Method for estimating workability of self-compacting concrete using mixing process images

  • Estimating the workability of self-compacting concrete (SCC) is very important both in laboratories and on construction site. A method using visual information during the mixing process was proposed in this paper to estimate the workability of SCC. First, fourteen specimens of concrete were produced by a single-shaft mixer. A digital camera was used to record all the mixing processes. Second, employing the digital image processing, the visual information from mixing process images was extracted. The concrete pushed by the rotating blades forms two boundaries in the images. The shape of the upper boundary and the vertical distance between the upper and lower boundaries were used as two visual features. Thirdly, slump flow test and V-funnel test were carried out to estimate the workability of each SCC. Finally, the vertical distance between the upper and lower boundaries andthe shape of the upper boundary were used as indicators to estimate the workability of SCC. The vertical distance between the upper and lower boundaries was related to the slump flow, the shape of the upper boundary was related to the V-funnel flow time. Based on these relationships, the workability of SCC could be estimated using the mixing process images. This estimating method was verified by three more experiments. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method could be used to automatically estimate SCC workability.

Effective time-frequency characterization of Lamb wave dispersion in plate-like structures with non-reflecting boundaries

  • Research on Lamb wave-based damage identification in plate-like structures depends on precise knowledge of dispersive wave velocity. However, boundary reflections with the same frequency of interest and greater amplitude contaminate direct waves and thus compromise measurement of Lamb wave dispersion in different materials. In this study, non-reflecting boundaries were proposed in both numerical and experimental cases to facilitate time-frequency characterization of Lamb wave dispersion. First, the Lamb wave equations in isotropic and laminated materials were analytically solved. Second, the non-reflecting boundaries were used as a series of frames with gradually increased damping coefficients in finite element models to absorb waves at boundaries while avoiding wave reflections due to abrupt property changes of each frame. Third, damping clay was sealed at plate edges to reduce the boundary reflection in experimental test. Finally, the direct waves were subjected to the slant-stack and short-time Fourier transformations to calculate the dispersion curves of phase and group velocities, respectively. Both the numerical and experimental results suggest that the boundary reflections are effectively alleviated, and the dispersion curves generated by the time-frequency analysis are consistent with the analytical solutions, demonstrating that the combination of non-reflecting boundary and time-frequency analysis is a feasible and reliable scheme for characterizing Lamb wave dispersion in plate-like structures.

Multi-Pass 구조를 가지는 Shot 경계 검출기법 (Shot Boundary Detection Algorithm using Multi-Pass Mechanism)

  • 본 논문에서는 MPEG으로 압축된 영상에 대해서 급격한 장면 변화에 의한 shot 경계(cut)와 점진적 장면 변화에 의한 shot 경계(dissolve)를 검출하여 비디오 shot을 분할하는 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 shot 경계 검출 기법은 기존에 잘 검출하지 못하였던 점진적 장면 변화에 의한 shot의 경계검출을 위한 알고리즘이다. 먼저 압축영역의 기법 중 DCT DC 값을 비교하는 방법을 이용하여 급격한 장면 변화에 의한 shot 경계를 검출한다. 그리고 움직임 벡터(MV)의 비를 비교하는 방법을 사용하여 점진적 장면 변화에 의한 shot 경계의 후보지들을 얻어내고, 선택된 후보지들 중 n번째와 n+2번째 후보지 영상으로 feded image를 만들어 n+1번째 후보지의 영상과 유사도를 비교하여 점진적 장면 변화에 의한 shot 경계를 검출한다. 이와 같이 압축영역의 기법으로 급격한 장면 변화에 의한 shot 경계와 점진적 장면 변화에 의한 shot 경계 후보지를 검출해 내고, 검출된 shot 경계 후보지들에서 점진적 장면 변화에 의한 shot 경계를 검출하는 방법을 함으로서 MPEG 비디오 영상의 복원량을 최소화하여 수행 속도를 높이면서도 급격한 장면 변화에 의한 shot 경계와 점진적 장면 변화에 의한 shot 경계, 두 가지 모두를 효과적으로 검출할 수 있었다.

스퍼터 증착조건에 따른 구리박막의 미세구조 분석 (Microstructure Characterization of Cu Thin Films : Effects of Sputter Deposition Conditions)

  • DC마그네트론 스퍼터링방법으로 공정조건을 변화시키며 종착된 구리박막의 미세구조를 분석하였다. 폴리이미드위에 두께 50nm의 Cr박막을 증착한 뒤 두께 500 nm 또는 1000nm의 Cu 박막을 아르곤 압력을 5, 50, 100 mtorr로 변화시키며 증착하였으며 박막의 미세구조는 범용 SEM과 고분해능 SEM, TEM을 사용하여 관찰하였다. 스퍼터링 압력이 증가할수록 열린 계면이 더 많이 관찰되었다. 5 mtorr에서 형성된 박막의 표면은 균일하고 치밀한 구조인 반면에 높은 압력에서 증착된 시편에는 많은 미세 균열이 관찰되었다. 50, 100 mtorr에서 증착된 시편은 박막 두께의 영향도 관찰되어 500nm의 경우에 비해 두께가 $1{\mu}m$인 두꺼운 박막에서 더 법고 큰 균열이 발견되며 균열의 수도 증가하였다. 고분해능 SEM과 TEM으로 관찰한 결과 5 mtorr에서 증착된 시편의 특정 미세 형상은 하나의 결정립이며 주상정이 잘발달된 50, 100 mtorr에서 증착된 시편에서는 1개의 주상정 내부에 여러개의 결정립이 존재하였다. 증착압력이 증가할수록 구리박막의 결정립 크기가 감소하였는데 이는 구리원자의 표면 확산이 방해 받았기 때문이다.

