보중익기탕(補中益氣湯), 인삼(人蔘) 및 황(黃)기 약침(藥鍼)이 MTX로 약침(誘發)된 백서(白鼠)의 면역기능저하(免疫機能低下)에 미치는 영향(影響) (The Effect of Herb-acupunctures of Bojoongiggi-tang (Buzhongyiqi-tang), Ginseng Radix, and Astragali Radix on Immune Responses in Rats)

  • Objectives : To investigate the effects of herb-acupunctures of Qi tonification herbs or formula on the rat immune depression induced by an anticancer drug, methotrexate (MTX) Methods: Animals were divided into 5 groups; Normal control group was not given any treatment. Immune depression was induced by oral administration of 1mg/kg MTX b.i.d for 4 days in Control, Sample I, II, and III groups. We treated on CV 4 (Guanyuan) with saline, Bojoongiggi-tang (Buzhongyiqi-tang), Ginseng Radix and Astragali Radix herb-acupunctures in Control, Sample I, II, and Ill groups, respectively. In both blood and spleen, the assessment of CD4+ T-cell count, CD8+ T-cell count, CD4/CD8 T-cell ratio was performed. Results: Here we show that 3 herb- acupuncture groups have an influence, to some extent, on CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell counts and CD4/CD8 T-cell ratio in both blood and spleen. Astragali Radix herb-acupuncture, in particular, was found to have significantly increased CD4+ T-cell count in blood and CD4/CD8 T-cell ratio in blood and spleen. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that herb-acupunctures of Bojoongiggi-tang (Buzhongyiqi-tang), Ginseng Radix and Astragali Radix may have an influence over rat immune depression induced by MTX.

  • Chemical bath deposition 방법으로 다결정 $CdS_{1-x}Se_{x}$ 박막을 세라믹 기판 위에 성장시킨 다음 온도를 변화시켜 열처리하고 X-선 회질 무늬를 측정하여 결정 구조를 밝혔다. $550^{\circ}C$로 열처리한 시료의 X-선 회절 무늬로부터 외삽법으로 구한 격자 상수는 CdS의 경우 $a_{0}=4.1364{\AA}$, $c_{0}=6.7129{\AA}$ 였으며 CdSe인 경우는 $a_{0}=4.3021{\AA}$, $c_{0}=7.0142{\AA}$ 였다. Van der Pauw 방법으로 Hall 효과를 측정하여 운반자 농도와 이동도의 온도 의존성을 연구하였다. 광전도 셀의 특성으로 스펙트럼 응답, 감도(${\gamma}$), 최대 허용 소비전격 및 응답시간을 측정하였다.

Highly efficient phosphorescent polymer OLEDs fabricated by screen printing

  • We demonstrate the use of screen printing in the fabrication of highly efficient phosphorescent polymer organic-light-emitting devices (OLEDs) based on a green-emitting $Ir(ppy)_3$ and a host polymer PVK. We incorporate PBD in the polymer host as an electron-transporting dopant and ${\alpha}-NPD$ as a hole transporting dopant. The best screen printed single-layer device exhibits very high peak luminous efficiency of 63 cd/A at a relatively high operating voltage of 17.1 V at the luminance of $650\;cd/m^2$. We observed the highest luminance of $21,000\;Cd/m^2$ at 35V. Due to the high operating voltage, despite of the high peak luminous efficiency the peak power efficiency was found to be 12.2 lm/W at the luminance of $470\;cd/m^2$ (15.9 V).

Inclusion Complexation of Cyclodextrin with Prothionamide in Aqueous Solution

  • The inclusion of ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$ $({\beta}-CyD)$ with prothionamide in aqueous phase was investigated by circular dichroism(CD), ultraviolet (UV) absorption, and solubility technique. The results suggested that a region of drug chromophore was located within the asymmetric center of ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$. Solubility and spectral changes were quantitatively treated to obtain stoichiometric ratio, which was found to be 1 : 1, and formation constants which were determined by solubility, CD, and UV method were 257, 367, and 389 $M^{-1}$, respectively. Also, the formation constant of the inclusion complex was determined by CD method at various pH. The result was that $K_c$ depended upon the pH of medium, and this fact also supported that thioamide moiety was accomodated in the cavity of ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$.

