Development of the Recommender System of Arabic Books Based on the Content Similarity

  • This research article develops an Arabic books' recommendation system, which is based on the content similarity that assists users to search for the right book and predict the appropriate and suitable books pertaining to their literary style. In fact, the system directs its users toward books, which can meet their needs from a large dataset of Information. Further, this system makes its predictions based on a set of data that is gathered from different books and converts it to vectors by using the TF-IDF system. After that, the recommendation algorithms such as the cosine similarity, the sequence matcher similarity, and the semantic similarity aggregate data to produce an efficient and effective recommendation. This approach is advantageous in recommending previously unrated books to users with unique interests. It is found to be proven from the obtained results that the results of the cosine similarity of the full content of books, the results of the sequence matcher similarity of Arabic titles of the books, and the results of the semantic similarity of English titles of the books are the best obtained results, and extremely close to the average of the result related to the human assigned/annotated similarity. Flask web application is developed with a simple interface to show the recommended Arabic books by using cosine similarity, sequence matcher similarity, and semantic similarity algorithms with all experiments that are conducted.

중고등학교 필독도서목록에 관한 연구 (A study on the list of must books in middle schools)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the necessity, selection, organization and management of Must Books List in middle schools. A great book can change a person's life and future. Especially, reading in the juvenile period is important because of their intellectual curiosity and sensitivity. The results of the study were as follows: 1. The necessity of Must Books can be considered in two perspectives : One is the cultivation of emotion and sense of value and the other is the development of information abilities. 2. The general criteria for the selection of Must Books are whether a book is su n.0, pportive of learning activities, of extracurricular activities, and of activities for school festivals. And whether a book is contributing to the building of good characters of students or not should be considered, too. 3. The special attention should be given to such matters as the organizational and distributional ratio among subjects of the Must Books, the degree of difficulties, the ratio of books for both male and female students, the ratio of foreign books to domestics, the possibilities of further reading and the bibliographical matters. 4. The points to be duly considered for the management of Must Books List are the educational considerations, clearness of objectives, the elimination of commercialism and authoritarianism in the book selection. The Must Books List should be managed autonomously, depending on the characteristics of each school and be updated annually. However, the most important thing is that the teacher should be a good reader himself. 5. It is better to include short stories than the long one in the Must Book List. Students should be guided to read explanatory text first and then to move to the original text. And they should be exposed to books in various subjects and not to be too dependent on the Must Books List. They should be able to develop the problem solving ability through the reading of the Must Books. 6. Finally, the Must Books selection committee should be composed of both teacher librarian and subject teachers. It is desirable that books for the cultivation of emotion, for the establishment of sense of value, and for the development of information ability should be selected by consulting the various reading lists compiled by the Ministry of Education, the Board of Local Education and other authorities concerned.

교양명저 선정제도

  • This paper is a study of the system of liberal great books selection in universities of Korea. A questionnaire consisted of 14 questions was sent to 46 universities of which 42 universities responded. Results of the study can be summarized as follows: 1) Liberal great books selection system was operated 40% of universities, but 60% was not operated because of not preparation and without perception of necessity. 2) The name of liberal great books was varied in 11 kinds of 16 universities. It is desirable that the name is unified. 3) The founded year of liberal great books selection system was new comparatively with enhanced liberal education. 4) The greater part of liberal great books format were a leaf of catalog, but it is desirable that book form catalog with review for induction of reading interests. 5) It is desirable that renewal of liberal great books are irregularly in answer to a need. 6) It is a n.0, ppeared that selection of liberal great books were by professor, but it is desirable that selection is by many people of all parts without prejudices and subjectivity. 7) The title of liberal great books were 121 titles in average. It is desirable that the titles are about 100 titles for expected results. 8) In a duplicates of liberal great books, 5 copy is much more than other cases. It is desirable that the duplicates depend on students, use rates, budget etc. of universities. 9) Use rates of liberal great books are much more than other books, but it is necessary that public relations and stimulation of reading for most use. 10) In subject analysis, liberal great books consisted of humanities, social sciences and novel mainly. Specially, literature is 33% of the total. 11) Liberal great books consisted of occidental works and literature mainly. 12) It is a n.0, ppeared that analysis of a n.0, ppointment frequency was scattered exceedingly.

