우리나라 서해 근해 해저 쓰레기 분포 및 조성 (The distribution and composition of seabed litter in the exclusive economic zone of the West Sea of South Korea)

  • Distribution and composition of the seabed litters in the exclusive economic zone of the West Sea of South Korea including 18 sea-blocks were investigated using a bottom trawl gear of the R/V Tamgtu 20 (National Institute of Fisheries Science) from 24th April 2011 to 4th May 2012. Each trawl shot was conducted for an hour in each sea-block and the total trawl shots was 18. As a result, 325.6 kg of seabed litter in total has been collected. The quantity of the seabed litter was highest at No. 202 of the sea-block, close to the Heuksan-Do. The highest occupied sea material was plastic (83.1% of entire seabed litters), the second highest material was metal combined with plastic (10.6%), and glass (2.9%), metals (2.3%), vinyl (0.6%), cloth (0.4%) and wood (0.2%) in order. The origin of seabed litters was from fishing gear (89.0% of all seabed litters). Therefore, it could be assumed that most seabed litters were derived from the fishing activity for example fishing nets and ropes.

한국 남해안의 잠재어업자원 조사연구 - 어업생물자원의 음향학적 조사 - (Investigations of the Potential Fisheries Resources in the Southern Waters of Korea - Hydroacoustic Investigations of Abundance and Distributing of Fish -)

  • The hydroacoustic surveys to provide the essential information for the assessment, management and utilization of fishery resources in the southern waters of Korea were carried out during five research cruises between October 1996 and October 1997 by the training ship KAYA of Pukyong National University. These hydroacoustic investigations were designed to obtain more precise estimates of the geographic distribution, absolute abundance and biological characteristics of the fishery resources, and the vertically integrated densities of fish in terms of volume backscattering strength(SV) by survey region and depth bins, such as the entire water column and the 0~ 10 m from bottom fraction, were measured separately. Hydroacoustic data were collected by using a Simrad EK 500 Scientific echo sounder operating at two frequencies of 38kHz and 120kHz and the data stored in field were later processed on a HP PC using a Simrad EP 500 echo integration and target strength analysis system. The biological compositions of echo signal were identified and sampled using a demersal trawl during daylight hours. The mean target strength to scale the echo integration data for hydroacoustic surveys was derived from the relationship between the SV and the weight of trawl catch per unit volume of the water column sampled by demersal trawls. The results obtained can be summarized as follow : 1. The mean volume backscattering strength for the entire water column in the southern waters of Korea between 1996 and 1997 were -67.2 dB and -70.9 dB at two frequencies of 38 kHz and 120 kHz , respectively, and for the bottom layer of the 0-10 m from bottom friction were -68.8 dB, -70.2 dB, respectively. That is, the volume backscattering strength for the entire water column at low frequency was higher than that at high frequency. 2. The relationship between the mean backscattering strength (〈SV〉, dB) for the depth strata of trawl hauls and the weight (C, kg/m3) per cubic meter of the catch sampled by bottom trawling in the southern waters of Korea in January and July 1997 were expressed by the following equations: 38 kHz : 〈SV〉= -28.2 + 10 log(C), 120 kHz : 〈SV〉= -32.4 + 10 log(C). The mean weight -normalized target strengths derived from these equitions were -28.2 dB/ kg, -32.4 dB/ kg at 38 kHz and 120 kHz , respectively. That is, the mean weight -normalized target strength at 38 kHz was 4.2 dB higher than that at 120 kHz. 3. The distribution density of fish in terms of biomass per unit volume in the southern waters of Korea were estimated to be 125.9 $\times$ 10-6 kg/m3 and 141.3 $\times$ 10-6 kg/m3 at 38 kHz and 120 kHz , respectively.

동중국해에 있어서 어족생물의 일주기적 여영행동특성에 관한 연구 II - 연직이동속도 및 산란강도의 변동 - (Hydroacoustic Observations on the Diel Distribution and Activity Patterns of Fishes in the East China Sea II - Vertical Speed of Migration and Variation in Scattering Strength -)