조제분유 및 조제식 중 중금속 위해성 평가 (Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals through Modified Milk Powder and Formulas)

  • 본 연구에서는 조제분유 및 조제식의 중금속 함량 실태 조사를 통해 우리나라 영 유아가 해당 식품을 섭취할 경우 중금속 노출수준에 따른 위해성을 평가하였다. 중금속 함량 실태조사를 위해 국내 유통 중인 조제분유 및 조제식 204건을 수거하여 분석한 결과, 납 함량은 평균 0.0004(조제우유)-0.010(영유아용 조제식) mg/kg이었고, 카드뮴 함량은 평균 0.002(조제우유)-0.007(성장기용 조제식) mg/kg이었으며 비소 함량은 평균 0.004(조제우유)-0.040(영유아용 조제식) mg/kg이었다. 조제분유 및 조제식을 최대로 섭취할 경우 중금속 노출량은 $0.78-1.04{\mu}g$ Pb/d, $0.65-0.87{\mu}g$ Cd/d, $2.25-3.00{\mu}g$ As/d으로 인체섭취한계량의 2.0-4.5%, 7.1-16.0%, 0.4-0.9%이었다. 따라서, 국내 유통되는 조제분유 및 조제식 섭취로 인한 중금속 노출수준은 JECFA 및 WHO의 인체노출안전기준보다 낮은 위해도를 보임으로써, 우리나라 영 유아는 조제분유 및 조제식에 존재하는 중금속의 위해성으로부터 안전한 것으로 사료된다.

유리섬유 보강재로 제작한 레진의치의 온성 전·후에 따른 정확성 평가 (Accuracy evaluation of resin complete denture made with glass fiber mesh reinforcement before and after curing)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate accuracy of glass fiber mesh complete denture of before and after curing. Methods: Edentulous model was selected as the master model. Ten study models were made by Type IV stone. Wax complete dentures were produced by the denture base and artificial teeth. CD and GD groups were measured six measurement distance before curing. The wax complete denture was investment after measurement is completed. Using a heat polymerization resin was injected resin. After injecting the resin it was curing. A complete denture was re-measured after curing. The measured data was verified by paired t-test. Results: Overall CD group was larger the value of the measured length. In the CD group, A-D point was larger. The smallest point was the B-D point. However, there was no statistically significant difference only C-D point(p>0.05). In the GD group, A-B point was larger. but B-D point was the smallest. A-D and B-C statistically points showed significant differences(p<0.05). Conclusion: Glass fiber mesh resin complete denture can be clinically applied to the edentulous patient.

Effects of Ambient Temperature on Growth Performance, Blood Metabolites, and Immune Cell Populations in Korean Cattle Steers

  • Exposure to cold may affect growth performance in accordance with the metabolic and immunological activities of animals. We evaluated whether ambient temperature affects growth performance, blood metabolites, and immune cell populations in Korean cattle. Eighteen Korean cattle steers with a mean age of 10 months and a mean weight of 277 kg were used. All steers were fed a growing stage-concentrate diet at a rate of 1.5% of body weight and Timothy hay ad libitum for 8 weeks. Experimental period 1 (P1) was for four weeks from March 7 to April 3 and period 2 (P2) was four weeks from April 4 to May 1. Mean ($8.7^{\circ}C$) and minimum ($1.0^{\circ}C$) indoor ambient temperatures during P1 were lower (p<0.001) than those ($13.0^{\circ}C$ and $6.2^{\circ}C$, respectively) during P2. Daily dry matter feed intake in both the concentrate diet and forage groups was higher (p<0.001) during P2 than P1. Average daily weight gain was higher (p<0.001) during P2 (1.38 kg/d) than P1 (1.13 kg/d). Feed efficiency during P2 was higher (p = 0.015) than P1. Blood was collected three times; on March 7, April 4, and May 2. Nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) were higher on March 7 than April 4 and May 2. Blood cortisol, glucose, and triglyceride concentrations did not differ among months. Blood CD4+, CD8+, and CD4+CD25+ T cell percentages were higher, while CD8+CD25+ T cell percentage was lower, during the colder month of March than during May, suggesting that ambient temperature affects blood T cell populations. In conclusion, colder ambient temperature decreased growth and feed efficiency in Korean cattle steers. The higher circulating NEFA concentrations observed in March compared to April suggest that lipolysis may occur at colder ambient temperatures to generate heat and maintain body temperature, resulting in lower feed efficiency in March.

