  • Since most CAD tool companies are carrying out very expensive license policies, designers are sharing CAD tools with a limited number of licenses within a design working or research group. It is important to share and use them efficiently, because CAD tool licenses are very valuable resources. Designers should know CAD tool license information such as available number of licenses, types, and configuration methods to use CAD tools properly in their group. Usually, this information is provided by managers who administrate CAD tool license servers in the specific design group. In the previous CAD tool licenses sharing methods, designers have to get CAD tool license information manually and setup the environments with their own hands, If a new designer comes into the design working group, the designer wastes unnecessary time and effort due to these manual processes. As a result, designer's productivity and utilization of CAD tools will decrease. Besides, managers also waste their time and effort, since they should provide CAD tool license information manually to each desiEner. In this paper, we present a more efficient scheme to share CAD tool licenses based on directory service. The proposed method automates not only the communication processes between managers and designers, but also the license configuration steps. We expect this scheme will reduce time and effort of designers and managers as well as enhance the utilization of CAD tools.

  • In this work, two-dimensional FIR digital filter is designed and simulated using research and educational CAD tools. The two-dimensional digital filter consists mainly of one-dimensional digital filter and line memory. To speed up one-dimensional digital filter, multiplications are carried out on the basis of hardwired-shifting methods by the digital filter coefficients represented in CSD formats, while carry-save adder and Manchester adder are used in addition. It is found that the designed digital filter operates up to 30 Mhz in VHDL simulation and operates normally in IRSIM simulation for the layout made by Berkeley CAD tools.

  • The research on the FPGA CAD tools in academia has been lacking practicality due to the underlying FPGA fabric architecture which is too simple and inefficient to be applied for commercial FPGAs. Recently, the database of placement positions and routing graphs on commercial FPGA architectures has been built, and provided for enabling the academic development of placement and routing tools. To extend the limit of academic CAD tools even further, we have developed the evaluation toolkit for the K-FPGA architecture which is under development. By providing interface for exchanging data with a commercial FPGA toolkit at every step of mapping, packing, placement and routing in the tool chain, the toolkit enables individual tools to be developed without waiting for the results of the preceding step, and with no dependency on the quality of the results, and compared in detail with commercial tools at any step. Also, the fabric primitive library is developed by extracting the prototype from a reporting file of a commercial FPGA, restructuring it, and modeling the behavior of basic gates. This library can be used as the benchmarking target, and a reference design for new FPGA architectures. Since the architecture is described in a standard HDL which is familiar with hardware designers, and read in the tools rather than hard coded, the tools are "data-driven", and tolerable with the architectural changes due to the design space exploration. The experiments confirm that the developed library is correct, and the functional correctness of applications implemented on the FPGA fabric can be validated by simulation. The placement and routing tools are under development. The completion of the toolkit will enable the development of practical FPGA architectures which, in return, will synergically animate the research on optimization CAD tools.

  • The application of Computer Aided Design (CAD) tool to rehabilitative surgery of the hand is a new field of endeavor. It is considered that there are currently no existing systems designed to assist the orthopedic surgeon in planning complex procedures such as tendon transfer operations. Most tendon transfer operations are performed by surgeons on the basis of knowledge and experience gained through years of practice. However, with the help of this computer graphics-based CAD tool for planning tendon paths, the planning and the evaluation for the best operation on patients' hands also may be possible. The purpose of this study was to model kinematically the structure of the hand and design a prototype tendon path planning tool with a standard computer graphics library, in order for surgeons to perform tendon transfer surgery more objectively and quantitatively.

  • In accordance with the River Law, the basic river maintenance plan is established every 5-10 years with a considerable national budget for domestic rivers, and various river surveys such as the river section required for HEC-RAS simulation for flood level calculation are being conducted. However, river survey data are provided only in the form of a pdf report to the River Management Geographic Information System (RIMGIS), and the original data are distributedly owned by designers who performed the river maintenance plan in CAD format. It is a situation that the usability for other purposes is considerably lowered. In addition, when using surveyed CAD-type cross-sectional data for HEC-RAS, tools such as 'Dream' are used, but the reality is that time and cost are almost as close as manual work. In this study, RAUT (River Information Auto Upload Tool), a tool that can solve these problems, was developed. First, the RAUT tool attempted to automate the complicated steps of manually inputting CAD survey data and simulating the input data of the HEC-RAS one-dimensional model used in establishing the basic river plan in practice. Second, it is possible to directly read CAD survey data, which is river spatial information, and automatically upload it to the river spatial information DB based on the standard data model (ArcRiver), enabling the management of river survey data in the river maintenance plan at the national level. In other words, if RIMGIS uses a tool such as RAUT, it will be able to systematically manage national river survey data such as river section. The developed RAUT reads the river spatial information CAD data of the river maintenance master plan targeting the Jeju-do agar basin, builds it into a mySQL-based spatial DB, and automatically generates topographic data for HEC-RAS one-dimensional simulation from the built DB. A pilot process was implemented.

  • In this paper, the PLD design tool which realizes a digital circuit as PLD, by using EDIF netlist of the digital circuit designed at OrCAD have been developed. This paper is proposed the following algorithms: JIE(Joined Information Extractor) which extracts the connecting information between both cells in order to realize the digital circuit as PLD using the EDIF netlist, FND(Feedback Node Detector) which look into whether feedback exists or not, BEG(Boolean Equation Generator) which generates a boolean equation, and so on. Also, this paper is developed auto-select function which selects the PLD element with consideration of number of I/O variables of the minimized boolean equation, and algorithm generation JEDEC file of GAL6001 and GAL6002, having a forms of EPLD which is bigger than PLD.
