A Mobile-aware Adaptive Rate Control Scheme for Improving the User Perceived QoS of Multimedia Streaming Services in Wireless Broadband Networks

  • Recently, due to the prevalence of various mobile devices and wireless broadband networks, there has been a significant increase in interest and demand for multimedia streaming services such as the mobile IPTV. In such a wireless broadband network, transmitting a continuous stream of multimedia data is difficult to achieve due to mobile stations (MSs) movement. Providing Quality of Service (QoS) for multimedia video streaming applications requires the server and/or client to be network-aware and adaptive. Therefore, in order to deploy a mobile IPTV service in wireless broadband networks, offering users efficient wireless resource utilization and seamlessly offering user perceived QoS are important issues. In this paper, we propose a new adaptive streaming scheme, called MARC (Mobile-aware Adaptive Rate Control), which adjusts the quality of bit-stream and transmission rate of video streaming based on the wireless channel status and network status. The proposed scheme can control the rate of multimedia streaming to be suitable for the wireless channel status by using awareness information of the wireless channel quality and the mobile station location. The proposed scheme can provide a seamless multimedia playback service in wireless broadband networks in addition to improving the QoS of multimedia streaming services. The proposed MARC scheme alleviates the discontinuity of multimedia playback and allocates a suitable client buffer to the wireless broadband network. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme.

초고속 인터넷 서비스의 선택 만족도에 대한 연구 (Choice Satisfaction of the Broadband Internet Network Services)

  • 본 연구에서는 초고속 인터넷 서비스에 대한 실증분석을 통하여 선택 만족도의 선행 변수에 관해 알아보았다. 초고속 인터넷 서비스를 대상으로 해당 서비스를 이용하고 있는 481명의 설문데이터를 수집하여 분석한 결과, 선택 상황과 관련된 변수들은 선택 만족도에는 영향을 주지만, 서비스 만족도에는 영향을 주지 않는다는 것이 확인되었다. 선택 만족도는 서비스 만족도와 함께 소비자들의 전환의도에는 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났지만, 추천의도에 미치는 영향력은 서비스 만족도 보다 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 본 연구에서는 서비스 만족도와 선택 만족도가 다르게 나타난 소비자 집단에 대해서도 분석하였다. 이러한 결과는 선택 만족도가 서비스 만족도와는 다르게 구별되는 개념이라는 것을 보여준다. 따라서 소비자가 선택 과정이나 선택 결과에 만족하도록 할 수 있다면 마케팅 관리자는 소비자의 충성도를 높일 수 있을 것이다. 마지막으로 이러한 실증분석결과를 토대로 시사점과 향후 연구 방향에 대하여 논의하였다.

Consumer Associative Network Analysis on Device and Service Convergence

  • Our research brings managerial insights for developing new digital convergence of devices and services. To explain the phenomenon of device and service convergence, we combine two different approaches from separate research fields: a perceptual mapping technique generally used for segmentation in marketing and associative network analysis mobilized to understanding network structure of core and peripheral as well as the information mediating role of nodes in network science. By combining these two approaches, we provide an in-depth analysis of the associations among devices and services by assessing the centrality of device and service nodes in an associative network. This is done by examining the connections between these services and devices as well as investigating the role of mediation in the combined device-service associative network. Our results based on bi-partite network analysis of survey responses from 250 Internet Protocol (IP) television viewers show which device and which service will play the major role in future device and service convergence as well as which characteristics and functionalities have to be incorporated into future convergence. Among the devices, the mobile handset with the betweenness centrality of 0.26 appears to be the device that would lead future device convergence. Among the services, wireless broadband with the betweenness centrality of 0.276 appears to be the service on which future service convergence needs to be developed. This result is quite unexpected, since wireless broadband has a lower penetration rate than other services, such as fixed broadband and cable TV. In addition, we indicate the possibility of converging devices, such as personal digital assistant (PDA) and mobile handset, and services, such as IPTV and mobile Internet, into wireless broadband services in the future.

