A Study on the Color Conversion Application of Digital Image in Proof Printer Device (교정 인쇄 장치에서 디지털 이미지의 색변환 적용에 관한 연구)

  • Generally, if RGB image is sent to the printer when we print a digital photograph, the printer will convert RGB to CMYK by the inner built-in drive. Because the difference between color domain of RGB and CMYK will cause that change and difference. The most common way to solve the problem is to convert colors by using ICC profile at RIP software or to adapt automatic color converting from the software of the original printer. So we intended to study show which way is most efficient to the digital output and which color mode device is the best based on the printer's own drive in this paper. we tried to observe and check the extended range of color space such as AdobeRGB as well as CMYK and sRGB. Then we made sure which is the suitable color space. Besides, When we convert RGB mode into CMYK mode by utilizing RIP software and adapt the printer's ICC profile made by our selves, we evaluated the output we get and compared the result with extended RGB image. The results are as follows. In case of RGB mode, the printer requests RGB, and that makes the color space more efficient than CMYK's. Converted to CMYK by utilizing RIP software, the chroma is more linearized than the one produced with its' own driver. Compared with sRGB mode's color gamut, AdobeRGB mode's color gamut and CMYK mode's color, CMYK mode's color gamut is the smallest among 3 of them. CMYK mode's color gamut by utilizing RIP software can be changeable. that can be small and narrow or wide and broad. In other words, the volume of color gamut depends on how CMYK is linearized. The color space of sRGB is more advantageous than the one of AdobeRGB in color-reproduction printed. But in the group $-b^*$, the chroma leaves behind in terms of reproduction, In the group of $-a^*$, the chroma is excellent relatively. Visual evaluation of the image, AdobeRGB image has not many reproduction colors. Specially, according to printers' characteristics, Group B of AdobeRGB and sRGB color space is a long way behind In terms of reproduction but Group Y is excellent relatively.

  • The CMYK is the mathematical color model and the Musell system is an intuitive color model. CMYK color model needs to be proposed in the information age. These two models need to be integrated for convenience of color design. This paper deals with CMRK values, which have appeared in interior design, in association with the Munsell code. Firstly, color samples have been extracted from the cases of interior design. Secondly, the CMRK values of the color sample and the Munsell code have been found. Thirdly, relationship between the CMRK values has been formularized in comparison with the Whelan's color pallette by using the regression method. This paper concludes by proposing the formular which can be used to develope color palette in further research.

  • As various colors are used indoors and such colors influence on the image of indoors, color selection and color combination are a very important issue in inferior design. The purpose of this study is to analyse characteristic of color usage in interior design elements such as the floor, the wall, the ceiling and furnitures. The result of analysis shows the frequently used Munsell code corresponding to the cmyk code. Based on this analysis, this paper classifies largely into two kinds of the color combination type which can be used leer efficient color selection with good harmony The first combination type is divided into five types and the second is classified into three types. This paper argues that combination design principle, as a strong design tool, for color should be further developed for good quality of color design.

Color Characteristics of 3D-Printed TPU Material Applied with Ultra-Violet Curable Digital Printing Process (자외선 경화형 디지털 프린팅을 이용한 3D 프린팅 TPU 소재의 색채 특성)

  • This study aims to confirm the possibility of Ultra-Violet (UV)-printed 3D printing materials using thermal polyurethane (TPU) with CMYK colors by applying an eco-friendly UV digital printing process. A UV-printed 3D printing TPU material was prepared with cycles of UV printing and CMYK colors. Dyeability of the 3D TPU samples with cycles of UV printing and CMYK were analyzed for thickness, weight, surface roughness, reflectance, colorimetry, and K/S values. The thickness and weight of 3D-printed TPU samples with cycles of UV printing are increased with overprints from 1 to 5. The surface roughness of 3D-printed TPU samples with increasing UV prints were decreased, meaning that the surface of TPU samples becomes gradually smoother. The reflectance spectra of CMYK UV-printed TPU samples showed the surface reflectance within each characteristic wavelength of CMYK. The 3D-printed TPU samples, subjected to UV printing twice or more, showed low surface reflectance. After examining the L*a*b* of the 3D-printed TPU samples by the cycles of UV printing, the study found that the more UV got printed more than 2 times, the closer the color to each CMYK.

