Business Model Mining: Analyzing a Firm's Business Model with Text Mining of Annual Report

  • As the business model is receiving considerable attention these days, the ability to collect business model related information has become essential requirement for a company. The annual report is one of the most important external documents which contain crucial information about the company's business model. By investigating business descriptions and their future strategies within the annual report, we can easily analyze a company's business model. However, given the sheer volume of the data, which is usually over a hundred pages, it is not practical to depend only on manual extraction. The purpose of this study is to complement the manual extraction process by using text mining techniques. In this study, the text mining technique is applied in business model concept extraction and business model evolution analysis. By concept, we mean the overview of a company's business model within a specific year, and, by evolution, we mean temporal changes in the business model concept over time. The efficiency and effectiveness of our methodology is illustrated by a case example of three companies in the US video rental industry.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the concept of the Business Art and the validity of the Business Art making process model, as well as to confirm the creative value of art in the business environment. The research data were collected using in-depth interviews and the collected data were analyzed by applying the grounded theory. As a result of the study, various experts in the fields of business and arts evaluated the concept of the Business Art and contents of the Business Art process model as generally valid, considering that they were actually applicable in light of their own experiences. This study establishes a new theory by verifying the transferability of academic research on the new concept of the Business Art, and presents a new viewpoint different from the existing one in the relationship between business and art. Also, the implication of this study lies in that it provided the basis for establishing the method and system that apply the concept of the Business Art and its process to business in the future.

전자상거래 인프라를 활용한 글로벌 SCM(Supply Chain Management) 모델 구현에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Implementation of Global SCM(Supply Chain Management) Model using Electronic Commerce Infrastructure)

  • SCM(Supply Chain Management) have been introduced in many companies for integrated management and improvement of business process. Recently, as internet and e-business concept are spread globally, the SCM concept is expanded from one internal company process to inter-company process, it makes a Global SCM concept. In this paper, we discuss the implementation of the Global SCM concept using e-business infrastructure, and propose SCM portal models. Four types of the SCM portal model are discussed, which are forecasting information sharing model, e-Marketplace-typed model, collaboration model and logistics information sharing model. The major concept of the SCM portal is to share information of supply chain process, it provide merits of scale to company. The result of this paper can be summarized as follows : First, the information sharing is very useful in the Global SCM. Second, the e-business infrastructure, especially e-Marketplace can be usefully used for implementation of SCM portal. Third, the M2M(Market to Market) function of e-Marketplace is a major function for implementing SCM portal.

  • 네트워크 패러다임의 변화 속에 새로운 제품, 기술, 서비스와 더불어 비즈니스 모델을 제시하는 기업이 새로운 강자로 부상하고 있다. 기업들은 네트워크가 가져온 시공간의 제약 해결 등을 얻기 위해 기존의 비즈니스를 네트워크 공간으로 옮기기 위한 노력을 진행하였으며, 이러한 과정에서 기업들은 전에 없던 새로운 비즈니스 모델을 출현시키고 있다. 본 연구에서는 비즈니스 모델 변화를 위해서는 고객이 아닌 새로운 네트워크 가입자 개념으로 비즈니스 모델에 대한 재해석이 필요함을 강조한다. 비즈니스에 대한 근본적인 변화 없이 네트워크의 특성만을 이용하고자 하는 기업들은 고객의 니즈를 잃어버리는 구조적 관성에 빠질 수 있다. 하지만, 사례 기업은 고객이 원하는 가치가 무엇인가에 주목하였으며, 이를 통해 고객을 새로운 네트워크 가입자의 개념으로 살펴봄으로써 기존 비즈니스 모델을 새롭게 변화시키고 나아가 기업간 관계 형태를 변화시켰다. 본 연구에서는 사례분석을 통해 네트워크 관점에서 비즈니스 모델의 변화과정 및 가치곡선과 고객경험사이클을 적용하여 이에 따른 성과를 설명함으로써 네트워크 관점에서의 비즈니스 모델에 대한 재해석의 필요성을 제시하였다.

클라우드 컴퓨팅 비즈니스 모델 개발을 위한 프레임워크 설계 (A New Conceptual Framework for Designing Cloud Computing Business Model)

  • In this paper, we develop a new conceptual framework for finding new business opportunities in the cloud computing environment. We propose a service model framework for cloud computing business. In the service concept of the proposed business model, we categorize customer needs and service offering value, while we analyze customer behavior for developing revenue model. In addition, we analyze cloud computing market drivers for finding an evolution path of the proposed business model. Finally, we develop cloud computing business strategies for Korean IT service industry.