일부 대학생들의 카드뮴과 납 섭취량 및 체내부하 (Dietary intake and body burden of cadmium and lead among Korean college students)

  • Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the dietary intake and blood concentrations for examination of exposure levels and exposure characteristics of Cd and Pb via food among college students aged 20 years living in Busan area. Methods: Food duplicate per a day and venous blood samples were accepted from healthy man and women college students. The samples were analyzed with graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Results: Dietary intake of Cd and Pb in the participants were $17.5{\mu}g\;Cd/day$, $21.7{\mu}g\;Pb/day$. Blood concentrations were $2.01{\mu}g\;Cd/L$, $4.32{\mu}g\;Pb/dL$, respectively. Conclusions: Smoking and drinking habits might be high influential factors in 20 years college students. Dietary intake of Cd and Pb, however, from food group of seaweed, or fish and shellfish in 20 years college students were lower than that in any other age group.

가금티푸스 감염에 대한 키토산의 면역반응 (Immunomodulatory effect on chitosan against Fowl typhoid infection)

  • Chitosan is similar in structure to cellulose and are the second most abundant polysaccharides in nature, comprising the horny substance in the exoskeletons of crabs, shrimp and insects as well as fungi. This study was conducted to access the effect of immunomodulation responses of chitosan(N-acetyl-${\beta}$-D-glucosamine) chicken infected with in Fowl typhoid(Salmonella gallinarum). One-day-old broiler chicks were divided into eight groups: The 1st group was inoculated intra-peritoneally with chitosan and challenged intra-peritoneally with S. gallinarum. The 2nd group was inoculated intra-peritoneally with chitosan. The 3rd group was feeding with chitosan and intra-peritoneally inoculated with cyclophosphamide and challenged intra-peritoneally S. gallinarum. The 4th group was feeding with chitosan and intra-peritoneally with cyclophosphamide. The 5th group was feeding with chitosan and challenged intra-peritoneally with S. gallinarum. The 6th group was feeding with chitosan. The 7th group was challenged intra-peritoneally with S. gallinarum. The 8th group was nontreated-uninfected control group. The results shows that $CD4^+$, $CD8^+$ and B lymphocyte in lymphoid organs of chickens treated with chitosan increased in especially $CD4^+$, $CD8^+$ lymphocytes (p<0.05). The group of feeding chitosan showed the significantly increased $CD4^+$, $CD8^+$ and B lymphocyte than inoculated intra-peritoneally with chitosan. As the result suggests that the feeding of chitosan induced immunostimulatant effect than the inoculation intra-peritoeally of chitosan.

중금속이 Cyanobacterium synechocystis sp.PCC 6803의 성장과 단백질 합성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Heavy Metals on Growth and Protein Synthesis in Cyanobacterium synechocystis sp. PCC 6803)

  • The changes of growth and protein synthesis pattern by aluminum (Al), cadmium (Cd), zinc (Zn) treatments were studied in Cyanobacterium synechocystis sp. PCC 6803. When exposed to Al from 5ppm to 3oppm, synechocystis grows normally. But more than that retard the growth of algae notably. The 0.05ppm Cd additions had no effect on the growth of algae. 0.1, 0.2, and 0.5ppm Cd inhibited growth. Under 1 and 2ppm Cd stress, growth was greatly diminished. Zn had dual effects. The growth of algae in media containing 5ppm was stimulated. As concentration increases more than l5ppm, growth inbition increases. Under 25ppm Zn stress, growth was greatly diminished. According to logistic theory, r and K values of each heavy metal-treated groups were estimated. Correlation analysis of r and K values with metal concentration shows that there is negative correlation between K and concentration in Cd and Zn treatments. Critical concentration which shows lethal or sublethal effect was estimated by t-test of each r and K value. The cells cultured in 10, 20, 30, 40 and 5oppm of Al, 1 and 2ppm of Cd, and 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30ppm of Zn for 4 days was used for protein analysis. Analysis of protein synthesis with SDS-PACE showed alterations of protein synthesis pattern. The synthesis of protein about 220kD increased markedly. In this study, it showed that resistance mechanism against Al, Cd, and Zn is K selection and that metal stress induced the change of protein synthesis in Cyanobacterium synechocystis sp.