e-Book 이용실태와 발전 전망 (Current Use of e-Books and their Development Perspective)

  • 이 연구에서는 전자책 수용자조사 자료를 통해 전자책에 대한 이용실태와 나아가 수용자들이 전자책의 향후 발전 전망을 어떻게 진단하고 있는지 밝혀보고자 했다. 그리고 전자책의 향후 활성화 방안을 제시해 보고자 했다. 연구결과 전자책 이용자의 저변확대는 이루어져 있었다. 그러나 전자책은 아직 수용자들에게 잘 알려져 있지 않았고 주로 무료사이트를 이용하는 수준에 머물러 이용이 활성화 되어 있지 않았다. 그리고 전자책의 이용경험 유무가 이용행태에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치고 있었다. 또한 전자책 수용자들은 전자책의 발전전망을 종이책보다 훨씬 밝게 보았고, 전자책 이용경험이 있는 수용자가 경험이 없는 수용자보다 전자책의 발전전망을 밝게 진단하고 있었다. 따라서 전자책 이용의 활성화를 위해서는 전자책에 대한 접근성 제고, 홍보의 강화, 내용에 대한 신뢰성 제고, 가격의 인하, 다양한 컨텐츠 개발, 가독성을 높일 수 있는 편집체제 변화, 눈의 피로를 막을 수 있는 화면의 개발 등이 선행되어야 한다.

소규모 대학도서관의 전자책 이용실태에 관한 연구 - D대학교도서관을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Status of e-Books Usage in Small University Library: Focusing on the D University Library)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 소규모 대학도서관의 전자책 이용실태를 조사, 분석하고 이를 통해 소규모 대학도서관의 전자책 관련 정책과 이용에 대한 시사점을 제시하기 위한 것이다. 본 연구를 위해 지방의 한 소규모대학교의 재학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 259명의 유효응답을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 종이책과 전자책의 선호도에서 아직은 전자책의 선호도(12%)보다 종이책의 선호도(71%)가 더 높은 것으로 나타났으나, 전자책을 이용해본 경험이 있는 경우 전자책의 이용 만족도(45.6%)가 종이책의 이용 만족도(27.9%)보다 더 높게 나타났다. 또한, 전자책을 일반독서 용도로 사용할 때 만족도가 가장 높게 나타났으며, 사용 기기는 태블릿을 사용하는 것을 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 소규모 대학도서관에서의 전자책서비스 운영 정책 및 홍보 계획의 수립, 이용자에게 친숙한 전자책서비스 이용 환경의 제공, 다양한 주제의 전자책 확보, 전자책 이용 목적에 부합하는 전용 단말기의 제공, 대학 간 전자책 공동 이용 연합체의 구성 등의 시사점을 제안하였다.

Translated Picture Books in Korea from 1969 to 2012

  • This study aims to explore the characteristics of translated picture books in South Korea and their cultural meanings over a five-decade period. This time can broadly be divided into three periods, being the Settlement Period (pre-1990), the Flourishing Years (1991-2000) and Globalization (post-2001). During the Settlement Period, picture books in South Korea were derived mainly from Japan and America and tended to be informational in nature or based on folk tales. These were translated into Korean to meet the public's curiosity for foreign cultures or for scientific information. The Flourishing Years were characterised by the availability of picture books on a wide variety on themes and forms from all over the world. In this period, the translation of books into Korean focused on a literal rendition of the meanings and sounds of names from the original text. There was also a proliferation of audiotapes, videos and TV programs based on famous picture books. In the current period of Globalization, Korean publishers, who have built confidence through studying foreign picture books over time, have increased efforts to produce their own picture books and export them abroad.

환상동화와 사실동화에 대한 유아의 반응 비교연구 - 소집단 그림책 읽기 활동을 중심으로 - (Responses of Kindergarten Children to Small Group Reading of Fantasy and Realistic Picture Books)

  • This study investigated the verbal responses of kindergarten children to fantasy and realistic picture books. The subjects were 60 five-year-old children divided into small groups of 4 children each. Each group was read four picture books of which two were fantasy and two were realistic. Transcripts of the children's responses were analyzed for number, content, and type of verbal response. Mean scores and standard deviations were measured and the data were analyzed by repeated one-way ANOVA. Results showed that the children showed (1) more verbal responses to the fantasy than to the realistic picture books. (2) They gave more verbal responses to fantasy picture books than to realistic books in terms of character, scene, event, and vocabulary. They also gave more verbal responses to fantasy picture books than to realistic books in terms of informative, heuristic, and imaginative types.

