  • The residual fracture toughness of post-fire normal-strength concrete subjected up to $600^{\circ}C$ is considered by the wedge splitting test. The initial fracture toughness $K_I^{ini}$ and the critical fracture toughness $K_I^{un}$ could be calculated experimentally. Their difference is donated as the cohesive fracture toughness $K_I^c$ which is caused by the distribution of cohesive stress on the fracture process zone. A comparative study on determining the residual fracture toughness associated with three bi-linear functions of the cohesive stress distribution, i.e. Peterson's softening curve, CEB-FIP Model 1990 softening curve and Xu's softening curve, using an analytical method is presented. It shows that different softening curves have no significant influence on the fracture toughness. Meanwhile, comparisons between the experimental and the analytical calculated critical fracture toughness values further prove the validation of the double-K fracture model to the post-fire concrete specimens.

  • This study was performed to examine the effect of time dependent properties on RC columns in subway structures subjected to high filled soil layer. By using Program TCC which is a modified version of CPF for the present purpose, a typical column in subway structure was analyzed. Four different model equations for predicted time dependent concrete properties(ACI, CEB-FIP, Bazant & Panula and Korea Bridge Specification) was employed, and the results were compared. It was found that a relevant creep coefficient is recommended to be 1.0 for designing columns in subway structure, and the sol filling work would be performed at least 3 months later after the concrete casting in order to ensure durability by reducing the negative effect of concrete time dependent properties.

  • In designing the prestressed concrete box-bridge, the dead load, prestressing force, creep and shrinkage of concrete are the main factors which influence the camber and deflection of segmental concrete structure under construction. Among these factors the creep and shrinkage are the functions of the time-dependent property which, therefore, must be considered with time. The prediction model for estimating creep and shrinkage of concrete has been suggested by ACI, CEB/FIP, JSCE and KSCE design code and EMM, AEMM, RCM, IDM and SSM has been suggested for analytical method in consideration of the time-dependent characteristics. In this study, the creep test was carried out for four curing ages of concrete which were applied to the prestressed concrete structure at a construction site, and the results of test were compared to the values of creep prediction by the design code. Also the creep test of step-wise incremental stresses were performed and were compared to analytical methods.

  • The aim of this study is to present the elastic modulus equation that suits to a domestic situation to coincide the improved mechanical properties of high-strength concrete. For this purpose, this study collected the laboratory data more than 400 connected with the modulus of elasticity that performed in this country and also compared with the existing equations compressive strength of investigated concrete ranged from 400 to 1, 400kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. As a result, it could confirm that the existing equations which were proposed by the ACI 363R. CEB-FIP, NS 3473, and New-RC have a tendency to the overestimation in general.

  • Recently, many design codes including ACI 318-02 recommend the use of a strut-tie model approach for design of structural concrete with D-region(s). However, there are several unclear problems and shortcomings in the codes' strut-tie model approach. A grid strut-tie model approach was proposed to resolve these problems. In this study, the ultimate strengths of 17 deep beams, the most familiar type of D-regions, were evaluated for the validity check of the grid strut-tie model approach. The analytical results obtained by the approach are compared with those by the strut-tie model approach presented by CEB-FIP, AASHTO LRFD, and ACI 318-02.

  • The Current design procedures of ACI 318-02 and CEB-FIP for the exterior beam-column joints do not provide engineers with a clear understanding of the physical behavior of the beam-column joints. In this paper, the failure strengths of the exterior beam-column joint specimens tested to failure were evaluated using the approach implementing 3-dimensional strut-tie models, design criteria of ACI 318-02, ACI-ASCE committee 352 and Park and paulay, and softened strut-tie model approach. The analysis results obtained from the 3-dimensional strut-tie models were compared with those obtained from the other approaches, and the validity of the approach implementing 3-dimensional strut-tie models were examined.

  • This study reports on the structural characteristics of slab-column connections using an ultra-high-strength-fiber-reinforced concrete from new and retrospective data. The parameters investigated were the ' puddling ' of ultra-high-strength-fiber-reinforced concrete and the use of high-strength concrete in the slab. The effects of these parameters on the punching shear capacity, negative moment cracking, and stiffness of the two-way slab specimens are investigated. Furthermore, the ACI Code (2002), the CSA Standard (1994), the BS Standard (1985) and the CEB-FIP Code (1990) predictions are compared to the experimental results obtained from some slab-column connections tested in this experiment and those tested by other investigators. The beneficial effects of the ultra-high-strength-fiber-reinforced concrete puddling and of the use of high-strength concrete are demonstrated. It is also concluded that the punching shear strength of slab-column connections is a function of the flexural reinforcement ratio.

  • This paper aims to study the local bond stress-slip behavior of reinforcing bars embedded in lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC). The experimental variables of the local bond stress-slip tests include concrete strength (20, 40 and 60 MPa), deformed steel bar size (#4, #6 and #8) and coarse aggregate (normal weight aggregate, reservoir sludge lightweight aggregate and waterworks sludge lightweight aggregate). The test results show that the ultimate bond strength increased with the increase of concrete compressive strength. Moreover, the larger the rib height to the diameter ratio ($h/d_b$) of the deformed steel bars is, the greater the ultimate bond stress is. In addition, the suggestion value of the CEB-FIP Model Code to the LWAC specimen's ultimate bond stress is more conservative than that of the normal weight concrete.

  • In designing PSC box girder bridge, the dead load, prestressing force, creep and shrinkage of concrete are the main factors which influence the camber and deflection of segmental concrete structure under construction. Among these factors the creep and shrinkage are the functions of the time-dependent property which, therefore, must considered with time. The prediction model for estimating creep and shrinkage of concrete has been suggested by ACI, CEB/FIP, JSCE and KSCE design code. In this study the creep and shrinkage test were carried out for four curing ages of concrete which was applied to the pretressed concrete box-girder bridge at a construction site, and the results of test were compared to the values of prediction by the design code. Shrinkage test shows that the test results are similar to KSCE-96 and JSCE-96 but very higher than other prediction model and creep test results are generally similar to ACI-209 and DSCE-96 but lower than other prediction models in contrast to shrinkage test.