인터넷 접속서비스 사업의 수익관리모형에 관한 연구 (Revenue Management Model for Internet Access Service)

  • The concept of revenue management have been used widely In the hotel and all transportation industries, and considered as a good system for managing a perishable asset. Recently, its' application area is being increasingly expanded to service industries such as the travel, the railway, the Internet and the sport industries. Internet business can be classified into several groups according to the characteristics of the individual business. One of groups is Internet Access Servoce business which connects each users to the internet. In this paper, since internet Access Services (IAS) business has a similar property to the service Industry, we will apply a revenue management concept to It. With some modification of existing model developed by Subramanian et.al. for airlines, we suggest the revenue management model being applied to IAS business. Computational experiment shows that the Increase of the revenue Is up to 7% by appluing our model. It means our model has a potential to manage IAS business effectively.

  • 본 연구는 정부의 정책패러다임이 '질 좋은 창업' 으로 이행되고 있는 추세 속에, 질 좋은 창업의 개념 정립을 시도하고 이를 통해 질 좋은 창업이 창출 될 수 있는 서식지 모형을 제시하고 있다. 연구결과, '질 좋은 창업' 에 대한 직설적 논의는 정책적으로는 태동하였지만 이론적으로는 아직 충분하지 않은 것으로 조사되었다. 본 연구는 기존의 성공창업에 대한 연구는 부분적으로 진행 된 바 이러한 선행연구를 참조하고 미국의 대학창업교육 현황 분석을 통해 질 좋은 창업의 개념을 이론적으로 정립하고 이의 달성조건을 모형으로 제시하였다. '질 좋은 창업' 달성 모형 핵심은 질 좋은 창업성립요소 확보, 이의 혼합을 통한 준비과정, 그리고 이의 실행을 주도하고 지원하는 실행생태계였다. 이러한 모형은 이미 미국 대학교육에서 방대하게 실행되고 있다. 특히 미국 노스캐롤라이나주립대의 TEC 프로그램 사례분석을 통해 이를 검증한 '질 좋은 창업육성 시스템' 을 제안하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 기업에서 서비스 상품의 개발 프로세스를 수행하는 과정에서 서비스 설계에 적용되는 서비스 컨셉의 개념을 고찰하였다. 서비스 컨셉은 전략적인 새로운 서비스 개발이나 서비스의 리모델링 작업 등의 계획 단계에서 의사결정에 관하여 중요한 역할을 하게 된다. 특히 다양한 서비스 요소들의 결합을 통해서 서비스전달시스템의 최적화된 운영계획을 수립하거나 또는 서비스 회복 등을 다루는데도 유용한 개념이며, 서비스 컨셉의 결과를 통해서 개발대상 서비스 상품에 대한 고객의 수용성과 비즈니스 모델로서의 성공가능성을 평가하는데 중요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 서비스 개발의 전반적인 과정에서 서비스 컨셉을 적용하는 모델과, 설계과정에서의 서비스 컨셉을 평가할 수 있는 모형을 제시하였다.

  • New product concept evaluation is one of the most important activities among many possible evaluation activities involved in the whole new product process. This paper aims at exploring the applicability of the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) to this new product concept evaluation. To this aim, an AHP based concept evaluation model was formulated and explained using an illustrative example. A number of issues were also raised and discussed concerning the applicability of AHP to out problem. Finally, some further research areas were identified.

  • This study examines the determinant influence of competence: motives, traits, self-concept, knowledge, and skills on work behavior and work effectiveness in government officials. The research was conducted on government officials in the province of South Kalimantan, Indonesia. This research is qualitative in nature, including the population of government apparatus in regencies and municipalities in the South Kalimantan province of Indonesia. The number of respondents in this study was 250 people. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, and Data analysis has been done using Structural Equation Model (SEM). The results showed a significant and positive influence on the determinants of competence, namely motives, traits, self-concept, knowledge, and skills on work behavior and work effectiveness of government officials; the determinant influence of competence showed a direct and indirect effect. This study also shows a mediating effect of work behavior between the determinants of competence (motives, traits, self-concept, knowledge, and skills) on the work effectiveness of government officials. This study's results are expected to provide suggestions to local governments in the South Kalimantan province of Indonesia to conduct performance appraisals for government officials apart from the performance appraisal methods that have been implemented.
