This study was performed to investigate the electromyographic(EMG) activity, firing time and sequence of the mandibular elevator muscle on gum chewing. For this study, 28 patients with temporomandibular disorders(TMD), especially internal derangement of TM joint, and 16 dental students without any signs and symptoms in the masticatory system were selected as the patients group and as the normal group, respectively. The patients group was composed of 14 right and 14 left side affected patients. For recording of EMG activity(${\mu}V$) of the anterior temporalis(TA) and the masseter muscle(MM), and measuring of firing time(millisecond) from the start of mandibular opening movement to the firing of the muscles, BioEMG, BioEGN, and Combo program integrated in the Biopak system(Bioresearch Inc., Milwaukee, USA) were used. Gum chewing stroke was performed in both right and left side for several times, and the first and the second chewing strokes were analysed and compared with regard to EMG activity, firing time, firing sequence, correlation between EMG activity and firing time. The data obtained were analysed by SPSS windows program and the results of this study were as follows : 1. In the patients group, chewing on the affected side showed higher EMG activities in the masseter of the side than those of the contralateral side, but chewing on the unaffected side showed higher EMG activity in the masseter and in the anterior temporalis of the side than those of the contralateral side. 2. There were no difference of firing time between both sides on chewing on the affected side, but firing time in the chewing side were earlier than that of contralateral side on chewing on the unaffected side in patients group. 3. In the normal group, EMG activities in the masseter and in the anterior temporalis in the chewing side were always higher than those of the contralateral side, and there were no difference of firing time between the two sides. 4. In general, firing sequence of four muscles of both sides were ipsilateral TA, ipsilateral MM, contralateral TA, and contralateral MM in earlier order of time in both groups. Correlation coefficients between EMG activity and firing time were negative value, and more significant correlation were appeared in the normal group than in the patients group.

Achieving efficient authentication is a crucial issue for stream data commonly seen in content delivery, peer-to-peer, and multicast/broadcast networks. Stream authentication mechanisms need to be operated efficiently at both sender-side and receiver-side at the same time because of the properties of stream data such as real-time and delay-sensitivity. Until now, many stream authentication mechanisms have been proposed, but they are not efficient enough to be used in stream applications where the efficiency for sender and receiver sides are required simultaneously since most of them could achieve one of either sender-side and receiver-side efficiency. In this paper, we propose an efficient stream authentication mechanism, so called TIM, by integrating Trapdoor Hash Function and Merkle Hash Tree. Our construction can support efficient streaming data processing at both sender-side and receiver-side at the same time differently from previously proposed other schemes. Through theoretical and experimental analysis, we show that TIM can provide enhanced performance at both sender and receiver sides compared with existing mechanisms. Furthermore, TIM provides an important feature for streaming authentication, the resilience against transmission loss, since each data block can be verified with authentication information contained in itself.
Purpose: To evaluate the difference of the movement of the mandibular condyles between trans cranial and panoramic TMJ radiographs to view the movement of the mandibular condyles. Materials and Methods: Thirty-four paired transcranial and panoramic TMJ radiographs of patients were used to evaluate the movement of the mandibular condyle. The distances, from the most superior point of the mandibular condyle to the most inferior point of the articular eminence on both radiographs, were measured. The measurements were taken at closed state and maximum opening state of each radiograph on both side. Differences between matched pairs were analysed by paired t-test, with significance established at P<0.05. Results and Conclusion: The mean distance, from the most superior point of the mandibular condyle to the most inferior point of the articular eminence on both radiographs, was statistically different at each side (P<0.05). At closing state, the mean distance measured on panoramic TMJ radiographs was longer than on transcranial radio-graphs (0.85 mm at right side, 1.20 mm at left side). But at maximum opening state, the mean distance on transcranial radiographs was longer (1.00 mm at right side, 0.62 mm at left side) than panoramic TMJ radiographs.
