  • Objective: Few studies have genetically monitored chickens over time, and no research has been conducted on ducks. To ensure the sustainable management of key duck breeds, we used microsatellite markers to monitor Brown Tsaiya ducks over time genetically. Methods: The second, fourth, sixth to eighth generations of the Brown Tsaiya duck selected for feeding efficiency and control lines were included in this study to investigate the genetic variations, effective population size, population structure and the differentiation between populations over time with 11 microsatellite markers derived from Brown Tsaiya duck. Results: The results showed there were a slight decrease in the genetic variations and an increase in within-population inbreeding coefficient (FIS) in both lines, but no consistent increase in FIS was observed in each line. The effective population size in the second and eighth generations was 27.2 for the selected line and 23.9 for the control line. The change in allele richness showed a downward trend over time, and the selected line was slightly lower than the control line in each generation. The number of private alleles (Np) in the selected line were higher than in the control line. Moderate differentiation was observed between the second and eighth generations in the selected line (FST = 0.0510) and the control line (FST = 0.0606). Overall, differentiation tended to increase with each generation, but genetic variation and structure did not change considerably after six generations in the two lines. Conclusion: This study provides a reference for poultry conservation and helps to implement cross-generation genetic monitoring and breeding plans in other duck breeds or lines to promote sustainable management.

  • Assembly U-lines are increasingly accepted in industry, especially just-in-time production systems, for the efficient utilization of workforce. In this paper, we present an integer programming formulation and a branch-and-bound method for balancing the U-line with the objective of minimizing the number of workstations with a fixed cycle time. In the mathematical model, we provide the method that can reduce the number of variables and constraints. The proposed branch-and-bound method searches the optimal solution based on a depth-first-search. To efficiently search for the optimal solutions to the problems, an assignment rule is used in the method. Bounding strategies and dominance rules are also utilized. Some problems require a large amount of computation time to find the optimal solutions. For this reason. some heuristic fathoming rules are also proposed. Extensive experiments with test-bed problems in the literature are carried out to show the performance of the proposed method. The computational results show that our method is promising in solution quality.

  • This paper presents the modified design that can reject the harmonic signals in the branch-line coupler. After adding open stubs at the center of quarter-wavelength lines of the traditional design, all network parameters can be determined by network equivalence, in order to maintain the conventional function at the operating frequency and suppress its harmonic terms to de chosen. Experimental results show the second and third harmonic suppressions to be -37.5 and -42.7dBs, while maintaining conventional performance at the fundamental frequency.

  • This study examines the morphological features of larval and postlarval shells of the paedomorphic bivalve Crenella decussata Montagu, 1808 from the Sea of Japan. During the early morphogenesis of the shell of C. decussata the following characteristics appear: prodissoconch I -the anterior and posterior provincular teeth, a broad primary ligament pit located on the chondrophore; nepioconch - the anterior and posterior juvenile teeth, primary lateral teeth, fine commarginal and radial sculpture. Larvae of C. decussata distinctly differ from other mytilid larvae by a D-shaped shell, absence of umbo, astraight hinge margin, and homogeneous fine-grained sculpture without co-marginal lines of growth. These shell characters indicate lecithotrophic development of this species. Some morphostructures are revealed which might be used in crenellin taxonomy.

  • This paper describes a design of dual band balanced amplifier using a lefted handed meta-material transmission line structure for high frequency application. Meta-material transmission lines have been known to have dual band frequency responses. A dual band branch line hybrid coupler is designed using the meta-material transmission lines, and measured at first. Two identical dual band amplifiers are also designed, built and tested using the same meta-material transmission structure. The proposed dual band balanced amplifier is composed of those dual band branch line hybrid coupler and amplifiers. In order to suggest an design example, a prototype of dual band balanced amplifier is built and measured at the dual frequencies, 1800MHz($f_1$) and 2300MHz($f_2$). The simulation and measurement show that the fabricated balanced amplifier operates well at the desired dual frequencies bands with the gain of 11.12dB and 17.67dB at $f_1$ and $f_2$, respectively, with a good agreement with the simulation results.

  • A numerical analysis has been perfonned to estimate the effect of turbulent penetration and thermal stratified flow in the branch lines piping. This phenomenon of thermal stratification are usually observed in the piping lines of the safety related systems and may be identified as the source of fatigue in the piping system due to the thermal stress loading which are associated with plant operating modes. The turbulent penetration length reaches to $1^{st}$ valve in safety injection piping from reactor coolant system (RCS) at normal operation for nuclear power plant when a coolant does not leak out through valve. At the time, therefore, the thermal stratification does not appear in the piping between RCS piping and $1^{st}$ valve of safety injection piping. When a coolant leak out through the $1^{st}$ valve by any damage, however, the thermal stratification can occur in the safety injection piping. At that time, the maximum temperature difference of fluid between top and bottom in the piping is estimated about $50^{\circ}C$.

  • Wide-area monitoring of tree-related high impedance fault (THIF) efficiently contributes to increase reliability of large-scaled network, since the failure to early location of them may results in critical lines tripping and consequently large blackouts. In the first place, this wide-area monitoring of THIF requires managing the placement of sensors across large power grid network according to THIF detection objective. For this purpose, current paper presents a framework in which sensors are distributed according to a predetermined risk map. The proposed risk map determines the possibility of THIF occurrence on every branch in a power network, based on electrical conductivity of trees and their positions to power lines which extracted from spectral data. The obtained possibility value can be considered as a weight coefficient assigned to each branch in sensor placement problem. The next step after sensors deployment is to on-line monitor based on moving data window. In this on-line process, the received data window is evaluated for obtaining a correlation between low frequency and high frequency components of signal. If obtained correlation follows a specified pattern, received signal is considered as a THIF. Thereafter, if several faulted section candidates are found by deployed sensors, the most likely location is chosen from the list of candidates based on predetermined THIF risk map.

  • Lightning induced voltage is a major factor that causes interruptions on distribution lines. In this paper, analytical expressions are proposed to evaluate a lightning induced voltage on power lines directly in the time domain without the need to apply any extra conversions. The proposed expressions can consider the widely used current functions and models in contrast to the earlier analytical expressions which had a number of limitations related to the simplification of the channel base current and the current along the lightning channel. The results show that the simulated values based on the proposed method are in good agreement with the previous studies and the proposed expressions can be used for optimizing the insulation and protection level of existing and new lines being designed.

  • This paper deals with a proper installation methods of SPDs for information-oriented and computerized equipments. Since the information and computerized equipments have AC power lines and communication lines, the potential difference by lightning surge occurs between grounding points of the AC power lines and subscriber protectors, and it causes the flashover and damage. So, we have investigated the effect of the installation methods of surge protectors on the control of overvoltages, using a real-sized test circuit with a customer's facility. As a consequence, it was confirmed that the protection methods by installation of SPDs on the neighbor branch circuit was effective.
