This study presents the development of an integrated oil purification system consisting of moisture removal, oil flushing, and oil filtering devices. In this system, the oil flushing device is combined with a micro-bubble generator. Oil purification is necessary for ensuring the high performance of the lubricant through the efficient removal of contaminants and thus enables good maintenance of mechanical systems. The developed purification system removes moisture, varnish, and solid particles. Moreover, during oil purification, the oil flushing device separates foreign materials and contaminants remaining in the lubricating oil piping or mechanical systems. The microbubble generator, which is combined with the oil flushing device, can separate harmful contaminants, such as sludge, wear particles, and rust, from piping or lubrication systems through the cavitation effect. Moisture is removed using a double high-vacuum chamber, while sludge and varnish are removed via electro-absorption using a high-voltage generator. Additionally, the total maintenance cost of the system is reduced through the use of domestically fabricated cartridge filters composed of glass fiber and cellulose. The heater, which maintains the temperature of the lubricant at 60℃, can process 41,000 L of lubricant simultaneously. Multiple tests confirmed that the proposed integrated purification system exhibits good performance in oil flushing and removal of water and varnish.
The objectives of this study are to examine the processing of oils contamination soil by means of using a micronano-bubble soil washing system, to investigate the various factors such as washing periods, the amount of micro-nano bubbles generated depending on the quantity of acid injection and quantity of air injection, to examine the features involved in the elimination of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) contained in the soil, and thus to evaluate the possibility of practical application on the field for the economic feasibility. The oils contaminated soil used in this study was collected from the 0~15 cm surface layer of an automobile junkyard located in U City. The collected soil was air-dried for 24 hours, and then the large particles and other substances contained in the soil were eliminated and filtered through sieve No.10 (2 mm) to secure consistency in the samples. The TPH concentration of the contaminated soil was found to be 4,914~5,998 mg/kg. The micronano-bubble soil washing system consists of the reactor, the flow equalization tank, the micronano- bubble generator, the pump and the strainer, and was manufactured with stainless material for withstanding acidic phase. When the injected air flow rate was fixed at 2 L/min, for each hydrogen peroxide concentrations (5, 10, 15%) the removal percents for TPH within the contaminated soil with retention times of 30 minutes were respectively identified as 4,931 mg/kg (18.9%), 4,678 mg/kg (18.9%) and, 4,513 mg/kg (17.7%). And when the injected air flow rate was fixed at 2 L/min, for each hydrogen peroxide concentrations (5, 10, 15%) the removal percents for TPH within the contaminated soil with retention times of 120 minutes were respectively identified as4,256 mg/kg (22.3%), 4,621 mg/kg (19.7%) and 4,268 mg/kg (25.9%).

As the fabrication technology of LCDs (Liquid Crystal Displays) advances, the size of mother glass substrates is getting larger, and the fabrication process is becoming finer. Accordingly, the importance of cleaning processes grows in the fabrication process of LCDs. In this study, we have compared and evaluated the particle removal efficiency for three different methods of physical cleaning, which are brush, bubble jet, and aqua/air cleaning. Using the seventh generation glass substrate, the particle removal efficiency has been investigated by changing operation conditions such as a flow rate of deionized water, pressure, contact depth between a brush bristle and a glass substrate, and so forth. In the case of brush cleaning, the cleaning efficiency barely changes after a critical point when the contact depth is varied. While the cleaning efficiency of bubble jet cleaning is almost independent of pressure, that of aqua/air cleaning is affected by pressure up to a critical point, but is not changed after it. We note the brush cleaning is the most effective among the three cleaning methods under our experimental conditions.

