Demosaicing, or color filter array (CFA) interpolation, estimates missing color channels of raw mosaiced images from a CFA to reproduce full-color images. It is an essential process for single-sensor digital cameras with CFAs. In this paper, a new demosaicing method for digital cameras with Bayer-like W-RGB CFAs is proposed. To preserve the edge structure when reproducing full-color images, we propose an edge direction-adaptive method using color difference estimation between different channels, which can be applied to practical digital camera use. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method in terms of CPSNR, FSIM, and S-CIELAB color distance measures, we perform simulations on sets of mosaiced images captured by an actual prototype digital camera with a Bayer-like W-RGB CFA. The simulation results show that the proposed method demosaics better than a conventional one by approximately +22.4% CPSNR, +0.9% FSIM, and +36.7% S-CIELAB distance.

This paper proposes an improved six-color separation reducing the graininess in a middle tone region based on the standard deviation of the lightness and chrominance in S-CIELAB space. Graininess is regarded as visual perception for the fluctuation of the lightness of the light cyan and cyan or light magenta and magenta. In the conventional methods, the granularity is extremely heuristic and inaccurate due to the use of the visual examination score. Accordingly, this paper proposes a method to calculate the objective granularity for six color separation. First, we use the lightness, redness-greenness, and yellowness-blueness of the S-CIELAB space reflecting the spatial-color sensitivity of the human and normalize the sum of the three standard deviations. Finally, we apply the proposed granularity to the six color separation after assigning the granularity to the lookup table and obtain the result reducing the graininess in a middle tone region.
PURPOSE. Accurate color matching of maxillofacial prostheses to skin is important for esthetics. A computerized color matching system specific to human skin has recently been developed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy in color and translucency matching of the computerized color matching system across different skin colors. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The silicone was colored to simulate 28 different skin colors (n=5) to serve as "target skin colors". Using a spectrocolorometer (e-skin), color codes were determined for "replicate skin color" fabrication. CIELAB Delta-E between target skin color-replicate skin color pairs and translucency parameter were calculated. CIELAB Delta-E values were compared with one-way ANOVA and Tukey multiple-comparison. The agreement between $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$ and translucency parameter of target skin colors and replicate skin color were calculated by a two-way mixed average measures intraclass correlation coefficient. Translucency parameter of target skin color- replicate skin color pairs were compared with Paired t-test (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. The mean CIELAB Delta-E value was 3.83 and significant differences were found among colors. The intraclass correlation coefficient showed excellent reliability for $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$ and good reliability for translucency parameter (P<.001). The mean translucency parameter of replicate skin colors was significantly higher than that of translucency parameter. CONCLUSION. The computerized color matching system specific to human skin was found to be reliable in terms of color and translucency between target skin colors and replicate skin color.

This paper proposed device-independent color matching algorithm based on the 3D RGB lookup table (LUT) between mobile camera and mobile LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) to improve the color-fidelity. Proposed algorithm is composed of thee steps, which is device characterization, gamut mapping, 3D RGB-LUT design. First, the characterization of mobile LCD is executed using the sigmoidal function, different from conventional method such as GOG (Gain Offset Gamma) and S-curve modeling, based on the observation of electro-optical transfer function of mobile LCD. Next, mobile camera characterization is conducted by fitting the digital value of GretagColor chart captured under the daylight environment (D65) and tristimulus values (CIELAB) using the polynomial regression. However, the CIELAB values estimated by polynomial regression exceed the maximum boundary of the CIELAB color space. Therefore, these values are corrected by linear compression of the lightness and chroma. Finally, gamut mapping is used to overcome the gamut difference between mobile camera and moible LCD. To implement the real-time processing, 3D RGB-LUT is designed based on the 3D RGB-LUT and its performance is evaluated and compared with conventional method.
In order to color analyze of in Farnsworth Test Panel D-15 using a Protan, Deutan and Tritan test, we introduced the CIE system so that measured the reflectance light spectrum intensity in the 380~780 nm wavelength regions. The color difference of Panel D-15 was depended on the intensity of reflectance ratio in the 400~450 nm, 500~600 nm and more than 650 nm wavelength regions. From the reflectance spectra, we obtained the tristimulus X, Y, Z values, the $L^*a^*b^*$ and $L^*ab$ values of the 3-Dimension CIELAB system in a complement plane and light-darkness axis, the $U^*V^*$ values and the x, y values of chromaticity coordinates.
In commercial digital-cameras, color-filter filters light according to wavelength range of color filter array (CFA) and the filtered intensities contain color information of light. Then, output data of CFA is transformed to final rendered image through demosaicing process. In image processing of digital-camera, the quality of the final rendered image is affected by optical cross talk of CFA, kind of CFA pattern etc. Basically, pattern of CFA plays important role in image quality of final image rendered by digital-camera. Therefore, an evaluation system capable of quantitatively evaluating CFA is needed. This paper proposes a novel evaluation system using existing and proposed image metrics for evaluating CFAs of digital-camera. Proposed CFA evaluation system consist of color difference in CIELAB and S-CIELAB, Structure SImilarity (SSIM), MTF50, moire starting point (MSP), and subjective preference (SP). MSP and SP are newly designed for the proposed evaluation system. Proposed evaluation system is expressed in polar coordinates to analyze the characteristics of CFA objectively and intuitively. Through simulations, we confirmed that proposed CFA evaluation system can objectively assess performance of developed CFAs.

