This study was conducted to investigate Osteoporosis on the effect of dietary factors and past young age period's dairy products consumption on BMD in 170 postmenopausal Korean women without diagnosed disease. Bone mineral density(BMD) of lumbar spine was investigated by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. Dietary assesment of the subjects were measured by Cognitive Food Frequency Recall method. The measurements of group average were 57.9kg of body weight, 36.73 of BMI(Body Mass Index), 2103.3㎉ of energy, 638.7mg of dietary calcium, 70.3g of protein, and 10.58mg of iron. Nutrient intake levels were similar to or more than the level of Korean Recommended Dietary Allowances. Bone Mineral Density(BMD) of Lumbar spine(L2-L4) of group average was 0.912g/$\textrm{cm}^2$, and under 50 yr's 1,02g/$\textrm{cm}^2$, 50~54 yr's 0.92g/$\textrm{cm}^2$, 55~59 yr's 0.85g/$\textrm{cm}^2$, over 60 yr's 0.85g/$\textrm{cm}^2$, had been getting low degree on aging. BMD of the Lumbar spine was positively correlated with calorie, body weight, dietary calcium, protein, phosphorus and serum albumin. Past dairy products consumption experiment was highly significant on BMD in teenage period(R square = 26, p-value 0.0031). Particularly in over 60 yr group, the correlations between BMD and past dairy products consumption in teenage period had shown highly significance(r=0.48, p<0.02). 55~59 yr age group had also positive correlation(R squae = 0.29, p<0.05). This results confirm that the most effective way of preventing osteoporosis and the fractures is to maximize peak bone mass in early life and to minimize bone loss through the balanced intake of Ca and other nutrients and regular physical activity.

To investigate the possible use of plants for landscaping in reclaimed soil, a planting pilot system experiment was performed over the course of four years in reclaimed dredging area with four species: Alnus firma, Alnus hirsuta, Pinus thunbergii, and Pyrachantha angustifolia for 4 years. The physicochemical characteristics of the tested soil showed that it was sandy through coming from a reclaimed dredging area. The average pH of the tested soil was 7.16(slight alkali), and electric conductivity(EC) was relatively low, $294{\mu}S/cm$, even though it came from a saltwater area. To test the effect of planting density vs. phytomass by plant specie from a planting basin, the experiment was designed using four plant species with high and low planting densities over 4 years. The planting conditions of the growth of landscape tree species exhibited growth height as follows: A. hirsuta, A. firma, P. thunbergii, and P. angustifolia, whill the DBH followed the order of A. hirsuta, A. firma, and P. thunbergii. The total phytomass of each plant was higher at low density planting areas than high density planting area in terms of total phytomass production and growth distribution in the reclaimed dredging area. Total phytomass per unit area increased as follows: A. hirsuta, A. firma, P. thunbergii, and P. angustifolia. The total phytomass per each tested plant was 2 times higher in low density planting areas than high density planting areas. Total phytomass per unit area, however, was similar or slighty higher in high density planting areas compared to low density areas. Among the tested plants, A. hirsuta showed the highest phytomass, implying that A. hirsuta adapted very well to the reclaimed area and has the capability of a fast growth, nitrogen fixation tree, and utilizing insoluble nutrients through inoculated root nodule bacteria. The yield of phytomass per individual in low density Alnus species was greater than that of the high density. However, those per unit areas had no difference in the density-dependent planting. The ratio of belowground to aboveground was $0.21{\sim}0.26$. Thus, it could be concluded that the Alnus species are potential candidates for ornamental tree species in reclaimed dredging areas. This study offers baseline data for the use of ornamental tree species in reclaimed dredging areas. Additional research is required for different ornamental species in order to increase phytomass of a planting conditions based on reclaimed dredging areas.
