Diagnostic Value of Computed Tomography in Crohn's Disease Patients Presenting with Acute Severe Lower Gastrointestinal Bleeding

  • Objective: To investigate the diagnostic yield of contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) in Crohn's disease (CD) patients presenting with acute severe lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB), and the role of CT in predicting the risk of rebleeding. Materials and Methods: A consecutive series of 110 CD patients presenting with acute severe LGIB between 2005 and 2016 were analyzed. Among them, 86 patients who had undergone contrast-enhanced CT constituted the study cohort. The diagnostic yield of CT for detecting contrast extravasation was obtained for the entire cohort and compared between different CT techniques. In a subgroup of 62 patients who had undergone CT enterography (CTE) and showed a negative result for extravasation on CTE, the association between various clinical and CTE parameters and the risk of rebleeding during subsequent follow-up was investigated using Cox regression analysis. Results: The diagnostic yield of CT was 10.5% (9 of 86 patients). The yield did not significantly differ between single-phase and multiphase examinations (p > 0.999), or between non-enterographic CT and CTE (p = 0.388). Extensive CD (adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 3.27; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.09-9.80; p = 0.034) and bowel wall-to-artery enhancement ratio (adjusted HR, 2.81; 95% CI, 1.21-6.54; p = 0.016) were significantly independently associated with increased rebleeding risks, whereas anti-tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ therapy after the bleeding independently decreased the risk of rebleeding (adjusted HR, 0.26; 95% CI, 0.07-0.95; p = 0.041). Conclusion: The diagnostic yield of contrast-enhanced CT was not high in CD patients presenting with acute severe LGIB. Nevertheless, even a negative CTE may be beneficial as it can help predict the risk of later rebleeding.

A study on recycling of cast as adsorbent (흡착제로서 분변토 재활용에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this research is to evaluate the adsorption capacity of casts for heavy metals. The casts were excreted by earthworm, Lumbricus rubellus, after having eaten the paper sludge. Various batch experiments on adsorption were performed to compare cast and activated carbon. The pH increase in solution due to extractives from cast was 1.3 and the cation exchange capacity which implies adsorption capacity for solubles is greater on activated carbon than on cast. According to the results of batch experiment, the removal rates of Pb, Cu, Cr, Zn using the activated carbon and casts as adsorbent were 98%, 93%, 94%, 89%, 82% and 95%, 90%, 88%,80%, 66%, respectivity, and this removal were achived less than 90 minutes. It can be said that casts is so good adsorbent as activated carbon is, although adsorption carbon was found to be some large than those of casts through Freundlich isotherm applied for adsorption of soluble. As a result on the experiment of isothermic adsorption from the mixed component solution in the batch, the order of preferable elements in heavy metal adsorption was found to be Pb>Cd>Cu>Cr>Zn on activated carbon, respectively.

  • 의미 있는 객체가 영상에 포함되어 있는지를 판단하여 영상을 객체 및 비객체 영상으로 분류함으로써 영상 검색이나 효과적인 영상 데이터베이스 구축 등에 유용하게 활용 가능하다. 이에 본 논문에서는 영상 유형에 따른 특징을 분석하여 영상 분류를 위한 기준을 선정함으로써 입력 영상을 객체 및 비객체 영상으로 분류할 수 있는 방법을 제안한다 일반적으로 객체는 주로 영상의 중심 부근에 위치하고 주변과는 상이한 칼라 특징으로 표현되므로, 영상 중심 부근에 주로 위치하는 칼라의 분포 정보를 영상 분류의 기준으로 사용하였다. 또한 객체 추출 방법[4]을 적용하여 추출된 객체와 배경 사이의 공유 경계에서 발생하는 경계 강도 정도를 활용하였다. 코렐 CD에서 무작위로 선택된 800장의 영상에 대해 제안된 기준을 적용하여 분류한 결과 약80%의 분류 정확도를 얻었다.

  • The fiat fluorescent lamp(FFL) can be used to the LCD bat]flighting. In order to evaluate the discharge characteristics of FFL firing voltage, discharge current, luminance and CIE chromaticity with frequency were measured. The experimental results show that firing voltage decreased with increasing the frequency, discharge current increased with increasing the frequency. Luminance of FFL using Xe gas shown $2700\;cd/m^2$ in 700V rms, 80 kHz.

