A 23.5 kg179, 8 months olds non-spaycd female Rottweiler dog was submitted to the veterinary teaching animal hospitals Chonbuk: national university, for chronic bitten trauma on right foreleg with pain, lameness, and pronation. The patient fought with a neighboring dog about five months ago and had mild anorexia, depression, bolt normal walking at that time. CBC and blood chemical examination were in normal range. Physical examination resulted in the right foreleg with edema and interval rotation of carpal joint. Radiograph of the right carpus showed varus and subluxation. We finally diagnosed the patient as the growth deformity of distal radius and ulna caused by medial premature closure of distal radial physis. Osteotomy was performed fur reforming of the varus of the distal radius and ulna with 6-hole straight plate and six 3.5 mm screws. Panarthrodcsis of carpus was preformed for correcting subluxation using 6-hole T-shaped plate and four 3.5 mm screws with cortical onlay autograft and strengthened by two 3.5 mm screws and tension wire band in lateral aspect of the carpus. Follow-up radiographs after 16 weeds of the surgery showed complete coaptation of osteotomy sire of the radius and uIna. After 6 months of the procedurc, talc plate, screws and the wire were removed except 7-shaped plate and four screws fur arthrodesis. The patient was seen in normal forelimb and could walk and run without lameness after 7 months of the procedure.
High-power ultrasonic promotes a chemical reaction by its own energy, thus it has been used for sonochemistry applications. For example, it has been mostly used for mixing, reaction catalyst, dispersion and disintegration. High-power ultrasonic transducer is made with structure based on a Bolt-clamped Langevin type Transducer (BLT), But it has difficulty in the development because degradation of piezoelectric ceramic by the heat generation of BLT. In this study, for a development of the transducer of 25 kHz and 1000 W used in sonochemistry and industrial cleaning, BLT with a hole in its center and tubular type waveguide of the transducer were designed based on finite element method (FEM). The transducer was fabricated based on the design parameter, and the impedance characteristics are measured experimentally and compared with the numerical results.

The idler wheel installed at the front side of the newly developed tracked vehicle didn't meet the durability requirement by showing the crack failure near the jointed region at the wheel during the field test. To find the crack developing mechanism we constructed finite element model for the idler wheel representing the behavior of interface between each suspension units, material properties from the material test data and actual loading conditions. This paper shows a result that maximum von Mises stress near the bolt hole on the outer rim is higher than inner idler coressponding to the actual test result and that result was reversed by adopting the reinforcement outside of the outer rim.

This paper presents the cyclic seismic performance of slip-critically designed, high-strength bolted-beam splice in steel moment frame. Before the moment connection reaching its plastic strength, unexpected premature slippage occurred at the slip-critically designed beam splice during the test. The experimentally observed frictional coefficients were as low as about 50% to 60% of nominal (code) value. Nevertheless, the bearing type behavior mobilized after the slippage transferred the increasing cyclic loads successfully, i.e., the consequence of slippage into bearing was not catastrophic to the connection behavior. The test result seems to indicate that the traditional beam splice design basing upon (bolt-hole deducted) effective flange area criterion may not be sufficient in developing the plastic strength of moment connections under severe earthquake loading. New procedure for achieving slip-critical beam splice design is proposed based on capacity design concept.

