A bonding process between tape-carrier package and a glass panel with anisotropic conductive film (ACF) has been investigated by making use of high power diode laser as a heat source for cure. The results from modeling of process and from optical properties of layers showed that heat absorbed from polyimide film surface and ACF layer is dominant source of curing during laser illumination. Laser ACF bonding has better bonding quality than conventional bonding in view of peel strength, flatness, pressure unbalance and processing time. New ACF bonding processes by making use of high power diode laser are proposed.
It has been previously reported that in principle sludge and blockages can be detected and even characterized by using guided ultrasonic torsional waves, based on an idealized model in which the sludge layer was simplified in terms of geometry and material properties. The work revealed that the presence of a layer inside a pipe scatters the guided wave propagating in the pipe and both the reflection and transmission of the guided wave can be used to effectively detect and characterize the layer. This paper proceeds the work by taking into account more realistic sludge characteristics, including irregular circumferential profiles of the sludge layer and imperfect bonding state between the sludge and the pipe. The influence of these issues is investigated to identify the critical factors that influence the detection and characterization capability of the two measurements.

The purpose of this study is to enhance an adhesion between substrate and Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) film. DLC has many outstanding properties such as low friction, high wear resistance and corrosion resistance. However, it is difficult to achieve enough adhesion because of weak bonding between DLC film and the substrate. For improvement adhesion, a layer between DLC film and the substrate was prepared by dual post plasma. DLC film was deposited on nitrided layer by linear ion source. The composed compound layer between substrate and DLC film was investigated by Glow Discharge Spectrometer (GDS) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The synthesized bonding structure of DLC film was analyzed using a micro raman spectrometer. Mechanical properties were measured by nano-indentation. In order to clarify the mechanism for improvement in adhesive strength, it was observed by scratch test.

In this study, effects of bonding agent, e.g. epoxy, on the behavior of fundamental guided wave modes propagated in FRP plate bonded on a concrete, are investigated. Global matrix model of multilayered FRP-epoxy-concrete system was constructed to obtain the velocity and attenuation dispersion curves of the fundamental A0 and S0 modes. Two variables, thickness and elastic modulus of epoxy layer, were considered in the dispersion analysis. It was found that both the thickness and the elastic modulus of epoxy layer greatly affect the phase velocity and attenuation of S0 mode while those are negligible for A0 mode. Based on the results, it was concluded that S0 mode is more effective than A0 mode for bonding condition assessment for FRP plate bonded concrete.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of stannous fluoride on the dentin bonding with three kinds of commercially available dentin bonding systems containing different adhesive monomers. Dentin specimens with exposed labial dentin prepared from freshly extracted bovine mandibular anterior teeth were divided into experimental and control groups. The specimens of experimental groups were bonded with dentin bonding systems and composite resins including All bond 2 ㅡ& Bisfil, Scotchbond Multi-Purpose & Z100, and Denthesive II Charisma after 2 % stannous& fluorided application for S minutes and washing for 1 minute. The specimens of control groups were bonded with the same dentin bonding systems and composite resins as used in the experimental groups. After bonded specimens were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 hours, the tensile bond strength and cohesive failure rate were measured, and then the pretreated dentin surfaces and the fractured dentin surfaces were examined under scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows : Mean bond strength of stannous fluoride applied groups of All bond 2, Scotchbond MP, and Denthesive II were 2.5MPa, 1.1MPa, and 1.1MPa respectively, and those of control groups were 7.5MPa, 8.1MPa, and 4.6MPa. Bond strength values of stannous fluoride applied groups were significantly lower than those of the control groups(p<0.05). SEM findings of dentin surfaces after stannous fluoride application demonstrated an appearance of partially remained smear layer and smear plugs inspite of pretreatment with 10 % phosphoric aicd or maleic acid solution, and an appearance of smear layer covered surface under Denthesive II priming. But those of control groups commonly showed clean dentin surfaces without smear layer and smear plugs. On SEM observation of the fractured dentin-resin interface, while most of the specimens of stannous fluoride applied groups showed adhesive failure mode, those of All bond 2 and Scotchbond MP control groups showed mainly adhesive-cohesive mixed failure mode, and mainly adhesive failure mode in Denthesive II control group.
The aim of this study was to examine that thick dentin bonding agent application or low modulus composite restoration could reduce stresses on dentin bonding agent layer. A mandibular first premolar with abfraction lesion was modeled by finite element method. The lesion was restored by different composite resins with variable dentin bonding agent thickness ($50{\mu}m$, $100{\mu}m$, $150{\mu}m$). 170N of occlusal loading was applied buccally or lingually. Von Mises stress on dentin bonding agent layer were measured. When thickness of dentin bonding agent was increased von Mises stresses at dentin bonding agent were decreased in both composites. Lower elastic modulus composite restoration showed decreased von Mises stresses. On root dentin margin more stresses were generated than enamel margin. For occlusal stress relief at dentin boning agent layer to applicate thick dentin bonding agent or to choose low elastic modulus composite is recommended.