Real-time RL-based 5G Network Slicing Design and Traffic Model Distribution: Implementation for V2X and eMBB Services

  • As 5G mobile systems carry multiple services and applications, numerous user, and application types with varying quality of service requirements inside a single physical network infrastructure are the primary problem in constructing 5G networks. Radio Access Network (RAN) slicing is introduced as a way to solve these challenges. This research focuses on optimizing RAN slices within a singular physical cell for vehicle-to-everything (V2X) and enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) UEs, highlighting the importance of adept resource management and allocation for the evolving landscape of 5G services. We put forth two unique strategies: one being offline network slicing, also referred to as standard network slicing, and the other being Online reinforcement learning (RL) network slicing. Both strategies aim to maximize network efficiency by gathering network model characteristics and augmenting radio resources for eMBB and V2X UEs. When compared to traditional network slicing, RL network slicing shows greater performance in the allocation and utilization of UE resources. These steps are taken to adapt to fluctuating traffic loads using RL strategies, with the ultimate objective of bolstering the efficiency of generic 5G services.

A Secure and Efficient Cloud Resource Allocation Scheme with Trust Evaluation Mechanism Based on Combinatorial Double Auction

  • Cloud computing is a new service to provide dynamic, scalable virtual resource services via the Internet. Cloud market is available to multiple cloud computing resource providers and users communicate with each other and participate in market transactions. However, since cloud computing is facing with more and more security issues, how to complete the allocation process effectively and securely become a problem urgently to be solved. In this paper, we firstly analyze the cloud resource allocation problem and propose a mathematic model based on combinatorial double auction. Secondly, we introduce a trust evaluation mechanism into our model and combine genetic algorithm with simulated annealing algorithm to increase the efficiency and security of cloud service. Finally, by doing the overall simulation, we prove that our model is highly effective in the allocation of cloud resources.

광대역 접속망에서 QoS 구현을 위한 현실적 접근법 (A Practical Approach to Implement QoS in Broadband Access Networks)

  • DSL, 캐이블 모뎀, 그리고 이더넷 기반으로 구축된 대부분의 광대역 접속망은 주로 인터넷 접속 서비스 제공에 활용되고, 최선형(Best-effort) 인터넷 서비스를 제공하며, 정액제(Flat Rate Pricing) 방식의 요금 체계를 채택하고 있어서 사용자별 그리고/또는 응용 서비스별 차별화된 통신 서비스 제공이 어렵다. 그러나 최근 멀티미디어 통신 기술, 보안 기술 등의 발전으로 최선형 인터넷 접속 서비스 이상의 서비스 품질(QoS-Quality of Service) 제공을 요구하는 대화형/스트리밍형 멀티미디어 서비스와 VPN(Virtual Private Network)의 도입이 확대되고 있다. 인터넷에서 QoS 제공을 위하여 RSVP 기반의 IntServ와 DiffServ 와 같은 다양한 기술들이 개발되어 왔다. 본 논문에서는 현재의 광대역 접속망 구조와 QoS 지원 현황을 분석하고, 광대역 접속망 환경에서 멀티미디어 서비스 지원을 위해 요구되는 QoS를 지원할 수 있는 현실적인 접근법과 구현 방안을 제시한다. 본 논문에서 제시하는 QoS 지원 방안은 종량제 형태의 과금 체계와 DiffServ 방식의 QoS 지원 기법의 결합으로 이루어지고, 기존 광대역 접속망과의 역호환성을 고려한 단계적인 접근 방안을 채택하고 있다.

  • NGN(Next Generation Network)은 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 시대가 현실화 되어가는 시점에서 현재와 미래에 가능한 정보통신 서비스를 제공하기 위한 핵심 인프라 기술을 의미한다. 다시 말해서, NGN은 언제 어디서나 유선과 무선에 상관없이 동일한 정보통신서비스를 제공하는 틀을 의미한다고 말할 수 있다. 현재 공공기관 등에서 구축하는 광대역통합망은 음성전화, 업무망, 인터넷망, 화상회의망, VoIP망 등을 수용하는 광대역 멀티미디어통신망을 구축하고 있다. 광대역통합망은 전달망 계층, 네트워크 제어 계층, 서비스 제어 계층 등 다양한 계층간 완벽한 상호연동성을 제공하지 않으면 목적한 대역폭 및 서비스를 제공 받을 수 없다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 현재 구축된 광대역통합망의 상호연동성 이슈를 분석하여 향후 구축될 광대역통합망의 구축 가이드라인을 제시한다.

