There are many reports on fatigue crack of metallic materials but most of them relate crack propagation rate to stress intensity factor. The problem of crack propagation is not yet clarified, especially the bridge between micro and macro phenomena In this experiment rotating bending fatigue tests have been carried out with smoothed specimen of rolled steel plates including 0.2% carbon under application of three stress conditions to investigate the slip band and the crack propagation behaviour. The results obtained are as follows; 1) The length of cracks which have grown at initial crack tips can be expressed as follows; $l=Ae^{BNr}$(A,B: constant, $N_r$: cycle ratio) $\frac{dl}{dN}=\frac{AB}{N_f}{\cdot}e^{BNr}$($N_f$:fatigue life) 2) The ratio of slipped grain number to total grain number is $S_f=7{\sigma}-5.6$-5.6{\sigma}_c$($\sigma$: stress amplitude) (${\sigma}_c$: fatigue limit) 3) When the fatigue process transfers from Stage I to Stage II, the crack which propagates into specimen changes its direction from that of the maximum shear stress to the direction of perpendicular to principal stress and this is same in the circumferential direction of specimen. the crack propagation behaviors of both sides of a crack are different each other when they approach to the grain boundary.
An investigation on the structural behavior of cold-formed steel lipped C-section stud for interior walls or partitions was carried out. This experimental research was carried out to study the ultimate and service load capacity of stud assemblies that are subjected to lateral loads. Each test specimen consisted of three or four lipped C-section studs and two C-section tracks that restrained both ends. The major factors considered in this experiment were the perforation on the web, the connection of the bridge channel and the special clip. The effect of the plaster board and the ply wood, which were attached to the tension flange on the flexural strength, was also investigated. Thereafter, the test strength capacities were compared with the nominal strength, based on the AISI Specifications (1996).

In general, moving vehicles generate continuous and repetitive strain of energy on bridges. The strain energy can convert to electric energy due to its piezoelectric element. However, some factors should be considered in order to reasonably assess the feasibility such as load distribution applied on bridges and the relationship of strains generated according to loads. This study was carried out to estimate the generated voltage when piezoelectric elements were installed to a bridge. A steel-concrete composite specimen was fabricated and loads were applied, considering vehicle load-effects. As a result, the voltage generated in the element was evaluated and compared with the analysis equation of the piezoelectric effect.

As an alternative of conventional prestressed concrete (PSC) girders, various types of PSC girders are being developed and applied in bridge structures. Incrementally prestressed concrete girder is one of these newly developed girders. According to design concept, these new types of PSC girders have considerable advantages to reduce their self-weight and make spans longer. However, dynamic interaction between bridge superstructures and passing trains would be sometimes one of critical issues in these more flexible railway bridges. Therefore, it is very important to evaluate modal parameters of newly designed bridges before conducting dynamic analyses. In the present paper, a 25 meters long full scale PSC girder was fabricated as a test specimen and modal testing was carried out to evaluate modal parameters including natural frequencies and modal damping ratios at every prestressing stage. In the modal testing, a digitally controlled vibration exciter as well as an impact hammer is applied to obtain frequency response functions more exactly and the modal parameters are evaluated varying with construction stages. Prestressed force effects on changes of modal parameters are analyzed at every incremental prestressing stage.
The tribological characteristics of dental metal alloys and zirconia were studied by carrying out a friction and wear performance test. In this study, a pin-on-disk-type tester was used and dead weight was employed as the normal load applied to the test specimen. The friction coefficient of dental metal alloys was investigated in terms of their weight and sliding velocity. Microscopic observations were carried out on worn surfaces of specimens. The results indicated that among all metal alloys, Super-A had the highest friction coefficient. Super-A had the lowest amount of wear among all metal alloys, and the amount of wear increased in the following order: Crown & Bridge, Porcelain, and Partial. Crown & Bridge had the best friction coefficient, but the hardness of Crown & Bridge was lower than that of Porcelain and Partial. Experimental measurement results indicated that the disk weight before and after the experiment was the same.

