Biometric information indicating measurement items related to human characteristics has attracted great attention as security technology with high reliability since there is no fear of theft or loss. Among these biometric information, fingerprints are mainly used in fields such as identity verification and identification. If there is a problem such as a wound, wrinkle, or moisture that is difficult to authenticate to the fingerprint image when identifying the identity, the fingerprint expert can identify the problem with the fingerprint directly through the preprocessing step, and apply the image processing algorithm appropriate to the problem. Solve the problem. In this case, by implementing artificial intelligence software that distinguishes fingerprint images with cuts and wrinkles on the fingerprint, it is easy to check whether there are cuts or wrinkles, and by selecting an appropriate algorithm, the fingerprint image can be easily improved. In this study, we developed a total of 17,080 fingerprint databases by acquiring all finger prints of 1,010 students from the Royal University of Cambodia, 600 Sokoto open data sets, and 98 Korean students. In order to determine if there are any injuries or wrinkles in the built database, criteria were established, and the data were validated by experts. The training and test datasets consisted of Cambodian data and Sokoto data, and the ratio was set to 8: 2. The data of 98 Korean students were set up as a validation data set. Using the constructed data set, five CNN-based architectures such as Classic CNN, AlexNet, VGG-16, Resnet50, and Yolo v3 were implemented. A study was conducted to find the model that performed best on the readings. Among the five architectures, ResNet50 showed the best performance with 81.51%.

In a wide range of ML applications, the training data contains privacy-sensitive information that should be kept secure. Training the ML systems by privacy-sensitive data makes the ML model inherent to the data. As the structure of the model has been fine-tuned by training data, the model can be abused for accessing the data by the estimation in a reverse process called model inversion attack (MIA). Although, MIA has been applied to shallow neural network models of recognizers in literature and its threat in privacy violation has been approved, in the case of a deep learning (DL) model, its efficiency was under question. It was due to the complexity of a DL model structure, big number of DL model parameters, the huge size of training data, big number of registered users to a DL model and thereof big number of class labels. This research work first analyses the possibility of MIA on a deep learning model of a recognition system, namely a face recognizer. Second, despite the conventional MIA under the white box scenario of having partial access to the users' non-sensitive information in addition to the model structure, the MIA is implemented on a deep face recognition system by just having the model structure and parameters but not any user information. In this aspect, it is under a semi-white box scenario or in other words a gray-box scenario. The experimental results in targeting five registered users of a CNN-based face recognition system approve the possibility of regeneration of users' face images even for a deep model by MIA under a gray box scenario. Although, for some images the evaluation recognition score is low and the generated images are not easily recognizable, but for some other images the score is high and facial features of the targeted identities are observable. The objective and subjective evaluations demonstrate that privacy cyber-attack by MIA on a deep recognition system not only is feasible but also is a serious threat with increasing alert state in the future as there is considerable potential for integration more advanced ML techniques to MIA.
Occupancy sensors installed in buildings and households turn off the light if the space is vacant. Currently PIR(pyroelectric infra-red) motion sensors have been utilized. Recently, the researches using camera sensors have been carried out in order to overcome the demerit of PIR that cannot detect stationary people. The detection of moving and stationary people is a main functionality of the occupancy sensors. In this paper, we propose an on-line human occupancy tracking method using convolutional neural network (CNN) and self-organizing map. It is well known that a large number of training samples are needed to train the model offline. To solve this problem, we use an untrained model and update the model by collecting training samples online directly from the test sequences. Using videos capurted from an overhead camera, experiments have validated that the proposed method effectively tracks human.
Effective interaction between user and device is considered an important ability of IoT devices. For some applications, it is necessary to recognize human facial expressions in real time and make accurate judgments in order to respond to situations correctly. Therefore, many researches on facial image analysis have been preceded in order to construct a more accurate and faster recognition system. In this study, we constructed an automatic recognition system for facial expressions through two steps - a facial recognition step and a classification step. We compared various models with different sets of data with pixel information, landmark coordinates, Euclidean distances among landmark points, and arctangent angles. We found a fast and efficient prediction model with only 30 principal components of face landmark information. We applied several prediction models, that included linear discriminant analysis (LDA), random forests, support vector machine (SVM), and bagging; consequently, an SVM model gives the best result. The LDA model gives the second best prediction accuracy but it can fit and predict data faster than SVM and other methods. Finally, we compared our method to Microsoft Azure Emotion API and Convolution Neural Network (CNN). Our method gives a very competitive result.