  • 사회경제적 조건의 변화에 따라 늘어나는 가족 해체의 대안으로 조손가족에 대한 사회적 관심이 증가하고 있는 현재 다시 짚어보아야 할 것은 조손가족이 갖는 사회문화적 가치이다. 조손가족에 대한 접근은 정책결정자나 전문가의 관점에서만 이루어져 왔으므로 조손가족구성원들의 당사자 시각은 결여되어 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 반성에 기초하여, 조손가족 조모들의 양육 경험의 의미를 문화기술지 연구방법을 통해 알아보았다. 10명의 조손가족 조모들을 정보제공자로 하여 수집한 자료 분석 결과 조모들의 경험은 '다중의 경계 밖에 가족 만들기'라는 문화적 주제로 수렴되었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 조손가족이 하나의 가족 체계로서 갖는 가치를 수용하고 이 체계의 고유성을 강화하고 보존하며, 조모들이 이미 가지고 있는 양육 기능을 더욱 계발하고, 조모와 손자녀 중간세대와의 연결을 꾀하는 실천적, 정책적 접근을 제안하였다.

상용 인산칼슘계 분말로 제조된 생체세라믹스의 표면용해 특성 (Dissolution on the Surface of Bioceramics Prepared by Commercial Calcium Phosphate Powders)

  • In this study, dissolution characteristics of four types of commercial calcium phosphate ceramics were investigated in distilled water with respect to chemical composition and microstructure. For all samples, no significant damage was observed after 3 days of immersion. Following the 7 days of immersion, surface dissolution of the ceramics containing a crystalline phase susceptible to water such as TCP, even pure hydroxyapatite, was initiated at grain boundaries and the dissolution was extended interior to the material along the grain boundaries. In the considerably dissolved area, there was grain separation followed by the formation of 20 $\mu\textrm{m}$ of cavities. In at least one case, the residual pores on the surface appeared to initiate dissolution. In a dissolved area, a crack during the fracture propagates along the grain boundaries resulting in intergranular fracture, while transgranular fracture occurs in a dense area without significant dissolution.

Parametric Instability Boundaries for Spatial Subharmonics in Photorefractive Moving Gratings: Theory and Experiments

  • We have derived a nonlinear spatiotemporal differential equation for space-charge fields from Kukhtarev’s material equations in a moving coordinate system and obtained the spatial subharmonic instability boundaries by using linear stability analysis. It is also found that there is an analogy between the temporal subharmonic and the spatial subharmonc instabilities in the sense that the governing differential equations describing the instability boundaries are formally identical. The experiments for generating spatial subharmonic waves are performed in a photorefractive $Bi_{12}SiO_{20}$ crystal by using conventional moving grating technique. The threshold detunings are experimentally determined and the results are compared with the theory.

Single-Domain-Like Graphene with ZnO-Stitching by Defect-Selective Atomic Layer Deposition

  • Large-area graphene films produced by means of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) are polycrystalline and thus contain numerous grain boundaries that can greatly degrade their performance and produce inhomogeneous properties. A better grain boundary engineering in CVD graphene is essential to realize the full potential of graphene in large-scale applications. Here, we report a defect-selective atomic layer deposition (ALD) for stitching grain boundaries of CVD graphene with ZnO so as to increase the connectivity between grains. In the present ALD process, ZnO with hexagonal wurtzite structure was selectively grown mainly on the defect-rich grain boundaries to produce ZnO-stitched CVD graphene with well-connected grains. For the CVD graphene film after ZnO stitching, the inter-grain mobility is notably improved with only a little change in free carrier density. We also demonstrate how ZnO-stitched CVD graphene can be successfully integrated into wafer-scale arrays of top-gated field effect transistors on 4-inch Si and polymer substrates, revealing remarkable device-to-device uniformity.

고속의 세미오토매틱 비디오객체 추적 알고리즘 (A Fast Semiautomatic Video Object Tracking Algorithm)

  • Semantic video object extraction is important for tracking meaningful objects in video and object-based video coding. We propose a fast semiautomatic video object extraction algorithm which combines a watershed segmentation schemes and chamfer distance transform. Initial object boundaries in the first frame are defined by a human before the tracking, and fast video object tracking can be achieved by tracking only motion-detected regions in a video frame. Experimental results shows that the boundaries of tracking video object arc close to real video object boundaries and the proposed algorithm is promising in terms of speed.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the aesthetic characteristics of grotesque images in fashion specially focused on the postmodern grotesque with the relationship between body and fashion. The results are as follows: The postmodern grotesque fashion images in the years of 1990-2000 can be analyzed as trans-stylistic, trans-boundaries which have been set by the modem western white elite men group. The postmodern grotesque fashion images in the years of 1990-2000 can be categorized as 1) unclear boundaries between genders: body and dress; human being and non-human being; life and death; wholeness and fragmentation; clear body and abject body. 2) violence to the body: body mutation by simplification, exaggeration; body injury.
