  • With the extension of wireless technology, vehicular ad hoc networks provide important services for the dissemination of general data and emergency warnings. However, since, the vehicle topology frequently changes from a dense to a sparse network depending on the speed of the moving vehicles and the time of day, vehicular ad hoc networks require a protocol that can facilitate the efficient and reliable dissemination of emergency messages in a highly mobile environment under dense or intermittent vehicular connectivity. Therefore, this paper proposes a new vehicular broadcast protocol, called BL-CAST, that can operate effectively in both dense and sparse network scenarios. As a low overhead multi-hop broadcast protocol, BL-CAST does not rely on the periodic exchange of beacons for updating location information. Instead, the location information of a vehicle is included in a broadcast message to identify the last rebroadcasting vehicle in an intermittently connected network. Simulation results show that BL-CAST outperforms the DV-CAST protocol in terms of the end-to-end delay, message delivery ratio and network overhead.

  • The wireless transmission medium inherently broadcasts a signal to all neighbor nodes in the transmission range. Existing asynchronous MAC protocols do not provide a concrete solution for reliable broadcast in link layer. This mainly comes from that an omni-directional broadcasting causes to reduce the network performance due to the explosive collisions and contentions. This paper proposes a reliable broadcast protocol in link taller based on directional antennas, named MDB(MAC protocol for Directional Broadcasting). This protocol makes use of DAST(Directional Antennas Statement Table) information and D-MACA(Directional Multiple Access and Collision Avoidance) scheme through 4-way handshake to resolve the many collision problem wit]1 omni-directional antenna. To analyze its performance, MDB protocol is compared with IEEE 802.11 DCF protocol [9] and the protocol 2 of reference [3], in terms of the success rate of broadcast and the collision rate. As a result of performance analysis through simulation, it was confirmed that the collision rate of the MDB protocol is lower than those of IEEE 802.11 and the protocol 2 of reference [3], and that the completion rate of broadcast of MDB protocol is higher than those of IEEE 802.11 and the protocol 2 of reference [3].

  • This paper compares the performance of the unicast routing protocol and the broadcast routing protocol in a small-sized wireless multi-hop network, such as home network. Normally, ad-hoc routing protocols are designed for general wireless multi-hop networks, not being said to be optimized for the small-sized ad hoc network. This paper compares some unicast routing protocols and optimal broadcast routing protocol, and shows the result. The result of the simulation says the broadcast routing protocol shows better performance than the ad-hoc routing protocols in the small-sired wireless multi-hop network. Especially, the result shows that the broadcast protocol has higher packet delivery ratio and lower packet latency than unicast routing protocols

Existing asynchronous MAC protocols do not provide a concrete solution for reliable broadcast in link layer. This mainly comes from that an omnidirectional broadcasting causes to reduce the network performance due to the explosive collisions and contentions. This paper proposes a directional broadcast protocol by using neighborhood information in the link layer based o,1 directional antennas, named MNDB (MAC protocol with Neighborhood for reliable Directional Broadcast). This protocol makes use of neighborhood information and DMACA (Directional Multiple Access and Collision Avoidance) scheme through 4-way handshake to support a reliable directional broadcast. To analyze its performance, MNDB protocol si compared with $RMDB^{[1]}$, the protocol 2 of reference [3], and IEEE 802.11 $protocol^{[9]}$, in terms of the number of collisions, the number of dropped packets, the number of redundant packets, and broadcast delay.

  • Secure multi-party computation (MPC) has been a research focus of cryptography in resent studies. However, hiding the topology of the network in secure computation is a rather novel goal. Inspired by a seminal paper [1], we proposed a topology-hiding broadcast protocol based on NTRUEncrypt and secret sharing. The topology is concealed as long as any part of the network is corrupted. And we also illustrated the merits of our protocol by performance and security analysis.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed the performance of a BRAM (The Broadcasting Recognizing Access Method) protocol, as a CSMA/CA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance) scheme, which is widely used in wireles LAN systems. We have selected a Fair BRAM protocol among CSMA/CA schemes, considering the fairness of channel usage and the simplicity of the protocol. We have compared the performance of BRAM protocol to that of CSMA/CD. to research the characteristics of BRAM in wireless LAN system. In order to analyze the performance of this system, we have set up an imbedded Markov chain and calculated state transition probabilities. Then we have calculated steady state probabilities and finally derived the throughput of a Fair BRAM moder. To verify our analysis, we have simulated practical models. Then, we have found that analytic results are very close to simulation ones. Our analysis of the BRAM protocol will be expected to be very helpful to design and evaluate a MAC (Media Access Control) protocol in wireless LAN systems.

  • BACnet(Building Automation and Control networks) is a standard data communication protocol designed specifically for building automation and control systems. BACnet provides BACnet/IP Protocol for data communication through the internet. BACnet device transmits BACnet broadcast messages and BACnet/IP messages using conventional IP technologies. Specially, BBMD(BACnet Broadcasting Management Device) is used to deliver BACnet broadcast messages. In this study, we propose a mechanism of fault tolerant BBMD in the BACnet/IP protocol. The Fault Tolerant BBMD mechanism(FTBM) improves the connectivity of BACnet/IP networks by inheriting the operation of BBMD in the networks. The FTBM is implemented with added functions to the original BACnet/IP protocol so that it can be applied together with original BACnet/IP devices. We also prove the FTBM's backward compatibility with original BACnet/IP protocol using experimental analysis.

  • Current cellular systems rely on a CBS protocol for emergency alert broadcast services. However, the CBS protocol just specifies the delivery of a limited text message. Therefore, foreigners, who are unfamiliar with local characters, may have some difficulties in understanding the received CBS text message. The CBS protocol also reveals a distinct restriction in delivering abundant information because of a limited number of text characters. In order to overcome the weak points of the current CBS protocol, we propose a display method of image information and URL on the screens of mobile terminals for the received CBS text message in this paper. The presented approach effectively utilizes the message structure of CBS for 5G cellular systems.

  • Korea has launched the world-wide first terrestrial UHD broadcast services on May 31, 2017. While the existing HDTV broadcast services use MPEG-2 TS (Tranport Stream) standard for multiplexing and delivering compressed media with additional data, the terrestrial UHD broadcast services use MMT (MPEG Media Transport) standard, which is the next-generation standard beyond MPEG-2 TS. However, the production cost of UHD contents is so high that only a part of the total broadcast time is filled with UHD contents and the UHD time portion is planned to be gradually increased. On the other hand, the ATSC 3.0 standard that uses MMT is not yet used in full-fledged broadcast services in North America. Hence MMT broadcast equipment is still at an early stage with high prices. In this paper we implemented a multi-thread software running on an ordinary PC that can be utilized to realize a low-cost converter that converts the output of an existing MPEG-2 TS multiplexer to an MMTP (MMT Protocol) packet stream. We also verified the functionality of the software through experiments.
