gangwon (100%), Gyeonggi (87.2%), Chungnam (100%), Chungbuk (100%), Jeonbuk (73.9%), Jeonnam (77.0%), and Gyeongbuk (66.1%) provinces, whereas L. scutellare was the predominant chigger collected in Gyeongnam province (77.9%) and Jeju Island (62.3%). Data suggest a correlation between chigger population abundance and human cases of scrub typhus in Korea.
