Strip Tension Control Considering the Temperature Change in Multi-Span Systems

  • The mathematical model for tension behaviors of a moving web by Shin (2000) is extended to the tension model considering the thermal strain due to temperature variation in furnace. The extended model includes the terms that take into account the effect of the change of the Young's Modulus, the thermal coefficient, and the thermal strain on the variation of strip tension. Computer simulation study proved that the extended tension model could be used to analyze tension behaviors even when the strip goes through temperature variation. By using the extended tension model, a new tension control method is suggested in this paper. The key factors of suggested tension control method include that the thermal strain of strip could be compensated by using the velocity adjustment of the helper-rollers. The computer simulation was carried out to confirm the performance of the suggested tension control method. Simulation results show that the suggested tension control logic not only overcomes the problem of the traditional tension control logic, but also improves the performance of tension control in a furnace of the CAL (Continuous Annealing Line).

Friction and Wear Properties of Cu and Fe-based P/M Bearing Materials

  • The performances of porous bearings under different operating conditions were experimentally investigated in this study. Material groups studied are 90%Cu + 10%Sn bronze and 1%C + % balance Fe iron-based self-lubricating P/M bearings at constant (85%) density. In the experiments, the variation of the coefficient of friction and wear ratio of those two different group materials for different sliding speeds, loads, and temperatures were investigated. As a result, the variation of the friction coefficient-temperature for both constant load, and constant sliding speed, friction coefficient-average bearing pressure, PV-wear loss and temperature-wear loss curves were plotted and compared with each other for two materials, separately. The test results showed that Cu-based bearings have better friction and wear properties than Fe-based bearings.

남한의 지역간, 계절간 강수량의 특성 (The Variations of Interstational and Interseasonal Rainfall in South Korea)

  • Interstational and interseasonal analyses of the correlation and variability in the seasonal and annual precipitation for 10 basic synoptic stations in South Korea, on the basis of rainfall record of over 40 years, are carried out. It is found that the climatic regions of precipitation could be classified by means of the interstational analysis for the correlations. Corrleation coefficients in interstational relationship of precipitation are lowest in autumn which characterizeds a strong locality while the highest value shows a relatively weak locality in winter. Interseasonal relationship between summer and winter precipitation shows mostly 10 percent significant level with all positive values. The magnitude of the variation coefficients are appeared to be in the order of winter, autumn, spring and summer. It is shown that the highest which is winter ranges between 0.33 0.58, and for the lowest summer, 0.26-0.44, respectively in the areal distribution of the coefficient. The secular changes of the variation coefficient in the recent trend show increases in spring at two station; Seoul and Incheon, in summer at Busan and in autumn at two stations; Busan and Incheon while in winter show devreases at the whole stations. An annual variation seems to show generally a constant trend as whole for all the stations.

세브론 스프링의 강성 변화에 따른 철도차량의 동특성 예측 연구 (Prediction of Dynamic Characteristics of Railway Vehicle by Stiffness Variation of Chevron Rubber Spring)

  • The chevron rubber spring is used for subway vehicle as a primary suspension. Generally, the primary suspension has an influence to the running performance and not so much effect on the ride comfort in railway vehicle. But the stiffness of chevron spring is harder and harder as time goes on because of rubber characteristics. Therefore the dynamic characteristics such as ride comfort and derailment coefficient should be reviewed according to the stiffness variation of chevron rubber spring. In this paper the effect of chevron rubber spring on dynamic characteristics was studied by considering multi-body dynamics of railway vehicle on one straight line and seven curved lines.

플라스틱온실 피복재의 관류열전달계수 변화 (Variation of the Overall Heat Transfer Coefficient of Plastic Greenhouse Covering Material)