Crisphead lettuce(Lactuca sativa L.) was grown in NFT to investigate the effects of NO$_3$-N and NH$_4$-N ratio in nutrient solution and elevated $CO_2$ treatment in the crisphead lettuce growth. This experiment has been conducted under three different ratios of NO$_3$-N:NH$_4$-N(100:0, 75:25, 50:50) with two $CO_2$ concentration (control, 1500ppm ). The results are as follows; 1. In the case of not controlling pH and EC in nutrient solution, pH was gradually increased in NO$_3$-N:NH$_4$-N=100:0 treatment but rapidly decreased in the nutrient solution 2. Daily changes of NO$_3$-N and NH$_4$-N were observed without controlling the nutrient solution. In the treatments of NO$_3$-N:NH$_4$-N ratios were 75:25 and 50:50, NO$_3$-N absorption rates were 27.7% and 26.1%, while NH$_4$-N absorption rates were 87.9% and 71.2%, respectively. 3. There was little differences in total nitrogen of leaves. However phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium contents were highly shown in the treatment of $CO_2$ 1500ppm and 100:0 ratio of NO$_3$-N:NH$_4$-N. 4. Higher $CO_2$ assimilation rate was shown in plants grown under $CO_2$ 1500ppm and 100:0 ratio of NO$_3$-N:NH$_4$-N. It dropped significantly with the increase of NH$_4$- N rates in nutrient solution. 5. Fresh weight, leaf number, root length and root weight of crisphead lettuce were far better in the treatment of $CO_2$ 1500ppm and 100:0 ratio of NO$_3$-N:NH$_4$-N. Growth differences by $CO_2$ elevation were not shown in other NO$_3$-N:NH$_4$-N treatments. 6. The highest nitrate contents of leaves were shown in NO$_3$-N single treatment but shown the lowest vitamin C contents. Nitrate contents of leaves were decreased by $CO_2$ but the effect was slight treatment.
This study was conducted to find the changes of growth, seed yield and several characteristics of sesame by leaf spray of boron as a solution which is likely to be lack in the soil. It is carried out at low land developed 5 years ago. The amount of 200l /l0a boron as boric acid is sprayed in each treatment at the 11 node stage of sesame in main stem. The spraying concentrations of boric acid are 0.0, 0.2 and 0.4% in each treatment of the level low plot and the ridge height 15cm plot. The result shows that leaf area is increased in proportion to the concentration of boric acid in each treatment of the level low and the ridge height 15cm, and the degree of increase of each node order is remarkable in lower leaves and is more remarkable in the treatment of level low plot. The effects of leaf spray of boric acid are not only the increase of leaf area but also dry weight, no. of capsule per plant, 1,000 grains weight of capsule setting under middle position. As a result, the amount of seed is increased in 53% in the treatment of level low. The change of major characteristics according to leaf spray of boric acid is generally great in the treatment of level low. Especially the increase of leaf area in the part of upper leaves and low leaves is effective to improve other characteristics.
In order to estimate energy budgets of Palaemon macrodactylus, larvae of the shrimp were reared in the laboratory at constant conditions $(25^{\circ}C: 31-32\%o),$ and then juvenile to adult of the shrimp were reared at $15^{\circ}C\;and\;25^{\circ}C$ in the laboratory. Energy used by the reared shrimps were calculated from estimates of data on feeding, growth, molting, metabolism, nitrogen excretion, and energy content. Juveniles and adults reared in the laboratory, which fed on Artemia nauplii, had an average daily growth rates of 0.079 mm/day at $15^{\circ}C\;and\;of\;0.122mm/day\;at\;25^{\circ}C$. The average growth factor* of P. macrodactylus males and females ranged from $3.2\%$ for adult to $13.2\%$ for juveniles individuals, respectively. Intermolt periods were related to body size of the shrimp and to temperature. Average laboratory growth curves were calculated from data on growth factors and intermolt periods to body size of the shrimp at $15^{\circ}C\;and\;25^{\circ}C$. The calorie contents of the shrimp, their molts, eggs and larvae were determined by biochemical composition and oxygen bomb calorimetry. The average amount of energy used in growth for larvae and juvenile to adult were 4.94 cal and 4.55 cal per dry weight in milligram, respectively. The ammount of oxygen used in metabolism was calculated from size, temperature-specific respiration rate. To convert the ammount of oxygen used in respiration into the equivalent energy lost heat was estimated from the data on chemical composition for the larvae and adult, the values was 4.58 cal/ml $O_2$. The energy content per egg was 0.078 cal. The assimilation efficiency estimated by nitrogen content of food and egested faeces gave $61.5\%$ for the larvae. The efficiencies for juvenile to adult ranged between $79.4\%$ and $90.1\%$ The gross growth efficiencies $(K_1)$ and net growth efficiencies $(K_2)$ of P macrodactylus showed $18.33\%\;and 32.63\%$ for total larval stages, ranged from $21.30\%\;to\;31.04\%\;and\;from\;30.03\%\;to\;39.34\%$ for juvenile to adult, respectively.
