  • The glandular odontogenic cyst is a rare lesion described in 1987. It generally occurs at anterior region of mandible in adults over the age of 40 and has a slight tendency to recur. Histopathologically, a cystic cavity lined by a nonkeratinized, stratified squamous, or cuboidal epithelium varying in thickness is found including a superficial layer with glandular or pseudoglandular structures. A 21-year-old male visited Dankook University Dental Hospital with a chief complaint of swelling of the left posterior mandible. Radiographically, a huge multilocular radiolucent lesion involving impacted 3rd molar at the posterior mandible was observed. Buccolingual cortical expansion with partial perforation of buccal cortical bone was also shown. Histopathologically, this lesion was lined by stratified squamous epithelium with glandular structures in areas of plaque-like thickening. The final diagnosis was made as a glandular odontogenic cyst.

  • Implants are typically placed after performing ridge expansion by inserting screws of gradually increasing thickness and good clinical outcomes are often obtained. We placed 11 implants in 6 patients, and one implant failed during osseointegration but it was replaced immediately after removal and successful prosthetic treatments were completed. During these surgeries, buccal cortical plate complete fractures do not occur. Inserting screws for ridge expansion is a successful and predictable technique for implant placement in narrow alveolar bone.

  • The purpose of this study is to identificate root canal system including ideal access placement, root curvature, canal configuration, incidence of isthmus in mandibular incisors for success of endodontic treatment. 200 mandibular incisors were selected. The ideal access placement was determimed as follows. The teeth were radiographed from mesiodistal and buccolingual views using intraoral dental film. The image was divided into coronal, middle and apical third using the proximal film. Straight line access was determined by measuring the faciolingual canal width and placing points at midway point between the buccal and lingual wall at the junction of the middle and apical third and at the juntion of coronal and middle third of the root canal.(omitted)

  • To evaluate the micro-shear bond strength of current adhesive systems to cervical and mid-coronal enamel. Materials and Two commercially available resin adhesives were investigated; a self-etching primer system(Clearfil SE Bond, Kyraray) and a one-bottle adhesive system(Single Bond, 3M) intended for use with the total-etch wet-bonding technique were employed. Two regions of enamel, cervical and mid-coronal regions, were chosen from the buccal surface of extracted molars and were then bonded with each adhesive system and submitted to the micro-shear bond test.(중략)

  • Flowable and microfill composites have been recommended for Class V cavities. But the use of flowable composites is controversial because of its physical properties. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the microleakage of 6 composites (2 hybrids, 2 microfills, and 2 flowable composites) with/without load cycling. Methods: Notch-shaped Class V cavities were prepared on buccal surfaces of 180 extracted human upper premolars and then divided into non-load cycling group(G1) and load cycling group(G2).(omitted)

  • Microleakage of restorative materials has been investigated mostly by dye penetration method. Dye penetration method was not quantitative and not measured repeatedly. Fluid filtration method was used to research purpose to understand the effects of various restorative treatments on dentin permeability. The purpose of this study was to evaluate of dentin permeability according to the process of compomer restoration treatment. In this study, C1 V cavities were prepared on buccal surface of thirty extracted human molars. The prepared cavities were etched by 37% phosphoric acid.(omitted)

  • The biological father of two Golden Retriever puppies was determined between two proposed stud dogs by using microsatellite DNA analysis. DNA was obtained from all the relevant dogs by buccal swabbing and three loci of tetranucleotide repeat microsatellite were PCR-amplifiedl and analyzed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and silver staining. One of the two proposed stud dogs was assigned as the biological father of the puppies by the genotyping. The result demonstrated that the microsatellite DNA analysis is a simple, efficient method of paternity test in dogs.

  • The purpose of this experiment was to examine the antimicrobial effect of the natural flavonoid hesperidin on dental caries and alveolar bone resorption in the albinorats. Twenty five day old male rats were fed with the experimental diets for 42 days. At the end of the 42 day experimental period, the molar tooth occlusal surface was examined by a dissecting microscope. The sulcular caries lesions were recorded: the first molar caries incidence was higher than that of the second molar and the third molar. Alvelolar bone resorption was measured on the buccal and lingual aspects of each molars. Three measurements were taken on the first molar (mesialpoint, midpoint, distalpoint). The results of this experiments, showed that hesperidin is effective in reducing dental caries and alveolar bone resorption.

  • Two marine hypotrichous ciliates, Anteholosticha petzi and Ponturostyla enigmatica, were collected from the Yellow Sea and the Korea Strait, respectively, and described using live observation and protargol-impregnated specimens. Furthermore, the nuclear small subunit ribosomal RNA gene of each was sequenced and compared to previously annotated sequences retrieved from the GenBank. Anteholosticha petzi is characterized by 3 frontal cirri (FC), 2 frontoterminal cirri (FTC), 8-12 transverse cirri (TC), 1 buccal cirrus (BC), 9-12 midventral pairs (MP), 3 bipolar dorsal kineties (DK), and 3 types of colorless cortical granules. Ponturostyla enigmatica is characterized by 8 FC, 5 ventral cirri (VC), 5-7 TC, 6-7 marginal rows (MR) on each side, 4 complete and 2-3 partial DK, and greenish cortical granules. This is the first identification and description of these 2 species, A. petzi and P. enigmatica, in South Korea.
