  • Five freshwater harpacticoid species of the genus Bryocamptus are identified as one of the serial taxonomic studies on the family Canthocamptidae in South Korea: B, zschokkei caucasicus (Borutzky, 1930), B. nivalis (Willey, 1925), B, pacificus Ishida, 1992, B. vejdovskyi (Mrazek, 1893) and B. umiatensis Wilson, 1958. Bryocamptus pacificus, B. vedjovskyi and B. umiatensis are newly known from Korea. A key to the species of the genus Bryocamptus in Korea is provided.

  • Material of a Bryocamptus species, formerly reported as B. umiatensis Wilson, 1958 from Sakhalin and South Korea, is here recognized as a distinct new species. Specimens of both sexes were recently obtained from an alpine wetland, Sumeunmulbaengdui, located in the Hallasan National Park, Korea, and newly registered as a Ramsar Wetland in 2015. The new species, B. jejuensis n. sp., differs from the type population of B. umiatensis from Alaska by the smooth margin of the anal operculum in both sexes, the peculiarly modified terminal seta on the distal endopodal segment of the male leg 3, the sword-like spinous seta on the distal endopodal segment of the male leg 4, and the presence of a setule row on the inner distal margin of the caudal rami in the female. Both sexes of the new species are described in detail with particular reference to the male characters. A revised key to the seven species of the genus Bryocamptus Chappuis, 1929 occurring in Korean waters is provided.

  • In order to clarify the species composition of freshwater zooplankton community inhabiting Lake Sochonji and chonji on the top of Mt. Paektu, the present study have been carried out based on the materials collected during the periods from 24 to 25 July, 1997. As a result of examing the specimens, from the Lake Chonji, a total of 10 species (Keratella cochlearis cochlearis, K. quadrata quadrata, K. valga valga, Notholca squmula squmula, Colurella adriatica adriatica, Lepadella patella patella, Lecane hua luna, L. (Monostyla) bulla bulla, Cephalodella gibba gibba, philodina roseola) appeared rotifers only. >From the lake Sochonji, a total of 7 species were identified. It consists of 3 species (Keratella valga valga, Cephalodella gibba gibba, Asplanchna (Asplanchnella) brightwelli) of rotifers, 2 species (Daphnia hyalina, Alona quadrangularis) of cladocerans, and 2 species (Acanthodiaptomus pacificus, Bryocamptus zschokkei caucassicus) of copepods, respectively. Also, appeared nauplius of copepoda.
