Pharyngoesophageal diverticulum is a well-known disease entity but is seldomly reported in Korean literature. Recently the authors experienced two cases of pharyngoesophageal diverticulum. A 46 year old female and a 51 year old female patients were admitted due to foreign body sensation in esophagus and dysphagia. Preoperative esophagography and esophagoscopy confirmed the diagnosis of pharyngoesophageal diverticulum in each patient. The authors performed one-stage pharyngoesophageal diverticulectomy and myotomy. Postoperative esophagography revealed no diverticulum or stenosis and symptoms were markedly relieved.
A case of 35-year-man with a rhabdomyosarcoma in the mandible has been presented. Chief complaints are dull sensation and growing mass at the area of the right mandible. In order to make diagnosis, roentgenograms were taken which revealed some sort of radiopaque and punched appearane at the area from right body to angle of the mandible, and biopsy was made, by which rhabdomyosarcoma was observed. The author treated this patient in terms of hemimandiblectomy, neck dissection and resin-made mandible implantation, and has observed this patient for two and half years after operation. The author satisfy that this patient has been recovered.
The 50-year-old female patient was admitted to our hospital because of dysphagia and foreign body sensation on the neck after swallowing of solid foods 5 days ago. Esophagoscopic findings, performed on 2 days prior to admission, revealed no pathology. She had no history of preexisting esophageal disease. Under the diagnosis of the cervical esophageal perforation by routine studies such as simple chest, neck x-ray films and clinical findings, incision and drainage on the retropharyngeal space was done. Postoperatively we found the protruded degenerative spur on the 5th and 6th cervical vertebral bodies, and we considered that esophageal perforation in this case was predisposed by cervical spur. The postoperative course was uneventful.

To examine the effects of alcohol consumption on body fluid restoration and fat mobilization following exercise induced dehydration, nine healthy collegiate men ($24{\pm}2yrs,\;177{\pm}5cm,\;72{\pm}8kg,\;10.5{\pm}2.3%$ body fat) underwent three experiments. In each experiment, subjects ran on a treadmill to reduce individual body mass to $2.2{\pm}0.1%$ and consumed one of three beverages containing 0, 4, or 8% alcohol over 60 min followed by 4 hr of resting recovery. They consumed approximately 150% of weight loss $(2053{\pm}204,\;2091{\pm}149,\;and\;1943{\pm}295mL)$ and content of alcohol was $9.9{\pm}1.0(0%),\;71.9{\pm}5.1(4%)$, and $132.2{\pm}20.1g$ (8% trial). Body weight, urine volume and samples, blood samples, and thirst sensation were measured five times; at baseline, immediately after exercise, and 0, 1st, and 4th hr of recovery. Blood alcohol concentration after ingestion was $0.0{\pm}0.0(0%),\;0.1{\pm}0.02(4%)$, and $0.2{\pm}0.03%$ (8% trial). No differences in blood sodium and potassium concentrations, and urine specific gravity were noticed over time periods and trials. Thirst sensation tended to be elevated in all trials immediately after exercises and urine output was elevated during the recovery. The magnitude of changes in these variables was proportional to the alcohol concentrations, but not statistically significant. While serum osmolality was not different among trials and time periods in 0 and 4% trials, it was higher during recovery than the baseline in the 8% trial (P<0.01). Triglycerides did not change throughout the time period and among trials. Free fatty acids were elevated after exercise in all trials and 4th hr of recovery in 0% (P<0.05). Subjects' net body fluid balance at 4th hr of recovery was negatively maintained and proportional to alcohol concentrations. Only 8% trials showed a significant reduction at 1st and 4th hr of recovery compared to 0 hr. The results suggested that diuretic effect of alcohol after moderate level of dehydration appeared dose dependent, but beverage containing alcohol up to 4% did not induce impaired rehydration than alcohol free drinks. Alcohol effects on fat mobilization during recovery appeared to be minimal and the mechanism is unclear.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of napping of knitted fabric on wear sensation and physiological responses. Experimental garments were four types of warm-ups made of either $100\%$ PET or $65/35\%$ P /C and either napped or unnapped respectively. Two healthy young female adults were chosen as subjects for the experiment. Experimental room conditions were as follows: Temp., $22\pm0.5^{\circ}C$ R.H., $54\pm3\%$ and Air Velocity, 0.25m/ sec or 2. 86m/sec. The subjects exercised on bicycle ergometer and rested alternatively for totally 45-min. The results are summarized as follows. 1) With napped Warm-up, chest, back, mean skin temp. and microclimates, i.e., temp., relative humidity and water vapor pressure inside the clothing, were higher than with unnapped warm-up. And there was no difference in pulse rate between napped and unnapped warm-ups. 2) Wear sensations of thermal, humidity, tactile and comfort were 'more hot' and 'more uncomfortable' in 0.25m/sec air velocity. but in 2.86m/sec condition the tactile sensation was 'better' and 'more comfortable' with napped warm-ups. According to Pearson's Correlation, among various kinds of wear sensations, tactile is most related with comfort. From these results, it can be concluded that napped fabric decreases the rate of heat trans? mission and moisture diffusion through the clothing. Therefore skin and body temp. and temp., R.H., Vapor Pressure inside the clothing are increased.