The author measured the right and left craniofacial skeleton using posteroanterior cephalography of 124 male and 97 female subjects of ages ranging 2-6 years, 7-13 years and adult group on Korean. Statstical parameters were calculated by computer from the data. The results of the study were as follows. 1. In the male and female group of deciduous dentition, the right side measurements were slightly greater than the left side measurements, and generally male measurements were greater than female measurements. 2. In the both sex group of mixed dentition, the right side measurements were greater than the left side measurements, and in comparision of sex, the female recognized more growth, and development than male, especially on the cranial base, lateral maxilla, lower maxilla and dental region. 3. In the permanent dentition group, regardless of sex, the right side measurements were greater than the left side measurements, and in the sex difference, male was conspicuously greater than female on both sides measurements. 4. In the permanent dentition group, the asymmetry of the face was striking than deciduous dentition and mixed dentition group.

In order to investigate the effects of the variables during the stamping process upon the side wall curl behavior, experiments and finite element analyses were done using a 90 degree draw-bending test. The variables considered were the die radius, the forming speed, the restraint force, the lubrication and the sheet grade. The experiments and simulation conditions were selected according to the design of experiment (DOE) approach. The effects of the restraint force, the lubrication and the forming speed were the same for both high strength and mild steels, but the effects of the die radius on the side wall curl were dependent on the magnitude of the die radius and the sheet grade. A straight side wall was observed for both high strength and mild steels when the die radius was about 2∼3 times of the sheet thickness. It was recommended that the restraint force, the forming speed and the friction be increased in order to reduce the side wall curl.
This study was performed to investigate the effect of mandibular midline shift and difference of mandibular height between both sides on the electromyo- graphic(EMG) activity of the masticatory muscles on clenching or gum chewing movement. For this study, 105 patients with temporomandibular disorders(TMD) were selected and panoramic radiograph were taken. Amount and side of the midline shift and height of the mandible from antegonial notch to the top of the condylar head were measured on panoramic view. $BioEMG^{(R)}$ (Bioresearch Inc., Milwaukee, USA) was used for recording of EMG activity(${\mu}V$) of the anterior temporalis and the superficial masseter on clenching or gum chewing movement. EMG activity on clenching during 533msec period were measured for activity of the starting point and the one second-after activity as the early EMG and the maximum EMG, respectively. EMG activity on gum chewing movement were measured for activity of the first and the second chewing stroke. The data collected were analysed by SPSS windows program, and the results of this study were as follows : 1. Height of the mandible was 8.06cm on right side and 8.03cm on left side, and showed no difference by age, but significantly differed by sex with higher in male subjects. 2. Mean value of the midline shift was 0.1mm with range of 0~5mm on both sides. The amount and side of the midline shift did not related with height difference of the mandible and/or the EMG activity of the masticatory muscles on clenching. 3. Prevalence of higher right side and higher left side of the mandible were almost same, and the EMG activity of higher side was not higher than that of the other side. 4. In the subjects with height difference of more than 5mm between both sides of the mandible, the early EMG activity on clenching were differed for the anterior temporalis, but the maximum activity were differed for the superficial masseter. 5. In the subjects with height difference of more than 5mm between both sides of the mandible, EMG activity of the anterior temporalis of the gum chewing side was not higher than that of the other side when chewing on the side of lower height, but in the subjects with height difference of less than 5mm, the EMG activity was higher than that of the other side.
Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the effects of Mulligan's mobilization with movement (MWM) on changes in the talofibular interval in the sagittal plane in subjects with chronic ankle instability (CAI). Methods: Sixteen subjects with chronic ankle instability participated in this study. The talofibular intervals were measured from US images, and the weight-bearing lunge test was used to assess dorsiflexion of the ankle joint. Each dependent variable were measured on the both affected side and sound side in three trials in pre- and post-MWM. Dependent variables were examined with a two-way mixed-design analysis of variance (ANOVA). The two factors were side (sound side versus affected side) and intervention (pre- versus post-intervention). For post hoc analysis, paired t-tests were performed to compare the dependent variables. A p<0.05 was considered to indicate significance. Results: Dorsiflexion and talofibular interval differed significantly pre- and post-intervention (p<0.05). Post-hoc analysis revealed that the talofibular interval post-MWM was significantly less than that pre-MWM on the both the affected and sound side (p<0.05). The ankle dorsiflexion in the post-MWM group was significantly greater than that in the pre-MWM group on the affected side and the sound side (p<0.05). Conclusion: The Mulligan's MWM decreased the talofibular interval in subjects with CAI. These findings suggest that the MWM technique can change the position of the talus relative to the fibular in the weight bearing position.