Monarch를 이용한 주택내 초고속 인터넷망의 성능 측정 (Performance Measurement of Residential Broadband Network with Monarch)

  • 주택내 광대역통신망(Residential Broadband Network: RBN)은 xDSL/Cable 망에서 점차 100Mbps급의 FTTH로 발전하고 있다. 사용자들은 고속의 인터넷서비스를 이용하여 웹, 멀티미디어, 게임, 및 파일 공유 등 다양한 인터넷 응용들을 사용하고 있다. 따라서, 주택내 초고속 인터넷 망의 성능은 사용자의 만족도에 중요한 영향을 끼치게 된다. 일반적으로 ISP들은 특정 서버와 소프트웨어를 통해 사용자의 접속을 유도하여 망 성능 측정 결과를 공개하고 있다. 이러한 방법은 사용자의 적극적인 참여를 통한 측정이기 때문에 많은 시간과 비용이 들게 되며, 사용자의 참여를 적극적으로 유도해야한다. 본 논문은 최소한의 테스트 트래픽을 특정 서버에서 생성하여 주택내 광대역통신망의 성능 측정 방법인 Monarch라는 툴을 활용하여 국내의 대표적인 3개 ISP의 FTTH 인터넷 성능을 측정하고 분석한 결과를 제시하였다. 300개 이상의 유효 국내 FTTH 가입자들에 대한 광범위한 실험을 통하여 사용자가 직접 측정한 결과와 비교할 때 큰 오차를 보이지 않음을 확인하였고, 국내 ISP의 FTTH 망 $80{\sim}90Mbps$의 대역폭과 30ms 이내의 RTT를 관찰할 수 있었다.

A Coordinated Ciphertext Policy Attribute-based PHR Access Control with User Accountability

  • The personal health record (PHR) system is a promising application that provides precise information and customized services for health care. To flexibly protect sensitive data, attribute-based encryption has been widely applied for PHR access control. However, escrow, exposure and abuse of private keys still hinder its practical application in the PHR system. In this paper, we propose a coordinated ciphertext policy attribute-based access control with user accountability (CCP-ABAC-UA) for the PHR system. Its coordinated mechanism not only effectively prevents the escrow and exposure of private keys but also accurately detects whether key abuse is taking place and identifies the traitor. We claim that CCP-ABAC-UA is a user-side lightweight scheme. Especially for PHR receivers, no bilinear pairing computation is needed to access health records, so the practical mobile PHR system can be realized. By introducing a novel provably secure construction, we prove that it is secure against selectively chosen plaintext attacks. The analysis indicates that CCP-ABAC-UA achieves better performance in terms of security and user-side computational efficiency for a PHR system.

Improving IPTV Forwarding Masechanism in IEEE 802.16j MMR Networks Based on Aggregation

  • Internet protocol television (IPTV) service depends on the network quality of service (QoS) and bandwidth of the broadband service provider. IEEE 802.16j mobile multihop relay Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access networks have the opportunity to offer high bandwidth capacity by introducing relay stations. However, to actually satisfy QoS requirements for offering IPTV services (HDTV, SDTV, Web TV, and mobile TV) for heterogeneous users' requests, providers must use a video server for each IPTV service type, which increases the network load, especially bandwidth consumption and forwarding time. In this paper, we present a solution for forwarding IPTV video streaming to diverse subscribers via an 802.16j broadband wireless access network. In particular, we propose a new multicast tree construction and aggregation mechanism based on the unique property of prime numbers. Performance evaluation results show that the proposed scheme reduces both bandwidth consumption and forwarding time.