In this paper, we present a particle-grid blending framework based on a geometric approach to efficiently represent opaque ice spheres with air bubbles. The water temperature is diffused through the grid and the air bubbles represented inside the ice through the particles. To solve the problem of previous methods that generate noisy dissolved air fields, we use levelsets to lighten the algorithm, i.e., the number of active particles and the initial amount of dissolved oxygen can be used to efficiently control the termination conditions of heat diffusion. We also extend the previous dissolved air field method, which only computes near air bubbles, to transparent regions to represent realistic ice spheres, and introduce a levelset-based approach to accurately compute the orientation of particles. As a result, the method presented in this paper is about three times faster than the existing methods and shows visually improved visualization of opaque ice spheres, which can be used in the field of representing physical virtual ice forms.
Electroflotation, which is used as an alternative to sedimentation, is a separation treatment process that uses small bubbles to remove low-density particulates. Making allowances for recent collision efficiency diagram based on trajectory analysis, it is necessary to tailor zeta potential of bubbles that collide with negatively charged particles. In this paper, the study was performed to investigate the effects of magnesium and aluminium ions on zeta potential of bubbles. And, it was studied to find out factors which could affect the positively charged bubbles. Consequently, zeta potential of bubbles increased both with higher concentration of metal ions and in the acidic pH value. And, a probable principle that explained the procedure of charge reversal could be a combined mechanism with both specific adsorption of hydroxylated species and laying down of hydroxide precipitate. It also depended on the metal ion concentration in the solution to display its capacity to control the bubble surface.
The characteristics of flow and heat transfer in a bubbling fluidized bed are investigated by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). To simulate two-phase flow for the gas and solid flows, Eulerian-Eulerian approach is applied. Attention is paid for a heat transfer from the wall to fluidized bed by bubbling motion of the flow. From the result, it is confirmed that heat transfer is promoted by chaotic bubbling motion of the flow by enhancement of mixing among solid particles. In particular, the vortical flow motion around gas bubble plays an important role for the mixing and consequent heat transfer. Discussion is made for the time and space averaged Nusselt number which shows peculiar characteristics corresponding to different flow regimes.
Direct numerical simulation is conducted to observe the behavior of microbubbles in isotropic turbulence. Navier-Stokes equation and the motion of equation for microbubbles are solved with periodic boundary condition in a cube domain. Vorticity contour, enstrophy ratio, relative reduction of bubble rise velocity, and the closest distance of particles are investigated for various Stokes numbers and gravity factors to understand clustering of microbubbles. Also, clustering due to the effect of the lift force is investigated.
Many plants have been improved to adapt the target of the biological treatment processes changed from organics to nutrients since the water quality criteria of effluent was reinforced and included T-N and T-P for the municipal wastewater treatment plant. To meet the criteria of T-N and T-P, the conventional biological reactor such as aeration tank in activated sludge system is changed to the BNR (biological nutrient removal) processes, which are typically divided into three units as anaerobic, anoxic and oxic tank. Therefore, the solid separation process should be redesigned to fit the BNR processes in case of the application of the DAF (dissolved air flotation) process as an alternatives because the solid-liquid separation characteristics of microbial flocs produced in the BNR processes are also different from that of activated sludge system as well. The results of this study revealed that the microbial floc of the anaerobic tank was the hardest to be separated among the three steps of the unit tanks for the BNR processes. On the contrary, the oxic tank was best for the removal efficiency of nutrients as well as suspended solid. In addition, the removal efficiency of nutrients was much improved under the chemical coagulation treatment though coagulation was not indispensable with a respect to the solid separation. On the other hand, in spited that the separation time for the microbial floc from the BNR processes were similar to the typical particles like clay flocs, over $2.32{\times}10^3$ ppm of air volume concentration was required to keep back the break-up of the bubble-floc agglomerates.

Since Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is normally carried at 1.1 bar pressure and at -163℃, special Cargo Containment System (CCS) are used. As LNG carrier is becoming larger, typical LNG insulation systems adopt a method to increase the thickness of insulation panel to reduce sloshing load and Boil-off Rate (BOR). However, this will decrease LNG cargo volume and increase insulation material costs. In this paper, silica aerogel, glass bubble were synthesized in polyurethane foam to increase volumetric efficiency by improving mechanical and thermal performance of insulation. In order to increase dispersibility of particles, ultrasonic dispersion was used. Dynamic impact test, quasi-static compression test at room temperature (20℃) and cryogenic temperature (-163℃) was evaluated. To evaluate the thermal performance, the thermal conductivity at room temperature (20℃) was measured. As a result, specimens without ultrasonic dispersion have a little effect on strength under the compressive load, although they show high mechanical performance under the impact load. In contrast, specimens with ultrasonic dispersion have significantly increased impact strength and compressive strength. Recently, as the density of Polyurethane foam (PUF) has been increasing, these results can be a method for improving the mechanical and thermal performance of insulation panel.

New and renewable energy sources have drawn attention because of climate change. Many studies have been carried out in waste-to-energy field. Fast pyrolysis of waste lignocelluosic biomass is one of the waste-to-energy technologies. Bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) reactor is widely used for fast pyrolysis of the biomass. In BFB pyrolyzer, bubble behavior influences on the chemical reaction. Accordingly, in the present study, hydrodynamic characteristics and fast pyrolysis reaction of waste lignocellulosic biomass occurring in a BFB pyrolyzer are scrutinized. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation of the fast pyrolysis reactor is carried out by using Eulerian-Granular approach. And two-stage semi-global kinetics is applied for modeling the fast pyrolysis reaction of waste lignocellulosic biomass. To summarize, generation and ascendant motion of bubbles in the bed affect particle behavior. Thus biomass particles are well mixed with hot sand and consequent rapid heat transfer occurs from sand to biomass particles. As a result, primary reaction is observed throughout the bed. And reaction rate of tar formation is the highest. Consequently, tar accounts for 66wt.% of the product gas. However, secondary reaction occurs mostly in the freeboard. Therefore, it is considered that bubble behavior and particle motions hardly influences on the secondary reaction.