  • The speed of vertical migration and the volume backscattering strength of the scattering layers during the evening and morning transitions between day and night were measured in November 1990-1992 in thermally stratified waters of the East China Sea. Acoustical measurements were carried out using a scientific echo-sounder operating at t재 frequencies of 25 and 100kHz, and using an echo-integration system connected with a micro-computer. Biological sampling was accomplished by bottom trawling to identify fish species recorded on the echo sounder, and the species and length compositions were determined. The values of scattering strength were allocated to group of fishes according to the fish traces on the echo recording paper and the species composition of trawl catches. The vertical velocities of migration derived from the changes in the depths and the values of peak scattering strength of the dense layer vertically migrating toward the bottom or toward the surface. The trawl data suggest that snailfish and fishing frog were the most abundant fishes in all research stations. As sunrise approached, the fish formed a strong concentration just above the thermocline. The the highest values of scattering strength in the entire water column appeared in the depth strata above the thermocline just before the begining of downward migration. As soon as the fish began to migrate downwards across the thermocline, the values of the scattering strength in the depth strata above the thermocline rapidly decreased, while the values for the scattering layer moving slowly toward the bottom gradually increased. During the 1992 surveys, the speed of the vertical migration was estimated to be 0.38m/min in the upward migration and 0.32m/min in the downward migration, respectively. That is the rate of vertical migration was slightly higher at dusk than at dawn. Similar migration patterns were observed on different stations and under different weather conditions during the surveys in 1990.

황해 중부에서 저층 트롤에 어획된 어류의 종조성 및 양적변동 (Quantitative Fluctuation and Species Composition of the Fish by Bottom Trawl in the Middle of Yellow Sea, Korea)

  • Fish, caught by bottom trawling in the middle of the Yellow sea (east of Korea), in the spring and summer of 2016 were assessed for species composition and fluctuation in their abundance. The fish were studied at four research stations (St.) and were found to be composed of 46 species, 31 families, and 14 orders. The dominant species caught were Engraulis japonicus, Larimichthys polyactis, Johnius grypotus, Liparis tanakae, and Larimicthys crocea. All the species were assessed for their numbers, richness, diversity, and dominance to gain a measure of the biodiversity. The highest number of individuals was recorded at St. 4 (50,053 individuals), while the lowest number of individuals was recorded at St. 1 (44,090 individuals). The evenness index was the highest at St. 2 (E = 0.65) and lowest at St. 3 (E = 0.62). The diversity index was the highest at St. 4 (H' = 2.31) and lowest at St. 3 (H' = 2.23). Furthermore, the dominance index was the highest at St. 3 (D = 54.9%) and lowest at St. 2 (D = 47.7%).

세존도 주변해역에 출현하는 저어류 군집의 종조성 (Species composition of the demersal fish assemblage in the coastal waters off Sejon island, Korea)

  • The study aims at analyzing a species composition of the fish live in bottom of the coastal waters off Sejon island, Korea. To reach the goal of the study, a species composition and it's seasonally fluctuation, a seasonally fluctuation of the dominant species and it's appearance type were analyzed with the fishes caught by the bottom trawl in the coastal waters off Sejon island from May, 2011 to March, 2012. The results obtained can be summarized as follows; Fish caught in this area composes 10 orders, 25 families, and 37 species. The most dominant species in an number of fish was Pennahia argentata which was occupied at 42.1% from the whole number, the second most dominant species was Konosirus punctatus which was occupied at 14.2%. The most dominant species in a biomass of fish was Pennahia argentata which was 31.3% out of the whole catch, the next dominant species was Lophius litulonwhich which was 18.2%. The first group (Trichiurus lepturus, Zeus faber, Pennahia argentata, Chelidonichthys spinosus and Lophius litulon) was appeared at May, August, October, the second group (Sphyraena pinguis) was appeared at May and November, the third group (Pampus argenteus) was appeared at August, the fourth group (Pampus echinogaster, Leiognathus nuchalis, Konosirus punctatus and Engraulis japonicus) was appeared at March.

The systematic sampling for inferring the survey indices of Korean groundfish stocks

  • The Korean bottom trawl survey has been deployed on a regular basis for about the last decade as part of groundfish stock assessments. The regularity indicates that they sample groundfish once per grid cell whose sides are half of one latitude and that of one longitude, respectively, and whose inside is furthermore divided into nine nested grids. Unless they have a special reason (e.g., running into a rocky bottom), their sample location is at the center grid of the nine nested grids. Given data collected by the survey, we intended to show how to appropriately estimate not only the survey index of a fish stock but also its uncertainty. For the regularity reason, we applied the systematic sampling theory for the above purposes and compared its results with a reference, which was based on the simple random sampling. When using the survey data about 11 fish stocks, collected by the spring and fall surveys in 2014, the survey indices of those stocks estimated under the systematic sampling were overall more precise than those under the simple random sampling. In estimates of the survey indices in number, the standard errors of those estimates under the systematic sampling were reduced from those under the simple random sampling by 0.23~27.44%, while in estimates of the survey indices in weight, they decreased by 0.04~31.97%. In bias of the estimates, the systematic sampling was the same as the simple random sampling. Our paper is first in formally showing how to apply the systematic sampling theory to the actual data collected by the Korean bottom trawl surveys.

