The electrical arc furnace (EAF) classified as a special waste contains many flux components producing melts during a sintering process, so it decreases the sintering temperature and improves the mechanical properties of specimens. Increasing dust content in a clay-dust system brick, however, may cause the fraction defective higher due to the excessive liquid produced. To control the liquid behavior produced during sintering process for the clay-dust system specimens, the $Al_2O_3$ was added and the physical properties were analyzed. The microstructure for the clay-dust system body sintered with $Al_2O_3$ became homogeneous and the overall size of pores decreased. Adding $Al_2O_3$ to clay-dust system body increased the mechanical properties and the temperature of maximum strength increased as much as $50^{\circ}C$, and the apparent density increased and the absorption decreased. The mullite ($3Al_2O_3{\cdot}2SiO_2$) was produced during sintering process by reaction of $Al_2O_3$ and $SiO_2$ which could participate to liquid-producing-process and the viscosity of melts increased which was proved by measuring a critical viscosity temperature (Tcv) therefore, the refractoriness of specimens were improved to lower the fraction defective.

No analytical solution exists for evaluating in-situ hydraulic conductivity of vertical cutoff walls by analyzing slug test results with consideration of transient flow. There is an analytical solution proposed to interpret a slug test performed in a partially penetrated well within an aquifer. However, this analytical solution cannot be directly applied to the cutoff wall because the solution has been developed exclusively for an infinite aquifer instead of a narrow cutoff wall. To consider the cutoff wall boundary conditions (i.e, constant head boundary and no flux boundary condition), the analytical solution has been modified in this study to take into account the narrow boundaries by introducing the imaginary well theory. Type curves are constructed from the currently derived analytical solution and compared with those of a partially penetrated well within an aquifer. The constant head boundary condition provides faster hydraulic head recovery curve than the aquifer case. On the other hand, no flux boundary condition leads to slower hydraulic head recovery. The bigger the shape factor and deviation of the well and the smaller the width of the vertical cutoff wall are, the more effect of boundary condition was observed. The type curves obtained from the analytical solution for a cutoff wall are similar to those made by the numerical method in the literature.

The CANDU element bowing is attributed to actions of both the thermally induced bending moments and the bending moment due to hydraulic drag and mechanical loads, where the bowing is defined as the lateral deflection of an element from the axial centerline. This paper consider only the thermally-induced bending moments which are generated both within the sheath and the fuel and sheath by an asymmetric temperature distribution with respect to the axis of an element The generalized and explicit analytical formula for the thermally-induced bending is presented in con-sideration of 1) bending of an empty tube treated by neglecting the fuel/sheath mechanical interaction and 2) fuel/sheath interaction due to the pellet and sheath temperature variations, where in each case the temperature asymmetries in sheath are modelled to be caused by the combined effects of (i) non-uniform coolant temperature due to imperfect coolant mixing, (ii) variable sheath/coolant heat transfer coefficient, (iii) asymmetric heat generation due to neutron flux gradients across an element and so as to inclusively cover the uniform temperature distributions within the fuel and sheath with respect to the axial centerline. As the results of the sensitivity calculations of the element bowing with the variations of the parameters in the formula, it is found that the element bowing is greatly affected relatively with the variations or changes of element length, sheath inside diameter, average coolant temperature and its variation factor, pellet/sheath mechanical interaction factor, neutron flux depression factor, pellet thermal expansion coefficient, pellet/sheath heat transfer coefficient in comparison with those of other parameters such as sheath thickness, film heat transfer coefficient, sheath thermal expansion coefficient and sheath and pellet thermal conductivities.

In this study, crop coefficients were calculated in two different methods and the results were evaluated. In the first method, appropriateness of GLDAS-based evapotranspiration was evaluated by comparing it with observed data of Cheongmi-cheon (CMC) Flux tower. Then, crop coefficient was calculated by dividing actual evapotranspiration with potential evapotranspiration that derived from GLDAS. In the second method, crop coefficient was determined by using MLR (Multiple Linear Regression) analysis with vegetation index (NDVI, EVI, LAI and SAVI) derived from MODIS and in-situ soil moisture data observed in CMC, In comparison of two crop coefficients over the entire period, for each crop coefficient GLDAS Kc and SM&VI Kc, shows the mean value of 0.412 and 0.378, the bias of 0.031 and -0.004, the RMSE of 0.092 and 0.069, and the Index of Agree (IOA) of 0.944 and 0.958. Overall, both methods showed similar patterns with observed evapotranspiration, but the SM&VI-based method showed better results. One step further, the statistical evaluation of GLDAS Kc and SM&VI Kc in specific period was performed according to the growth phase of the crop. The result shows that GLDAS Kc was better in the early and mid-phase of the crop growth, and SM&VI Kc was better in the latter phase. This result seems to be because of reduced accuracy of MODIS sensors due to yellow dust in spring and rain clouds in summer. If the observational accuracy of the MODIS sensor is improved in subsequent study, the accuracy of the SM&VI-based method will also be improved and this method will be applicable in determining the crop coefficient of unmeasured basin or predicting the crop coefficient of a certain area.