Friction welding of $Al_2O_3$ particulate reinforced aluminum composites was performed and the following conclusions were drawn from the study of interfacial bonding characteristics and the relationship between experimental parameters of friction welding and interfacial bond strength. Highest bonded joint efficiency (HBJE) approaching $100\%$ was obtained from the post-brake timing, indicating that the bonding strength of the joint is close to that of the base material. For the pre-brake timing, HBJE was $65\%$. Most region of the bonded interface obtained from post-brake timing exhibited similar microstructure with the matrix or with very thin, fine-grained $Al_2O_3$ layer. This was attributed to the fact that the fine-grained $Al_2O_3$ layer forming at the bonding interface was drawn out circumferentially in this process. Joint efficiency of post-brake timing was always higher than that of pre-brake timing regardless of rotation speed employed. In order to guarantee the performance of friction welded joint similar to the efficiency of matrix, it is necessary to push out the fine-grained $Al_2O_3$ layer forming at the bonding interface circumferentially. As a result, microstructure of the bonded joint similar to that of the matrix with very thin, fine-grained $Al_2O_3$ layer can be obtained.
One bottle system was recently developed in order to simplify the clinical skills and save chair time after continuous improvements on dentin bonding agents. There has been many studies to measure the bond strength of one bottle systems but no actual work has been done on micromorphologic study of resin-dentin interdiffusion zone after one bottle system application. To evaluate the bonding patterns of various commercially available one bottle systems to dentin, observation of resin-dentin interdiffusion zone under TEM was performed. Caries-free human third molars within one month of extractions were chosen for the experiments. The molars were sectioned 1mm above the cementoenamel junction and got rid of the root portions. Crown portions of the teeth were sectioned parallel to occlusal surface so that dentin discs of 1mm in thickness were remained. 7 one bottle systems and 1 two bottle system were applied according to manufacturer's instructions and followings were the results. 1. In every experimental groups, cross bandings of collagen fiber were distinguishable and tight bon dings between the bonding agents and dentin were observed. 2. Hybrid layer was clearly observed in ONE-STEP$^{(R)}$, Prime & Bond$^{(R)}$ 2.1, Syntac$^{(R)}$ SC, MAC-BOND II groups but it was not clear in Single Bond, D-Liner Dual PLUS, ONE COAT BOND groups. 3. Electron-density of hybrid layer was uniform in pattern in MAC-BOND II, Prime & Bond$^{(R)}$ 2.1 groups but not so uniform in ONE-STEP$^{(R)}$ group. 4. Electron-dense amorphous phase in most superior layer of the resin-dentin interdiffusion zone was characteristically observed in Single Bond, Syntac$^{(R)}$ SC, ONE COAT BOND groups. It can be concluded that bondings between the dentin bonding agents and dentin can be various in pattern according to their chemical compositions and the condition during applications.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of smear layer management on the interfacial morphology between dentin bonding system and dentin. Clearfil New Bond, Scotchbond Multipurpose, Prisma Universal Bond 3 and X-R Bond were used on the cervical dentinal surfaces of bovine incisor teeth. All of the dentin bonding systems were labeled with fluorescene in primer and rhodamine B in adhesive. Specimens of 2~3mm thichness were prepared by longitudinal and labiolingual sectioning. The interface between dentin bonding system and dentin was observed by flouresence imaging with a confocal laser scanning microscope. Following results were obtained. 1. In the specimen of Clearfil New Bond, dentinal tubules were widened by destruction of peritubular dentin in the course of treatment with phosphoric acid of high concentration. 2. Hybrid layer was observed in the specimen of Scotchbond Multipurpose and X-R Bond. 3. In the specimen of Prisma Universal Bond 3, the penetraton of adhesive was not observed clearly.

Generally brittle eta phase produced during TiC deposition has a effect on the TRS (transverse rupture strength ; thoughness). Therefore it is necessary to reduce eta(η), phase for the improvement of tool life. At this experiment some properties (TRS, bonding strength, tool life, eta phase)have been investigated by inserting TiN or TiCN underlayer between TiC layer and substrate. The results obtained were as follows; 1. by inserting underlayer eta phase were decreased and TRS was increased, but the bonding strength was decreased. 2. the diffusion of W, Co from the substrate was hindered by the underlayer. 3. TiC layer with TiCN underlayer had the finsest grain size. 4. by inserting underlayer (TiCN or TiN) the tool life was improved and especially notch and crater wear resistance was greatly improved.
