The subjects of the study were females over age 20 living in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province between January and February 2008; 427 questionnaires were used for analysis. For data analysis the SPSS 17.0 statistical program was used, and principal component analysis, factor analysis using Varimax rotation, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ reliability testing, cluster analysis, ANOVA test, and Duncan test were conducted. The results and conclusions of this study are as follows. The dimensions of cosmetics consumption values were found to be the pleasure value, the fashion value, the function value, the brand ostentation value, and the appearance ostentation value. Five types of groups by factor were identified: the group seeking function, the group seeking fashion and brand ostentation, the group seeking pleasure, the group seeking appearance and brand ostentation, and the indifferent group. Second, The group attaching importance to functionality was more likely to select high-priced brands while the group attaching importance to brand awareness were more likely to seek foreign brands, irrespective of product type. As far as base and color cosmetics are concerned, the group attaching importance to pleasure was more likely to select low, medium, and high priced foreign brands, as well as low and medium priced domestic brands. As for body products, the group attaching importance to fashion and brand awareness tended to select low, medium, and high priced domestic brands, as well as high priced foreign brands. By simultaneously purchasing high, medium, and low priced brands, these groups display an ambivalent consumption pattern. • This study aimed to elucidate any differences in fashion consumption tendencies among fashion consumers according to their MBTI personality types and fashion brand sensibility (Chanel vs. Off-White). Differences in fashion consumption tendencies (fashion sensitivity, fashion innovativeness, and fashion ostentation) were determined based on two of MBTI's four bipolar indicators: extroversion-introversion, sensing-intuition, thinking-feeling, and judging-perceiving. It was found that intuitive consumers showed higher fashion innovativeness than sensory consumers. In addition, feeling-type consumers showed more fashion-sensitive and ostentatious fashion consumption tendencies than thinking-type consumers. Fashion brand sensibility acted as a moderator in the relationship between personality type and fashion consumption tendency. Especially, moderating effects of fashion brand sensibility and fashion consumption tendencies were evident in sensing-intuition and judging-perceiving types. Among intuitive consumers, those who preferred Chanel brand sensibility exhibited higher tendencies for fashion ostentation than those who preferred Off-White brand sensibility. However, sensory type consumers showed no difference in fashion ostentation based on their preferred fashion brand sensibility. Interaction effects regarding fashion sensitivity and fashion innovativeness were not found. Among perceiving-type consumers who preferred Chanel brand sensibility, high fashion sensitivity was evident. Conversely, judgment-type consumers who preferred Off-White brand sensibility showed high fashion sensitivity. Interaction effects concerning fashion innovativeness and fashion ostentation were not found.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the antecedents and consequence of role-relaxed consumption. Consumption-related variables were considered as antecedents, and fashion-related variable was considered as a consequence. Hedonic consumption, impulse buying, value consciousness, and brand sensitivity were included as consumption-related variables and fashion consciousness was included as a fashion-related variable. It was hypothesized that hedonic consumption, impulse buying, value consciousness, and brand sensitivity influence rolerelaxed consumption and then influence fashion consciousness. Data were gathered by surveying university students in Seoul, using convenience sampling. Two hundred twenty seven questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis, exploratory factor analysis using SPSS and confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis using AMOS. While hedonic consumption, impulse buying, value consciousness, and brand sensitivity were uni-dimensions, role-relaxed consumption and fashion consciousness were multi-dimensions. Factor analysis of role-relaxed consumption revealed two dimensions, 'self-centered decision making' factor and 'importance of intrinsic value' factor. In addition, factor analysis of fashion conscious revealed three dimensions, 'individualism' factor, 'dressing style' factor, and 'appearance' factor. Tests of the hypothesized path show that impulse buying and brand sensitivity negatively influence 'self-centered decision making' and that hedonic consumption and value consciousness negatively influence 'importance of intrinsic value'. While 'self-centered decision making'negatively influence 'dressing style' and 'appearance, 'importance of intrinsic value' negatively influences all factors of fashion consciousness. The implications of these findings and suggestions for future study are also discussed.
