Reliability Improvement of In-Vehicle Networks by Using Wireless Communication Network and Application to ESC Systems (무선 통신 네트워크를 이용한 차량 내 네트워크의 신뢰성 개선 및 ESC 시스템에의 응용)

  • In this paper, we propose an alternative method of communication to improve the reliability of in-vehicle networks by jointly using wireless communication networks. Wired Communication networks have been used in vehicles for the monitoring and the control of vehicle motion, however, the disconnection of wires or hardware fault of networks may cause a critical problem in vehicles. If the network manager detects a disconnection or faults in wired in-vehicle network like the Controller Area Network(CAN), it can redirect the communication path from the wired to the wireless communication like the Zigbee network. To show the validity and the effectiveness of the proposed in-vehicle network architecture, we implement the Electronic Stability Control(ESC) system as ECU-In-the-Loop Simulation(EILS) and verify that the control performance can be kept well even if some hardware faults like disconnection of wires occur.

  • Fuzzy logic, neural network, fuzzy-neural network play an important as the key technology of linguistic modeling for intelligent control and decision making in complex systems. The fuzzy -neural network (FNN) learning represents one of the most effective algorithms to build such linguistic models. This paper proposes learning approach of fuzzy-neural network by immune algorithm. The proposed learning model is presented in an immune based fuzzy-neural network (FNN) form which can handle linguistic knowledge by immune algorithm. The learning algorithm of an immune based FNN is composed of two phases. The first phase used to find the initial membership functions of the fuzzy neural network model. In the second phase, a new immune algorithm based optimization is proposed for tuning of membership functions and structure of the proposed model.

  • In this paper, we presents neural network identification and control of highly complicated nonlinear Left Ventricular Assist Device(LVAD) system with a pneumatically driven mock circulation system. Generally the LVAD system need to compensate nonlinearities. Hence, it is necessary to apply high performance control techniques. Fortunately, the neural network can be applied to control of a nonlinear dynamic system by learning capability. In this study, we identify the LVAD system with Neural Network Identification. Once the NNI has learned the dynamic model of LVAD system, the other network, called Neural Network Controller(NNC), is designed for control of a LVAD system. The ability and effectiveness of identifying and controlling a LVAD system using the proposed algorithm will be demonstrated by computer simulation.

  • The automotive industry tries to provide infotainment systems to emerging automobiles. Since the infotainment systems require various peripheral devices and network connectivity, legacy operating systems such as Linux and Windows can be much preferred due to its plentiful device drivers and multimedia applications while the operating systems following OSEK standard are used for automotive electronic control units. Thus it is highly desired that the system software supporting infotainment applications can be portable over different legacy operating systems providing unified programming interfaces. The majority of legacy operating systems support POSIX interfaces for application development. MOST is an automotive network standard for infotainment systems. Network Service defines the protocol stacks for MOST control data, which is essential to implement infotainment applications over MOST. In this paper, we suggest a POSIX-based Network Service so that we can utilize legacy device drivers and applications for automotive infotainment systems. We measure the performance of the POSIX-based Network Service and show that its overhead is not significant.

  • Many security threats are occurring around the world due to the characteristics of industrial control systems that can cause serious damage in the event of a security incident including major national infrastructure. Therefore, the industrial control system network traffic should be analyzed so that it can identify the attack in advance or perform incident response after the accident. In this paper, we research the visualization technique as network forensics to enable reasonable suspicion of all possible attacks on DNP3 control system protocol, and define normal action based rules and derive visualization requirements. As a result, we developed a visualization tool that can detect sudden network traffic changes such as DDoS and attacks that contain anormal behavior from captured packet files on industrial control system network. The suspicious behavior in the industrial control system network can be found using visualization tool with Digital Bond packet.

Middleware Structure for Module-based Personal Robot (모듈기반 퍼스널 로봇을 위한 미들웨어 구조)

  • This paper proposes a middleware structure for the module-based personal robot, which can run on heterogeneous network interfaces and provides users easy interface-method regardless of underlying heterogeneous interfaces and convenient exchange of modules. The proposed middleware is divided into three layers of a streaming layer (SL), a network adaptation layer (NAL) and a network interface layer (NIL). The streaming layer manages application transactions using middleware services and provides user a uniform interfaces to the proposed middleware. The network adaptation layer manages a message-routing and provides naming service and it is a core of the proposed middleware. And the network interfaces layer manages dependent parts of heterogeneous network interfaces such as IEEE1394, USB, Ethernet, and CAN (Control Area Network). This paper implements the proposed middleware structure, where 3 types of interfaces of IEEE 1394, USB and Ethernet are used, and measures response times among those interfaces.

  • As increasing the number of Electronic Control Units in a vehicle, the proportion for reliability and stability of the software is going increasingly. Accordingly, the traditional CAN network has occurred the situation that the requirement of developing vehicle software is not sufficient. To solve these problems, the FlexRay network which is ensured the high bandwidth and real-time is generated. However it is difficult to implement FlexRay based application software because of complex protocol than traditional CAN network. Accordingly the system for analysis and verification of network state is needed. Also vehicle vendor develops application software using Matlab/Simulink in order to increase productivity. But this development method is hard to solve the network problem of node to node. Therefore this paper implements Matlab/Simulink based FlexRay network system and verifies it through comparing with existing embedded system.

SynRM Servo-Drive CVT Systems Using MRRHPNN Control with Mend ACO

  • Compared with classical linear controllers, a nonlinear controller can result in better control performance for the nonlinear uncertainties of continuously variable transmission (CVT) systems that are driven by a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM). Improved control performance can be seen in the nonlinear uncertainties behavior of CVT systems by using the proposed mingled revised recurrent Hermite polynomial neural network (MRRHPNN) control with mend ant colony optimization (ACO). The MRRHPNN control with mend ACO can carry out the overlooker control system, reformed recurrent Hermite polynomial neural network (RRHPNN) control with an adaptive law, and reimbursed control with an appraised law. Additionally, in accordance with the Lyapunov stability theorem, the adaptive law in the RRHPNN and the appraised law of the reimbursed control are established. Furthermore, to help improve convergence and to obtain better learning performance, the mend ACO is utilized for adjusting the two varied learning rates of the two parameters in the RRHPNN. Finally, comparative examples are illustrated by experimental results to confirm that the proposed control system can achieve better control performance.

  • This paper presents a control algorithm for smart actuators that can be used in a 'steer-by-wire' system for next-generation intelligent automobiles. 'Steer-by-wire' is a network-based mechatronic steering system in which mechanical linkages and hydraulics are replaced by electric motors and a digital communication network. The algorithm is designed not only to achieve the capabilities of following the desired steering angles while minimizing the discrepancy between two steering wheels, but also to tolerate an actuator with faults. The proposed algorithm is based on a simple proportional control so that it can be implemented in real-time with a low-cost embedded microcontroller. The effectiveness of the control algorithm is examined using a hardware-in-the-loop simulator consisting of two DC motors and a CAN bus network.

Clustering Formation and Topology Control in Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks

  • Convergence of various wireless systems can be cost effectively achieved through enhancement of existing technology. The emergence of Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) entails the interoperability and interconnection of various wireless technologies in one single system. Furthermore, WMN can be implemented with multi-radio and multi-channel enhancement. A multi-radio, multi-channel wireless mesh network could greatly improve certain networking performance metrics. In this research, two approaches namely, clustering and topology control mechanisms are integrated with multi-radio multi-channel wireless mesh network. A Clustering and Topology Control Algorithm (CTCA)is presented that would prolong network lifetime of the client nodes and maintain connectivity of the routers.
