  • The main reason of the earth global warming is $CO_2$ and the regulation about it in the whole world has been reinforced to reduce $CO_2$ emission. It is needed that we should reduce it in the process at the production of concrete generated much of $CO_2$ emission as the primary material of construction industry recognized unfriendly environment industry. Based on a concrete, this study was constructed the system to evaluate $CO_2$ emission generated in the stage of material production, transportation, manufacture and developed the program to reduce and evaluate it efficiently. As a result, most of $CO_2$ emission is generated in the stage of material and it is quantitatively evaluated $CO_2$ emission generated in the stage of materials, transportation and manufacture. Moreover, the evaluation system of the volume of $CO_2$ emission which has the friendly environment technology about reduction of $CO_2$ emission at each stage is suggested for quantitatively evaluation $CO_2$ emission generated in the process at the production of concrete and remicon production company could use it to evaluation $CO_2$ emission.

  • We proposed a method to convert the CO2 emission data of vehicles collected from the chassis dynamometer test from distance unit to energy unit which generally measured from the engine dynamometer tests. In the future, if engine dynamometer tests are limited, it is expected to be applied as an alternative method to calculate CO2 emission based on energy unit through the chassis dynamometer test. At this moment, engine efficiency is required and the test mode average efficiency should be used to improve the accuracy, not the result derived from specific speed and load conditions. Also, this method was applied to foreign data and the results were within 0.2%. However, CO, NOx and THC which have very low emission characteristics except CO2, are limited by the method proposed in this study and need to be considered separatively.

  • Background: Gunsan has been constantly affected by pollutants generated by the Saemangeum development and the construction industry since the completion of the Saemangeum seawall on April 27, 2010. However, there are limitations to its study, such as taking into consideration weather conditions, geographical factors, and foreign inflows. Objectives: In this study, we compared the Existing-CAPSS emissions of Gunsan with Recalculated-CAPSS emissions data to analyze the differences in emissions characteristics by year (2016~2019). Methods: Using Existing data on CAPSS emissions (2016~2019) and Recalculated-CAPSS emissions (2016~2019) for Gunsan, which were Recalculated following the improvement of emissions calculations for 2020, we organized CO, NOX, SOX, PM10, VOCS, and NH3 emissions by substance and investigated the differences and characteristics of the Recalculated emissions by year. Results: For Re-CO and Re-PM10, the emission characteristics of CO were examined as energy industry combustion and PM10 emission characteristics were examined as ship cargo from non-road transportation sources, as ship leisure sources were excluded from non-road transportation source emissions. Conclusions: Comparing the emissions of Existing-CAPSS and Recalculated-CAPSS in Gunsan, the emissions of Recalculated-CAPSS by substance decreased by 39.76% for CO, 9.98% for PM10, 5.53% for VOCS, and 9.24% for NH3, while Re-NOX increased by 2.86% and Re-SOX increased by 1.97%. On the other hand, when comparing the emissions characteristics of Existing-CAPSS and Recalculated-CAPSS in Gunsan, Jeonju, and Iksan, the emission characteristics of Re-NOX, Re-SOX, Re-VOCS and Re-NH3 were similar to those of Ex-NOX, Ex-SOX, Ex-VOCS, and Ex-NH3. As such, Gunsan, Iksan, and Jeonju, showed differences in the comparison of different emission characteristics due to the geographical characteristics of the region (population, area, topography, weather factors) and the characteristics of the industrial complex (metal, petrochemical).

  • The power plants are one of the GHG major source among the sectors of fossil fuel combustion, therefore information of its emission factors is very essential to the establishing control strategies for the greenhouse gas emissions. The $CH_4$ and $N_2O$ concentration from power plants were measured using GC-FID and GC-ECD. The results showed that $CH_4$ emission factor was 0.33 kg/TJ and $N_2O$ emission factor was 0.88 kg/TJ. The $CH_4$ and $N_2O$ emission factors developed in this study were compared with those for IPCC default value and other countries emission factors. The results showed that $CH_4$ emission factor was lower than IPCC default value and Finnish emission factor, but higher than Japanese emission factor. $N_2O$ emission factor was higher Japanese emission factor and IPCC default emission factor however lower than Finnish emission factor. More research is needed on our own emission factors of various energy-consuming facilities in order to stand on a higher position in international negotiations regarding the treaties on climate changes.

  • In this study, phosphorus (P)-doped nickel cobaltite (P-NiCo2O4) and nickel-cobalt layered double hydroxide (P-NiCo-LDH) were synthesized on nickel (Ni) foam as a conductive support using hydrothermal synthesis. The thermal properties, crystal structure, microscopic surface morphology, chemical distribution, electronic state of the constituent elements on the sample surface, and electrical properties of the synthesized P-NiCo2O4 and P-NiCo-LDH samples were analyzed using thermogravimetric analysis-differential scanning calorimetry (TGA-DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The P-NiCo2O4 electrode exhibited a specific capacitance of 1,129 Fg-1 at a current density of 1 Ag-1, while the P-NiCo-LDH electrode displayed a specific capacitance of 1,012 Fg-1 at a current density of 1 Ag-1. When assessing capacity changes for 3,000 cycles, the P-NiCo2O4 electrode exhibited a capacity retention rate of 54%, whereas the P-NiCo-LDH electrode showed a capacity retention rate of 57%.