동해구 트롤 어구어법의 개량 (Improvement of the Fishing Gear and Fishing Method of the East-Sea Trawl Fishery)

  • 동해구 트롤 어구어법을 개발하기 위하여 생력화 조업시스템을 개발하고, 생산성을 높이는 선택형 개량어구를 개발하는데 연구목표를 두었다. 생력화 조업시스템으로 폭 2.0m 1.8m인 네트드럼을 제작하고, 현용 와이어드럼에 와이어리더를 설비하여 생력화를 도모하였고, 선미에 겔로스를 설비하였다. 그 결과, 투양망시에 인력에 의한 그물을 들어올리거나 적재하는 일이 조업시스템으로 대체되어 선원들의 노동력은 기존의 것에 비하여 80% 정도 낮게 개선되었다. 또한, 중\ulcorner저층 겸용어구 A형과 저층용어구 B형을 개발하고, 단일 슬롯 V-만곡형 전개판을 설계\ulcorner제작하고, 네트레코더를 설치하여 1999년 9월말부터 2000년 5월까지 시험조업한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. A형의 망고는 중층예망시 약 30-35 m이나 저층예망에서는 19-20 m이며, 망폭은 29-31 m 정도로 추정되었으며, 저층예망시 전개판의 수중위치는 해저에서 10 m 정도 위쪽에 위치하고 있는 것이 확인되었다. 2. A형의 저층예망시의 기관 부하는 어구의 유체저항이 커서 재래식에서 보다 10rpm 정도가 더 요구되었다. 3. A형의 어획성능은 4시간 정도 예망하였을 때 분홍새우의 어획량이 재래식 어구에 비하여 약 3배정도가 더 많았고, 선택성이 매우 강한 특성을 보였다. 4. A형 어구에 의하여 어획된 분홍새우는 상품성이 우수하여 타선의 것보다 상자당 3,000-7,000원 정도 고가로 위판되었으며, 동급의 기존 트롤선에 비하여 생산성이 약 30%정도 향상된 것으로 나타났다. 5. A형 어구에 의한 조업에서는 펄을 뜨는 일은 전혀 없으며, 재래식 그물에서 대량으로 올라오는 불가사리나 기타 쓰레기 등이 거의 입망되지 않으므로, 어획물의 처리과정이 용이하여 선원의 노동력도 크게 절감할 수 있었다. 6. 천장망 길이가 약 23 m인 B형은 망고가 약 10 m, 망폭이 약 33m로 각각 추정되었으며, 예망시의 기관 부하도 예망속도 2.5노트까지는 큰 무리 없이 조업이 가능하였다. 7. B형의 어획성능은 새우의 어획량이 재래식 어구를 사용하는 어선에 비하여 5배 이상으로 나타났고, 청어는 약 2배정도 많은 것으로 확인되었으며, 기타 어류의 어획도 약 2배가 많았으나, 고등류, 문어류, 그리고 게류의 어획은 거의 없어서 선택성이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 8. B형의 생산량과 생산액은 재래식에 비하여 약 1.1배와 1.7배로 크게 나타나서 어업의 생산성이 크게 개선되었다. 동해구트롤어업의 합리적인 운용을 위하여 청어, 가자미, 게, 오징어 등의 어종을 효율적으로 어획할 수 있도록 어구의 기능을 확대하여야 할 것이고, 조업에 막대한 지장을 주고 있는 해파리의 탈출을 위한 그리드(grid)의 적용이 필요하다. 나아가 이 개량어구의 보급이 확산되면 분홍새우의 남획은 피할 수 없을 것이므로 합리적인 어획을 위한 자원관리방안이 확립되어야 할 것으로 보아진다.

저층 트롤어구의 유수저항 특성 및 모형 실험시의 축척비 영향 (Flow resistance of bottom trawl nets and scale effect in their model experiments)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the flow resistance of the bottom trawl net. The bottom trawl net being used in the training ship of Chonnam National University was selected as a full-scale net, and model nets such as 1/10, 1/25 and 1/50 of the actual net were made. Total resistance of the net part, the height of the net mouth and the flow resistance of components of the net such as wing, bag and cod-end part was measured, converted into full-scale and compared. Additionally, the model rule of Tauti (1934), which has been most frequently used in fishing net modeling experiments, was applied to interpret flow resistance and scale effect of model experiment was investigated. Presumed that the flow resistance R is $R=kS{\upsilon}^2$ against the flow velocity of each net ${\upsilon}$, resistance coefficient k was calculated by substituting R, ${\upsilon}$ and S of the net. From the result, it was found that k decreases exponentially when u increases which makes $k=c{\upsilon}^{-m}$. Whereas m of each net is ranged between 0.13-0.16 and there was not significant difference between nets. c does not show big difference in 1/10 and 1/25 model and the value itself was relatively bigger than in 1/50 model. The height of the net mouth of 1/25 and 1/50 model net h decreases exponentially according as ${\upsilon}$ increases to make $h=d{\upsilon}^{-n}$. Whereas d and n values were almost same in two nets. Additionally, when resistance of cod-end, wing and bag part in 1/25 and 1/50 model nets, both nets showed big resistance in bag part when flow is 1m/s as more than 60%. Wing and cod-end part showed almost same value or wing part had little bit larger value. On the other hand, when reviewing the reasons why both models showed difference in 1/50 model while c value against the resistance coefficient k did not show big difference in 1/10 and 1/25 model, it is inferred that the difference occurred not from material difference but from the difference in net size according to scale. It was judged that they are the scale effects concomitant to the model experiments.

