The present study examined the 3 dimensional space distribution characteristics of sea water intrusion using data available from previous observations. For this study, we used 3D FEMWATER, which is a 3 dimensional finite element model. The target area was around Daechang-ri, Gimje-si, Jeollabuk-do. The area is relatively easy to formulate a conceptual model and has observation wells in operation for surveying sea water intrusion. Considering the uncertainty of numerical simulation, we analyzed sensitivity to hydraulic conductivity, which has a relatively higher effect. According to the result of the analysis, the variation of TDS concentration had an error range of $-1,336{\~}+107 mg/{\iota}$. Taking note that the survey data from observation wells were collected when the boundary between fresh water and sea water in the aquifer was in equilibrium, we set the range of time for numerical simulation and estimated the spatial distribution of TDS concentration as the range of sea water intrusion. According to the result of estimation, the spatial distribution of TDS concentration calculated when 1,440 days were simulated was taken as the range of sea water intrusion. Using the result of calculation, we can draw not only vertical views for a certain section but also horizontal views of different depth. These views will be greatly helpful in understanding the spatial distribution of the range of sea water intrusion. In addition, the result of this study can be used rationally in proposing an optimal quantity of water pumping through investigating the moving route of sea water intrusion over time in order to prevent excessive water pumping and to maintain an optimal number of water pumping wells per interval.

This paper presents numerical investigation on behaviors of the rear cover in the vertical launcher under rocket plume loading by using fluid-structure interaction analysis. The rocket plume loading is modeled by the fully Eulerian method and elasto-plastic behavior of the rear cover is predicted by the total Lagrangian method based on a 9-node planar element. The interface motion and boundary conditions are described by a hybrid particle level-set method within the ghost fluid framework. The present results will be compared with the experimental data in the future.

As we, human expand its everyday life boundary to the geosynchronous orbit, we have experienced frequent chance of the atmospheric re-entry and surface impact of space objects(satellite and space debris). Recently a satellite re-entry monitoring room in Korea has been operated to predict the time and the location of the re-entry of space objects. However, we do not have a domestic version of a numerical re-entry model for normal operation using TLE (Two line Element) information from the United States Strategic Command yet. The space information from the several space operation centers has been used to analyse the re-entry situations. In this paper, the re-entry time is calculated with TLE based on the several atmosphere models, the result is comprehensively analyzed, a new re-entry case model fitted from the result of the predicted satellite re-entry times by a new Rubber Sheet Shift Method used by the domestic satellite re-entry room is suggested.
Shear walls are one of the important structural elements for bearing loads imposed on buildings due to winds and earthquakes. Composite shear walls with high lateral resistance, and high energy dissipation capacity are considered as a lateral load system in such buildings. In this paper, a composite shear wall consisting of steel faceplates, infill concrete and tie bars which tied steel faceplates together, and concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) as boundary columns, was modeled numerically. Test results were compared with the existing experimental results in order to validate the proposed numerical model. Then, the effects of some parameters on the behavior of the composite shear wall were studied; so, the diameter and spacing of tie bars, thickness and compressive strength of infill concrete, thickness of steel faceplates, and the effect of strengthening the bottom region of the wall were considered. The seismic behavior of the modeled composite shear wall was evaluated in terms of stiffness, ductility, lateral strength, and energy dissipation capacity. The results of the study showed that the diameter of tie bars had a trivial effect on the performance of the composite shear wall, but increasing the tie bars spacing decreased ductility. Studying the effect of infill concrete thickness, concrete compressive strength, and thickness of steel faceplates also showed that the main role of infill concrete was to prevent buckling of steel faceplates. Also, by strengthening the bottom region of the wall, as long as the strengthened part did not provide a support performance for the upper part, the behavior of the composite shear wall was improved; otherwise, ductility of the wall could be reduced severely.