  • 본 연구는 국내 상업용 온실 피복재의 관류열전달계수를 산정히는데 필요한 기초자료를 제공하기 위하여 최근 국내에 많이 보급되어 사용되고 있는 플라스틱필름으로 피복된 온실에 대해 관류열량을 측정하고 관류열전달계수의 변화를 분석하였으며 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 온실 내외부 온도차에 따른 관류열전달계수의 변화를 분석한 결과 피복의 층수에 따라 안정된 관류열전달계수를 나타내게 되는 온실 내외부 온도차의 값이 다르게 나타났기 때문에 온실 피복재에 대한 관류열전달계수를 결정할 때에는 피복층수별로 안정된 값을 나타내는 온실 내외부 온도차 범위에서의 관류열전달계수를 채택하여야할 것이다. 온도차이에 따른 관류열전달계수의 변화 경향은 기존의 연구결과와 잘 일치하였으나 안정된 값을 나타내는 온도차이의 구체적인 값은 다르게 나타났기 때문에 이에 대한 추가적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 판단된다. 풍속에 따른 관류열전달계수의 증가율은 연구자에 따라 많은 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었으며, 이중피복온실이나 커튼을 설치한 온실과 같이 보온성을 높인 온실은 일중피복온실에 비해 풍속에 따른 관류열 손실이 더 작다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 관류열전달계수의 기존 연구결과들을 분석한 결과 연구자에 따라 값이 차이가 있었기 때문에 국내 온실의 정확한 난방부하량을 산정하는데 필요한 적절한 관류열전달계수를 제시하기 위해서는 우선 측정을 위한 표준화된 환경기준이 마련될 필요가 있으며, 또한 국내에서 실제로 사용되고 있는 주요 피복재별로 구체적인 관류열전달계수가 구해져야 할 것이다.

주변환경을 고려한 상수관망의 관 마찰손실계수 산정 (Predicting Flow Resistance Coefficients in Water Supply Mains)

  • 보다 효율적인 관로운영에 필수적인 통수능 변화 및 영향인자 산정을 위하여 국내 도송수강관에 대하여 124개의 Hazen Williams및 Darcy-Weisbach 마찰계수를 실측, 분석하였다. 그 결과 국내 도송수강관은 국외의 마찰계수 변화형태와 유사한 경향을 보이며 관경이 클수록 (Diameter>1100mm) 통수능은 관령에 많은 영향을 받으나 관경이 작을수록 관경과 관령에 동시에 영향을 받는다는 사실을 알았다. 또한 Hazen Williams의 C 값은 외국에 비해 약 5-10 정도 작은 것으로 나타났으며, 조도높이의 성장률은 약 0.41 mm/년으로 관의 통수능이 외국에 비해 빨리 저하한다는 사실이 밝혀져 그 원인 파악 및 통수능 산정기준을 재 검토해야 할 것으로 판단되었다. For the most efficient operation of water mains, 124 head losses in domestic water supply steel mains were measured to provide the values of friction coefficient and the variable affecting the deterioration rate of Hazen Williams' and Darcy-Weisbach's friction coefficient. The experimental results show that pipe age is governing the friction coefficient of large mains (Diameter > 1100 mm). On the other hands, pipe age and pipe diameter are affecting the variation of carrying capacity for small mains (Diameter < 1100 mm). The friction coefficient of water mains in foreign countries is higher than that in Korea by about 5 to 10 in Hazen Williams' C value. The growing rate of roughness height of domestic water main is about 0.41 mm/year which is higher than the average of United States of America. So further study is required to find out what causes the serious deterioration rate.

수위-유량관계곡선의 자동구간분할을 위한 변동계수 활용기법의 개선 (Improvement of the Method using the Coefficient of Variation for Automatic Multi-segmentation Method of a Rating Curve)

  • 일반적으로 수위-유량관계 곡선식은 선형성과 등분산성 가정을 기반으로 구축되지만, 측정단면의 형태, 단면 상 하류의 지형요인 등으로 인하여 영향을 받기 때문에 실질적인 수위 및 유량의 관계는 관계식 구축에 이용되는 가정에 위배된다. 이로 인한 오차를 줄이기 위하여 곡선식을 분할하여 이용하고 있으나, 측정단면의 변화를 고려한 관계자의 주관적인 판단이 구간분할의 주요 근거로 이용되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 주관성을 배제하고 관측데이터를 기반으로 객관화된 분할근거를 제시하고자 한다. 곡선식의 구간 분할을 위하여 변동계수를 이용한 기존의 연구를 바탕으로 변동계수가 정규분포를 따르는 것으로 가정하여, 계산된 변동계수가 전 단계에서 계산된 95% 신뢰구간 이내에 존재하지 않는 경우 구간을 분할하였다. 즉, 변동계수를 이용하여 집단 간의 특성을 비교하였으며, 변동계수의 분포를 이용하여 분할을 위한 기준 값을 제시하였다. 방법론의 추정능력 검토를 위하여 가상의 곡선으로부터 생성된 데이터에 제안된 방법론을 적용하였고, 실제유역에 적용성 검토를 위하여 금강에 위치한 무주 및 산계교 수위관측소 지점에 적용하였다. 결과적으로 자동으로 분할된 관계곡선식을 사용하여 추정의 정확도를 높일 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 외삽을 하는 경우 역시 그 정확도를 향상할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 실측값을 활용한 수위-유량관계 곡선식의 구축 시 구간 분할 전 후의 잔차 데이터에 대하여 Shapiro-wilk 정규성 검정을 수행하였으며, 구간분할 후 잔차가 정규성을 갖게 되는 것으로 나타났다.

