  • ln this paper, the $Sr_{l-x}Ca_xTiO_3(0\leqx\leq0.2)-based$ grain boundary layer ceramics were fabricated to measure dielectric properties with the sintering temperature and the thermal treatment time. The sintering temperature and time were $1420~15206{\circ}C$, 4hours, and the thermal treatment temperature and time of the specimen were $l150^{\circ}C$, 1, 2, 3hours, respectively. The structural and the dielectric properties were investigated by SEM, X-ray, HP4194A and K6517. The average grain size was increased with increasing the sintering temperature, but it decreased up to 15mo1% with increasing content of Ca. X-ray diffraction analysis results showed that all specimens were the cubic structure, and the main peaks were moved to right and the lattice constant were decreased with increasing content of Ca. The appropriate thermal treatment time and temperature of CuO to obtain dielectric properties of $\varepsilon_r>50000,\; tan \delta<0.05\; and \;\DeltaC<\pm10%$ were 2hrs and $l150^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • The effects of the moments of the interarrival time and service time on the system performance measures such as blocking probability, mean and standard deviation of the number of customers in service facility and orbit are numerically investigated. The results reveal the performance measures are more sensitive with respect to the interarrival time than the service time. Approximation for $GI/G/c$ retrial queues using $PH/PH/c$ retrial queue is presented.

  • Growth curves of seven strains of lactic acid bacteria isolated from Kimchi were graphed during cultivation at 1$0^{\circ}C$, 2$0^{\circ}C$, 3$0^{\circ}C$ and 4$0^{\circ}C$ in filter sterilized Chinese cabbage juice, and then lag time and generation time at each conditions were calcurated. At 3$0^{\circ}C$, the lag time of Leu. mesenteroides subsp. dextranicum was 168 min(minutes), Leu. mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides 204 min, Leu. paramesenteroides 612 min, Lac. bavaricus 258 min, Lac. homohiochii 228 min, Lac. plantarum 270 min and Lac. brevis 264 min. And at this temperature, the generation times of Leu. mesenteroides subsp. dextranicum and Leu. mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides were all 36 min, Lac. bavaricus 33 min, Lac. homohiochii 39 min, Lac. plantarum 66 min, Lac. brevis 42 min and Leu. paramesenteroides 162 min. As cultural temperature was lowed from 3$0^{\circ}C$ to 1$0^{\circ}C$, all strains showed remarkable prolongations in lag time and in generation time, and the prolongations were most conspicuous in Lac. plantarum. At 1$0^{\circ}C$, 2$0^{\circ}C$ and 3$0^{\circ}C$, both the lag time and the generation time of Leu. mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides were shorter than those of Lac. plantarum. But at 4$0^{\circ}C$, this pattern was completely inverted. As a whole lower temperatures were more favorable for the growth of Leu. mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides, while higher temperatures were for Lac. plantarum.

  • Active air flushing mini-pumps were installed in a rigid polypropylene container ($32cm{\time}23cm{\time}18cm$) containing 900 g of fresh green peppers for effectively controlling its $O_2$ concentration on real time basis to preserve the product quality. The performance of the constructed system was compared to that of the modified atmosphere (MA) container system with gas diffusion tube controlled in close/open cycles responding to real time $O_2$ concentration at 10 and $20^{\circ}C$. In the control logic, the $O_2$ concentration was programmed to be located exactly at 13% or stay in the range of 13-15%. The active air flushing system could control the $O_2$ concentration in the desired level or range at both temperatures, while the passive diffusion system could work only under the low temperature condition of $10^{\circ}C$. At higher temperature of $20^{\circ}C$, the passive diffusion system could not manage the produce respiration increased more highly than the gas transfer through the diffusion tube, resulting in too low $O_2$ concentration and too high $CO_2$ concentration which would be injurious to the green pepper. When tested at $20^{\circ}C$, the MA container system could preserve the green pepper better than the perforated air package in terms of weight loss, ascorbic acid and chlorophyll contents and firmness.