In this study, to evaluate fatigue characteristics of developed composite bridge deck, compression fatigue test at girder support and flexural fatigue test for the 2.8m-long flexural test model were carried out. For the test specimen, DB 24 truck load was applied up to 2,000,000 cycles. In the compression fatigue test, behavior at deck tube and its bonded connection were evaluated. In the flexural fatigue test, deck behavior at mid-span and girder connection were evaluated.

Structural performance and serviceability of precast deck system are mostly determined by connection details between precast decks. Particularly, since the bridge deck is under repeated loads such as traffic loads, fatigue behavior and performance of joints should be investigated. In this study, a two-girder continuous composite bridge specimen was fabricated using the asymmetric ribbed loop joints, and static and fatigue load tests were conducted to evaluate the structural behavior and the crack pattern of the bridge deck. From the test results, the proposed precast deck system resulted in sufficient fatigue performance and failure strength. Therefore, the proposed precast deck system can be applied to the connection part of precast decks effectively.
The components of concrete track (rail and rail fastening system) in railway bridge deck ends are damaged and deteriorated by track-bridge interaction forces such as uplift forces and compression forces owing to their structural flexural characteristics (bridge end rotation). This had led to demand for alternatives to improve structural safety and serviceability. In this study, the authors aim to develop a transition track to enhance the long term workability and durability of concrete track components in railway bridge deck ends and thereby improve the performance of concrete track. A time-history analysis and a three-dimensional finite element method analysis were performed to consider the train speed and the effect of multiple train loads and the results were compared with the performance requirements and German standard for transition track. Furthermore, two specimens, a normal concrete track and a transition track, were fabricated to evaluate the effects of application of the developed transition track, and static tests were conducted. From the results, the track-bridge interaction force acting on the track components (rail displacement, rail stress, and clip stress) of the railway bridge deck end were significantly reduced with use of the developed transition track compared with the non-transition track specimen.

In this study, a local corrosion environment monitoring was conducted using steel box specimen fabricated to be the same as actual steel bridge members. The steel box specimen that obtained the same corrosion environment as a steel bridge was classified into the upper plate, bottom plate and web plate. Atmospheric corrosion monitoring sensors(ACM sensors) were installed in each corrosion monitoring member of a steel box specimen to measure the corrosion current and examine time of wetness for each monitoring member. The time of wetness and accumulated corrosion current of each monitoring member were calculated from the measured corrosion current using ACM sensors. The corrosion environment that appeared for each of the steel box members was evaluated from monitoring corrosion environment data as the corrosion current, time of wetness, mean corrosion depth of each monitoring member. Additionally, the atmospheric corrosion environment monitoring was also conducted to compare with the local corrosion environment of steel box members. From these local corrosion environment monitoring for the steel box specimen, the relationship between the relative corrosion environment and mean corrosion depth of each steel box member was examined.
Even though Korean peninsula is located in regions of moderate seismic risks, current seismic design provisions of the roadway bridge design code have adopted the AASHTO code which is based on the requirements for high seismic regions. The objective of this research is to investigate the seismic performance of circular reinforced concrete (RC) bridge piers with limited ductility, which may be desirable in low or moderate seismic regions, such as in Korea. Four test specimens were designed and constructed. The reference specimen was designed with longitudinal steel ratio as 1.01% and the confinement reinforcement ratio as 0.13% without considering earthquake, and three other test specimens were designed in accordance with a limited-ductility concept as 0.3% for the confinement steel ratio. This confinement ratio is 0.32 times of minimum lateral reinforcement specified in current seismic design provisions, and 2.3 times of lateral reinforcement required in nonseismic design provisions. The pseudo-dynamic test was carried out to evaluate the seismic performance of full-scale specimens in size of 1.2m diameter and 4.8m height. Judging from the experiment, the reference specimen was not satisfactory for the demand displacement ductility ${\mu}$=5.0, but three limited-ductility specimens appeared to have the displacement ductility of more than 5.
