The CDMA Mobile System (CMS) has been developed by Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and field-tested for commercial service deployment in Korea. The project was started in 1989 and completed in 1995 with the CMS commercial test. During the course of development, there had been active technical cooperation with Qualcomm, Inc. and Korean manufacturers. The CMS adopted the basic CDMA concepts conforming to Korean CDMA system which was derived form IS-95. The CMS functions are allocated to subsystems by considering efficiency and expandability. The CMS consists of mobile stations and the infrastructure which is composed of base stations, mobile exchanges and home location register/authentication center. The commercial field tests performed both in Taejon and Seoul have indicated that the CMS capacity is 10 to 15 times larger than that of AMPS. This paper overviews the development history, system characteristics, architecture and test results.

본 논문에서는 Slotted CDMA시스템에서 패킷 데이터 서비스를 위한 전송확률 제어 기법과MAC프로토콜을 제안한다. Slotted CDMA시스템에서 다원접속간섭은 패킷 전송 실패의 주요 요인이 된다. 따라서 최적의 시스템 처리율을 얻기 위하여 동시에 전송되는 패킷의 수를 일정하게 유지시킬 필요가 있다. 제안한 프로토콜에서는 기지국이 망의 부하에 따라 단말기의 패킷 전송확률을 계산하여 방송하고, 단말기에서는 이를 기반으로 전송을 시도한다 성능 분석의 결과, 제안한 기법은 각 단말기들이 독립적으로 전송 확률을 계산하여 접속 제어를 하는 기법에 비하여 우수한 처리율을 얻을 수 있었으며, 부하에 관계없이 각 단말기에게 공평한 패킷 전송을 보장함을 알 수 있었다.

MC-CDMA 기법은 다중경로 페이딩에 robust하고 간단한 단일 탭 등화기를 사용하여 고속의 데이타를 전송할 수 있기 때문에 이동 멀티미디어 통신과 같은 고속 데이타 무선 통신에 적합한 접속방식으로 알려 있다. 본 논문에서는 페이딩 채널 환경하에서 기지국에 안테나 어래이를 갖는 MC-CDMA 셀룰라 시스템의 성능을 분석한다. 안테나 어래이를 갖는 MC-CDMA 방식을 사용하여 셀 내의 다른 사용자 간섭을 크게 감소시키고 순방향 링크 및 역방향 링크에서 시스템의 용량을 크게 증가시킬 수 있음을 보인다. 모의실험을 통하여 제안된 방식을 사용할 경우 사용자 용량 증가를 확인한다.

Since the introduction of competition in the telecommunication market due to the growth of the interconnection between heterogeneous networks, particularly fixed and mobile networks, the interconnection charge based on traffic-sensitive (TS) and non-traffic-sensitive (NTS) costs has become more important. Although there have been many studies of the public switched telephone network (PSTN), previous studies of TS and NTS costs in mobile networks are very few. In this paper, as a pilot study, we propose three criteria and a procedure for the classification of TS and NTS costs based on mobile systems. The three criteria are the following: function type, investment requirement, and main exhaust driver. Moreover, for a CDMA mobile system, strongly TS, strongly NTS, and mixed components are classified by the proposed criteria and procedure. The proposed criteria, procedure, and classification can provide a systematic and useful guideline to decide the scope of mobile facilities and to determine the terminating cost on mobile networks from fixed networks.

In this paper, we present three kinds of development support systems (test and evaluation systems), which are developed to fulfill the specific needs in accordance with the CDMA Mobile System (CMS) developmental phases. The support systems consist of the mobile switch traffic simulator (MSTS), the mobile call simulator (MCS), and the CDMA mobile system analysis tools (CSAT). The MSTS is used for the simulation of the base station in the stage of development of the mobile exchange, and the MCS is used for the overall performance test of the CMS. The CSAT is used for the CMS performance evaluation. These systems have been used for the CMS development successfully.