  • The SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites were fabricated by combining 40vol.% of Zirconium Diboride(hereafter, $ZrB_2$) powders with Silicon Carbide(hereafter, SiC) matrix. TheSiC+40vol.%$ZrB_2$ composites were manufactured through Spark Plasma Sintering(hereafter, SPS) under argon atmosphere, uniaxial pressure of 50MPa, heating rate of $100^{\circ}C$/min, sintering temperature of $1,500^{\circ}C$ and holding time of 5min. But one on/off pulse sequence(one pulse time: 2.78ms) is 10:9(hereafter, SZ10), and the other is 48:8(hereafter, SZ48). The physical and mechanical properties of the SZ12 and SZ48 were examined. Reactions between $\beta$-SiC and $ZrB_2$ were not observed via X-Ray Diffraction(hereafter, XRD) analysis. The apparent porosity of the SZ10 and SZ48 composites were 9.7455 and 12.2766%, respectively. The SZ10 composite, 593.87MPa, had higher flexural strength than the SZ48 composite, 324.78MPa, at room temperature. The electrical properties of the SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites had Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistance(hereafter, PTCR).

  • The phenomena that the electrical conductivity of rutile single crystal changes with time were investigated along the a and c crystallographic axes, at 85$0^{\circ}C$ and Po2 in the range of 1~10-18.5atm. The D.C. conductivity decreased with and saturated some value after ca. 100 hours. But the A.C. conductivity showed no time dependence in the whole Po2 range. These experimental results suggest that the time dependence of D.C. conductivity of rutile single crystal is due to space charge polarization effect; the electrode was Pt which is complete electronic conductor, while the sample was TiO2 which is mixed conductor.

  • 2D SiC fiber-SiC (SiC/SiC) composites were fabricated via slurry infiltration and a stacking process. The effects of the additive composition and content in SiC slurries and the effect of the sintering time on the sintered density and strength of SiC/SiC composites were investigated. A slurry containing $Al_2O_3-Y_2O_3-MgO$ (AYM) additives led to a higher strength compared to a slurry containing $Al_2O_3-Y_2O_3-CaO$ (AYC) additives. The sintered density increased as the sintering time increased and showed a maximum (>98%) at 4 h. In contrast, the flexural strength increased as the sintering time increased and showed a maximum (615 MPa) at 6 h. The relative density and flexural strength increased as the additive content increased.

  • This study examines the perceptual motivation behind dissimilation. Consistent with previous arguments suggesting that dissimilation originates from perception rather than production (Coetzee, 2005; Kiparsky, 2003; Scheer, 2013), we hypothesized that an oral stop with short of voice onset time (VOT) would be recognized as non-aspirated more often when it is followed by an aspirated stop with a long VOT. This hypothesis was tested through a perception experiment in which 32 Korean listeners made judgments on the first consonant of C1VC2V words manipulated with C1 VOT and C2 types. The results revealed that aspirated-based C1 was recognized as aspirated or tense depending on the duration of VOT, while lenis-based C1 was consistently recognized as lenis. The dissimilatory effect of aspirated C2 was confirmed as anticipated, and furthermore, tense C2 increased the ratio of tense responses more than aspirated C2. These results provide evidence of a perceptual bias against recurrent aspirated stops, which may play a role in activating a dissimilatory rule or constraint in a language. The assimilatory effect of tense C2 is in consistent with findings indicating that word-initial tensification is facilitated by the following tense stop in Korean (Kang & Oh, 2016; H. Kim, 2016).

  • The fabrication process and properties of SiC particulate preforms with high volume fraction above 50% were investigated. The SiC particulate preforms were fabricated by vacuum-assisted extraction method after wet mixing of SiC particulates of 48 ${\mu}m$ in diameter, $SiO_2$ as inorganic binder, cationic starch as organic binder and polyacrylamide as dispersant in distilled water. The SiC particulate preforms were consolidated by vacuum-assisted extraction, and were followed by drying and calcination. The drying processes were consisted with natural drying at $25^{\circ}C$ for 36 hrs and forced drying at 10$0^{\circ}C$ for 12 hrs in order to prevent the micro-cracking of SiC particulates preform. The compressive strengths of SiC particulate preforms were dependent on the inorganic binder content, calcination temperature and calcination time. The compressive strength of SiC preform increased from 0.47 MPa to 1.79 MPa with increasing the inorganic binder content from 1% to 4% due to the increase of $SiO_2$ flocculant between the interfaces of SiC particulates. The compressive strength of SiC preform increased from 0.90 MPa to 3.21 MPa with increasing the calcination temperatures from 800 to 120$0^{\circ}C$ under identical calcination time of 4hrs. The compressive strength of SiC preform increased from 0.92 to 1.95 MPa with increasing the calcination time from 2 hrs to f hrs at calcination temperature of 110$0^{\circ}C$. The increase of compressive strength of SiC preform with increasing the calcination temperature and time is due to the formation of crystobalite $SiO_2$ phase at the interfaces of SiC particulates.
