Due to ever-growing advancements in computers and relatively easy access to them, many efforts have been made to develop high-fidelity, high-performance, multi-physics tools, which play a crucial role in the design and operation of nuclear reactors. For this purpose in this study, the neutronic Monte Carlo and thermal-hydraulic sub-channel codes entitled MCNP and COBRA-EN, respectively, were applied for external coupling with each other. The coupled code was validated by code-to-code comparison with the internal couplings between MCNP5 and SUBCHANFLOW as well as MCNP6 and CTF. The simulation results of all code systems were in good agreement with each other. Then, as the second problem, the core of the VVER-1000 v446 reactor was simulated by the MCNP4C/COBRA-EN coupled code to measure the capability of the developed code to calculate the neutronic and thermohydraulic parameters of real and industrial cases. The simulation results of VVER-1000 core were compared with FSAR and another numerical solution of this benchmark. The obtained results showed that the ability of the MCNP4C/COBRA-EN code for estimating the neutronic and thermohydraulic parameters was very satisfactory.
A fast neutron time-of-flight spectrometer has been constructed with suitable choice of target thickness and proton bombarding energy in Li$^{7}$ (p, n) Be$^{7}$ nuclear reaction for a continuous keV spectrum of neutrons at 0 degree in 1-nsec pulse from a Van do Graaff and a time-pick-up fast neutron detector assembled with a 5 mm-thick 92% enriched B$^{10}$ slab and four heavily shielded 4"$\times$3" NaI scintillation detectors. Energy resolution of this spectrometer is better than 0.3% at 50 keV and the signal-to-background ratio is also improved. Total cross section measurements of several separated single isotopes have been carried out with this spectrometer and analyzed by Rmaxtrix multi-level computer code. The spin values and resonance parameters of each individual resonances are given.
The mass attenuation coefficient ${\mu}_m$ for eight rock samples having different chemical composition was simulated using the MCNP 5 code in energy range($0.002MeV{\leq}E{\leq}10MeV$). Moreover, the ${\mu}_m$ for the studied rock samples was computed theoretically using XCOM database. The comparison between simulated and computed data for all selected rock samples showed a good agreement with differences varied between 0.01 and 8%. The highest ${\mu}_m$ was found for basalt rocks M2 and M1 and the lowest one is reported for limestone rocks Dike. The simulated values of the ${\mu}_m$ then were used to calculate other important shielding parameters such as the mean free path, effective electron density and effective atomic number. The exposure buildup factor EBF was also computed for the selected rocks with the contribution of G-P fitting parameters and the highest EBF attended by the basalt sample Sill and varied between 1.022 and 744 in the energy range between ($0.015MeV{\leq}E{\leq}15MeV$) but the lowest EBF achieved by basalt sample M2 and varied between 1.017 and 491 in the same energy range.
The Np-237 fission cross-sections up to 20 MeV incident neutron energy are calculated by means of the computer code STAPRE- a statistical model code with consideration of preequilibrium decay. The higher chance fissions up to third compound nucleus are taken into account, and the main input parameters in the treatment of fission under consideration of a double-humped fission barrier are carefully adjusted, so that the current trend of experimental data can be fitted within an apparent deviation of about 10% throughout the entire energy range. Results are presented in the form of point-wise cross-section values, and also in the form of graph to demonstrate the shape agreement.
Background: With the increase in the number of particle accelerator facilities under either operation or construction, the accurate calculation using Monte Carlo codes become more important in the shielding design and radiation safety evaluation of accelerator facilities. Materials and Methods: The calculations with different physics models were applied in both of cases: using only physics model and using the mix and match method of MCNPX code. The issued conditions were the interactions of 600 MeV proton and $290MeV{\cdot}n^{-1}$ oxygen with a carbon target. Both of cross-section libraries, JENDL High Energy File 2007 (JENDL/HE-2007) and LA150, were tested in this calculation. In the case of oxygen ion interactions, the calculation results using LAQGSM physics model and JENDL/HE-2007 library were compared with D. Satoh's experimental data. Other Monte Carlo calculations using PHITS and FLUKA codes were also carried out for further benchmarking study. Results and Discussion: It was clearly found that the physics models, especially intra-nuclear cascade model, gave a great effect to determine proton-induced secondary neutron spectrum in MCNPX code. The variety of physics models related to heavy ion interactions did not make big difference on the secondary particle productions. Conclusion: The variations of secondary neutron spectra and particle transports depending on various physics models in MCNPX code were studied and the result of this study can be used for the shielding design and radiation safety evaluation.
Heavy ions have a high potential for destroying deep tumors that carry the highest dose at the peak of Bragg. The peak caused by a single-energy carbon beam is too narrow, which requires special measures for improvement. Here, carbon-12 (12C) ion with different energies has been used as a source for calculating the dose distribution in the water phantom, soft tissue and bone by the code of Monte Carlobased FLUKA code. By increasing the energy of the initial beam, the amount of absorbed dose at Bragg peak in all three targets decreased, but the trend for this reduction was less severe in bone. While the maximum absorbed dose per bone-mass unit in energy of 200 MeV/u was about 30% less than the maximum absorbed dose per unit mass of water or soft tissue, it was merely 2.4% less than soft tissue in 400 MeV/u. The simulation result showed a good agreement with experimental data at GSI Darmstadt facility of biophysics group by 0.15 cm average accuracy in Bragg peak positioning. From 200 to 400 MeV/u incident energy, the Bragg peak location increased about 18 cm in soft tissue. Correspondingly, the bone and soft tissue revealed a reduction dose ratio by 2.9 and 1.9. Induced neutrons did not contribute more than 1.8% to the total energy deposited in the water phantom. Also during 12C ion bombardment, secondary fragments showed 76% and 24% of primary 200 and 400 MeV/u, respectively, were present at the Bragg-peak position. The combined treatment of carbon ions with neutron or electron beams may be more effective in local dose delivery and also treating malignant tumors.

Recently, by developing many training systems in battle field, the demand for interconnecting and internetworking between Live, Virtual, Constructive training systems has been increased to support efficient data distribution and system control. But, there are lots of problems for them to interwork, because the existing researches only support L-L, V-V, C-C Interoperability. Therefore, we propose L-V-C gateway to provide interoperable simulation environment based on HLA and DDS between them. First, we illustrate FOM Management that parses RPR-FOM XML file to acquire Data information to be shared between them, and generates common data structure and source code used for L-V-C Gateway. L-V-C Gateway created from FOM Management supports Data Conversion and Quality of Service between HLA and DDS. HLA Federate and DDS Domainparticipant in L-V-C Gateway play a role of logical communication channel and relay data from HLA Federation to DDS Domain and vice versa.