This study used an unstable platform to change the support surface type and position of both lower limbs in order to determine changes in weight distribution and muscle including the vastus medialis, tibialis anterior, lateral hamstring, and lateral gastrocnemius of both lower limbs were evaluated during knee joint flexing and extending in a semi-squat movement in 32 hemiplegic patients. The support surface conditions applied to the lower limbs were divided into four categories: condition 1 had a stable platform for both lower limbs; condition 2 had an unstable platform for the non-hemiplegic side and a stable platform for the hemiplegic side; condition 3 had a stable platform for the non-hemiplegic side and an unstable platform for the hemiplegic side; and condition 4 had an unstable platform for both sides. The normalized EMG activity levels of muscles and weight bearing ratio of both sides in the four surface conditions were compared using repeated measures ANOVA. A significant increase was found in the weight support distribution for the hemiplegic side in flexing and extending sessions in condition 2 compared to the other conditions (p<.05). A statistically significant decrease in significant decrease in asymmetrical weight bearing in flexing and extending sessions was observed for condition 2 compared to the other conditions (p<.05). A similar significant decrease was found in differences in muscular activity for both lower limbs in condition 2 (p<.05). The muscular activity of the hemiplegic side, based on the support surface for each muscle showed a significantly greater increase in condition 2 (p<.05). An unstable platform for the non-hemiplegic side and a stable platform for the hemiplegic side therefore increased symmetry in terms of the weight support distribution rate and muscle activity of lower limbs in hemiplegic patients. The problem of postural control due to asymmetry in hemiplegic patients should be further studied with the aim of developing continuous effects of functional training based on the type and position of the support surfaces and functional improvement.
This study was designed to investigate the stress distribution of alveolar bone in case of on masse retraction with lingual K-loop archwire using the 3-dimensional photoelastic stress analysis followed by stress freezing process. Lingual K-loop archwire which had loop in 15mm height was used and activated by retraction force of 350gm per each side. The results were as follows 1. Central incisor : As the closer side to crown, the larger tensile stress was distributed at both mesial and labial surfaces and the larger compressive stress was distributed at distal surface. As the closer side to root apex, the larger compressive stress was distributed at lingual surface. The compressive stress was distributed at root apex. 2. Lateral incisor : The tensile stress was distributed at the coronal side of mesial surface. The compressive stress was distributed at distal surface. As the closer side to crown, the larger tensile stress was distributed at labial surface. The tensile stress was distributed at coronal side and the compressive stress was distributed at apical side of lingual surface. The compressive stress was distributed at root apex. 3. Canine The tensile stress was distributed at coronal side and the compressive stress was distributed at apical side of mesial surface. The tensile stress was distributed at distal surface. As the closer side to crown, the larger tensile stress was distributed at both mesial and distal surfaces. The compressive stress was distributed at root apex. 4. Second premolar : The tensile stress was distributed at mesial surface. The compressive stress was distributed at coronal side and the tensile stress was distributed at apical side of distal surface. The compressive stress was distributed at coronal side of buccal surface. As the closer side to crown, the larger tensile stress was distributed at lingual surface. The compressive stress was distributed at root apex. 5. First molar . As the closer side to crown, the larger tensile stress was distributed at both mesial and distal surfaces. No stress was distributed at buccal surface and palatal root apex. As the closer side to crown, the larger tensile stress was distributed at both lingual surfaces. The compressive stress was distributed a4 buccal root apexes. 6. Second molar The compressive stress was distributed at all root apexes. As the closer side to crown, the larger compressive stress was distributed at both mesial and lingual surfaces, and the larger tensile stress at both distal and buccal surfaces. Transverse bowing effect was observed in on-masse retraction with lingual K-loop archwire, however vertical towing effect was not. Rather, reverse vortical bowing effect was developed.
This paper presents a quasi-steady model of vibrations of two cylinders in a side-by-side arrangement. The cylinders have flexible support and equal diameters. The model assumes that both cylinders participate in the process of vibration, each of them having two degrees of freedom. The movement of cylinders is described by a set of four non-linear differential equations. These equations are evaluated on the basis of a numerical simulation and experimental data. Moreover many features of cylinder vibrations are found from numerical results and are described in this paper.
