  • This paper tests the validity of pecking order theory by Myers(1977) and Myers and Majluf(1984) on Korean manufacturing firms listed in the KRX for the years of 1994 to 2003. We also want to see if there is any difference in financing behavior between chaebol affiliated firms and non-chaebol affiliated firms. We develop testable hypotheses from the idea that established relationship between bank and firm mitigates the problem of information asymmetry (Kang and Lim, 2001), and thus makes it easier for firms to raise funds through banks. The test result of the first stage shows that firms prefer cash reserves to debt financing, and prefer debt to equity. Chaebol affiliated firms are found to behave as if they already exploit internal capital markets. The second stage of the test carried out by dividing debt capital into bank loans and corporate bonds also shows a consistent pattern of financing behavior. Firms are testified to prefer cash to bank loans, bank loans to corporate bonds, and corporate bonds to equity. In this case chaebol affiliation seems to make firms behave as if they already establish internal capital markets. Further analysis shows that some, though not in every case, difference of ordering around the occasion of Korean financial crisis exists. It may be from the change of attitude of Korean firms to risk, or from weakened influence of internal capital market along with strengthened market power in the post-crisis period.

  • This paper examines the validity of issuing municipal bonds for land compensation of long-term unexecuted urban parks and greenbelts. Then it suggests that municipal bonds should be issued for compensation priority areas with high rising prices. By conducting correlation analysis and PLS(Partial Least Squares) regression for 32 long-term unexecuted urban parks and greenbelts, the factors were identified that affected 'rising prices of IAPLP(Individually Announced Public Land Price) after seven years'. According to the analysis results, Variable Importance in the Projection in PLS regression was higher in 'IAPLP of base year(1.919)' and 'Accumulated rising Rates of average IAPLP in the borough(1.176).' The implications of this study are as follows. In Seoul, the accumulated rising rates of average IAPLP over the past 12 years is higher than the accumulated interest rates for seven years of urban planning facility bonds, which means that IAPLP have risen more than the interest payments due to the issuance of municipal bonds. In addition, since the actual compensation is three times that of IAPLP, it is judged that the land price is actually much higher than the interest payments. This shows that issuing municipal bonds and preferentially compensating for areas like high rising land prices can increase the economic efficiency of the budget execution. Also, for economic efficiency of budget execution, it is necessary to propose an 'area with high IAPLP' or 'a part in the borough with high rising rate of average IAPLP,' which is expected to have a high rising land price as criteria for compensation priority areas. In the future, when issuing municipal bonds to compensate long-term unexecuted urban parks and greenbelts, variousresearch on financing for municipal bonds repayment should be conducted.

  • Light induced degradation of hydrogenated amorphous silicon(a-Si:H) are related to the number of weak dangling bonds which are thought to be responsible for the Staebler-Wronski effects, and caused the many photoelectric problems in applications of thin film transistors and solar cell, etc. In this paper, we deposited fluorinated amorphous silicon films(a-Si:H;F) with $SiH_4$ and $SiF_4$ gas mixture and investigated the effects of fluorine atoms on the evoluations of the crystallinity and improvements of light instability. We have found that micro-crystallinity produced in a-SI:H;F films and marked maximum value of 22% at the flow rate of $SiH_4:SiF_4$=2:10 sccm by UV spectrophotometer measurement, while n-Si:H film deposited with only $SiH_4$ gas showed no crystallinity. Light-induced degradation property of a-Si:H;F films is also improved which is mainly due to the etching effects of fluorine atoms on the weak Si-Si bonds and unstable hydrogen bonds. It is considered that involving fluorine atoms in a-Si:H films may contribute to the suppression of light-induced degradation and evolution of micro-crystallinity.

  • This paper is to present the performance data for pressure setting method using some tile bonds for application on the Ondol-Heating floor system. For this purpose, powder and liquid tile bonds(Organic.Inorganic mixed tile bonds) were compared with the conventional tile cement for pressure setting method in the sight of the adhesive stability of porcelain tile. It tested for tiles after 14, 28days under standard condition and severe conditions. The severe conditions were water immersion and heat ageing($70^{\circ}C$). Another experimental factors concerned tile bond properties such as mixing ratio(in case of using liquid admixture), open time, which are supposed to affect the tensile strength of tile, were studied and discussed through the experiments.