By using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) based on semantic segmentation, road surface damage detection has being studied. In order to generate the CNN model, it is essential to collect the input and the corresponding labeled images. Unfortunately, such collecting pairs of the dataset requires a great deal of time and costs. In this paper, we proposed a road surface damage detection technique based on semi-supervised learning using pseudo labels to mitigate such problem. The model is updated by properly mixing labeled and unlabeled datasets, and compares the performance against existing model using only labeled dataset. As a subjective result, it was confirmed that the recall was slightly degraded, but the precision was considerably improved. In addition, the $F_1-score$ was also evaluated as a high value.
Text classification is one of the text mining technologies that classifies a given textual document into its appropriate categories and is used in various fields such as spam email detection, news classification, question answering, emotional analysis, and chat bot. In general, the text classification system utilizes machine learning algorithms, and among a number of algorithms, naïve Bayes and support vector machine, which are suitable for text data, are known to have reasonable performance. Recently, with the development of deep learning technology, several researches on applying deep neural networks such as recurrent neural networks (RNN) and convolutional neural networks (CNN) have been introduced to improve the performance of text classification system. However, the current text classification techniques have not yet reached the perfect level of text classification. This paper focuses on the fact that the text data is expressed as a vector only with the word dimensions, which impairs the semantic information inherent in the text, and proposes a neural network architecture based upon the semantic tensor space model.

With the emergence of convolutional neural network in the field of machine learning, the model for solving image processing problems has seen rapid development. However, the computing resources required are also rising, making it difficult to learn from a typical environment. Attention mechanism is originally proposed to prevent the gradient vanishing problem of the recurrent neural network, but this can also be used in a direction favorable to learning of the convolutional neural network. In this paper, attention mechanism is applied to convolutional neural network, and the excellence of the proposed method is demonstrated through the comparison of learning time and performance difference at this time. The proposed model showed that both learning time and performance were superior in object detection based on YOLO compared to models without attention mechanism, and experimentally demonstrated that learning time could be significantly reduced. In addition, this is expected to increase accessibility to machine learning by end users.
Deep learning in computer vision has made accelerated improvement over a short period but large-scale learning data and computing power are still essential that required time-consuming trial and error tasks are involved to derive an optimal network model. In this study, we propose a similar image classification performance improvement method based on CR (Confusion Rate) that considers only the characteristics of the data itself regardless of network optimization or data reinforcement. The proposed method is a technique that improves the performance of the deep learning model by calculating the CRs for images in a dataset with similar characteristics and reflecting it in the weight of the Loss Function. Also, the CR-based recognition method is advantageous for image identification with high similarity because it enables image recognition in consideration of similarity between classes. As a result of applying the proposed method to the Resnet18 model, it showed a performance improvement of 0.22% in HanDB and 3.38% in Animal-10N. The proposed method is expected to be the basis for artificial intelligence research using noisy labeled data accompanying large-scale learning data.

Sensor data can provide fault diagnosis for equipment. However, the cause analysis for fault results of equipment is not often provided. In this study, we propose an explainable convolutional neural network framework for the sensor-based time series classification model. We used sensor-based time series dataset, acquired from vehicles equipped with sensors, and the Wafer dataset, acquired from manufacturing process. Moreover, we used Cycle Signal dataset, acquired from real world mechanical equipment, and for Data augmentation methods, scaling and jittering were used to train our deep learning models. In addition, our proposed classification models are convolutional neural network based models, FCN, 1D-CNN, and ResNet, to compare evaluations for each model. Our experimental results show that the ResNet provides promising results in the context of time series classification with accuracy and F1 Score reaching 95%, improved by 3% compared to the previous study. Furthermore, we propose XAI methods, Class Activation Map and Layer Visualization, to interpret the experiment result. XAI methods can visualize the time series interval that shows important factors for sensor data classification.

Convolutional neural networks have already been applied to various fields beyond human visual processing capabilities in the image processing area. However, they are exposed to a severe risk of deteriorating model performance due to the appearance of adversarial attacks. In addition, defense technology to respond to adversarial attacks is effective against the attack but is vulnerable to other types of attacks. Therefore, to respond to an adversarial attack, it is necessary to analyze how the performance of the adversarial attack deteriorates through the process inside the convolutional neural network. In this study, the adversarial attack of the Alexnet and VGG11 models was analyzed using the population sparseness index, a measure of neuronal activity in neurophysiology. Through the research, it was observed in each layer that the population sparsity index for adversarial examples showed differences from that of benign examples.