  • Recently, color proofing in printing industry grow rapidly. If an order decide color from known color information in the case of color reproduction, we can reduce expenses and time. In color proofing the best important point must be closed proofed color to primary color and secondary color. Model-based approaches have the advantages of faster recharacterization and the opportunity of simulating product enhancements such as changes in ink properties and halftoning. In this paper, we transformed the dot area of CMYK to CIELAB color space using color reprodution models. Firstly, we measured spectral reflectance of primary color printed by Matchprint II and the data was used to find tone reproduction curve using regression equation, and than we applied at primary color model, such as Murray-Davies, Yule-Nilsen, and mixed color model, such as Kubelka--Munk, relaxed version of spectral Neugebauser. In such results, the Kubleka-Munk model resulted in the best spectral reconstruction accuracy followed by relaxed version of spectral Neugebauer model, color difference is 2.8401.

  • The CMS(color management system) software was to enable consistent color reproduction from original to reproduction. The CMS was to create RGB monitor and printer characterization profiles and then use the profiles for device independent color transformation. The implemented CMM(color management module) used the CIELAB color space for the profile connection. Various monitor characterization model was evaluated for proper color transformation. To construct output device profile, SLI(sequential linear interpolation) method was used for the color conversion from CMYK device color to device independent CIELAB color space and tetrahedral interpolation method was used for backward transformation. UCR(under color removal) based black generation algorithm was used to construct CIELAB to CMYK LUT(lookup table). When transforming the CIE Lab colour space to CMYK, it was possible to involve the gray revision method regularized in the brightness into colour transformation process and optimize the colour transformation by black generation method based on UCR technique. For soft copy colour proofing, evaluating several monitor specialism methods showed that LUT algorithm was useful. And it was possible to simplify colour gamut mapping by constructing both the look-up table and the colour gamut mapping algorithm to a reference table.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 한국의 전통음식 중의 하나인 비빔밥의 재료들의 색채 범위를 분석하여 메뉴북에 인쇄되어지는 재료별 색채범위를 제시하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 다음과 같은 과정을 통해 진행하였다. 먼저 한국의 전통음식에 근거한 비빔밥 사진과 레시피를 확정하였으며, 요리 전문 사진가를 통해 메뉴북에 가장 보기 좋게 인쇄되어질 수 있는 촬영 기준을 선정하였고, 위의 환경에서 비빔밥 사진을 촬영하였다. 세부적으로 3회 정도의 사진 촬영을 한 후 가장 좋은 상태의 사진을 선정하여 이 때 각 재료들의 색채 값을 측정하였다. 색채 범위 측정을 위해서 Lab 값과 CMYK 값을 적용하였는데, Lab 값은 밝기, 붉은색, 황색을 측정하는 값으로 육안으로 표현되어지는 색이며, CMYK 값은 메뉴 북에 인쇄되어지는 색의 값을 의미한다. 본 연구의 결과, 육안으로 보여지는 색깔과 메뉴북에 인쇄되어지는 값이 다르게 보여진다는 결과를 보였다. 최적 상태 각 재료별 인쇄 값은 다음과 같다. 청포묵은 C23 M5 Y8 K0였고, 호박은 C75 M24 Y100 K9였으며, 고사리 C64 M55 Y76 K55였다. 콩나물은 C38 M24 Y55 K1였고, 당근은 C12 M75 Y87 K2였으며, 표고버섯은 C45 M37 Y78 K11였다, 시금치는 C82 M44 Y100 K48였으며, 도라지는 C25 M5 Y24 K0였고, 계란은 C26 M19 Y100 K0였으며, 마지막으로 쇠고기는 C66 M5 Y72 K0였다.
