  • One of the most difficult problems in building a distributed GIS lies in the heterogeneity of spatial databases. In particular, positional mismatches between spatial databases, which arise due to several reasons, may incur incorrect query results. They result in unreliable outputs of query processing. One simple solution is to correct positional data in spatial databases at each site, according to the most accurate one. This solution is however not practical in cases where the autonomy of each database should be respected. In this paper, we propose a spatial query processing method without correcting positional data in each spatial database. Instead of correcting positional data, we dynamically transform a given query region or position onto each space where spatial objects of each site are located. Our proposed method is based on an elastic transformation method by using delaunay triangulation. Accuracy of this method is proved mathematically, and is confirmed by an experiment. Moreover, we implemented using common use database system for usefulness verification of this method.

  • Currently, there is database for per unit requirements of major construction materials in terms of energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission based on the input-output table published by the Bank of Korea in 2000, but no database for per unit requirements based on input-output tables was published in 2005 and 2007. The purpose of this study was to calculate the unit requirement values of major construction materials in terms of energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission generated by using the input-output tables published in 2005 and 2007. To estimate the unit requirement values, a database building method with the input-output tables was adopted by selecting 16 types of construction materials in wide use on construction sites. When the study results were compared with existing unit requirement values based on the input-output table of 2000, there were small discrepancies, from which it can be interpreted that the method used in the study is reasonable. Unit requirement values estimated based on input-output tables of 2005 and 2007 tended to decrease, and the highest value of energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission were found in the materials using cement and rebar.

  • Although people's anxiety about the environmental problem has been getting higher, they are not provided good quality of knowledge about the environment. Based on this situation, Ecoblog can be a new type of online community to educate the public in ecological knowledge. Especially, Ecoblog can be utilized as a method of "preventive education", and it will contribute to reduce great amounts of environmental budget to restore contaminated environment to previous condition. Ecoblog also utilizes the concept of blog which user can create and append their site with chosen themes. A weblog or a blog is a non-commercial webpage regularly updated through the use of a blogging software which allows the user to "publish" kinds of amalgamations of text and graphics to the page as posts. The technology offered in Ecoblog is utilizing the concept of 4D place and game metaphor in order to provide users the sense of participation, interaction and immersion among them and the growing community. Thus, it requires applying the CAAD technology by implementing semantically well-defined building data model as a core database to create a 4D virtual community. This research focuses on defining a 4d spatial framework suitable for developing an online ecological community. Through our study, the state-of-the-art of online community has been studied at the first step. Second, the scenario of using EcoBlog described with content, visualization and navigation are defined based on the critical features derived at the first step. Finally, a 4d spatial framework composed of semantic building data model, content and rule database is constructed to propose factors that are necessary to establish an ecological virtual community. In conclusion, our framework could enhance the comprehension and interaction between users and virtual buildings in the ecological community by integrating the concept of game design, 4D CAD and semantic data model. Such framework can be applied to any online community for an educational purpose.

  • The building construction projects include a variety of risk factors due to uncertainties. To succeed in the projects, it is important how risks are managed. Risk management is composed of identification, analysis and response. Especially, the risk analysis is important to objectively calculate significance of risk factors. This paper evaluates a method to find priorities of risks using the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process). The method has some defects; (1) the consistency becomes weak as the number of pair-wise compared risks is large, and (2) the input and output procedures are complex when risks are added to or removed from a risk database. Thus the paper adopts the PROMETHEE(Preference Ranking Organization METHod Enrichment Evaluations) analysis process which is able to overcome the limitation of the AHP restricted to 9 risk factors. The PROMETHEE makes the procedure of risk analysis simple, when the risk factors pull out and put in the risk database. The purpose of this study is to provide process of risk analysis to use the PROMETHEE.

