  • CFD analysis is an analytical technique that applies a computer to the design and development of products across the entire industry for heat or fluid flow. This technology is used to shorten the development period and reduce costs through computerized simulation. However, the software used for CFD analysis is now required to use expensive foreign software. The Opensource CFD analysis software used in the proposed system has reliability of commercial CFD analysis software and has various user groups. However, for users who have expert knowledge, Opensource CFD software which supports only text interface environment, We have developed an environment that enables the construction of a CFD analysis environment for beginners as well as professionals. In addition, the proposed system supports the pre-processing (design and meshing) environment for CFD analysis and the environment for post-processing (result analysis & visualization), enabling the integrated CFD analysis process in one platform.

  • Ball bearings are a major component of mechanical parts for transmitting rotation. Compared to tapered roller bearings, ball bearings offer less rolling resistance, which leads to reduced heat generation during operation. Because of these characteristics, ball bearings are widely used in electric vehicles and machine tools. The design of ball bearing cages has recently emerged as a major issue in ball bearing design. Cage design requires pre-verification of performance using theoretical or experimental formula or computational fluid dynamics (CFD). However, CFD analysis is time-consuming, making it difficult to apply in case studies for design decisions and is mainly used in performance prediction following design confirmation. To use CFD in the early stages of design, main-taining analytical accuracy while reducing the time required for analysis are necessary. Accordingly, this study proposes a laminar steady-state segment CFD technique to solve the problem of long CFD analytical times and to enable the use of CFD analysis in the early stages of design. To verify the reliability of the CFD analysis, a bearing drag torque test is performed, and the results are compared with the analytical results. The proposed laminar steady-state segment CFD technique is expected to be useful for case studies in bearing design, including cage design.

  • 본 논문에서는 충남대학교에서 설계하고 있는 인력비행기인 Volante의 주익 에어포일을 선정하기 위하여 교육 및 연구를 위한 CFD 해석 프로그램인 EDISON_CFD를 이용하여 후보군으로 있는 에어포일들의 경향성을 확인하고 성능이 좋은 에어포일을 선정하였다. 또한 CFD 프로그램으로 상용화된 Fluent와 비교하여 EDISON_CFD의 신뢰성을 확인하였다.

CFD analysis result is expect to find the most suitable place of the heat pipe making thermal equilibrium so that it can be used design data.

  • EFD-CFD Comparison Workshop was proposed based on the drag prediction workshop and high lift prediction workshop of AIAA. This workshop is organized to escalate the levels of wind tunnel test and computational fluid dynamics and to escalate the level of domestic aerodynamic technology through the collaboration of both areas. For three benchmark cases of which wind tunnel test results are available, comparison workshops have been held since 2015.

설계 최적화를 위한 CFD와 CAD의 접합(Integration)

  • 이 글에서는 CFD의 효율적인 적용 및 사용을 통하여 제품의 설계와 생산 공정의 최적화가 어떻게 구현될 수 있으며 CFD를 이용한 최적화 과정 에서 걸림돌이 되는 것들로는 어떤 요소들이 있는 지 관하여 다루고자 한다. CFD와 같은 CAE tool 을 이용한 설계 과정의 최적화는 최신의 기술을 장착하고 있는 상업용 CFD 소프트웨어들에 의하여 가능하며 이들 코드들에 관한 특성들도 이 글 에셔 취급하고자 한다. 잘 알려진 바와 같이 제품 의 초기 개념 설계 단계에서부터 계획 및 상세설계에 이르기까지 각 단계에서 최적의 조건을 구하 기 위해서는 주어진 구속조건에서 변수들에 관한 반복적인 시뮬레이션이 수행되어야 한다. 이러한 과정에서 각각의 조건에 관한 시뮬레이션 과정이 시간이 비교적 많이 소요되는 수동적인 방법으로 이루어질 경우 최적화는 불가능하다. 즉 각 설계 변수의 최적화 조건을 구하기 위하여 CAE과정에 서 자동화(automation)은 필수적일 것이다. 전산 유체 역학(computational fluid dynamics)은 지난 30여 년 동안 다양한 유체유통 및 열전달 분야에서 사용되어져 오고 있는 시뮬레이션 기술이 다. 산업분야에서 CFD에 대한 요구가 증대됨에 따라 20여 년 전부터 상업용 CFD 코드가 등장하기 시작하였으며 근래 들어서는 약 80여 종류의 상업용 CFD 코드가 자동차, 전자, 화공, 건설, 조 선, 제강과 같은 여러가지 종류의 산업분야에서 이용되어 오고 있다 하지만 상업용 CFD 코드가 고가인 이유 때문에 비교적 풍부한 예산이 확보된 대기업 및 국책 연구소 중심으로 이에 관한 사용 자 층은 매우 제한적이었다. 아울러 사용상의 난 점 때문에 CFD를 전공한 전문가 집단 위주로 사 용되어 오고 있다. 이런 측면에서 볼 때 설계 분야 에 종사하는 엔지니어들이 CFD를 이용하여 설계를 하는 데는 상당한 괴리감이 존재하게 된다. 전 통적으로 CFD와 같은 해석은 설계에 대한 타당서 검증의 목적으로 설계 사이클에서 맨 마지막에 수행되어져 왔기 때문에 CFD가 설계에 직접적인 도움을 주지 못하고 보조의 역할밖에 하지 못하는 수몽척인 도구로 여겨져 왔다. 이려한 설계 경향 은 CFD가 설계 과정에서 요구하는 시간 내에 시뮬레이션이 불가능하기 때문에 나타난 현상이다 상기에서 언급된 문제점인 시abf레이션의 시간 단 축은 설계 부서 에서 사용되는 CAD 도구와 CFD와 같은 CAE tool을 적절하게 접목함으로써 (integration) 가능할 것이다. 이후에서는 CFD의 시뮬레이션 과정을 자동화하기 위하여 고려되어 야 할 요소들에는 어떤 것들이 있는지에 관하여 알아보고자 한다.