The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility and the effects of near infrared lighted garments on thermo-physiological responses in human body. Seven healthy adult men were recruited for this study. All subjects were informed the contents and purpose of this study. The experiment was carried out in a climate chamber of $32^{\circ}C$, 60%RH with 'Rest', 'Exercise' and 'Recovery' period. The experimental garments consisted of briefs, undershirts(sleeveless), nightclothes, T-shirts, knee-trousers and socks. Subjects participated in two experiments, one was wearing near infrared lighted garments(NIR-O), the other was wearing regular garments(NIR-X). The order of experiment was randomized, and subjects wore experimental garments before 24 hours in order to benefit by near infrared light. Measurement items included rectal temperature ($T_{re}$), mean skin temperature ($\bar{T}_{sk}$), sweat rate, heart rate, oxygen uptake and subjective sensation. The results are as follows: As to the variation of rectal temperature and mean skin temperature, value of wearing NIR-X was higher than value of wearing NIR-O, indicating a significant level of difference (p<.001). Sweat rate under NIR-O and NIR-X condition were 575.35 g and 535.75 g, respectively. Heart rate value of NIR-X condition was higher than NIR-O. Oxygen uptake measured during experiment was the higher in NIR-X condition with significant difference (p<.001). In the subjective sensation, the value of NIR-O condition was higher than NIR-X condition without significantly difference.
From the environmental adaptation point of view, the clothing habits made by the thermal sensation and clothing weight of elderly women have changed according to the thermal sensation and health condition. The purpose of this study was to obtain the basic data for developing healthy and comfortable clothing for elderly women. Clothing weight, thermal sensation, clothing microclimate, resistance to cold and heat of 198 elderly women in Taejeon were surveyed from October 9, 2007 to October 19, 2007. 1. Clothing weight per body surface area was $830.4g/m^2$ of total clothing weight, $242.8g/m^2$ of underwear clothing weight, $617.3g/m^2$ of outerwear clothing weight, $419.8g/m^2$ of upper clothing weight, and $420.4g/m^2$ of lower clothing weight. 2. More than 90% of the respondents replied that they felt comfortable when the temperature inside the clothing was $33.5^{\circ}C$ and humidity inside the clothing was 30.2%. 3. The elderly women were more sensible to cold than to hot, those who felt cold had a tendency to wear heavier clothing. 4. The appeal rate for physical pain of older and lower income people, especially those with an income under 1,000,000 won, was higher than that of others. On the other hand, the lower the subjective economic level, the younger they were, and the more the monthly average income was, the higher the rate of mental pain. 5. The heavier the total clothing weight was, the higher the appeal rate for general pain.
