  • This paper aimed to study the local bond-slip behavior between ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) and a reinforcing bar after exposure to high temperatures. A series of pull-out tests were carried out on cubic specimens of size 150×150×150 mm with deformed steel bar embedded for a fixed length of three times the diameter of the tested deformed bar. The experimental results of the bond stress-slip relationship were compared with the Euro-International Concrete Committee (CEB-Comite Euro-International du Beton)-International Federation for Prestressing (FIP-Federation Internationale de la Precontrainte) Model Code and with prediction models found in the literature. In addition, based on the test results, an empirical model of the bond stress-slip relationship was proposed. The evaluation and comparison results showed that the modified CEB-FIP Model code 2010 proposed by Aslani and Samali for the local bond stress-slip relationship for UHPC after exposure to high temperatures was more conservative. In contrast, for both room temperature and after exposure to high temperatures, the modified CEB-FIP Model Code 2010 local bond stress-slip model for UHPC proposed in this study was able to predict the test results with reasonable accuracy.

  • This paper presents experimental study on long-term behavior of RC and SRC columns. Shrinkage and creep tests were performed for two types of concrete used in manufacturing RC and SRC column specimens. Also, long-term tests under sustained load were carried out for RC and SRC column specimens. Shrinkage functions and creep coefficients to optimally fit the corresponding data were obtained from regression analysis and the regression results, ACI and CEB- FIP 90 model were applied to analyse long-term behvavior of RC and SRC column specimens. Creep coefficients calculated from test data were lower than those predicted by ACI and CEB-FIP 90 models. Long-term analysis results for RC and SRC column specimens using the regression results were relatively more accurate than those obtained using the existing models.

  • Compressive strength of self-compacting concrete with waste concrete powder(SCCWCP) linearly decreased as the containing ratio of WCP increas. When granulated blast furnace slag(SG) was contained for improving the rheological properties of SCCWCP, compressive strength of concrete with $15\%$ SG and $15\%$ WCP was increased in comparison with that of concrete with $30\%$ WCP. Splitting tensile strength of SCCWCP higher increased than that of CEB-FIP at same compressive strength. Relationship between compressive strength and elastic modulus of SCCWCP indicated a similar function with CEB-FIP fuction.

  • Creep deformation of concrete is often responsible for excessive deflection at loads which can compromise the performance of elements within structures. Hence, the prediction of the magnitude and rate of creep strain is an important requirement of the design process and management of structures. Although laboratory tests may be undertaken to determine the deformation properties of concrete, these are time-consuming, often expensive and generally not a practical option. Therefore, relatively simple empirically based national design code models are relied upon to predict the magnitude of creep strain. This paper reviews the accuracy of creep predictions yielded by eight commonly used international "code type" models, all of which do not consider the same material parameters and yield a range of predicted strains, when compared with actual strains measured on a range of concretes in seventeen different investigations. The models assessed are the: SABS 0100 (1992), BS 8110 (1985), ACI 209 (1992), AS 3600 (1998), CEB-FIP (1970, 1978 and 1990) and the RILEM Model B3 (1995). The RILEM Model B3 (1995) and CEB-FIP (1978) were found to be the most and least accurate, respectively.

  • This study presents the testing of 15 hwangtoh-based cementless concrete mixes to explore the significance and limitations of the development of eco-friendly concrete without carbon dioxide emissions while maintaining various beneficial effects. Hwangtoh, which is a kind of kaolin, was incorporated with inorganic materials, such as calcium hydroxide, to produce a cement-less binder. The main variables investigated were the water-to-binder ratio and fine aggregate-to-total aggregate ratio to ascertain the reliable mixing design of hwangtoh-based cementless concrete. The variation of slump with elapsed time was recorded in fresh concrete specimens. Mechanical properties of hardened concrete were also measured: including compressive strength gain, splitting tensile strength, moduli of rupture and elasticity, stress-strain relationship, and bond resistance. In addition, mechanical properties of hwangtoh-based cement-less concrete were compared with those of ordinary portland cement (OPC) concrete and predictions obtained from the design equations specified in ACI 318-05 and CEB-FIP for OPC concrete, wherever possible. Test results show that the mechanical properties of hwangtoh-based concrete were significantly influenced by the water-to-binder ratio and to less extend by fine aggregate-to-total aggregate ratio. The moduli of rupture and elasticity of hwangtoh-based concrete were generally lower than those of OPC concrete. In addition, the stress-strain and bond stress-slip relationships measured from hwangtoh-based concrete showed little agreement with the design model specified in CEB-FIP. However, the measured moduli of rupture and elasticity, and bond strength were higher than those given in ACI 318-05 and CEB-FIP. Overall, the test results suggest that the hwangtoh-based concrete shows highly effective performance and great potential as an environmental-friendly building material.

  • Numerical analysis is carried out to identify the appropriateness of the design codes that is available for the tensile design of fastening system at Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in this study. This study is intended for the cast-in-place anchor that is widely used for the fastening of equipment in Korean NPPs. The microplane model and the elastic-perfectly plastic model are employed for the quasi-brittle material like concrete and for the ductile material like anchor bolt as constitutive model for numerical analysis and smeared crack model is employed to simulate the clack and damage phenomena. The developed numerical model is verified on a basis of the various test data of cast-in-place anchor. The appropriateness of both ACI 349 Code and CEB-FIP Code is evaluated for the tensile design of cast-in-place anchor and it is proved that both design codes give a conservative results for real tensile capacity of cast-in-place anchor.

  • In this paper, the prediction method of the differential column shortening for cracked reinforced concrete tall buildings due to the construction sequence is presented. The cracked sectional properties from the strain and curvature of the sectional centroid is directly used. And the stiffness matrix of concrete elements considering the axial strain-curvature interaction effect is adopted. The creep and shrinkage properties used in the predictions were calculated in accordance with ACI 209, CEB-FIP 1990, and B3 model code. In order to demonstrate the validity of this algorithm, the prediction by the proposed method are compared with both the results of the in-situ test and the results by other simplified method. The proposed method is in good agreement with experimental results, and better than the simplified method.

  • This study is to measure the creep coefficient by 3 days, 7 days and 28 days in the age when loading for the quality assessment of $350kgf/cm^2$ in the high-strength concrete. And it is to analyze the behavior of creep coefficient by applying the experimental data though the compressive strength test, the elastic modulus test and the dry shrinkage test to the ACI-209, AASHTO-94 and CEB/FIP-90, the prediction mode, and the basis of concrete structural design. Also it is to analyze the behavior of short-term creep coefficient during 91 days in the age when loading through the experiment by using the regression analysis, the statistical theory. As applying it to the long-term behavior during 365 days and comparing with the creep prediction mode and examining it, the result from the analysis of the quality of the concrete is as follows. As the result of comparison and analysis about the ACI-209, AASHTO-94 and CEB/FIP-90, the prediction mode, and the basis of concrete structural design, the normal Portland cement class 1 shows the approximate value with the prediction of GEE/PIP-90 and the basis of concrete structural design, but in case of the prediction of ACI-209 and AASHTO-94, there would be worry of underestimation in the application.