ENVI-met model is very popular, efficient, and freely downloadable CFD model. Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) are well known state of art technology and dataset proving a reliable accuracy for CFD. We use LiDAR data as a input source for CFD input producing process and algorithm development and evaluation. CFD initial input data generation process and results derived from am development and set is very useful and efficient for rapid CFD input data producing and maklomore reliable CFD Model forec st for atmospheric and climatic analysis for planning and design engineering industry.

The Comparison of the In-Situ Thermal Response Tests and CFD Analysis of Vertical-type Geothermal Heat Exchanger (수직형 지중 열교환기의 현장 열응답 시험과 CFD 해석 비교)

  • In this study, a series of CFD analysis was performed in order to predict the leaving water temperature and the slope of in-situ thermal response tests of the vertical-type geothermal heat exchangers. The geothermal heat exchanger and surrounding ground formation were modeled using GAMBIT and simulation was used by utilizing FLUENT which is commercial CFD code. Comparing with the results of CFD and in-situ thermal response tests, the results of CFD was presented good agreement with $0.5^{\circ}C$ difference of Leaving Water Temperature and with 1.6% difference of the Slope.

  • Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) is being developed to do maritime survey and maritime surveillance at Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean engineering (KRISO). The goal is that USV should be operated at the maximum speed of 45 knots and it should be operated at sea state 4. Therefore the planing hull of USV should be excellent in resistance performance and manoeuvring performance. It is needed to check its performance using Experimental Fluid Dynamics (EFD), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or analytic method before designing the hull. In this study, resistance performance was analyzed by EFD and CFD. EFD with heave and pitch was performed at high speed towing system in Seoul National University. CFD was performed using SNUFOAM based on openFOAM with dynamic mesh to calculate running attitudes. The results of CFD were compared with EFD results. The results of CFD were resistance, running attitudes and wave height. The flow distribution and pressure distribution were also analyzed. The results of numerical resistance was under estimated than EFD. Even though the results of CFD have a slight limitation, it can be successfully used to estimate the resistance performance of planing hull. In addition it can be used as a supplement for EFD results.

A Study on the Modeling Method of Missile Fin Aerodynamic Coefficient using Wind Tunnel Test and CFD (풍동시험과 CFD 해석 결과를 반영한 유도무기 조종날개 공력계수 모델링 기법 연구)

  • A study on aerodynamic modeling was performed to predict the hinge moments required for initial design of missile. Fin aerodynamic coefficients were modeled using the equivalent angle of attack method based on the wind tunnel test. In addition, CFD analysis was performed to calculate the dynamic pressure around the body and improve the accuracy of aerodynamic coefficients. The aerodynamic coefficient accuracy was verified by comparisons of the coefficient acquired from wind tunnel test and prediction of flow conditions, not involved in the model built-up. It was confirmed that fin aerodynamic coefficients can be predicted effectively by using the proposed method.
