Annual Energy Performance Evaluation of Zero Energy House Using Metering Data (실측데이터를 이용한 에너지제로주택의 연간 에너지성능평가)

  • Purpose: In this study, we evaluate the annual energy performance of the detached house which was designed with the aim of zero energy. Method: The experimental house which was constructed in Gonju Chungnam in 2013, is the single family detached house of light weight wood frame with $100m^2$ of heating area. Thermal transmittance of roof (by ISO 10211) and building external walls are designed as $0.10W/m^2K$ and $0.14W/m^2$ respectively and low-e coating vacuum window glazing with PVC frame was installed. Also grid connected PV system and natural-circulation solar water heater was applied and 6kWp capacity of photovoltaic module was installed in pitched roof and $5m^2$ of solar collector in vertical wall facing the south. We analyzed the 2014 annual data of the detached house in which residents were actually living, measured though web-based remote monitoring system. Result: First, as a result, total annual energy consumption and energy production (PV generation and solar hot water) are 7,919kWh and 7,689kWh respectively and the rate of energy independence is 97.1% which is almost close to the zero energy. Second, plug load and hot water of energy consumption by category showed the highest numbers each with 33% and 31%, with following space heating 24%, electric cooker 8%, lighting 3% in order. Hot water supply is relatively higher than space heating because high insulation makes it decreased.

Selection and Strategies of New Leading Businesses in International Construction Market (해외건설시장의 신성장동력 공종선정 및 진출전략 도출)

  • As the international construction market is rapidly expanding, Korean contractors have the need for having new leading businesses for their sustainable growth and high performance. Thus, this research tried to explore new leading businesses with two questions: 'What can be the new leading businesses?' and 'How can Korean contractors implement new leading businesses?' To this end, based on Porter's five forces framework and the resource-based view (RBV), we first derive three evaluation criteria (possibility of market entry, possibility of profit earning, and possibility of value-added earning). Next, we developed a framework for business evaluation which considers external market condition, internal competitiveness, and spin-off effects toward domestic market. Based on the framework, we defined green-energy plant, environmental plant, desalination plant, nuclear power plant, new urban development, and high-rise building as new leading business. Then, we selected green energy plant, environmental plant, and new urban development for the purpose of prior occupation of the market, consolidation of the competitiveness, and expansion of the ripple effect, respectively. Finally, we deduced market entry strategies for each business by investigating experts' opinions.

Distribution of Wind Pressure on Claddings of Apartment Buildings Affected by Neighboring Buildings (아파트 건축물 군(群)에 의한 건축물 외장재의 풍압분포)

  • This paper presents wind pressure distribution on high-rise apartment buildings through wind-tunnel tests. In order to investigate wind-induced interference efforts on building claddings an apartment complex, which was damaged on the claddings during typhoon attack, was exampled and constructed as a scaled model. A series of wind tunnel tests using pressure models were performed in a boundary layer wind tunnel. The test results with and without interfering buildings were compared and discussed. It is observed that the wind pressure on buildings 105 and 106 with surrounding buildings shows highly negative, while the pressure without surrounding buildings were positive. Therefore the wind-induced interference effects should be taken into account in the design of claddings through wind-tunnel tests.

A Basic Study on Safe Mooring Guide for Dangerous Goods Berths in Ul-San Port (울산항 위험물 부두의 안전계류에 관한 기초연구)

  • This study analyzed the state of the vessels which were using the berth for dangerous goods more than its carrying capacity in the major dangerous cargo handling port of Ulsan in Korea, The result of the analysis showed that a ship which has 3 times more than the maximum berthing capacity was moored at berth. Accordingly, a simulation model for 50,000 DWT berth was built and carried out the mooring safety analysis with 50,000 DWT, 70,000 DWT and 100,000 DWT vessels by mooring assessment program. The evaluation was carried out according to the standard environment presented in OCIMF standards. 50,000 DWT vessel was evaluated to meet the acceptable criteria but, 70,000 DWT and 100,000 DWT vessels exceeded the acceptable limit as per external conditions. Consequently, safe mooring guidelines were suggested and also proposed the building of common 'Mooring safety guideline' for port with assessment of different cases.

Hong Kong Chinese Women's Lay Beliefs about Cervical Cancer Causation and Prevention

  • Background: This study aimed to seek insights into Chinese women's lay beliefs about cervical cancer causal attributions and prevention. Materials and Methods: Twenty-three new immigrant adult women from Mainland China and thirty-five Hong Kong adult women underwent semi-structured in-depth interviews. Interviews were audio taped, transcribed and analyzed using a Grounded Theory approach. Results: This study generated three foci: causal beliefs about cervical cancer, perceived risk of cervical cancer, and beliefs about cervical cancer prevention. Personal risky practices, contaminated food and environment pollution were perceived as the primary causes of cervical cancer. New immigrant women more likely attributed cervical cancer to external factors. Most participants perceived cervical cancer as an important common fatal female cancer with increased risk/prevalence. Many participants, particularly new immigrant women participants, expressed helplessness about cervical cancer prevention due to lack of knowledge of prevention, it being perceived as beyond individual control. Many new immigrant participants had never undergone regular cervical screening while almost all Hong Kong participants had done so. Conclusions: Some Chinese women hold pessimistic beliefs about cervical cancer prevention with inadequate knowledge about risk factors. Future cervical cancer prevention programs should provide more information and include capacity building to increase Chinese women's knowledge and self-efficacy towards cervical cancer prevention.