The development of high-strength fibers such as boron/epoxy and carbon/epoxy and adhesives has made it possible to repair cracked metallic plates by bonding reinforcing patches to the plate over the crack. In this study, aluminum 6061-T6 alloy plates with the high strength are applied to specimens with a cracked bolt hole to study the effect of diverse patch materials on the fatigue behavior of this structure. Additionally, the observation of the effort of different patch sizes on the specimen was performed. The results shows that the patch repair can improve the static strength by about 17% and the fatigue life by 200% compared with non-repaired case. And it was also revealed that the patching method along to crack growth direction is mort efficient in cost and weight reduction.
For weight reduction of the gearbox of power bogie of high speed train, aluminum alloy is recommended for the material of the gerabox case. In this paper, three models(Steel G/B Case-Steel BRG. Case[model-S], Aluminum G/B Case-Aluminum BRG. Case[model-A], Aluminum G/B Case-Steel BRG. Case[model-AS]) were compared to each other in the view of thermal expansion. The evaluation of the internal load, thermal expansion deformation and lug analysis were executed. It results that the 'model-A' is excessively deformed and fail in the bolt hole of bearing case. Material change of the bearing case to steel(model-AS) is effective to restrain the deformation of the inner radios of the bearing case and to prevent the failure of that.
This paper presents the numerical results in strength and stress distribution behavior for the connections of corrugated steel plates (CSP). The results obtained using the finite element method indicate that the CSP with =30mm of longitudinal edge lap, by the current standard specification, has very conservative values. The results also indicate the difference of strength behavior from the bolt arrangement. The strength behavior of standard corrugated type with staggered holes is only affected by circumferential edge lap, but the edge lap and bolthole spacing have an effect on the strength behavior for the deeply corrugated type with parallel holes. Based on these results, this paper examines the current specification of the connections for CSP.
The Rosette-joining system is a completely new press-joining method for cold-formed steel structures. One Rosette-joint has a shear capacity equal to that of approximately four screws or rivets. The Rosette thin-walled steel truss system presents a new fully integrated prefabricated alternative to light-weight roof truss structures. The trusses are built up on special industrial production lines from modified top hat sections used as top and bottom chords and channel sections used as webs which are joined together with the Rosette press-joining technique to form a completed structure easy to transport and install. A single web section is used when sufficient but can be strengthened by double-nesting two separate sections or by using two lateral profiles where greater compressive axial forces are met. An individual joint in the truss can be strengthened by introducing a hollow bolt into the joint hole. The bolt gives the connection capacity a boost of approximately 20%. A series of laboratory tests have been carried out in order to verify the Rosette truss system in practice. In addition to compression tests on individual sections of different lengths, tests have also been done on small structural assemblies and on actual full-scale trusses of a span of 10 metres. Design calculations have been performed on selected roof truss geometries based on the test results, FE-analysis and on the Eurocode 3 and U.S.(AISI) design codes.
Recent test results on reduced beam section (RBS) steel moment connections show that specimens with a bolted web connection tend to perform poorly due to premature brittle fracture of the beam flange at the weld access hole. A review of previous test results indicates that the higher incidence of base metal fracture in bolted-web specimens is related, at least in part, to the web bolt slippage and the high stress concentration at the weld access hole with the lowest material toughness. The practice of providing web bolts uniformly along the beam depth based on the classical beam theory is questioned in this paper. A new seismic design procedure, which is more consistent with the actual load path identified from the analytical and experimental studies, is proposed together with improved connection details. A test specimen designed following the proposed procedure exhibited a cyclic connection rotation capacity sufficient for special moment frames without fracture.
Blind rivet nuts (BRNs) are increasingly used in automotive industry because unlike conventional bolt fastening, BRN fastening requires access from one side only. Generally, fastening is conducted using automated units, but manual fastening may be resorted to in case of small quantities. Since the fastening direction is not exactly perpendicular to the sheet metal, the BRN axis is tilted with respect to the plate and may result in damage or incomplete fastening. As the tilt angle (clamping angle α) increases, undesired plate deformation occurs and the contact area of the plate with the BRN fastening area decreases, reducing the clamping effect. In this study, the reduction of the clamping effect with the α was investigated to ensure stable fastening force. M6 BRNs were used in the tests. The fastening force was measured as follows: the plate was cut in half through the center of the hole; the BRN was inserted into the hole and fastened; and the clamping angle a was measured (values, 0° ≤ α ≤ 9°). The force leading to the separation of the halves was measured using a universal testing machine (UTM). The maximum α range, in which the fastening force remains stable, was determined. Finite element (FE) analysis confirmed that the fastening force decreases approximately linearly with increasing α. Based on the experiment and FE analysis using various α, the fastening force was found to decrease with α. Further, the maximum tolerance for α that provides secure fastening without damage is suggested.
