Three models with various degree-of-freedom for a manual transmission clutch full-size tester have been developed and the models' reliability and accuracy have been verified using the measured data. A simulation study has also been conducted to understand dynamic behavior of the tester. The model for this simulation study includes clutch disk friction and damper dynamics. The developed model is very accurate in terms of maximum torque exerted on the clutch, slip duration and the vibration response except a slight difference compared to the measured data. In a history graph of the clutch torque, the maximum torque response from simulation is flat but the measured is sunken with a noticeable curvature. This phenomenon is found to be irrelevant to the dynamics of the full-size tester but is originated from the characteristics of the clutch itself. Thus, the full-size tester has been proven to be a reliable tester for clutch's power and torque transmission capability. To obtain a better understanding of clutch's characteristics and relationship between full-size tester and other testing methodologies, future research directions have been suggested.
Torque fluctuation of engine generate gear rattle noise of transmission and many researches have been studied to decrease rattle noise by adjusting clutch damper system. So design optimization of clutch system is very important to decrease rattle noise and need knowing clutch dynamic torque at real vehicle driving condition. This makes it possible to measure clutch dynamic torque by using a small-size magnetic sensor. We install a small-size magnetic sensor on the input shaft of the transmission and measure the relative angular displacement between clutch hub and disc plate. We can obtain the clutch torque correspond to the angular displacement in the clutch torsional characteristics test. The object of this research is to measure clutch dynamic torque on real vehicle condition. Therefore, Clutch dynamic torque is very useful for investigating operating range of clutch according to engine torque and predicting the damping performance of torsional vibration on the powertrain.
In this wort ER(electro-rheological) clutch and MR(magneto-rheological) clutch are devised and their performance characteristics such as response time and controllability are compared. As a first step, field-dependent yield stresses of ER and MR fluids are distilled in shear mode. For reasonable comparison between two clutches, a nondimensional design model is established by choosing same design parameters of gap size and number. Following the manufacturing of two clutches, field-dependent torque level, response time to step input, mechanical Power generation to electric power consumption are experimentally measured and compared. In addition, in order to investigate torque controllability of the clutches a sliding mode controller is formulated and experimentally realized. Control bandwidths of two clutches are identified and tracking control responses for desired torque trajectories are presented.
During the breeding season of 1998, breeding ecology of the Great Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaceus orientalis) was studied at Yangsoo-ri and Yongdam-ri of the Yangpyung-gun, Kyunggi province, Korea. Egg-weight (CV: 6.25) was more variable than either length or breadth, and breadth was the least variable of the measures. Significant variations In overall egg-weight occurred between clutches, and that more of the total variation in egg-weight and shape are due to inter-clutch variation as to intra-clutch variation when the data were pooled. The last egg tends to be larger than the remaining eggs in the clutch of the Great Reed-Warbler, suggest- ing the Great Reed-Warbler may adopt the brood-survival strategy. When method 3 was used, the most common incubation period is 12 days. In the Great Reed-Warbler, the length of the incubation period was related to clutch-size when method 1 (r=0.485, p<0.05) and method 2 (r=0.621, p<0.01) were employed, but not related to egg weight. The average number of days of hatching asynchrony was 2.5, raging 0.5∼2.5. Asynchronous hatching was related to the clutch size (r=0.66, p<0.01). Hatching sequence was closely related to the laying sequence (r=0.93, p<0.001), suggesting Great Reed-Warblers incubate their eggs before clutch completion. The effect of egg weight on hatching asynchrony was found in Great Reed-Warblers (t-test, p<0.01).
Dynamic characteristics of an electro-magnetic clutch transmission system were investigated by using Bondgraph modeling method. Simulation results showed that when the rotor engaged with the armature, the response time of the current, the driver torque, the rotational speed and the relative sliding time between the driver and the driven side decreased, as the gap size between the rotor and the armature decreased and the number of coil turns increased. Also, when the rotor disengaged with the armature, the delay time increased with the decreased gap size and the increased number of coil turns. It was found that the experimental results of the current, the driver torque, the rotational speeds were in good accordance with the theoretical results. The results of this study can be used as basic design materials of the electro-magnetic clutch.
Currently, majority small ship's clutch for power transmission to propeller relies on multi plate hydraulic clutch regardless its size. Most of the small ships do not have a spare equipments of clutch. Furthermore, many ship engineers do not have an ability as well as enough experience to solve this problem related to the hydraulic clutch during the voyage. Therefore, any small problems cause many serious marine accidents. Once the clutch has problem, almost of all ships can not sail by itself anymore and it must be towed by salvage boat, maritime police ships, or fish guidance boat etc. In this case, all the accidents will be categorized as a marine accident and they all need to go through marine accident court inquiries. In this study, an understanding of each crew on hydraulic clutch system has been profoundly measured. Furthermore, the knowledge on an emergency navigation protocol of each crew has been also profoundly checked. Additionally, various surveys on hydraulic clutch classes has been performed and its satisfaction of crews on this topic have been carefully checked based on various feedback from students who took these courses. All of the above data from this study will be used to reduce marine accidents in current marine industry.
This paper presents temperature control of engine cooling system using a controllable magnetorheological (MR) fan clutch. An appropriate size of MR fan clutch is devised and modeled on the basis of Bingham model. Subsequently, an optimization to determine design parameters such as width of housing is undertaken by choosing the reciprocal of the controllable torque as an objective function. Under consideration of spatial limitation, design parameters are optimally determined using finite element analysis. A sliding mode controller is then designed to control the angular velocity of the MR fan clutch using experimentally determined parameters. The designed controller is experimentally implemented and control performances of the MR fan clutch system are evaluated.

We studied variation in clutch size, hatching, fledging and breeding success of the Black-tailed Gull (larus crassirostris) at Hongdo Island, which supported the largest breeding colony of the species, in South Korea in 1997 and 2000 to 2003. Cluck size was recorded in 1,388 nests and breeding success was estimated in 83 nests. Mean clutch size was 1.89 t 0.65. A total of 63.9% of the eggs hatched and 53.5% of the chicks survived until fledged. Breeding success was 34.2%. Causes of breeding failure were eggs missing (14.9%), rotten eggs (15.5%) and predation (2.4%) during the incubation period and chicks missing(35.8%), starvation (7.4%) and pecked chicks (3.2%) during the chick rearing period. In 2002, the main causes of breeding failure were eggs missing (17.2%) and rotten eggs (6.9%) during the incubation period and missing chicks (15.5%), starvation (3.5%) and pecked chicks (6.9%) during the chick rearing period. Most chick mortality occurred within three days after hatching.
