  • A silicon oxide cleaning characteristic and its mechanism were studied in RF plasma cleaning system with various gases such as $CHF_3$, $CF_4$, Argon, oxygen and mixing gas. The experimental parameters - working pressure (100 mTorr), RF power (300 W, 500 W), electrode distance (5cm, 8cm, 11.5cm), cleaning time (90, 180 seconds), gas flow (50 sccm) were fixed to compare cleaning efficiency by gas types. The results were as follows. First, the argon plasma is retaining only physical sputtering effect and etch rate was low. Second, the oxygen plasma showed good cleaning efficiency in electrode distace of 5cm, 300W, 180secs, but surface roughness increased. Third, $CF_4$ Plasma could get the best cleaning efficiency. Fourth, $CHF_3$ plasma could know that addition gas that can lower the CFx/F ratio need. We could not get good cleaning efficiency in case of added argon to $CHF_3$. But, we could get good cleaning efficiency in case added oxygen.

  • In this study, to examine the effect of a hole size change(smaller hole diameter) in the outer region of the lower-support-structure-bottom plate(LSSBP) on the reactor core-inlet flow-distribution, simulations were conducted with the commercial CFD software, ANSYS CFX R.15. The predicted results were compared with those of the original LSSBP. Through these comparisons, it was concluded that a more uniform distribution of the mass flow rate at the core-inlet plane could be obtained by reducing the hole size in the outer region of the LSSBP. Therefore, from the nuclear regulatory perspective, design change of the hole pattern in the outer region of the LSSBP may be desirable in terms of improving both the mechanical integrity of the fuel assembly and the core thermal margin.

  • In a double-passage cascade apparatus, only two blades are installed in order to increase the accuracy of experimental result by applying bigger blade than the size of multi-blades on the same apparatus. However, this causes difficulties to make correct periodic condition. In this study, sidewalls are designed to meet periodic condition without removing the operating fluid or adjusting tail boards. Surface Mach number on the blade surface is applied to a responsible variable, and 12 design variables which are related with sidewall profile control are selected. A gradient-based optimization is adopted for wall design and CFX-11 is used for the internal flow computation. The computed result shows that it could obtain the same flow structure by modifying only the sidewalls of the double-passage cascade apparatus.

  • This paper performed a numerical study of an air-liquid ejector. An ejector is a fluid-transportation device that spouts high-pressure fluid from driving pipes using the kinetic energy of the spouted fluid and increases the pressure through the exchange of momentum with the surrounding gases of the lower pressure. The air-liquid ejector was investigated through steady three-dimensional multiphase CFD analysis using commercial software ANSYS-CFX 14.0. Water as the primary fluid is driven through the driving nozzle and air is ejected as the second gas instead of ozone in real applications. The difference in performance according to the shape of the diffuser of the ejector was examined. The results provide deep insight into the influence of various factors on the performance of the air-liquid ejector. The proposed numerical model will be very helpful for further design optimization of the air-liquid ejectors.

  • Electric fans, which consist of axial blades, are operated by the induction motor. In this paper, the objective of this study is the performance improvement of the base model fan using the design optimization. In order to aerodynamic analysis, computational simulations are performed using commercial tool ANSYS-CFX ver. 14.5. And k-${\omega}$ SST turbulence model is used for the CFD analysis. The design variables are set up as sweep and lean angles. Volumetric flow rate and torque of the fan blades are fixed to objective function. The optimized model is shown the increment of the volumetric flow rate and the reduction of the torque compared with the base model. The experimental procedure is followed KS C 9301. CFD results and experimental results are fairly well matched.

  • Subcooled boiling under low pressure was numerically investigated using computational fluid dynamics(CFD). The wall boiling model was used for simulating the subcooled boiling; this model requires sub-models consisting of bubble departure diameter, nucleation site density and bubble departure frequency. The CFD code CFX provides the default models based on experimental data. Because these models are mostly developed under high pressure conditions, it would not be predicted well in low pressure conditions. Thus in this study, CFD validation for subcooled boiling under low pressure was analyzed. The numerical results were compared with experimental data from published paper. Simulations were performed with mass flux ranging from 250 to $750kg/m^2s$, heat flux ranging from 0.37 to $0.77MW/m^2$ and constant outlet pressure of 0.11 MPa. Employing the empirical correlation developed under low pressures could increase the accuracy of numerical analysis.

  • The role of a main starting air valve is to supply compressed air to the diesel engine for starting the stopped diesel engine of a ship and cut off the air during normal operation. In this study, the main starting air valve with 80mm size was designed based on the developed valve with 50mm size. The concept design of the 80A main starting air valve was completed by using CATIA. Then, fluid analysis was performed to investigate the flow characteristics such as pressure and velocity distribution. Sequentially, structural analysis using FSI was performed. In this study, ANSYS CFX and ANSYS Workbench are utilized. The heavy weight of the body can deteriorate the strength performance of neighbor elements, leading to undesirable effect on flow characteristics. Thus, in this research, a lightweight design of the body was suggested satisfying strength requirement. The weight of the suggested design was reduced by 7kg, and the strength satisfied its requirement.

  • This study performs a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of the inner flow of a multihole injector nozzle by using ANSYS CFX 13.0. Based on the obtained results, a design of experiment (DOE) was performed and applied to investigate the effects of injector nozzle design parameters on cavitation. To analyze the design sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio (S/N ratio), the hole diameter, hole length, hole angle, and K-factor of the nozzle hole were selected as design parameters, and the effect of these parameters was investigated at 16 experimental points. Consequently, it was found that the effect of the K-factor on the cavitation and inner flow of the injector nozzle is the greatest. Thus, the selection of a suitable K-factor is important in nozzle design considering cavitation flow.

  • In this paper, effects of inlet shape on the performance of a submerged cargo pump were numerically studied using a commercial CFD code ANSYS-CFX. The inlet shape, especially the gap between pump and suction well, is an important parameter in a point of view of performances of submerged cargo pump due to its effects on the residual and also hydraulic performance of the pump, respectively. To investigate the optimized gap, the overall performance degradations were calculated with the gap. In addition to that, the flow field through the gap was investigated to explain the effect of velocity non-uniformity on the performance of the pump impeller.

  • Development of the low NOx heating boiler was strongly asked due to severe air pollution and the large number of boilers in korea. Compactness of the commercial boiler was also important because of low manufacturing cost and easy installation. In this study. newly developed compact low NOx burner, using turbulent gas diffusion combustion with multi-staged air supplies and multiple fuel nozzles, was investigated. Comparison study of the new burner was performed between experimental results and computational analysis. Commercial computational fluid dynamic(CFD) program named CFX-5.6 was used for numerical analysis of the low NOx burner inside the test combustor. Comparisons of experiment data and numerical result were performed under various equivalence ratio and fuel flow rate.