In order to study the changes of components and enzyme activities during Chungkookjang-Koji preparation, the Kojies were prepared with Bacillus Natto, Bacillus subtilis and traditional method. The temperature of Koji materials during Koji preparation was very different according to the experimental group. The content of ethyl alcohol, reducing sugar, amino nitrogen and water soluble nitrogen were changed by the Koji preparing stage and experimental group. Amylase and protease activities showed on irregular change on standing and their activities were not remarkably different among the groups and appeared weakly.

Kwamaegi is made from the flesh of Pacific saury, Cololabis Saira, which is traditional Korean seafood. It is well-recognized as a valuable health food containing EPA(eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA(docosahexaenoic acid) to be known ${\omega}$-3 fatty acid. This study was conducted to obtain basic data which can be applied to process of canned Kwamaegi using tomato paste sauce. Commercial Kwamaegi was cut into $2{\times}3cm$ lengths, filled 90 g into can (301-3), added with 60 g water and then precooked for 10 min. at $100^{\circ}C$. After precooking, water was drained. The precooked Kwamaegi was packed into the can, and added with 60 g of tomato paste sauce(tomato paste 42%, gum guar 1.0%, salt 2.0%, starch syrup 2.0%, cooking wine 1%, water 52%). The cans were seamed using a vacuum seamer, and then sterilized for various Fo values (Fo 8~12 min.) in a steam system retort at $121^{\circ}C$. pH, VBN, amino-N, total amino acid, free amino acid, color value (L, a, b), texture profile, TBA value, mineral, sensory evaluation and viable bacterial count of the canned Kwamaegi using tomato paste sauce produced at various sterilization condition(Fo 8~12 min.) were measured. There was no remarkable difference between sterilization conditions and sensual characteristics. The results showed that the product sterilized at Fo 8 min. was the most desirable because this condition is the most economical and tasty.
Seeds of rice, cv. Ilpoom, and barnyardgrasses(Echinochloa crus-galli, vars. oryzicola, crux-galli, and praticola) were sown for a characterization of their responses to temperature during emergence under a dry direct-seeded condition. A laboratory-made aluminum block apparatus for emergence-temperature control conferred a linear continuous temperature gradient from 10 to $30^{\circ}C$ to the seeds from cooling to heating ends of the apparatus. The lowest temperature for emergence was $12.3^{\circ}C$ for rice cv. Ilpoom, and $11.0^{\circ}C$ for the three varieties of Echinochloa spp.. Percent emergence of rice increased sharply with an increase in temperature by ca. $20^{\circ}C$, then leveled-off, while those of barnyardgrasses increased almost linearly with temperatures up to $30^{\circ}C$. In rice the time required for emergence after seeding was shortened exponentially with increased temperature while those for barnyardgrasses were shortened almost linearly from 11 to $30^{\circ}C$. The temperature-response characteristic of rice in emergence-speed was almost the same among those for the 1st emergence, emergence by 25, 50, 75%, or average emergence time. At $13^{\circ}C$, $346.7^{\circ}C$ days of accummulated temperature(26.67 days) were required for the 1st emergence in rice while 131.7, 136.0, and $138.7^{\circ}C$ days(10.13, 10.46, and 10.67 days) were required for the 1st emergence in E. spp., vars. crus-galli, praticola, and oryzicola, respectively. Greater cold tolerance and increasingly faster emergence of barnyardgrasses than rice below $20^{\circ}C$ seem to render the barnyardgrasses as much more competitive than rice at lower temperatures.
