  • In general, most of the beam-to-column connections for steel structures are regarded as either rigid connections or pin connections. Recently, the concept of a semi-rigid connection was introduced for a correct analysis of steel structures. Several experimental and theoretical researches have been performed regarding the structural behaviors of frames and buildings with semi-rigid connections. The results are not well known, and structural frame/building has not been designed to introduce the concept of semi-rigid connections between a beam and column until this time. To resolve this, this research depends on design specifications prepared by other advanced countries for the design of buildings with semi-rigid connections. Such a specification, however, should incorporate domestic characteristics of steel material properties and load conditions. This paper deals with structural capacities and deformable behaviors for a split-T tensile connection with F10T high-strength bolts to investigate the structural characteristics of semi-rigid frames. The experimental parameters include the thickness of T-flanges, painted or not, preloaded or not, and load pushover pattern. A total of 20 specimens were fabricated and tested with a 300-ton UTM. The structural capacities and behavior for split-T tensile connections were evaluated on each research parameter.

  • The purpose of this study is to introduce a new spacer damper for the bundle transmission lines network. It has the special design, the main characteristics and advantage of this new kind of spacer damper. An Existing spacer damper with bolted clamps, although widely used, is a method of connection with certain disadvantage both as regards assembly on the conductor and in the course of time. Even if tightening torque is correctly applied by using bolt with share head or torque wrench during working time, the aeolian vibration could involve untightening during life time, so the cable can move into the Jaws and wire's breakage appear. To salve this problems, France, Japan and other countries had developed a spacer damper with an automatic system through many years. This new spacer damper is an original automatic clamping device (beltless) which does not require special tool for its installation. This device prevents clamp unlocking problems, ensures a simple installation and ensures a reliable-tightening during life time. Therefore, it is necessary to localize this boltless spacer damper with automate clamping device.

  • This study consists of static and fatigue tests to evaluate the behavior on the field splice joint of longitudinal rib in orthotropic steel deck specimens. Specifically, static and influence surface tests are performed for the stress distribution at the scallop area and high-strength bolt connection of longitudinal rib to examine the existence of handhole cover plate and the effect of eccentric loads. The ultimate strength of the field splice joint of longitudinal rib is obtained. In fatigue tests, cracks are observed at the scallop in the lower level test and the catastrophic failure of longitudinal rib is occurred following the failure of handhole cover plate in the higher level test. This study gives a basis for the better understanding of the field splice joint of longitudinal rib.

  • Recently various types of prefabricated pier has been developed. In this paper, prefabricated composite columns with core steel elements embedded in concrete were proposed, which has no prestressing. Based on the previous research on composite columns with low steel ratio, the column were designed. A simple bolt connection detail between a footing and a pier element were also suggested. In order to investigate the seismic performance of the composite columns, several tests on concrete encased composite columns, which are prefabricated, were performed. Quasi-static tests were carried out and their performance was evaluated and compared with the results from the tests on CIP composite piers. In the case of precast piers, the end part of the pier needs to be carefully reinforced and related recommendations on details were derived.

  • A pressure compensated chamber of a pilot mining robot isolates and protects an electrical-electronic system from the ambient highly pressured water. Since the inner pressure of the chamber is compensated with outer water pressure using hydraulic oil and pressure compensator, there exists a pressure difference, less than 1 bar, between outer and inner surface. The structural safety of the chamber is obtained relatively easier than the canister type which inner pressure is kept as the atmospheric pressure. However, due to the adoption of box shape for space efficiency and usage of the transparent engineering plastic viewport for checking inner circumstance, the viewport can be largely deformed. This large deformation can cause an additional tensile force, called the prying force, to the bolt-flange connection parts of the viewport. In this paper, we suggest the structural design equation considering the prying action for designing the structure of a box-shape pressure compensated chamber.

  • A GFRP based composite blade was developed for a 750kW wind energy conversion system of type class I. The blade sectional geometry was designed to have a general shell-spar structure. The load cases specified in the IEC61400-1 international specification were considered. For withstanding all relevant extreme loads, the structural analysis for the complete blade was performed using a commercial FEM code. The static load carrying capacity, buckling stability, blade tip deflection and natural frequencies at various rotational speeds were evaluated to satisfy the strength requirements in accordance with the IEC61400-1 and GL Regulations. For designing a lightweight blade, the thickness and the lay-up pattern of the skin-foam sandwich structures were optimized iteratively using the DOT program T-bolts were used for joining the blade root and the hub, which were modeled using a 3D FE volume model. In order to confirm the safety of the root connection, the static stresses of the thick root laminate and the steel. bolts were predicted by taking account of the bolt pretension and the root bending moments. The calculated stresses were compared with the material strengths.

  • The purpose of this study is to increase applicability of high strength steel, HSA800 to the structure. Selected study of structure is to consider high strength steel, and following parts, 1) Tensile member with no consider of buckling, 2) Truss existing both tension and compression members with small slenderness ratio. This studied structure is included tension column hang on to the upper bridge truss. The structure element quantity with apply HSA800 instead of SM570 is reduced about 38.9% of tension column and 29.7% of bridge truss. In addition, the number of element's division is reduced about two sections due to reduction of self weight that the crane is able to lift up. This improves to reduce erection sequence and construction period which can save about a month. All connections are reviewed as welding and bolt. Also, the cost of welding is reduced about 41.3% due to apply HSA800. In conclusion, applying HSA800 to the hanging structure aggressively can secure economic and constructability.

  • To explore seismic behavior of blind bolted concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) frames infilled with precast sandwich composite wall panels (SCWPs), a series tests of blind bolted square CFST frames with precast SCWPs under lateral low-cyclic loading were conducted. The influence of the type of wall concrete, wall-to-frame connection and steel brace setting, etc. on the hysteretic curves and failure modes of the type of composite structure was investigated. The seismic behavior of the blind bolted CFST frames with precast SCWPs was evaluated in terms of lateral load-displacement relation curves, strength and stiffness degradation, crack patterns of SCWPs, energy dissipation capacity and ductility. Then, a finite element (FE) analysis modeling using ABAQUS software was developed in considering the nonlinear material properties and complex components interaction. Comparison indicated that the FE analytical results coincided well with the test results. Both the experimental and numerical results indicated that setting the external precast SCWPs could heighten the load carrying capacities and rigidities of the blind bolted CFST frames by using reasonable connectors between frame and SCWPs. These experimental studies and FE analysis would enable improvement in the practical design of the SCWPs in fabricated CFST structure buildings.

  • This study is a basic study on the seismic reinforcement method of anchors of fixed parts in order to reduce the effect of seismic motion that affects the facilities in the event of an earthquake. By applying the test method of ICC ES AC 156, a seismic simulation experiment was performed on the vibration table with three axes simultaneously using the number of connecting bolts between cabinets and channels as a parameter. In addition, the reliability of the experiment was verified using numerical analysis, and the part about the dynamic characteristics that could not be performed according to the experimental limit was investigated through numerical analysis. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the natural frequency of the main body was increased due to the increase in the number of connecting bolts between the cabinet-channel. Accordingly, it was judged that the rigidity of the lower part of the cabinet was increased due to seismic reinforcement. It was analyzed that the impact delivered to the body was effectively reduced. In the future, if the reinforcement of the connection parts mentioned in this study is added to the existing seismic reinforcement of the electrical cabinets, it is expected that the damage to the electrical cabinets of the power plant equipment caused by an earthquake will be effectively reduced.