  • Asbestos have been used around the world because of reliable and cost-effective physicochemical characteristics. After incubation period about 15-40 years asbestos can cause various cancers, including malignant mesothelioma when inhaled into the air. These properties turned out, asbestos have been banned from using in developed countries. Also in Korea also, the use of asbestos was banned across the board by revision of Industry Safety and Health Act in February 2009. Therefore, the problem of asbestos is not when using. It is about dismantling, maintenance, and the final processing of asbestos waste. Asbestos Cement slates which is Widely distributed throughout the country as roofing materials has much scattering potential compare with inside materials. Also Ministry of Environment is planning to introduce legislation 'Asbestos Safety Management Act' through Environment Announcement and The same Act. 24 show as follows. Minister of Environment or governor should do survey on the actual condition targeting rural buildings with slates and partly or fully fund to dissolve, remove asbestos slate which was used in each buildings. Therefore, to solve these problems, database-building and necessity of management strategies have been continually arisen. So this study was performed. Its application value is very high in terms of its political, economic. Asbestos Cement Slates database could build to collect national registered building data and then using GIS, asbestos cement Slates distribution map were constructed in each province's cities and counties of the country. And this map by Application, construction was to visualize by application, construction of year. Through these results, information of Asbestos Cement Slates could visually inform to policy makers, asbestos dismantling and management contractor, and civilian and it would alleviate the gap of knowledge information. • In the casting industry field, a lot of researches have been carried out to maximize soundness and productivity and improve quality of mass produced products. The researches on the optimum mould design by using computer simulation have achieved a lot of accomplishments in the die-casting process especially. Their results are utilized to mass-produce sound products in their field. But there are some difficulties to use the simulation in order to make the design of product and mould. In general, repetitive calculations of computer simulation require much analyzing time in order to make sound design of them. Another difficulty is that only expertise technicians can analyze results of the simulation. In order to solve such a problem, we are building mould design optimization system which consists of knowledge-based module, simulation, optimization module and interactive modeler(it is based on the commercial modeler). By using and interacting between these modules of that system, we can easily make an optimum design of mould and construct the database. This study introduce the general process of the system and connection method between the modules is mentioned above and some examples to apply it to real product.

  • In this paper, a design process is established by integrating aviation safety requirements for the development of general aviation aircraft. An Airworthiness-Design Integration System, which integrates certification requirements with the entire design/analysis process, is developed and presented. For the proposed system, KAS 23/FAR 23/AC 23/CS 23 certification regulations are analyzed to determine design constraints and system compliance checks and to construct an ER&G (Engineering Requirement and Guide) and a Design-Certification Related Table (DCRT). Furthermore, through building a DB (Data Base), the management of design and certification related resources for developing a FAR 23 class aircraft are made. Certification tools and resources are also efficiently managed by the DB. The connection between the certification requirements and the detailed design process is proposed in this system. Tracking of this proposed method is validated by configuring a USE CASE and a system. The Airworthiness-Design Integration system will be constructed based on the system's design plan, certification system, and usage scenarios.

  • This paper presents Neuro-Fuzzy (NF) based empirical modelling of torsional strength of RC beams for the first time in literature. The proposed model is based on fuzzy rules. The experimental database used for NF modelling is collected from the literature consisting of 76 RC beam tests. The input variables in the developed rule based on NF model are cross-sectional area of beams, dimensions of closed stirrups, spacing of stirrups, cross-sectional area of one-leg of closed stirrup, yield strength of stirrup and longitudinal reinforcement, steel ratio of stirrups, steel ratio of longitudinal reinforcement and concrete compressive strength. According to the selected variables, the formulated NFs were trained by using 60 of the 76 sample beams. Then, the method was tested with the other 16 sample beams. The accuracy rates were found to be about 96% for total set. The performance of accuracy of proposed NF model is furthermore compared with existing design codes by using the same database and found to be by far more accurate. The use of NF provided an alternative way for estimating the torsional strength of RC beams. The outcomes of this study are quite satisfactory which may serve NF approach to be widely used in further applications in the field of reinforced concrete structures.
