  • The gain-clamped EDFA has been developed to eliminate the output power change of WDM surving channels to occur with added or dropped channels, which degrades the performance of WDM optical network. It maintains the constant gain of surviving channels when WDM channels are added or dropped in a network amplifying node. In this paper, the bi-directionally pumped gain-clamped EDFA is implemented to compensate the change of the input power by a lasing. The results show that the lasing of a short wavelength and backward propagation is the optimal condition to minimize the transient response of surviving channels in terms of the overshoot and gain saturation due to the inhomogeneous broadening effect.

  • This paper describes a pseudo-random carrier PW technique for the power converters. The proposed method generates a new pseudo-random carrier by randomly composing a carrier with fixed frequency and a carrier with opposition phase. To confirm the validity of the proposed method, a single-phase multi-level inverter was implemented and tested. The experimental results show that the output voltage and current harmonics spectra of an inverter have broadening effect of harmonics, as only simple composition of fixed frequency carries.

  • In this work, Zinc ferrite nanoparticles have been prepared by various methods, conventional (ZC), mechanochemical processing (ZM) and Sol-Gel (ZS) method, to compare their structural and magnetic properties. The cation distribution obtained from XRD shows the degrees of inversions are 4%, 14.8%, and 16.4% from the normal $ZnFe_2O_4$ structure. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) confirms changes in cation distribution of $ZnFe_2O_4$ fabricated by sol-gel and mechanochemical processing. The $^{57}Fe$ M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectra of the samples were recorded at room temperature. The spectra exhibit a line broadening. The magnetic properties of the samples were studied by vibration sample magnetometer (VSM) at room temperature and the results show that the sample ZM has ferrimagnetic behaviour.

  • We present a spectrum broadening technique to improve the signal-to-noise ratio of spectrum sliced incoherent light sources using the fiber four-wave mixing effect which occurs in a nonlinear loop mirror located at the receiver. The initial transmission channel bandwidth of 0.92 nm was increased to 1.62 nm in the nonlinear loop mirror at the optical receiver, which enhances the signal-to-noise ratio to a desired value. Using this technique, we have demonstrated the transmission of a 2.5 Gb/s NRZ signal with the 0.92 nm bandwidth through a 80 km dispersion-shifted fiber. The measured transmission penalty was less than 0.2 dB at $1{\imes}10^{-10}$ BER.

  • A compact size microstrip antenna element using FR-4 substrate is proposed for use in repeater and base stations. Two stacked patches are aperture-coupled by two split feedlines. Rectangular stubs on the split feedlines are laid under the aperture and have the effect of considerably lowing the magnitude of $S_{11}$ [dB] and broadening impedance bandwidth. The designed structure has been fabricated and measured. Based on 20 dB, the return loss bandwidth is about 16.8% (1.86 GHz~2.20 GHz), which covers the frequency range assigned for IMT-2000 with a large margin. The overall dimension of the proposed antenna structure is 37 mm$\times$41 mm$\times$19mm (very compact). The antenna gain is more than 7.5 dBi over the required frequency range.

  • This paper describes a simple pseudo-random carrier modulation technique for the acoustic noise reduction of the three phase multi-level inverter based motor drives. The proposed method generates a new pseudo-random carrier by randomly synthesizing a carrier with fixed frequency and a carrier with opposition phase. To confirm the validity of the proposed method, a 130v three-phase multi-level inverter was Implemented and tested. The experimental results show that the output line voltage and acoustic noise harmonics spectra of an inverter have broadening effect of harmonics, as only simple synthesis of fixed frequency carries.

  • This paper describes the acoustic noise spectra of the pseudo-random carrier modulation technique according to the different PRBS(Pseudo Random Binary Sequence) bits. To confirm the validity of the proposed method, a 130v three-phase 5-level inverter motor drives was implemented. The harmonics spectra broadening effect of pseudo random carrier and the acoustic noise radiated from the inverter drives were discussed and verified according to the different bits of shift resister operating as PRBS.

  • Two-dimensional (2D) correlation method, which generates the synchronous and the asynchronous 2D spectrum by complex cross correlation of the Fourier transformed spectra, is an analysis method for the changes of the sample spectrum induced by vari ous perturbations. In the present work, the 2D electronic correlation spectra have been simulated for the cases where the sample spectrum composed of two gaussian bands changes linearly. When only the band amplitudes of the sample spectrum change, the synchronous spectrum shows strong peaks at the band centers of the sample spectrum, but the asynchronous spectrum does not make peaks. When the sample spectrum shifts without changing intensity and width, the synchronous spectrum shows peaks around the initial and final positions of the band maximum and the asynchronous spectrum shows long peaks spanning the shifting range. The band width change produces the complex 2D correlation spectra. When the sample spectrum shifts with band broadening, the width change by 50% of full width at half maximum (FWHM) does not give so large an effect on the correlation spectrum as the spectral shift by one half of FWHM of the sample spectrum.

  • We accomplished numerical simulations for two-uniform-fiber concatenation with both polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and polarization-dependent loss (PDL) . The effective overall PMD is increased with the chirp parameter and the effective overall PDL is decreased with the chirp parameter. For PDL, chirping just makes the signal bandwidth wider, so makes the pulse be more depolarized than a chirp-free pulse. We showed that PDL increases the frequency dependence of the principal states of polarization, and the combination of this dependency and the bandwidth broadening by chirping can affect the effective PDL.