음향에 의한 어족생물의 자원조사 연구 - I - 어군반사강도의 추정 - (Fish Stock Assessment by Hydroacoustic Methods and its Applications - I - Estimation of Fish School Target Strength -)

  • 우리나라 연근해 해역에 대한 어족생물의 자원평가 및 그 관리를 위한 기초자료를 수집하기 위한 연구의 일환으로 동중국해를 대상으로 계량어군탐지기 및 트롤조업에 의해 수집된 어족생물의 음향학적 조사자료 및 수조실험자료 등을 종합적으로 분석하여 조사대상해역에 대한 어족생물의 어군반사강도를 추정한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 1994년 4월에 제주도 남서방 해역에서 50kHz의 주파수에 대하여 측정한 트롤 예망층에 대한 어군의 평균체적산란강도(, dB)와 그 때의 트롤조업에 의해 어획한 단위체적당의 어획량(C, $kg/\textrm{m}^3$)과의 사이에는 다음의 회귀직선식을 얻었다. = -32.4+10Log(C) 이 식에서 어획물 1kg당에 대한 어군의 평균반사강도의 추정치는 = - 32.4dB/kg이었다. 2. 1989~1992년의 11월중에 동중국해에서 25kHz와 100kHz의 주파수에 대한 트롤 예망층의 평균체적산란강도(, dB)와 단위체적당의 어획량(C, $kg/\textrm{m}^3$)과의 사이에는 다음의 회귀직선식을 얻었다. 25kHz : = - 29.8+10Log(C) 100kHz : = - 31.7+10Log(C) 이들 식에서 25kHz와 100kHz의 주파수에 대한 어획물 1kg당에 대한 어군의 평균반사강도의 추정치는 각각 -29.8dB/kg, -3.7dB/kg으로서, 25kHz에 대한 어군반사강도의 값이 100kHz에 대한 그 값보다 1.9dB 더 컸다. 3. 트롤조업에 의해 어획한 강달이, 말쥐치, 갈전갱이, 민태, 병어, 황돔, 민어, 고등어, 샛돔, 전갱이 등을 대상으로 25kHz와 100kHz의 주파수에서 측정한 어체의 평균반사강도와 체중과의 사이에는 다음의 회귀직선식을 얻었다. 25kHz : TS = - 34.0+10Log($W^{\frac{2}{3}}$) 100kHz : TS = - 37.8+10Log($W^{\frac{2}{3}}$) 이들 식에서 25 kHz와 100kHz의 주파수에 대한 어체의 1kg 당에 대한 평균반사강도의 측정치는 각각 -34.0dB/kg, -37.8dB/kg로서, 25kHz에 대한 어체의 평균반사강도의 값이 100kHz에 대한 그 값보다 3.8dB 더 컸다. 4. 제주도 근해에서 어획한 보구치의 부레의 등가반경(A)에 대한 체장(L)의 비솔(A/L)는 체장이 증감함에 따라 약간 감소하는 경향을 보였고, 그 평균치은 0.089이었다. 이상의 트롤조업 및 어탐조사, 또한 실험수조에서 측정한 어체의 반사강도를 종합적으로 고찰 할 때, 동중국해의 어업자원을 평가함에 있어 적용 할 수 있는 어군 1kg당에 대한 평균적인 반사강도는 25kHz와 100kHz의 주파수에 대하여 각각 -31.4dB/kg, -33.8dB/kg이라고 추정된다.

Report on Unknown Form, hitherto, of the Genus Octopus from Eastern Coast of Korea

  • A specimen of the unknown form of Octopus species was collected from Onsan, Kyungsangnam-do, eastern coast of Korea on 20th June 2004 with a bottom trawl. The specimen distinguished from the other Octopus species reported hitherto by its extremely short 2nd pair of arm and hectocotilization of the right 4th arm. It may be described, therefore, as new species, but only one specimen was collected unfortunately. A new name will be deferred, consequently, until more specimens will be available in the future.