청소년의 정신건강 증진을 위한 독서치료에 활용될 수 있는 도서 탐색 (The Study of Exploring Quality Books for Bibliotherapy with Young People)

  • This study examined books of youngsters who struggled with typical problems in adolescent period. Literature could be used as an effective tool for helping young people cope with developmental change. In bibliotherapy, the counselor provides guidance in the solution of personal problems through directed reading. Young people would solve and overcome their problems after reading useful books. So we need to carefully select books for the Youth. Selecting high-quality books that match the young person's reading level and interest were very important. Twenty three books that offer solutions that are likely to be successful in the young people's situation were gathered by 322 participants. Method of collecting materials was through a questionnaire. In addition results based on obtaining books showed that counselors provided reading guidances and were concerned with quality materials.

을해자본과 그 방계자본고 (A comparative study of Ulhacha-printed versus imitating Ulhacha-printed books)

  • The primary purpose of this study is to compare a specific characteristic of Ulhacha -printed books with Imitating Ulhacha-printed books to distinguish from each others. Ulhacha was made in the first year of King Secho (1455) used before Hideyoshi's Invasion of Korea in 1592, there are many kinds books printed with it. For this reason, Ulhacha used to printed books for long period, the letters were worn down and must be filled up with su n.0, pplementary letters during the reign of King Chungchong and Myungchong. And at the early times of King Suncho, Many letters were su n.0, pplement and printed many kinds of books very neatly. Ulhacha-printed books were classified four sorts of books according to its characteristic to examine closely. From the latter half of the 16th century, the beginning of King Suncho, what is called Imitating Ulhacha-printed book, many copies of book were printed off imitated with Ulhacha. Imitating Ulhacha-printed books also classified four kinds of books according to its characteristic. Being glance at imitated letters, they were similar to Ulhacha and confused one thing with another. To distinguish Ulhacha-printed books from imitated letter ones, it is important to discriminate each others. Generally speaking, imitating Ulhacha letters were resemblant Ulhacha closely, it is not easy to distinguish Ulhascha from imitated letter. But they have a tendency to exhibit more thin style than Ulhacha and different from its size. Out of Ulhacha-printed books, the big letters in Hunsa printed in the 7th years of reign of King Secho and Hangulcha in Kumgang panya paramil kyong samgahae printed in the 13th years of the reign of King Sung chong come in to question. Nevertheless the big letters in Hunsa is consider to be that of Ulhacha and Hangucha in Kumgang panya paramil kyong samgahae also to be Ulhacha mixed with Hang lcha, disagreement of opinions has been opted to give rise to problem. In order to verify such a problem, it is more convenient to use OHP film copied those letters than the naked eyes. As a result of collating with OHP film, the problem was proven to be above-mentioned.

중학교 가정교과서의 국제비교 연구 (An International Comparative Study on Home Economics Text Books of Middle School)

  • This study was conducted to compare the outward aspects, objectives, and the contents of Home Economics text books of middle schools of Korea, Japan, U.S.A. and England. The results were summarized as follows. 1. The outward aspects of tex books: The Korean text books were small in size and the quality of paper was inferior to those of foreign countries. The Japanese text books were written by many authors, contained many lab works and data. Text books of U.S.A. were big in size made with good quality paper and contained many colour pictures. Text books England contained many problems and lab works. 2. Objectives of the Home Economics and Unit objectives: The objective of the subjects of Home Economics was written only in Korean text books. The unit objectives were described most concretely and detailedly in Korean text books comparing with other countries. 3. Contents: Korean text books covered all six areas of foods, clothings, housing, home management, family and occupation and theoretical explanations prevailed. Japanese text books contained numerous lab works, lacked two areas of home management and occupation, thecontents included a few practical lab works two areas of home management and occupation, the contents included a few practical lab works. In the text books of U.S.A. contained all six areas of Home Economics were covered and special emphasis was placed on self discovory and self development, and vocational guidance was also stressed. The text book of England contained only three areas of Home Economics, clothing, foods and housing; the number of area was limited but the basic theories of covered area was intended to lead to self comprehension through questions and lab works.