  • This study used the characteristics of the knowledge discovery and data mining algorithms to develop tailored hypertension follow up management model - hypertension care predictive model and hypertension care compliance segmentation model - for hypertension management using the Korea National Health Insurance Corporation database(the insureds’ screening and health care benefit data). This study validated the predictive power of data mining algorithms by comparing the performance of logistic regression, decision tree, and ensemble technique. On the basis of internal and external validation, it was found that the model performance of logistic regression method was the best among the above three techniques on hypertension care predictive model and hypertension care compliance segmentation model was developed by Decision tree analysis. This study produced several factors affecting the outbreak of hypertension using screening. It is considered to be a contributing factor towards the nation’s building of a Hypertension follow up Management System in the near future by bringing forth representative results on the rise and care of hypertension.

  • All the phenomena and subjects of nature and society are within correlation interconnection, and they are inseparably connected one another. The elements of this interaction can be found out through the concept of transparency in the space composition of Korean traditional architecture. This study is focusing on the access space, in other words, a gate-house that is a buffer zone playing a process role up to the main space among successive spaces. It was chosen to be the subject of the study since it strengthens convergence into the main building and with the effect connecting spaces, it could show well the spatial possibility of transparency. Besides, the subject of the study is limited to the Moonru Multi roofs that improves the functionality of spaces between gate-houses, and it is intended to progress contents by comparative analysis of two kinds such as Seo Won gate-house and temple gate-house. Korean traditional architecture places emphasis on harmony within the whole spaces. There are intimate relations between surrounding environment, external spaces and internal spaces, and it is important understand the spatial relations according to the shape appearing through interactions of parts in the whole spaces. In conclusion, the Moonru Multi roofs is analyzed with the method of extracting the concept that is contained in the frame of analysis and through ecological views through a visible and structural method. It can be understood what kinds of method for communication were used for ancestors to recognize and use spaces with the deduced concept through the analysis of the Moonru Multi roofs with different character.

  • The latest multi-dimension spatial information technology is emerging its importance as material for carrying out efficient facilities management's supporting business about numerous facilities inside a university, budgeting decision-making supporting business such as operating expenses' budgeting and management, etc. and admission advertisement, etc. Accordingly, the present study selected an optimal location that can maximize spatial utilization of a building to be newly built by constructing multi-dimension spatial information for facilities management of a university, and executed a site suitability analysis according to transfer of a university symbol and a landscape analysis, etc. according to external environment change. As a result, it appeared that the effects such as prevention of duplicate investment and budget saving, etc. due to university's comfortable spatial composition and systematic comprehensive development & budgeting or decision-making support in case of execution, etc. caused by rationalization of facilities plan & management can be maximized.

Three-Dimensional Laboratory Experiments for Tsunami Inundation in a Coastal City (지진해일 범람이 해안도시에 미치는 영향에 대한 3차원 수리모형실험)

  • Laboratory experiments were conducted for tsunami inundation to an urban area with large building roughness. The waterfront portion of the city of Seaside which is located on the US Pacific Northwest coast, was replicated in 1/50 scale in the wave basin. Tsunami heights and velocities on the inundated land were measured at approximately 31 locations for one incident tsunami heights with an inundation height of approximately 10 m (prototype) near the shoreline. The inundation pattern and speed were more severe and faster in some areas due to the arrangement of the large buildings. Momentum fluxes along the roads were estimated using measure tsunami inundation heights and horizontal fluid velocities. As expected, the maximum momentum flux was near the shoreline and decreased landward. Inundation heights and momentum flux were slowly decreased through the road with buildings on each side. The results from this study showed that the horizontal inundation velocity is an important factor for the external force of coastal structures.

A Research on the Establishment of the Medium-term and Long-term Development Plan for Public Libraries in Cheongju City (청주시 공공도서관 중·장기 발전 계획 수립에 관한 고찰)

  • Many local governments in Korea have competitively interested in founding and operating public libraries and carried out various projects for promoting them. Each local government, however, has focused on increasing the number of public libraries, lacking in an effort to enrich the qualitative substance. The purpose of this study is to suggest medium-term and long-term development plan for public libraries in Cheongju by considering internal and external problems of public libraries, and resent government plans for libraries. To identify this purpose, the study investigated the present founding and operating condition of public libraries in Cheongju. In the second, it suggested the medium-term and long-term strategic plans for public libraries in Cheongju using SWOT analysis. In the third, it also reviewed founding and operating changes of public libraries in Cheongju and Cheongwon which were integrated into one city. Lastly, the methods for organizing and operating public libraries in Cheongju were suggested.
