  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the variables which had effects on deit behavior of male and female high school students. The proposed variables are their body-related variables(body satisfaction, weight control experience, the degree of diet interest, and obesity) and self-esteem. The sample group used for the study consisted of 359 high school students(male=168, female=191). Measurement scales used for the study were those of body-related variables, self esteem and eating disorder behavior, and data analysis was performed using $X^2$, t-test, Pearson's correlation, regression analysis. The results are as follows. First, there is a significant difference between male and female high school students regarding their obesity perceived by themselves, body satisfaction, the degree of diet interest, weight control experience, and deit behavior. Second, In male students, diet behavior shows a positive correlation with the degree of diet interest, weight control experience, and body satisfaction, but shows a negative correlation with body satisfaction. In female students, diet behavior is positively correlated with the degree of diet interest, weight control experience, and obesity, but negatively correlated with body satisfaction and self-esteem. Third, in male students, the variables that showed a influence on diet behavior as an eating disorder are weight control experience, body satisfaction and obesity, in that the explanatory power of the variables is 51.7% with the highest mark on obesity. In female, the variables that showed a influence on diet behavior as an eating disorder are the degree of diet interest, weight control experience, body satisfaction and obesity, in that the explanatory power of the variables is 66.0%.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify body satisfaction and weight loss experience according to individual's discrepancy between obesity by BMI (body mass index) and self-assessment. Method: The data were obtained by measuring height, weight and using a questionnaire to obtain data on self-assessment of obesity, body satisfaction and weight loss experience. The participants were 286 women college students in J city, Chungbuk. Results: The mean BMI of the women college student was $21.4{\pm}2.93kg/m^2$ which is within the normal range. The concordance rates between obesity by BMI and self-assessment were 54.1%, 39.9%, 61.5%, 78.6% (Kappa=.29) in underweight, normal, overweight, obese students respectively. Forty seven percent of students who were not obese (BMI $<23kg/m^2$) assessed themselves as obese. The mean body satisfaction of college students was very low and 64.3% of the students had a weight loss experience. The students who perceived themselves to be 'obese' even when their BMI was under $23kg/m^2$ reported lower body satisfaction and higher weight loss experience than other students. Conclusion: There were significant discrepancies between obesity by BMI and self-assessment in women college students. The self-assessment of obesity had a greater effect on body satisfaction and weight loss experience than actual BMI in women college students.

  • This study purports to understand the direct and indirect effects between eating disorder behavior of female adolescents and their body-related variables(concerning the degree of diet regime, weight control, body satisfaction, and obesity), self-esteem and internal control, by checking three sub-categorized behavior of eating disorders of diet behavior, bulimia behavior, and eating control behavior. The sample group used for the study consisted of 190 female high school students and 292 female university students; measurement devices used for the study were those of body-related variables, self esteem and internal control, and eating disorder behavior; and data analysis was performed using ${\chi}2$, t-test, Pearson's correlation, regression analysis and path analysis. The results are as follows. First, there is a significant difference between university students and high school students regarding their body satisfaction, weight control experience, and self esteem. University students are more satisfied with their body, have higher self esteem, and control their weight better than high school students. Second, diet behavior shows a correlation with the degree of diet interest, weight control experience, and body satisfaction. Body satisfaction and internal control proved to be correlated with bulimia behavior, while weight control experience, obesity, and self esteem were correlated with eating control behavior. Third, the variables that showed a direct influence on diet behavior as an eating disorder are diet interest, weight control experience, body satisfaction and obesity, in that the explanatory power of the variables is 60.7% with the highest mark on obesity. The variables that showed effects on bulimia are body satisfaction and internal control with an explanatory power of 2.8%. Indirect variables effecting bulimia include objects, diet interest, body satisfaction, and self esteem. The variable with a direct influence on eating control behavior was self esteem with and explanatory power of 4%, whereas the variables of objects, diet interest, body satisfaction, weight control experience, and internal control were all indirectly correlated with eating control behavior.

  • This study examined body perception, body design behavior and clothing style for women in their 20s according to the period of body design experience. Body perception was analyzed from the two viewpoints of seeing the body as the subject of social suppression and as the means of self-expression. This could lead to understanding how modern women perceive their bodies based on experiences of body design. In-depth Interviews conducted through semi-structured questionnaires among women in their 20s were divided into body design experience less than 24 months and the group of body design experience more than 24 months. The results of this study are as follows. First, both groups did not feel satisfaction in terms of body perception. Women in the less than 24 months group showed their eager for firm body as well as skinny body influenced by social media, while the group with more than 24 months, felt a strong suppression to have a perfect body as a professional due to the expectations of others. Second, the group with less than 24 months conducted body designs to satisfy themselves, while group with more than 24 months focused on the body shape changes through systematic exercise and a strict diet plan that indicated a strong desire to show their perfect body to others. Third, the two groups showed differences in their clothing style.