  • The renewable energy based MG is becoming one of the prominent solutions for greenhouse gas and constructing less power lines. However, how to procure the economics of MG considering the CO2 emission and utility network impact is one of major issues as the proportion of renewable resource increases. This paper proposes the feasibility study scheme of campus MG and shows that the LCOE and CO2 emission can be reduced by utilizing the excess power and introducing hydrogen system and plus DR. For this, the three cases: (a) adding the PV and selling excess power to utility, (b) producing and selling hydrogen using excess power, and (c) participating in plus DR are considered. For each case, not only the topology and component capacity of MG to secure economic feasibility, but also CO2 emission and utility network effects are derived. If an electrolyzer with a capacity of 400 kW participates in plus DR for 3,730hours/year, the economic feasibility is securable if plus DR settlement and hydrogen sale price are more than 7.08¢/kWh and 8.3USD/kg or 6.25¢/kWh and 8.6USD/kg, respectively. For this end, continuous technical development and policy support for hydrogen system and plus DR are required.

  • The current residential process adheres to a traditional method of construction involving wood framing on-site on poured concrete foundations which has been widely applied in North America. A conventional residential construction process can include seventeen distinct stages ranging from stake-out to pre-occupancy inspection. The current practice possesses short comings including high construction material wastes, long scheduling timelines, adverse weather conditions, poor quality, low efficiencies and negative environmental impacts from transportation and equipment use. Over CAN $5 billion dollars was spent in the construction sector during 2007 in Canada. Previous findings in CO2 emissions during the construction process of a conventional dwelling emphasize more than 45 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Hence, in Alberta alone during 2007, almost 50,000 residential units would release more than two million tonnes of CO2. These numbers demonstrate the economical and environmental impact in building construction and its relationship with CO2 emissions. The aim of this paper is to quantify the CO2 emissions from the current residential construction process in order to establish the baseline for CO2 emission reduction opportunities. The quantification collection methodology will be approached by identifying the seventeen various stages of construction and quantifying the contributions of CO2 from specific activities and their impacts of work for each stage. The approach of separating these into separate stages for collection will allow for independent opportunities for analysis from various independent contractors from the entire scope of work. The use of BIM will be implemented to efficiently quantify CO2 emissions. Based on the CO2 quantification baseline, emission reduction opportunities such as an industrialized construction process will be introduced that allows homebuilders to reduce the environmental and economical impact of home construction while enabling them to produce higher quality, more energy efficient homes in a safer and shorter period of time.

  • According to domestic air pollutant emission statistics, a considerable amount of air pollutants is generated by ships. Therefore, various policies are being implemented to limit air pollutant emissions from ships and improve the air quality in ports. In addition, international conventions are carried out for the prevention of marine pollution by ships. However, because few studies and experiments have been conducted on the measurement of air pollutants emitted from actually operating ships, this study presented a method and possibility for evaluating air pollutant emissions from a 9,196GT ship actually operating using a portable emission measurement system (PEMS). A difference in emission occurred depending on the RPM and load, and the emission of NOX was 497-2,060ppm, CO2 was 1.55-6.9%, and CO was 0.002-0.14%. The emission specified in the shop test provided by the engine manufacturer differed from the actual emission measured. This study proved that the maximum emission of each air pollutant generated in the entire sailing section of the ship was included in the PEMS measurement range, and the possibility of using PEMS for ships within 10,000GT was verified.

  • Carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) is known to be a major greenhouse gas partially emitted from waste combustion facilities. According to the greenhouse gas emission inventory in Korea, the quantity of the gas emitted from waste sector in 2005 represents approximately 2.5 percent of all domestic greenhouse gas emission. Currently, the emission rate of greenhouse gas from the waste sector is relatively constant partly because of both the reduced waste disposal in landfills and the increased amounts of waste materials for recycling. However, the greenhouse gas emission rate in waste sectors is anticipated to continually increase, mainly due to increased incineration of solid waste. The objective of this study was to analyze the property of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and estimate $CO_2$ emissions from domestic MSW incineration facilities. The $CO_2$ emission rates obtained from the facilities were surveyed, along with other two methods, including Tier 2a based on 2006 IPCC Guideline default emission factor and Tier 3 based on facility specific value. The $CO_2$ emission rates were calculated by using $CO_2$ concentrations and gas flows measured from the stacks. Other parameters such as waste composition, dry matter content, carbon content, oxidation coefficient of waste were included for the calculation. The $CO_2$ average emission rate by the Tier 2a was 34,545 ton/y, while Tier 3 was 31,066 ton/y. Based on this study, we conclude that Tier 2a was overestimated by 11.2 percent for the $CO_2$ emission observed by Tier 3. Further study is still needed to determine accurate $CO_2$ emission rates from municipal solid waste incineration facilities and other various combustion facilities by obtaining country-specific emission factor, rather than relying on IPCC default emission factor.
