  • Magneto-rheological polishing is a new technology used in precision polishing. It utilizes magneto-rheological fluid. nonmagnetic polishing abrasive, aqueous carrier fluids in magnetic field to remove material from a part surface. Silicon micro channel as work piece is fixed in the slurry which is made of MR fluid and CeO$_2$(10 vol%) abrasive particles. And permanent magnet rotate in the slurry to transfers magnetic force to abrasive particles by increasing yield strength of MR fluid. so, the obtained bottom surface roughness of micro channel by experiment reduced to Ra 0.010 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Rmax 0.103 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and finwall surface roughness of micro channel reduced to Ra 0.018 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Rmax 0.468 $\mu\textrm{m}$. At optimum conditions of variables, the workpiece as silicon micro channel have about 24 times smaller surface roughness than before polishing.

  • The study was carried out to investigate the dimension of irrigation canal, and measure the water flow of those diverted from Kimje main canal in Dongjin irrigation area. The rating curves indicating the relationships between water level and discharge of the lateral canals were induced using the measured data with high regression coefficients of 0.957~0.999 at inlet points and 0.932~0.998 at end points, respectively. And Manning's roughness coefficients were estimated as the ranged from 0.015 to 0.074 at inlet points and 0.056 to 0.089 at end points with rectangular type of concrete open irrigation canals, the Manning's roughness coefficients of the end points were less than those values of the end points, which may be considered as the deposition of the bottom sediments.

  • This report is researched on the cause and mechanism of soil erosion in comparison among Kwangnung, Mt. Kaya, Mt. Chili, and Mt. Soorak by physical and chemical analyses of their for- est soils. Clay, silt, and fine sand of Mt. Soorak are far less than those of Mt. Chili, Mt. Kaya, and Kwangnung area while coarse sand is very high level. The clay ratio of soil at Mt. Soorak is the most high level in comparison with that of other area. Denudation at Mt. Soorak, therefore, is cause of erosion by the result of transportation of soil particles. The eroding velocity increase for larger particle size and stronger cohesion between soil particles. Very fine sand, silt, and clay can be present in suspension near the bottom and the size of the particles in suspension depends upon the velocity of the current near the bottom and the roughness of the bottom. Key words: Theoretical analyses, Soil erosion and conservation, Forest soils.

  • Performance assessment of pavements proves useful, in terms of handling the ride quality, controlling the travel time of vehicles and adequate maintenance of pavements. Roughness profiles provide a good measure of the deteriorating condition of the pavement. For the accurate estimates of pavement roughness from dynamic vehicle responses, vehicle parameters should be known accurately. Information on vehicle parameters is uncertain, due to the wear and tear over time. Hence, condition monitoring of pavement requires the identification of pavement roughness along with vehicle parameters. The present study proposes a scheme which estimates the roughness profile of the pavement with the use of accurate estimates of vehicle parameters computed in parallel. Pavement model used in this study is a two-layer Euler-Bernoulli beam resting on a nonlinear Pasternak foundation. The asphalt topping of the pavement in the top layer is modeled as viscoelastic, and the base course bottom layer is modeled as elastic. The viscoelastic response of the top layer is modeled with the help of the Burgers model. The vehicle model considered in this study is a half car model, fitted with accelerometers at specified points. The identification of the coupled system of vehicle-pavement interaction employs a coupled scheme of an unbiased minimum variance estimator and an optimization scheme. The partitioning of observed noisy quantities to be used in the two schemes is investigated in detail before the analysis. The unbiased minimum variance estimator (MVE) make use of a linear state-space formulation including roughness, to overcome the linearization difficulties as in conventional nonlinear filters. MVE gives estimates for the unknown input and fed into the optimization scheme to yield estimates of vehicle parameters. The issue of ill-posedness of the problem is dealt with by introducing a regularization equivalent term in the objective function, specifically where a large number of parameters are to be estimated. Effect of different objective functions is also studied. The outcome of this research is an overall measure of pavement condition.

  • Cross-geometrical Cr/Co/Al-Ox/Co/Ni-Fe tunnel junctions were fabricated by magnetron sputtering. To form an insulating layer, The Al layer was oxidized in an atmosphere of oxygen-argon mixture at low power after deposition. To enhance the coercivity of the bottom Co layer, The Cr seed layer was deposited on the glass and it led to increase in coercivity. The coercivity increase is due to the increase of roughness through the Cr thickness. In over oxidation time, the oxidation of Co bottom layer and flat interface of insulator can increase the bottom Co coercivity. But TMR ratio gradually decrease. TMR ratio is relevant with Cr thickness, insulator thickness, and oxidation time. The maximum TMR ratio was 14% at room temperature and the TMR ratio was decreased to half at 0.51 V.

