  • Uniform brightness is very crucial for LCD panels, which should be made in during manufacturing. Usually some compensating algorithms are applied to recover the brightness deviation that occurs in actual panels. Although such remedying tools are used, it is very hard to prevent horizontal or vertical crosstalks that represent the brightness level difference in horizontal or vertical direction. This research applied transformability Taguchi dynamic characteristics and "nominal is best" static characteristic simultaneously to design the compensating circuit optimally that may reduce the crosstalks and make uniform brightness level.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive contrast enhancement method using dynamic range segmentation. Histogram Equalization (HE) method is widely used for contrast enhancement. However, histogram equalization method is not suitable for commercial display because it may cause undesirable artifacts due to the significant change in brightness. The proposed algorithm segments the dynamic range of the histogram and redistributes the pixel intensities by the segment area ratio. The proposed method may cause over compressed effect when intensity distribution of an original image is concentrated in specific narrow region. In order to overcome this problem, we introduce an adaptive scale factor. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm suppresses the significant change in brightness and provides wide histogram distribution compared with histogram equalization.

  • In order to develop a high brightness ion source using plasma, the ion beam extraction system with an aperture of $100{\mu}m$ in diameter has been designed and constructed. It is observed that over 500nA of He ion beam current can be extracted. With such an optimized condition, $\~10^3\;A/cm^2sr$ beam brightness can be measured by emittance scanner, which is believed to be a promising result for developing next generation FIB.

  • The automatic target detection which automatically identifies the location of the target with its input image is one of the significant subjects of image processing field. Then, there are some problems that should be solved to detect the target automatically from the input image. First of all, the ambiguity of the boundary between targets or between a target and background should be solved and the target should be searched adaptively. In other words, the target should be identified by the relative brightness to the background, not by the absolute brightness. In this paper, to solve these problems, a new algorithm which can identify the target automatically is proposed. This algorithm uses the set of fuzzy for solving the ambiguity between the boundaries, and using the weight according to the brightness of data in the input image, the target is identified adaptively by the relative brightness to the background. Applying this algorithm to real images, it is experimentally proved that it is can be effectively applied to the automatic target detection.

  • In order to derive time dependence of the atmospheric diffuse light, which consists of the airglow continuum emission and diffusely scattered radiations of the intergrated starlight, the diffuse Galactic light, and the zodiacal light, we have analyzed the meridian scan observations of the sky brightness at $5,080\;{\AA}$ and $5,300\;{\AA}$. Amplitude of the time-variation becomes larger for lower elevation, and maximum amplitude is found to be about $50\;S_{10}(V)_{G2V}$ at elevation $10^{\circ}$. The atmospheric diffuse radiation attains maximum brightness at around midnight, and afterward it decreases slowly with time. The time-variations for the two wavelengths are similar to each other. The observed brightness distribution of the diffuse light along the zenith distance is fitted to an empirical relation of two parameters. By making the two parameters time-dependent, we describe the spatial and time variations of the atmospheric diffuse light. This enables us to make time dependent correction for the atmospheric diffuse component in the reduction of zodiacal light brightness.

  • The catalytic effect of molybdovandophosphate heteropolyanion (HPAs) on the delignification of kraft bagasse pulp by hydrogen peroxide has been investigated. Very small amounts of the catalyst (0.05 0.3 mM/l) gave convenient results. Partial reduction of the catalyst was also studied. The effect of reaction medium (water, ethyl alcohol and acetone) on the bleaching was also studied. The results obtained show that the optimum condition for bleaching in presence of polyoxometalate were 0.05 mM/l catalyst concentration at $70^{\circ}C$ reaction temperature and $7\%$ consistency at pH 2 in aqueous medium. The ratio of water to solvent of 60:40 from acetone gives higher brightness than ethyl alcohol. The catalyst solution can be reused for 5 times without any reduction in brightness. ESR for the blank and exhausted solutions under different conditions was also carried out to find the relation between reduced metals and pulp brightness.

  • In this paper, we propose the design and implementation of a desktop LED stand and smart app that automatically adjusts color temperature and illuminance for optimal brightness and eye health by improving the structural problem of the LED stand. It is a tabletop LED stand that supports optimal brightness through color temperature control and heat transfer through infrared LED to relieve eye strain through blood circulation and muscle movement. The LED stand works with the smartphone to automatically adjust the optimal brightness and color temperature for the user's environment. In addition, the brightness of the infrared LED is adjusted to a living frequency of 4Hz to relax the eye muscles and reduce eye strain. This study implemented an effective measured data-based system of previous studies through the color temperature and illumination of LED lighting, and near-infrared rays, and presented meaningful results by conducting an experiment to prove the effect through subjects.

  • This paper is to introduce a lighting source controller using high brightness LED to create a clear and reliable condition for an accurate measurement and testing, which is a core technology in clinical image system and mechanical automation system. This controller is designed to supply a stable power in a constant-current system by installing a high brightness LED driver, and to improve the reproducibility of brightness by using 32-bit ARM processor core, dividing brightness quantity into 256 levels, making the remote control and the external interface possible, and preventing and digitizing the brightness inaccuracy caused by errors of resistance values. This controller enables the lighting range to be wide and possible in a low lighting level compared to analog, adds the RS-485 communication function, and makes it for the users to control the on-off function and the dimming level by receiving date from an external device.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the fractal dimension and radiographic image brightness of periapical radiograph were useful in predicting osteoporosis. Materials and Methods : Ninety-two postmenopausal women were classified as normal, osteopenia and osteoporosis group according to the bone mineral density of lumbar vertebrae and periapical radiographs of both mandibular molar areas were taken. The ROIs of 358 areas were selected at periapical and interdental areas and fractal dimension and radiographic image brightness were measured. Results : The fractal dimension in normal group was significantly higher than that in osteoporosis group at periapical ROI (P < 0.05). The radiographic image brightness in normal group was higher than that in osteopenia and osteoporosis group. There was significant difference not only between normal and osteopenia group (P < 0.05) but also within osteopenia and osteoporosis group (P< 0.01) at periapical ROI. Significant difference was observed not only between normal and osteopenia group but also between normal and osteoporosis group at interdental ROI (P< 0.01). Positive linear relationship was weakly shown at Pearson correlation analysis between fractal dimension and radiographic image brightness. BMD significantly correlated with fractal dimension at periapical ROI (P< 0.01), and BMD and radiographic image brightness significantly correlated at both periapical and interdental ROIs (P< 0.01). Conclusion : This study suggests that the fractal dimension and radiographic image brightness of periapical ROI may predict BMD. (Korean J Oral Maxillofac Radiol 2005: 35 : 41-6)