In this paper, derivation of the STL (Sound Transmission Loss) of a square plate installed in an impedance tube is discussed using an analytic method. Coupled motion of the plate vibration and acoustic field is considered. Vibration of the plate and pressure field inside the tube are expressed in terms of the infinite series of modal functions. Under the plane wave assumption, it is shown that consideration of the first few modes yields sufficiently accurate results. When the boundary of the plate is clamped, vibration mode is assumed as a multiplication of the beam modes corresponding to the crosswise directions. The natural frequencies of the clamped plate are calculated using the Rayleigh-Ritz method. It is found that the STL shows a dip at the lowest natural frequency of the plate, and increases as the frequency decreases below the natural frequency. Comparison of the result in this paper with the STL obtained by measurements and FE computations in the reference shows an excellent agreement.
Machine or structural members subjected to fatigue loading will have a crack initiated during early part of their life. Therefore analysis of members with cracks and other discontinuities is very important. Finite element method has enjoyed widespread use in engineering, but it is not convenient for crack problems as the region very close to crack tip is to be discretized with very fine mesh. However, as the body force method (BFM), requires only the boundary of the discontinuity (crack or hole) to be discretized it is easy versatile technique to analyze such problems. In the present work fundamental solution for concentrated load x + iy acting in the semi-infinite plate at an arbitrary point $z_0=x_0+iy_0$ is considered. These fundamental solutions are in complex form ${\phi}(z)$ and ${\psi}(z)$ (England 1971). These potentials are known as Melan potentials (Ramakrishna 1994). A crack in the semi-infinite plate as shown in Fig. 1 is considered. This crack is divided into number of divisions. By applying pair of body forces on a division, the resultant forces on the remaining 'N'divisions are to be found for which ${\phi}_1(z)$ and ${\psi}_1(z)$ are derived. Body force method is applied to calculate stress intensity factor for crack in semi-infinite plate. Also for the case of crack emanating from circular hole in semi-infinite plate radial stress, hoop stress and shear stress are calculated around the hole and crack. Convergent results are obtained by body force method. These results are compared with FEM results.

In this paper we propose a feature point tracking algorithm using optical flow under non-prior taming active feature model (NPT-AFM). The proposed algorithm mainly focuses on analysis non-rigid objects[1], and provides real-time, robust tracking by NPT-AFM. NPT-AFM algorithm can be divided into two steps: (i) localization of an object-of-interest and (ii) prediction and correction of the object position by utilizing the inter-frame information. The localization step was realized by using a modified Shi-Tomasi's feature tracking algoriam[2] after motion-based segmentation. In the prediction-correction step, given feature points are continuously tracked by using optical flow method[3] and if a feature point cannot be properly tracked, temporal and spatial prediction schemes can be employed for that point until it becomes uncovered again. Feature points inside an object are estimated instead of its shape boundary, and are updated an element of the training set for AFH Experimental results, show that the proposed NPT-AFM-based algerian can robustly track non-rigid objects in real-time.

This paper presents a numerical method for implementing a nonlinear constitutive material model developed by Lade, into a finite element computer program. The techniques used are based on the displacement method for the solution of axial symmetric and plane strain nonlinear boundary value problems. Laboratory behaviour of Baekma river sand(#40-60) is used to illustrate the determination of the parameters and verification of the model. Computer procedure is developed to determine the material parameters for the nonlinear model from the raw laboratory test data. The model is verified by comparing its predictions with observed data used for the determination of the parameters and then with observed data not used for the determination. Three categories of tests are carried out in the back-prediction exercise; (1) A hydrostatic test including loading and unloading response, (2) Conventional triaxial drained compression tests at three different confining pressure and (3) A model strip footing test not including in the evaluation of material parameters. Pertinent observations are discussed based on the comparison of predicted response and experimental data.

A hybrid experimental-numerical method is presented for determining the stresses around a circular hole in a finite-width, tensile loaded plate. Measured fringe orders along straight lines provided the input information on the external boundary of the hybrid element. In order to see the effects of varying stress field, different numbers of terms in a power-series representation of the complex type conformal mapping stress function were tested. For qualitative comparison, actual isochromatic fringes were compared with reconstructed theoretical fringes using stress-optic law. For quantitative comparison, relative errors and standard deviations with respective to relative errors were analyzed for all measured points by changing the number of terms of stress function. The hybrid results are highly comparable with those predicted by FEA. The results show that this approach is effective and promising because isochromatic data along the straight lines in photoelasticity can be conveniently measured by use of phase shifting photoelasticity.

In this study, we designed the metallic reception part of a patch antenna using the phase field design method. The design object function is formulated with the S-parameter value which represent the return loss so that it is targeted to maximize radiation efficiency at a target frequency. The initial model of a patch antenna was designed via the ordinary theory based approach and its performance was enhanced by changing the structural configuration of the metallic part using the phase field design method combined with the double well potential functions. The final shape was proposed by removing the gray scale area along the structural boundary by employing a cut-off method. The proposed shape shows that the radiation efficiency at target frequency is significantly improved compared with the initial patch shape. The finite element analysis and optimization precess was performed using the commercial package COMSOL and Matlab programming.
