The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of the blade shape on the impeller performance, for design optimizing of the high airflow impeller. First, the quantity, angle, and length of blades, which are considered to have a large influence on the impeller performance, were selected as design variables. Then, 27 cases of impeller shapes were selected according to the design of experiment (DOE). To predict the conduct of the blower based on the selected impeller shape, flow analysis was performed using the immersed solid method of ANSYS CFX. In the CFD results, the highest airflow was expected in the impeller having a combination of 50 EA, $6^{\circ}$ and 5 mm. Finally, a blower with the original impeller shape and the optimized impeller shape was fabricated using a 3D printer, and the analysis tendency and experimental tendency were verified through experiments.

In this study, pin-fin arrays, which are widely used for cooling turbine blades, were studied. The vortex generator in pin-fin arrays is located in front of the circular tube. The cross-section of the vortex generator is NACA-9410. The purpose of this study is to analyze heat transfer performance and flow characteristics of pin-fin arrays. The position of vortex generator is changed with the vertical flow direction on the bottom wall. Pin-fin arrays were calculated with 6000, 10000 and 15000 Reynolds number. The commercial program ANSYS v18.0 CFX and the turbulence model $k-{\omega}$ SST were used. As a result, the heat transfer performance increased up to 5.8% and pressure loss increased less than 1%.
Low-rise structures are generally immersed within the roughness layer of the atmospheric boundary layer flows and represent the largest class of the structures for which wind loads for design are being obtained from the wind standards codes of distinct nations. For low-rise buildings, wind loads are one of the decisive loads when designing a roof. For the case of cylindrical roof structures, the information related to wind pressure coefficient is limited to a single span only. In contrast, for multi-span roofs, the information is not available. In this research, the numerical simulation has been done using ANSYS CFX to determine wind pressure distribution on the roof of low-rise cylindrical structures arranged in rectangular plan with variable spacing in accordance with building width (B=0.2 m) i.e., zero, 0.5B, B, 1.5B and 2B subjected to different wind incidence angles varying from 0° to 90° having the interval of 15°. The wind pressure (P) and pressure coefficients (Cpe) are varying with respect to wind incidence angle and variable spacing. The results of present numerical investigation or wind induced pressure are presented in the form of pressure contours generated by Ansys CFD Post for isolated as well as variable spacing model of cylindrical roofs. It was noted that the effect of wind shielding was reducing on the roofs by increasing spacing between the buildings. The variation pf Coefficient of wind pressure (Cpe) for all the roofs have been presented individually in the form of graphs with respect to angle of attacks of wind (AoA) and variable spacing. The critical outcomes of the present study will be so much beneficial to structural design engineers during the analysis and designing of low-rise buildings with cylindrical roofs in an isolated as well as group formation.

The globe valve is a linear motion valve that is designed primarily to stop, start, and regulate flow. The disk of a globe valve can be removed totally from the flow path or it can completely close the flow path. In this study, numerical analysis using ANSYS-CFX was initially performed to predict the flow coefficient and build a prototype model of a globe valve. The flow coefficient is the volume of water at $15.6^{\circ}C$ that will flow per minute through a valve with a pressure drop of 1 psi across the valve. In other words, it is an important factor for determining the size of the valve. From the analysis results, the fluid flux of water and flow coefficient of the valve were extracted. From the numerical results, a prototype of ultra-fine precision control valve, which can regulate the fluid flow of range 0 ~ 0.1 gal per min, was developed. The experimental results were compared with the numerical results using the flow coefficient ($C_v$) graph. From the comparative results, the flow coefficient ($C_v$) error percentage between the numerical and experimental results was very low, which is acceptable, proving that the proposed prototype model is convincing. In addition, it is possible to predict the flow coefficient using only numerical analysis.

The increase in impermeable pavement from recent urbanization has resulted in an increase in surface runoff. The surface runoff has also increased the burden of the existing drainage system. This drainage system has structural limitations in that the catchment area is reduced by the waste particles transported with the surface runoff. In addition, the efficiency of the drainage system is decreased. To overcome these limitations, a new type of drainage system with a drainage layer was developed and applied. In this study, various volume porosity and permeability of the lower drainage layer were simulated using ANSYS CFX, which is a three dimensional computational fluid dynamics program. The results showed that the outlet velocity of the 35% volume porosity was faster than that of the 20% and 50% cases, and there was no relationship between the volume porosity and drainage performance. The permeability of the drainage layer can be determined from the particle size of the material, and a simulation of five conditions showed that 2 mm sand grains are most suitable for workability and usability. This study suggests appropriate values of the volume porosity and particle size of the drainage layer. This consideration can be advantageous for reducing and preventing flood damage.