  • Fragmentation efficiencies of various ‘activated-ion’ electron capture dissociation (AI-ECD) methods are compared for a model system of bovine ubiquitin 7+ cations. In AI-ECD studies, sufficient internal energy was given to protein cations prior to ECD application using IR laser radiation, collisions, blackbody radiation, or in-beam collisions, in turn. The added energy was utilized in increasing the population of the precursor ions with less intra-molecular noncovalent bonds or enhancing thermal fluctuations of the protein cations. Removal of noncovalent bonds resulted in extended structures, which are ECD friendly. Under their best conditions, a variety of activation methods showed a similar effectiveness in ECD fragmentation. In terms of the number of fragmented inter-residue bonds, IR laser/blackbody infrared radiation and ‘in-beam’ activation were almost equally efficient with ~70% sequence coverage, while collisions were less productive. In particular, ‘in-beam’ activation showed an excellent effectiveness in characterizing a pre-fractionated single kind of protein species. However, its inherent procedure did not allow for isolation of the protein cations of interest.

  • This study was carried out to find out the relationship between qualities and contraction phenomenon of silk fibers by treatment of concentrated neutral salts. The contraction effects of silk fibers showed the critical point on the treatment conditions of concentration, temperature and time, among three kinds of neutral salts such as calcium nitrate, calcium chloride and lithium bromide. But, The silk fibers, pretreated with bromide and/or formaldehyde, did not show the contraction upon treating with calcium nitrate. This indicates that tyrosine and serine can be correlated with the contraction reaction because of coupling these amino acids with bromide and formaldehyde. In conclusion, a mechanism for the contraction of silk fiber with highly concentrated calcium nitrate solution is supposed as follows. At the initial stage of ration, the water was penetrated into the amorphous regions and fibers swollen, therefore, the contraction took place mainly in amorphous regions, which have plenty of functional groups with hydroxyl residues. Then, as the calcium nitrate is penetrated into the microfibril, the gydrogen bonds of tyrosine and serine residues and broken and crystalline regions are more and more influenced by increasing concentration of calcium nitrate solution. Microgibrils of crystalline regions become entangled, contracted to linear direction and rearranged to form new stable hydrogen bonds.

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to investigate the high-efficiency anaerobic digestion of organic wastes with high fat content. Specifically, the analysis focused on biogas production performance with a focus on carbon number and the double bond count of the long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs), which are hydrolysis products of triglycerides. Methods: Experiments were performed under mesophilic anaerobic conditions with a feed-to-microorganism ratio (F/M) of 1.0. Biogas production performance was analyzed through biogas production patterns, lag-phase, and the time required for 90% biogas production (T90). Results: Biogas production increased when the content of unsaturated LCFAs (containing relatively large numbers of carbon atoms) increased. In substrate containing LCFAs with four or more double bonds, although the initial lag-phase in biogas production was shortened, development of a three-step lag-phase resulted in decreased biogas production. These results suggest that high rates of anaerobic digestion are possible when the LCFAs have high unsaturated fatty acid content with three or fewer double bonds. Conclusions: When various types of LCFAs are digested anaerobically, biogas production performance can be improved if the unsaturated fatty acid content and number of double bonds are optimized for maximum production.

  • The aim of this study is to explore the meanings and significance of sense of place in environmental education. Sense of place is related to affective aspect of human, means emotional bonds to place where he live. In general sense, place is referred to a location on the earth but is not confined to physical settings or space. It is a construction reflecting human experiences and meanings and being center of meaningful experiences in everyday life. Recently there are many environmental educators emphasizing lived experience as a way to develop environmental sensitivity or intimacy toward nature. Environmental education should be practiced in the place where the participants live and reflect locality including social and cultural characteristics as well as natural features. In addition, it should provide opportunities for participants to have an lived experience where they can get the sense of bonds to place or connectedness. It is the significance that sense of place has. If you get sense of place, sense of bonds to place, you are likely to feel much more belongingness and attachment to place, which in turn become a basis for a variety of activities to conserve and improve the place and will develop an ecological self.