Major element zoning has been analyzed in garnet porphroblasts obtained from the Grt-St and Ky-Grt-St grade assemblages in Zones I on the northern flank of the Pelham Dome, north central Massachusetts. These porphyroblasts grew during multiple phases of deformation and meta-morphism revealed by the inclusion trail geometry plus the chemical zoning patterns within garnet porphyroblasts. Unusual zoning patterns, including zoning reversals and gradient changes in XMn, zlgzag patterns in Fe/(Fe +Mg) and staircase-shaped patterns in XCa, are coincident with textural truncations and other changes in microstructure within the garnet porphrublasts. Chemical variations in plagioclase, biotite, muscovite and staurolite combined with inclusion trail geometry and petrography reveal that the garnet zoning patterns are modified by combinations of the following. (1) Uni-and divariant reactions involving garnet consumption(Grt+ Chl+Ms=St+Bt+Qtz + $H_2$O) and production(St+Ms + Qtz= Bt+ Grt +A1$_2$$SiO_{5}$ + $H_2$O). (2) Deformation induced episudic ionit dissolution, preferential diffusion and re-distribution during foliation development. (3) P-T changes during growth of the porphyroblasts. The P-T paths combined with petrographic and inclusion trail morphology observations consist of two pattens; (1) heating/compression during NW-SE shortening; and (2) decompression with cooling during NNW-SSE shortening. Based on temperature-time(T-t) geochronological data and late-Paleozoic tectonic model, Alleghanian metamorphism, which is the result of heterogeneous shearing concentrated along the boundary between the Abalone Terrane(Pelham dome) and cover rocks(Bronson Hill Terrane), has produced Ky-St-Ms mineral assemblage during Pennsylvanian(290-300 Ma) in Shutesbury area. However, temperature of alleghanian metamorphism was not high enough to form garnet and staurolite in the Northfiled syncline area. Alleghanian metamorphism has affected only the matrix due to heterogeneous shearing in the study area.
Five mold strains - Mucor racemousus, Rhizopus oryzae, Aspergillus oryzae, Aspergillus kawachii, and Monascus purpureus - were used for the fermentation of both freeze-dried and air-dried silkworm powders. The concentrations of proteins and minerals, electrophoretical protein patterns, fatty acid composition and the activities of fibrinolytic and antioxidation with freeze-dried silkworm (FDSW) or air-dried silkworm powders (ADSW) fermented by the five molds were investigated. The concentrations of major minerals in fermented FDSW and ADSW powders were K by 72.0-76.3 and 77.1-78.9 ppm, Mg by 29.6-49.7 and 44.3-58.7 ppm, Ca by 1.9-14.9 and 9.8-21.6 ppm and Zn by 0.64-0.70 and 4.17-4.52 ppm, respectively. Major fatty acids in fermented FDSW and ADSW powders were linolenic acid, oleic acid, and palmitic acid. There were slightly varietal differences in electrophoretical protein patterns when total protein patterns of fermented FDSW and ADSW powders were analyzed by native-and SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE). DPPH radical scavenging activity was slightly stronger in fermented ADSW powders than that in fermented FDSW. Fibriolytic activity was only detected in the FDSW fermented by Aspergillus kawachi and Monascus purpureus. These results may provide the basic data to understand the biological activities and chemical characteristics of silkworm fermented by mold, which can be used for the development of functional foods.