This study analyzed the effects of skinny jean on women's health by questionnaire survey and measuring the pressure experienced under the clothing and participants' subjective view of the pressure level. The average size women in their 20s' waists is 26 inches and so three pairs of jeans were prepared and worn by 4 female participants. A survey was conducted to investigate how often participants wear skinny jeans and whether they had had any feelings of discomfort as a result of this. Participants responded that they hadexperienced middle to high levels of discomfort due to the high pressure inside skinny jeans. For the maximum value of clothing pressures, jean f2 at the part of buttocks showed $48.7gf/cm^2$. The pressure inside the clothing was found to be highest around the buttocks followed by the knees and finally the belly. The mean values of 7 measuring parts are different according to the jean type; f3 $20.8gf/cm^2$ > f2 $16.4gf/cm^2$ > f1 $15.5gf/cm^2$, which is corresponding to the order of pressure sensation, but not corresponding to the order of ease amount of clothing pattern: f2 > f3 > f1. Mean pressure values were also measured according to the body posture: they were found to by highest when sitting on a chair (21.3gf/$cm^2$), second highest when sitting on the floor ($19.2gf/cm^2$) and lowest when standing ($15.0gf/cm^2$). This is not always same to the order of participants subjective perceptions of the pressure, which is, they estimated pressure to be highest when sitting on the floor followed by sitting on a chair and lowest in a standing position.

This study evaluates wear comforts of water-vapor-permeable (WVP) garments through a measurement of various parameters such as skin and rectal temperatures, microclimate between skin and clothing, sweat rate, and subjective sensations (thermal, wet and comfort sensations) to correlate the physiological responses of the human body with its comfort feeling. Wear comfort during a specific exercise on a treadmill in a climatic chamber (temperature T = $20{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity H = $50{\pm}10%$) were studied using eight men wearing seven sportswear outfits (a long sleeve shirts and a long pants) made with seven different WVP fabrics. A comfort sensation was found to be highly correlated with skin T (p<.001), microclimate (T and H) between skin and clothing (p<.001) and sweat rate (p<.05). A regression model correlating comfort sensations and physiological responses obtained from wearer trials could be established: Y = 14.167 - 0.362 ${\times}$ X1 + 0.424 ${\times}$ X2 - 0.238 ${\times}$ X3 - 0.561 ${\times}$ X4 + 0.253 ${\times}$ X5 + 0.214 ${\times}$ X6 - 0.393 ${\times}$ X7 + 0.023 ${\times}$ X8 - 0.043 ${\times}$ X9. (Y = comfort sensation, X1 = forehead skin T, X2 = forearm skin T, X3 = hand skin T, X4 = thigh skin T, X5 = T of chest microclimate, X6 = T of thigh microclimate, X7 = chest sweat rate, X8 = H of back microclimate, X9 = H of thigh microclimate. The regression model obtained in this work can be used by manufacturers to objectively estimate the comfort sensation of sportswear before it is introduced to the consumer market. This study provides salient information to sportswear manufacturers and sportswear consumers.

This study aims to seek knitting methods that can enhance the neck design of seamless knitwear and to find out how to improve the designs by comparing and analyzing the characteristics of the knitting methods used for v-neck pullovers. The investigator analyzed the characteristics of the knitting methods and assessed the wearing sensation by using six different pieces of clothing for the experiment. The results were analyzed based on a variance analysis (ANOVA). Among the items showing significant results, the Duncan-test was used for more intensive research. As a result, while using the basic pattern of knitting methods, Experiment Clothes A ended up binding on the back neckline, and not making the hem of back. Also, the neck was the widest. In the case of the special neck, Experimental Clothes B (1:1), which had the least number of the knitting course in relation to the knitting ratio, the bottom part of the back body had the most wrinkles. According to the result of wearing sensation, the front part, the side part, and the back part showed similar results (p<0.000) in all items. Specifically, the appearance of the Experiment Clothes A (normal) in both the front and rear aspects were evaluated as the best. In the case of the special neck, the Experimental Clothes F was ranked the highest, whereas the Experimental Clothes B (1:1) was ranked the lowest. Based on the results of the study, it seems possible to provide concrete and technical data for the planning of unique and productive designs. With regard to seamless knitwear neck designs, a comparative analysis of the knitting method of v-neck pullovers will be of practical use in the development and manufacturing of the product.
