  • In this thesis, a new broadband PIFA(Planar Inverted-F Antenna) for PCS and IMP-2000 applications is designed. The dual-L antenna structure is adopted in order to improve the characteristics of PIFA which usually has a narrow band. The height of the antenna is fixed 6 mm considering terminal's thickness and the structure is deformed into the folded radiation patches to minimize the size of the antenna. The bandwidth of a realized antenna is 1.66∼2.35 ㎓(34.5 %) fur return loss below -10 ㏈ which contain the required bandwidth of PCS and IMT-2000. And Monopole antenna with λ/4 length is designed and compared with dual-L with folded patch in SAR. 1 g and 10 g averaged peak SAR of PIFA are about 25.7 %, 30.3 % lower than those of monopole antenna respectively.

  • Fifth-generation communications are approaching, and they will require broadband antennas that include the existing LTE frequency band (1.7 GHz to 2.7 GHz) and the newly allocated frequency band (3.4 GHz to 3.7 GHz). Many kinds of antennas satisfy the required broadband characteristics, including the dual-element folded dipole antenna proposed in this paper. A zigzag line was used to make the antenna more compact. This was accomplished by reducing the physical length while maintaining the electrical length. To validate the proposed antenna, a prototype was fabricated using PCB (${\epsilon}_r$:4.4, Height: 1.6 mm) and its performance was evaluated. Results obtained by simulation and experiment showed good agreement.

  • The thickness, loading, and broadband noise generated from the trailing edge of the UH-1H main rotor are numerically compared each other. The Kocureck and Tangler's prescribed wake model is adopted to represent the wake geometry during the hovering motion. Three tip Mach numbers of $M_{T}$ = 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8, are selected to analyze the effects of different tip Mach numbers. At $M_{T}$ = 0.8, in considering the A-weighting and audible frequency band, the random noise is smaller than the tonal noises such as the thickness and the loading noise which have the low frequency characteristics. Especially most of the random noise frequency spread on the ultrasound region. On the other hand, below $M_{T}$ = 0.4, the band of random noise moves to the audible frequency region, and the random noise becomes larger than the tonal noise. It turns out that the random noise analysis of the rotor should be necessary at low speed operating condition.

  • This paper proposes the design of broadband spiral antenna for a potable non-linear junction detector (NLJD) system. To realize the broadband antenna design, it was considered optimization of the number of spiral turns by iteration calculation. Ground plane with the Archimedean spiral slit to keep the same current distribution between radiating plane and ground is considered for circular polarization design. In order to realize high directivity and high gain of the proposed antenna, the cavity wall and the metal cap which is located on back of ground plane were also considered in design. Measurement results of return loss were agreed well with VSWR 2:1 at interested frequency band among 2.4 to 2.44 GHz, 4.84 to 4.92 GHz and 7.28 to 7.36 GHz. Measured axial ratio was observed 3 dB below and showed reasonable agreement with simulation results. Characteristics of the RHCP(Right Hand Circular Polarization) with the measured gain of 6.8 dBi above at interested frequency band were also observed.

  • In this paper, a design method for a dual dipole antenna for an operation in the frequency band of 470-806 MHz for indoor digital TV (DTV) is studied. The proposed antenna is composed of two planar dipoles connected by parallel strip line, and the antenna is fed by a microstrip line. By employing different lengths of dipoles, a broadband characteristics is obtained, and the antenna is size-reduced by bending both ends of the longer dipole. The effects of each parameters on the antenna performance are examined by simulation, and the parameters are optimized for the DTV use. A prototype antenna with optimized parameters for the indoor DTV use is fabricated on an FR4 substrate and tested experimentally. The experimental results show that the frequency band for a VSWR < 2 ranges 458-864 MHz (61.4%, bandwidth 406 MHz, 1.89:1), and it corresponds fairly well with the simulated band 448-868 MHz (63.8%, bandwidth 420 MHz, 1.94:1).

  • In this paper, we studied a method for a broadband stacked patch antenna structure which is widely used for bandwidth improvement. The characteristics according to the distance between the two patches were analyzed and the impedance matching was optimized by connecting parallel open stubs to the main patch feed line. The shunt matching stub is inserted underneath the parasitic patch and so it does not require additional space, which enables the proposed antenna structure to be advantageous in miniaturizing antenna. The effects of the various parameters on the antenna performance are examined, and we introduced the design procedure for the proposed antenna to operate in the frequency range of 2.3~2.7GHz. Experimental results show that the bandwidth of the proposed antenna is about 480MHz with 2.27~2.75GHz bandwidth. And the antenna gain was 5.8dBi at 2.3GHz and 7.8dBi at 2.6GHz within the bandwidth.

  • Aeroacoustic characteristics of sirocco fan used in Over-The-Range (OTR) has been analyzed in this paper. A microwave hood combination over the gas range is short for the OTR. The flow phenomena of the double-sided sirocco fan was analyzed numerically and experimentally by using commercial code and three dimensional PIV for flow visualization. Also, microphone array is used in order to understand acoustic characteristics of OTR. Two dimensional unsteady flow and acoustic simulation is tried to qualitatively estimate the effects of tonal noise and broadband noise on the overall sound pressure level. It is found that tonal sound is generated from the strong interaction between the impeller and cutoff while broadband sound is generated from the strong secondary flows along the scroll surface. To reduce the noise level, the V-shape cut-off was applied to improve the sound quality by reducing tonal noise. So the peak noise at BPF (Blade Passing Frequency) was almost reduced. The shape of flow-guide to suppress the secondary flow over the scroll surface was carefully checked. It is found that this affects flow pattern at the fan exit and reduces the broad band noise. Through this numerical and experimental study, the sound pressure level was lowered by 4dBA compared to that of the previous fan at the operating point.

  • In this paper, to develop a broadband power line communication modem and network technologies, we analysis the characteristics of underground power line communication channel through actual tests. To measure the amount of attenuation by length and structure of broadband power line communication channel, we configure a measurement system of the channel with signal generator, spectrum analyzer and non-contacted coupler. For actual tests, we choose two of the longest lines among medium-voltage lines as a single line in the test lines and measure the characteristics of noise and signal attenuation level of the channel. The experimental results show that the channel has a impulse noise which can remarkably reduce communication capability. In the case of long lines, high-frequency attenuation appeared by length of the lines.

  • This study aims to identify the factors that influence adoption intentions towards portable Internet service, based on the individual characteristics that assist in creating markets and developing strategies. Two types of factors are defined: individual characteristics including demographics, existing services usages, prior knowledge, adoption attitudes, and service evaluations; and adoption intentions including the willingness to subscribe, subscription term, willingness to pay, usage type, and preferred terminal. The results indicate that the importance of demographic variables depends on adoption intentions, and that users of mobile Internet service and wireless LAN are probably targets for portable Internet service. Furthermore, the results demonstrate the need for an enhanced perception of the usefulness and ease of use of service, as well as an intensive marketing activity for potential users and a bearable innovation to stimulate the market for portable Internet service.

  • Helmholtz resonator is used to reduce noise of the narrow frequency band. It has high transmission loss at its resonance frequency. The silencer that combines many resonators could control broadband noise at low frequency. To convey this rather simple idea, serial and parallel arrangement of resonators have been tested to obtain high transmission loss characteristics in the band of which are selects. Theoretical and experimental results explain these characteristics in the absence of mean flow. The change of acoustic characteristics by the resonance frequencies and resonators arrangement are explained by using the equivalent Impedance analysis that is defined in this paper. It shows that the transmission loss has a maximum value when the separation distance between each resonator is λ/4 of its wavelength.