  • The main purpose of this study was to provide understanding of the meaning of post menopausal womens' lived body changing experience. The methodological approach was guided by Van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological methodology : inquiring and investigating experience as it was lived rather than as conceptualized : reflecting and analyzing the essential themes which characterize the phenomenon : and describing the phenomenon through the art of writing and rewriting. Multiple strategies for data collecting were used ; in depth face-to-face interview ; analysis of womens' writings : artistic work : and analysis of examples of phenomenon in art, literature, and drama. Although the experience was different for all of the women interviewed, essential themes of experience emerged ; Drifting through the years (solitude, in the twilight of life, loneliness, change of taste, forgetfulness, the sense of missing something), A walking weather forecast, Standing on the threshold of losing ki energy, Lately taking care of my body, Seized with fear all of a sudden, Keenly feeling the preciousness of life, Preferring comfortableness to prettiness, Wanting to recall my past years, A strong impulse to rechallenge life, Becoming more fond of friends. Findings from the artistic and creative inquiry further validated the interview findings and the meaning discovered. The study illuminated meaning and simultaneously validated the phenomenological research process. Essential themes for understanding women's experience, implications for education, research, and practice, direction and need for continuing inquiry were identified.

  • This study was carried out to investigate perceptions of body image, body satisfaction, and dietary habits of beauty art major and non-major college students in Gyeonggi province. A total of 312 self-administered questionnaires (beauty art majors=145; non-majors=167) were analyzed. The means for height, weight, and BMI were 161.7 cm, 51.4 kg and 19.7, respectively. There were more majors who were underweight according to BMI classification than non-majors. Sixty-six percent of the subjects had previous weight control experience, and there was no significant difference between the majors and non-majors. The mean score for current body image was 4.61 out of a possible 9 points in the majors, which was significantly lower than 4.95 in the non-majors, and their perception of an ideal body image was thinner than their current body image. Those with more weight control experience had currently heavier perceptions of their body. The mean score for body satisfaction was 2.60 out of a possible 5 points, which was lower than the mean score for their attitudes toward the importance of their bodies. The mean score for dietary habits was 2.80 out of a possible 5 points, and there was no significant difference with dietary habits according to weight control experience or BMI classification. In both the majors and non-majors, there was a significant positive correlation between BMI and perception of current body image (p<0.001, p<0.001), and a negative correlation between BMI and body satisfaction (p<0.01, p<0.001). In the major students, there were significant positive correlations between dietary habits and body satisfaction (p<0.01), and attitudes toward the body importance (p<0.05); therefore, the greater their body satisfaction and body importance, the higher their scores for dietary habits.

  • This research regards that experiencing certain space according to looking through sensations of body will finally make visual perceptional experience to happen. Our bodies incorporate sensible experience along with interactions with surrounding environment while making movements. The analysis of Seongyojang in Gangleung through top and bottom, depth, movement and experience space which are Merleau Ponty's phenomenological space elements has led to the following conclusions. First, the up and down directivity inherent in Seongyojang has different directions in movements by the axis of plane. Second, the depth by the correlation between things and bodies shows the interactions with things and the depth of space rendered by the servants' quarters of '一字形' and the overlapping effect from the movement between buildings can be seen and felt. Third, mobility is focused on the surroundings for the movements of body and thing. Fourth, the experienced space remains as what it is and is experienced through the experience of traditional cultures. The temporality where the past and the present subsist is given with the application of the modern living pattern in the traditional space. That is, the space from the point of phenomenological view makes the visual-perceptual experience possible through the senses of body, with which the space is experienced and sensed. In other words, the space from the phenomenological viewpoint makes visual-perceptual experience possible through the senses of body so that the space may be experienced and perceived. Through this study, a new viewpoint toward Korean traditional space is expected to be discovered.

  • Main purpose of this research is to discuss relationship between digital art works and audience by expansion of Body Schema from Maurice Merleau Ponty's viewpoint, and artistic value of digital art works also became discussed in this research, based on Heidgger's concept called 'Defamiliarization'. We found this 'Defamiliarization' became an important role of digital art works caused by interaction between arts and audience. And we also discussed audience's role as a poet, being-in-between in between the earth and the world, gods and mortals called Heidegger's 'fourfold'. As a conclusion, this unique experience compared to other works is called "A shamanic experience", as an artistic value in interactive digital art works.