The objective of this study is to investigate the flow characteristics of polluted air behavior in rectangular tunnels using a PIV system and a commercial CFD program. The PIV experiments are simulated by using the olive oil as the tracer particles in scaled rectangular tunnels. Each model has one of four different outlet vents, each dimensionless L/H ratio of which is 0, 0.375, 0.75 and 1.125, respectively as the locations of each outlet are away from the vertical centerline through the inlet. A commercial CFD program, ANSYS CFX, was used to examine the velocity fields and the pressure distributions in numerical simulations. The kinematic viscosity of the air flow of $1.51{\times}10^{-5}m^2/s$ and the flow velocity of 0.3 m/s at the inlet are given under the same conditions in order to analyze the polluted air flow characteristics experimentally and computationally. This study is considered to examine the effect of the outlet locations in the naturally ventilated tunnel models.
In this study, the effect of flow settling means on the performance of fan tester were numerically investigated by using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The airflow rate was calculated from the pressure differential across a flow nozzle in the measuring plane and the flow settling means were generally installed in the chamber of the fan tester to provide proper airflow patterns ahead of the measuring plane. The predicted nozzle differential pressures with uniform inlet velocities were compared with the values of the ANSI/AMCA 210-99 to verify the performance of the commercial CFD code CFX 5.6. The influence of flow settling means on the measurement of airflow rate in a fan tester were discussed with various porosities and inlet jet velocities. The results obtained show that the proper band of porosities exist to meet the AMCA standard in a specified inlet jet velocity.

The present work reports on a numerical simulation of a compartment fire. The fire was modeled using a simplified approach, where combustion is simulated as a volumetric heat release. Computations were performed with the commercial code CFX 5.6. Radiation was modeled with a differential approximation (P1 model), while turbulence effects upon the mean gas flow were dealt with a SST turbulence model. Simulations were carried out using a transient approach, starting at the onset of ignition. Results are provided for the temperature field time evolution, thus allowing a direct comparison with the analytical and experimental data. The high spatial resolution available for the results proved to be of great utility for a more detailed analysis of the thermal impact on the steel structure.

In this study, numerical analysis of solid-liquid two-phase flow was conducted as a preliminary step to analyze the flow characteristics of drilling fluid using the commercial CFD code, ANSYS CFX 14.5. The homogeneous model and separated flow model were used to simulate solid-liquid two-phase flow phenomena. In the separated flow model, Gidaspow's drag force model was applied with the kinetic theory model was applied for solid particles. The validity of the numerical model used in this study was verified based on the published experimental results. Numerical analysis was carried out for volume fractions of 0.1 to 0.5 and velocities of 1 to 5 m/s in a horizontal tube with a diameter of 54.9 mm and a length of 3 m. The Pressure drop and volume fraction distribution of solid particles were confirmed. The pressure drop was predicted using the homogeneous model and separated flow model within the MAE of 17.04 % and 8.98 %, respectively. A high volume fraction was observed in the lower part of the tube, and the volume fraction decreased toward the upper part. As velocity increased, variations in volume fraction distribution at varying heights were decreased, and the numerical results predicted these flow characteristics well.

Cool-down performance after soaking is important because it affects passenger's thermal comfort. The cooling capacity of HVAC system determines initial cool down performance in most cases, the performance is also affected by location, and shape of panel vent, indoor seat arrangement. Therefore, optimal indoor designs are required in developing a new car. In this paper, initial cool down performance is predicted by CFD(computational fluid dynamics) analysis. Experimental time-averaging temperature data are used as inlet boundary condition. For more reliable analysis, real vehicle model and human FE model are used in grid generation procedure. Thermal and aerodynamic characteristics on re-circulation cool vent mode are investigated using CFX 12.0. Thermal comfort represented by PMV(predicted mean vote) is evaluated using acquired numerical data. Temperature and velocity fields show that flow in passenger's compartment after soaking is considerably unstable at the view point of thermodynamics. Volume-averaged temperature is decreased exponentially during overall cool down process. However, temperature monitored at different 16 spots in CFX-Solver shows local variation in head, chest, knee, foot. The cooling speed at the head and chest nearby panel vent are relatively faster than at the knee and foot. Horizontal temperature contour shows asymmetric distribution because of the location of exhaust vent. By evaluating the passenger's thermal comfort, slowest cooling region is found at the driver's seat.