Recently efforts are underway to analyze the impacts of anthropogenic $CO_2$ on the global environments and the amount of oceanic uptake increase. The East Sea is now viewed as a miniature ocean because its circulation pattern is similar to the ocean conveyer belt. The biological pump of the East Sea is a vital component to understand the carbon cycle quantitatively. In this paper, the biological pump is estimated utilizing the stoichiometric ratio between carbon and phosphorus. A simple phosphate budget model is constructed based on the seawater and dissolved oxygen box model that can simulate the recent structural change in deep water circulation of the East Sea. A model run from you 1952 to 2040 shows the steadily intensifying biological pump. Currently it exports about 0.016 Pg C yr$^{-1}$ , which corresponds to 35% of the carbon introduced into the seawater by the air-sea exchange. An increased oxygen supply to the central water mass as a result of from the transition in the ventilation system might enhance the remineralization of sinking biogenic particles. This should strengthen the upward nutrient flux into the surface layer. Consequently, the biological sequestration of anthropogenic carbon is expected to increase with time. The estimated biological uptake of the anthropogenic carbon in the East Sea since the Industrial Revolution is estimated as 0.025 Pg C.

The $HfO_X$ thin film was deposited what it has been paid attention to the next generation oxide thin layer of MOSFET (metal-Oxide semiconductor field-effect-transistor) by rf magnetron sputter on Si (100) substrate. The $HfO_X$ thin film was deposited using a various oxygen gas flows (5, 10, 15 sccm). After deposition, $HfO_X$ thin films were annealed from 400 to $800^{\circ}C$ for 20 min in nitrogen ambient. The electrical characteristics of the $HfO_X$ thin film was improved by leakage current properties, depending on the increase of oxygen gas flow and annealing temperature. In particular, the properties of nano-mechanics of $HfO_X$ thin films were measured by AFM and Nano-indenter. From the results, the maximum indentation depth at the basis of maximum indentation force was increased from 24.9 to 38.8 nm according to increase the annealing temperature. Especially, the indentation depth was increased rapidly at $800^{\circ}C$. The rapid increasement of indentation depth was expected to be due to the change of residual stress in the $HfO_X$ thin film, and this result was caused by relative flux of oxygen outgasing during the annealing process.

Dense tubular $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (BSCF) membranes were prepared by extrusion technique. The phase structure of the $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}}$ membranes was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Relative density of $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}}$ tubular membrane was 94.10%. Oxygen permeation was measured at difference operating condition of feed side and permeate side in the temperature range from 700 to $950^{\circ}C$. The oxygen permeation flux of dense tubular $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}}$ membrane reached maximum 1.37 mL/$min{\cdot}cm^2$ at $900^{\circ}C$ exposed to ambient air (feed side) and vacuum pump (permeate side).
We estimate the momentum fluxes of short-period gravity waves which are observed in the OI 557.7 nm nightglow emission with all-sky camera at Mt. Bohyun ($36.2^{\circ}\;N,\;128.9^{\circ}\;E$) in Korea. The intrinsic phase speed ($C_{int}$), the intrinsic period (${\tau}_{int}$), and vertical wavelength (${\lambda}_z$) are also deduced from the horizontal wavelength (${\lambda}_h$), observed period (${\tau}_{ob}$), propagation direction (${\phi}_{ob}$), observe phase speed (${\upsilon}_{ob}$) of the gravity wave on the all-sky images. The neutral winds to deduce intrinsic wave parameters are measured with Fabry-Perot interferometer on Shigaraki ($34.8^{\circ}\;N,\;13.1^{\circ}\;E$) in Japan. We selected 5-nights of observations during the period between July 2002 and December 2006 considering of the weather and instrument conditions in two observation sites. The mean values of intrinsic parameter of gravity waves are $({\tau}_{int})\;=\;12.9\;{\pm}\;6.1\;m/s,\;({\lambda}_z)\;=\;12.9\;{\pm}\;6.5,\;and\;(C_{int})\;=\;40.6\;{\pm}\;11.6\;min$. The mean value of calculated momentum fluxes for four nights besides of ${\lambda}_z\;<\;6\;km$ is $12.0\;{\pm}\;15.2\;m^2/s^2$. It is needed the long-term coherent observation to obtain typical values of momentum fluxes of the mesospheric gravity waves using all-sky camera and the neutral wind measurements.
Soil temperature is one of the most important environmental factors that govern hydrological and biogeochemical processes related to diffuse pollution. In this study, considering the snowmelting and the soil freezing-thawing processes, a set of computer codes to estimate winter soil temperature has been developed for CAMEL (Chemicals, Agricultural Management and Erosion Losses), a distributed watershed model. The model was calibrated and validated against the field measurements for three months at 4 sites across the study catchment in a rural area of Yeoju, Korea. The degree of agreement between the simulated and the observed soil temperature is good for the soil surface ($R^2$ 0.71~0.95, RMSE $0.89{\sim}1.49^{\circ}C$). As for the subsurface soils, however, the simulation results are not as good as for the soil surface ($R^2$ 0.51~0.97, RMSE $0.51{\sim}5.08^{\circ}C$) which is considered resulting from vertically-homogeneous soil textures assumed in the model. The model well simulates the blanket effect of snowpack and the latent heat flux in the soil freezing-thawing processes. Although there is some discrepancy between the simulated and the observed soil temperature due to limitations of the model structure and the lack of data, the model reasonably well simulates the temporal and spatial distributions of the soil temperature and the snow water equivalent in accordance with the land uses and the topography of the study catchment.