  • Effects of bottom electrode materials (Al, Cu, Ti, and Mo), included in film bulk acoustic resonators (FBARs), on the orientation of piezoelectric AlN thin films and the frequency response characteristic of resonators were investigated. The texture coefficient (TC) for (002) orientation, crystallite size, full width half maximum (FWHM), and surface roughness of deposited AlN films were measured for the various bottom electrodes. The return tosses estimated from the frequency responses of fabricated resonators were also compared. Experimental results showed that the difference of lattice constant and thermal expansion coefficient between the bottom electrode and the AlN film were the most important factors for achieving a high performance resonator.

  • NiCr alloys are prepared onto poly-Si/ $SiO_2$/Si substrates to replace Pt bottom electrode with a new one for integration of high dielectric constant materials. Alloys deposited at Ni and Cr power of 40 and 40 W showed optimum properties in the composition of N $i_{1.6}$C $r_{1.0}$. The grain size of films increases with increasing deposition temperature. The films deposited at 50$0^{\circ}C$ showed a severe agglomeration due to homogeneous nucleation. The NiCr alloys from the rms roughness and resistivity data showed a thermal stability independent of increasing annealing temperature. The 80 nm thick BST films deposited onto N $i_{1.6}$C $r_{1.0}$/poly-Si showed a dielectric constant of 280 and a dissipation factor of about 5 % at 100 kHz. The leakage current density of as-deposited BST films was about 5$\times$10$^{-7}$ A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at an applied voltage of 1 V. The NiCr alloys are possible to replace Pt bottom electrode with new one to integrate f3r high dielectric constant materials.terials.

  • Measurements of bottom backscattering strengths in a frequency range of 6-14 kHz were made on the shallow water off the southern Gyeonggi Bay in Yellow Sea in May 2013, as part of the KIOST-HYU joint acoustics experiment. Geological surveys for the experimental area were performed using multi-beam echo sounder, sparker system, and grab sampling to investigate the bottom topography, sub-bottom profile and composition of surficial sediment, respectively. In this paper, the backscattering strengths as a function of grazing angle (in range of $28^{\circ}{\sim}69^{\circ}$) were estimated and compared to the predictions obtained by Lambert's law and APL-UW scattering model. Finally, the effects of geoacoustic parameters corresponding to the experimental area on the backscattering strengths are discussed.

  • Conducting perovskite oxide, $(Ba,Sr)RuO_3(BSR)$, which has many advantages for $(Ba,Sr)TiO_3(BST)$ due to their similarity in crystal structure, lattice constant and chemical composition, was prepared on n-type Si (100) by liquid delivery metalorganic chemical vapor deposition(LDMOCVD). The deposition characteristics of BSR were controlled by gas-phase mass-transfer in the experiment. The BSR films deposited at 50$0^{\circ}C$ and oxygen flow rate of 100 sccm(standard cc/min) showed an average roughness of 22 $\AA$and resistivity of 810 $\mu$$\Omega$-cm. The roughness of BSR films with oxygen flow rate showed a close relationship with the resistivity of films. BSR (110) peak shifted toward lower Bragg angle with increase of x in the$(Ba_x,Sr_{1-x})TiO_3$. The resistivity of BSR films increased from 810 to 924 $\mu$$\Omega$-cm with increase of Ba content(x).

  • A cyclone is an effective tool to facilitate the collection of aerosol particles without using filters, and in cell exposure studies is able to collect a sufficient amount of aerosol particles to evaluate their adverse health effect. In this study, we examined two different methods to improve the aerosol particle collection efficiency of a cyclone. The individual and combined effects of reducing the surface roughness of the inner wall of the cyclone and of using a circular cone attachment were tested. The collection efficiency of particles of diameter $0.2{\mu}m$ was improved by approximately 10% when using a cyclone with a smoothened inner wall (average roughness $Ra=0.08{\mu}m$) compared with the original cyclone ($Ra=5.1{\mu}m$). A circular cone attachment placed between the bottom section of the cyclone and the top section of a collection bottle, resulted in improved collection of smaller particles without the attachment. The 50% cutoff diameter of the modified cyclone (combined use of smoothened inner wall and attachment) was $0.23{\mu}m$ compared to $0.28{\mu}m$ in the original model. The combined use of these two techniques resulted in improved collection efficiency of aerosol particles.