  • The aim of this paper is to perform the experiment and the numerical simulation for investigating the heat transfer in a regenerator system with ceramic honeycomb and to suggest a useful correlation for optimization of the regenerator system. For achieving this, the effects of some parameters were investigated, e. g., switching time, cell size and length of honeycomb on the mean temperature efficiency. The measured temperatures by R-type thermocouples were compared with the predictions by means of the commercial package, STAR-CD. A useful correlation for thermal efficiency was newly proposed as a function of the normalized switching time, defined in terms of switching time, cell size and length of honeycomb. The results showed that the thermal efficiency is above 90% and the normalized heat exchange rate is higher than 80% when the normalized switching time is less than 1000.

  • Using $CdCl_2$ buffer solution as subphase for LB films deposition, it was achieved successively to fabricate the Y-type mixed LB films of (N-eicosyl pyridinium)-TCNQ(1:2) complex and arachidic acid. By measure of U.V spectra and capacitance, deposition status was confirmed. Electrical conductivity was measured on a perpendicular direction of the LB films and in consequence of calculated was average $2.5\;{\times}\;10^{-13}$ - $2\;{\times}\;10^{-14}$ S/cm.

  • One of the stable thin film transistor fabricated by cadmium suifide with the anodized aluminium oxide as gate material. The principle of the operation for the device is based on the control mechanism of injected majority carricrs to the wide band gap semiconductor, that is cadmium sulfide, by means of the function of the gate control. The fabricated device constructed by evaporating CdS layer in the form of microcrystalline on the oxided thin film characterized by ea, 80 as voltage amplification factor, 1/100 mho as transconductance, 8 kohm as dynamic output resistance, furthermore gain band width products is about 15 MHz.

  • Electrodeless discharge lamps have been objects of interest and research for several decades, mainly because of their potential for extremely long life, high lamp efficacies and smaller than standard fluorescent lamps size. A series of measurements and observations concerning variables has yielded optical and electrical characteristics for electrodeless discharge lamp like incandescent lamp and circular lamp feature. Last experiment were carried out to determine the lamp temperature at several surface points during operation. Light output levels in excess over 60,000 cd/$m^2$ have been measured in electrodeless discharge lamp for a general of conditions. At lamp surface temperatures have been measured over $80^{\circ}C$, and starting current have been measured over ${\sim}A$.

  • 미역(Sea mustard, Undaria pinnatifida)은 옛부터 임산부나 환자들에게 영양식으로 공급되어 온 우리나라의 전형적인 해조류이다. 미역에는 Ca, Fe, I등과 같은 무기질이 풍부할 뿐만 아니라(립원, 1975; 전중) 미역의 세포막 구성성분으로 다량 존재하는 알긴산은 콜레스테롤 배출작용, 중금속(Cd), 방사능 물질(Sr)의 체내 흡수 억제 및 배출 작용과 정장작용 등이 있는 것으로 보고되고 있으며(태전, 1987; Suzuki et al., 1993), 비만을 방지하기 위한 dietary fiber 식품으로서 각광을 받고 있다(홍소, 1984). 그리고 미역과 같은 갈조류에 존재하는 fucoidan은 항암효과가 있는 것으로 알려져 있다(Yamamoto and Maruyama, 1983; Sakagami, 1983). 이처럼 미역은 열량보다는 건강 및 약리적으로 우수한 식품임에도 불구하고 계속적인 내수소비 및 대일 수출감소로 재고가 매년 누적됨에 따라 미역 양식산업의 채산성은 날로 악화되어 가고 있는 실정이다. Blue-Emitting CaS:Pb Thin Film Electroluminescent Devices Fabricated by Controlled Atomic Layer Deposition

  • Lead-doped calcium sulfide(CaS:Pb) thin film electroluminescent devices were deposited using atomic layer deposition(ALD). CaS:Pb is a very promising blue phosphor showing very high luminance and the color coordinate close to the blue of cathode ray tube. The luminance, $L_{25}$, of CaS:Pb(1.6 mol.%) EL device was higher than 80 $cd/cm^2$ at a driving frequency of 60Hz. The color coordinates of blue EL emission of CaS:Pb deposited by ALD are consistent with the Pb concentration ranging from approximately 0.5 to 3 mol.%.