일정변형률(CRS) 시험에서의 압밀특성 (Consolidation Characteristics at the Constant Rate of Strain(CRS) Test)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the consolidation characteristics of the remolded clay by the oedometer and the constant rate of strain(CRS) consolidation tests. As the rate of strain increases, the settlement rapidly decreased. As the ratio of the sand in the specimen increases, its effect on the rate of strain to the settlement was reduced. As the effective stress increased, the void ratio decreased, while the rate of strain increased, it did not show a clear variation. The reduction of the void ratio was shown to be less than the oedometer test. The coefficient of vertical consolidation with effective stress showed very large variation around preconsolidation stress, but the rate of strain did not provide significant effects. The rate of strain with effective stress gradually decreased at all tests and mixed ratio of sand. The rate of strain at the constant rate of strain tests showed smaller than in the oedometer test. The coefficient of consolidation at the constant rate of strain tests showed much more increase than in the oedometer test. The ratio of the vertical coefficient of consolidation by the odometer and the constant rate of strain tests showed a large difference according to various tests method and mixing ratio. Therefore, it is recommended that careful attention should be paid to designing the soft ground improvement.

Application of probabilistic method to determination of aerodynamic force coefficients on tall buildings

  • Aerodynamic force coefficients are generally prescribed by an ensemble average of ten and/or twenty 10-minute samples. However, this makes it difficult to identify the exact probability distribution and exceedance probability of the prescribed values. In this study, 12,600 10-minute samples on three tall buildings were measured, and the probability distributions were first identified and the aerodynamic force coefficients corresponding to the specific non-exceedance probabilities (cumulative probabilities) of wind load were then evaluated. It was found that the probability distributions of the mean and fluctuating aerodynamic force coefficients followed a normal distribution. The ratios of aerodynamic force coefficients corresponding to the specific non-exceedance probabilities (Cf,Non) to the ensemble average of 12,600 samples (Cf,Ens), which was defined as an adjusting factor (Cf,Non/Cf,Ens), were less than 2%. The effect of coefficient of variation of wind speed on the adjusting factor is larger than that of the annual non-exceedance probability of wind load. The non-exceedance probabilities of the aerodynamic force coefficient is between PC,nonex = 50% and 60% regardless of force components and aspect ratios. The adjusting factors from the Gumbel distribution were larger than those from the normal distribution.

용융아연도금강판에서 어닐링 온도변화에 따른 화합물화가 도금층 기계적 특성 및 마찰계수에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Annealing Temperature on Mechanical Properties and Friction Coefficient of Coating Layer in Galvannealed Sheet Steel)

  • In the modern days, a galvannealed sheet steel (GA) instead of a cold rolled steel sheet has been widely used as an alternative to extend the life of automotive body. Accordingly, the mechanical properties of GA for automobiles were taken into account and studied by examining their variation with annealing temperature. To clarify the effect of surface features on the mechanical and frictional properties of GA, the several tests such as nanoindentation, Vickers hardness and nano scratch test were executed. The frictional characteristics of coating layers of GA were examined through nano scratch test in this study. The friction coefficient of coating layers on the surface was obtained from the nano scratch. The variation of friction coefficient versus velocity and pressure was taken into consideration in this paper. Hardness and elastic modulus of coating layer were increased as increasing annealing temperature.