CDMA 시스템에서 셀의 용량은 그 셀에서 사용 가능한 채널의 수로 정의되고, 이는 셀이 받는 간섭의 양에 의해 제한된다. 새로운 이동국이 홈 셀 에서 호가 수락되었을 경우, 이는 홈 또는 인접 셀 에 간섭을 준다 따라서, 본 논문에서는 홈 셀은 새로운 호를 수락할 만큼 용량이 충분하고, 새로운 이동국이 홈 셀에 수락되었을 때 이동국의 송신 전력을 예측 계산한 후, 이를 이용하여 인접 셀들이 받을 간섭의 양을 예측하여 인접 셀 들에서 QoS(Quality of Service)가 보장될 경우 호를 수락하는 이동국의 송신 전력 예측에 기반을 둔 호 수락 방식을 제안한다. 모의 실험 결과 제안한 방식은 인접 셀 에서 기존 호의 회손 확률(outage probability)이 현저히 감소함을 보여 준다.

A CDMA-based cellular mobile telecommunication system has already been developed and is expected to provide more stable mobile communication services for much more users than traditional analog mobile systems. As a natural course of development, the CDMA mobile system is expected to provide ISDN services in the near future. In this paper, we analyze several traffic control policies for the voice-data integrated traffic in the cellular CDMA system. We first select four admission control policies which take differences in traffic and QOS characteristics between voice and data into account, and then develop modelling and analysis techniques, which can be used directly to analyze the chosen control policies. Our approach is based on so-called threshold model. Numerical computation results obtained under the typical traffic situation are also given. Through these computation results we could tentatively conclude that the cutoff priority policy, which can provide the priority for handoff voice cells while effectively utilizing unused channels, seems to be most effective among the four policies.

현재 cdma2000 In 및 1xEV-DO 이동통신망을 통해 패킷 데이터 서비스가 제공되고 있으며, 보다 높은 대역폭의 서비스에 대한 사용자 욕구를 만족시키기 위해 휴대 인터넷 서비스에 대한 표준화가 추진되고 있다. 그런데, 휴대 인터넷은 고속의 데이터 서비스는 가능하나, 서비스 커버리지가 상대적으로 작다. 따라서, cdma2000 이동통신망과 효율적으로 연동하여 서비스를 제공한다면, 사용자는 서비스 지역에 따라 최적의 서비스를 받을 수 있음은 물론, 이동시 연속적이고 끊김 없는 데이터 서비스를 이용할 수 있고, 사업자는 망 구축비용 및 운용비용 절감을 얻을 수 있다. 이를 위해, 본 논문에서는 기존의 cdma2000 이동통신망과 휴대 인터넷의 효율적인 연동망 구조, 각 노드의 동작, 노드간 프로토콜 구조 및 인터페이스 등 세부적인 연동 방안을 제시한다. 본 논문에서 제안된 연동 방안은 밀결합 연동 구조로 인해 통합된 사용자 인증 및 과금을 수행하기 용이하며, 끊김없는 연속적인 서비스를 제공할 수 있다. 또한, 기존 cdma2000 이동통신망의 수정 또는 추가 구현 없이 개발 가능하며, cdma2000 및 휴대 인터넷 서비스를 동시에 제공하는 이중 모드 단말의 구현시에도 복잡도가 최소화된다. cdma2000 이동통신망과 휴대 인터넷간의 핸드오프 성능 모델에 기반한 실험을 수행한 결과 본 논문에서 제안한 방안은 패킷 손실 측면에서 매우 우수함이 검증된다.

본 논문에서는 위성 하향 링크에서 강우 감쇄와 음영 페이딩에 대한 적응형 전송을 위한 MC-CDMA(multicarrier CDMA) 방식을 제시하고, Ka 대역 이동위성채널에서 페이딩, 강우 감쇄, 재전송 방식에 따른 적응형 MC-CDMA 하향링크의 성능을 비교 분석하였다. 제시된 하향 링크는 광대역 MC-CDMA 전송을 통해 수십 Mbit/s 처리율과 채널 환경에 따라 약 1 bit/s/Hz에서 4.7 bit/s/Hz의 주파수 효율을 제공할 수 있다.

본 논문에서는 DIA.METER AAA(Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) 하부 구조를 가지고 Mobile IP 액세스 기법을 사용하는 cdma2000 패킷 데이터 서비스에서 MN(mobile node)와 AAAH(home AAA server)간의 상호 인증과 Mobile IP 개체들간에 안전한 세션키 분배를 위한 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 프로토콜은 DIAMETER AAA 하부 구조론 가정하며 DIAMETER AAA의 비효율성을 개선하고, 인증과 키 분배 프로토콜의 시큐리티 요구 사항들을 모두 만족한다.