A new fastness formula based on CIEDE2000 color-difference formula is developed by B. Rigg and his coworkers. It is very simple to calculate fastness grade for color change than ISO 105-A05 fastness formula based on CIELAB color-difference formula. Sample pair sets which cover a wide range color space were accumulated from NCS(Natural Color System) color book. For those sample pair sets, visual measurement experiment and instrument measurement experiment of fastness grade were carried out and each performance of ISO 105-A02 fastness formula and newly developed fastness formula was compared through degree of agreement for visual measurement result. Newly developed fastness formula indicated improved performance for measuring fastness grade but current ISO fastness formula for assessing change in color, ISO 105-A05, was confirmed that it's performance is inadequate to measure fastness grade. Then fastness formulae were examined more closely according to particular color spaces and the correlation of hue, lightness and chrom for measuring fastness grade was also considered in this study.
This study examined the degradation behavior of SB(standard berberine) dye and SB dyed silk using HPLC-MS instrument after degradation in the hydrogen peroxide/ultraviolet ray radiation/oxygen system up to 9 days and 40 hours respectively. In the degraded samples, berberine was detected at 5.2 min in the SB dye and 5.3 min in the SB dyed silk with its molecular ion=336 and the UV spectra of quaternary alkaloid. Degradation product 3(m/z=102) newly appeared after 5 day degradation treatment with continued increase till the end of degradation treatment. The amount of berberine in the degraded dye decreased with degradation progression. In the silk dyeings, berberine was detected only up to 21 hour degradation sample. The amount of berberine decreased dramatically during the first 6 hours of degradation treatment. The CIELAB color measurement of the silk dyeings showed dramatic change in the b* value, near zero in the 40 hour degraded silk. CIELAB and Munsell color measurements were in agreement with the HPLC-MS results of the dyed silk in the change of berberine content that the degraded silk became white and lost yellow color.
In an attempt to find a new class of bisazo disperse dyes with better dyeing properties, a series of novel bisazo dyestuffs based on 4-arylhydrazono-3-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)-1-phenyl-2-pyrazolin-5-ones $\mathbf{3a-f}$ were prepared by diazocoupling of p-nitrophenyl diazonium chloride with 4-arylhydrazono-3-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)-1-phenyl-2-pyrazolin-5-ones $\mathbf{2a-f}$. Compounds $\mathbf{3a-f}$ were subsequently reacted with acetic anhydride in the presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid afford the corresponding O-acetyl derivatives $\mathbf{4a-f}$. The latter products as well as spectral data indicated that compounds $\mathbf{3a-f}$ exist predominantly in the azo-hydrazone tautomeric form (H) as the ZE-configuration. Additionally, two series of the synthesized dyes $\mathbf{3a-f}$ and $\mathbf{4a-f}$ were applied as disperse dyes for dyeing polyester fabrics and their fastness properties were evaluated. Also the position of color in CIELAB coordinates ($L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$, $H^*$, $C^*$*) was assessed.

The fancy veneer flooring board is high value-added wooden material. The classification of the flooring boards by the observation with the naked eye causes color difference among fancy veneers. It turned out that this inaccuracy of color difference among fancy veneers increased in case of the identification by metamerism or the flooring construction. Therefore, this study was performed to classify fancy veneers produced from 3 species such as Tilia sp., Betula sp., and Acer sp. which were identified with the naked eye by Light and Dark grade, by using CIELAB. In addition, each specie's threshold on CIERGB was investigated and a range of hue, saturation and intensity by an application of HSI color model were studied. Intensity of the HIS color model could be the best value to be used when color, saturation and intensity of the HSI color model were used for the classification of the flooring board's color. In addition, it seemed that color range of all three criteria lied between $45^{\circ}$ and $55^{\circ}$. In the case of identification by threshold of RGB element, considering only specific color element value is unlikely to lead to accurate classification of fancy veneers of flooring board.
